Early evenings when it's quiet and full of regulars and I get the pool tables to myself. Their fries are perfect whether you get the waffle or regular. Then add in the guest, it could get tight but a fun vibe. Main floor area has the bar to one side and the dance floor at the other end. The whole place does turn into a dance floor when it's fully packed. What's nice about this place, they have a nice outdoor patio. Not a lot of bars along this strip offer that which is nice. Bar area is along one side but getting a drink when it's packed can be a challenge. They always have a decent amount of bartenders on deck so that does help but with people coming from all ends trying to order, it can get a bit tricky. Dj is along the side where the dance floor is. As for our visit, Friday which around 9 was still early. The good thing about that, getting a drink was a cinch. Majority of the people were either on the patio or the front lounge. It was pretty full in the front which I think it was a group that were all together. We were there long enough for a drink give or take half an hour the most and by then, the place was pretty empty. I feel like most people tends to come around 10:30 or 11:00. Not sure if they have an entrance fee or not but certain night when they have events, the place is very lively. Then I believe you would need to purchase tickets for that. Parking situation is a major bitch as street parking is pretty sparse. Neighborhood parking is very limited as the locals know that if they move their car, say goodbye to your parking spot. So if you know the area, parking is tricky. It's a cool little bar that I used to go to when I lived down here many years ago which used to be called The Brit. Still a fun vibe.

I should begin by explaining that my review does not mention any of the actual services offered by "The Menagerie". I can't review how good or bad the drinks are, or the music, or the crowd, or any other feature of a business usually reviewed on Yelp. The reason I can't review any of the abovementioned features is because a member of my group was not let into the bar. Security denied my friend entrance to the bar on the basis that he had been there the previous night and had caused a "ruckus". The bouncer, who at first identified himself as "none of your business", told my friend that the club had video of him tipping over a speaker the night before. Now, I should explain here that my friend was nowhere near the Menagerie the night before we tried going. We asked over and over again for a show of proof that it was in fact my friend on tape the night before. Club staff refused to explain how they could tell that it was my friend on tape. They couldn't say whether his face, build, hair color, clothes, or any other feature of his was shared with the guy on camera from the night before. They simply stated that they knew it was him. We spoke to two different secutiry guards, "Mr. None of Your Business" and Chris and the owner of the bar Timothy Worthington. Neither the security guards nor Mr. Worthington could explain how it was they knew that it was my friend they had on tape, nor would they show us the tape amidst us telling them that we weren't at the bar the night before. What this boils down to is the staff at the Menagerie told my friend that he couldn't come into their bar because he looked like the other Mexican guy they had on tape. They didn't cross reference, the name of the guy who caused the trouble with my friends name or make any real effort to make sure it was really my friend who had been there the night before. Instead, this place relied on racial profiling to turn away a guy who was just looking to have a fun night out with his friends. Bottom line-AN INCOMPOTENT STAFF AND OWNER MIXED WITH EXCLUSIONARY BUSINESS PRACTICES AND RACIAL PROFILING = A BAR NOT WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER AND MORE ACCEPTING PLACES TO BE IN RIVERSIDE ON A SATURDAY NIGHT...THANK YOU TIM WORTHINGTN FOR HELPING US SEE THIS. read more

Worst place I've ever been to! Ordered a watered down drink from the very unprofessional, inattentive and what looked to be drug addicted bartender Bryan! Not long after arriving an arrogant, belligerent "straight man" came up to me and my friend sitting at the bar and said "y'all are hot but are y'all guys?" To which I angrily said how dare you! Fuck off and he did for a short time. But came back still sexually harassing, degrading and saying loud rude comments that everyone heard. I again said "fuck you don't talk to me" Ignoring him I asked for another drink and Bryan (the tweaker bartender) Said I'll serve you after you apologize and I responded "are you kidding me, that guy Assaulted, degraded and embarrassed me. No I'm not going to!" He then said "I'm not gonna serve you then" I was shocked being in a (lbgt) bar I was harassed and was discriminated by the staff... In an impulsive act I through the remnants of my drink on him He then physically hustled me out and was trying to fight me outside! Yelling transphobic slurs and enticing a fight. So if you are looking for a friendly, open minded, pleasant, CLEAN environment with good drinks and a safe environment THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU! It fucking stinks in here Bryan! read more

OMG where do I start!!??!!!???!!! The fudge these people tryna pull here!!! We were visiting for the fist time EVER and they gave my husband NOTHING but trouble because he had a LEGALLY REGISTERED assist dog (a very small dog) and they gave us nothing but shiot all friggin night about him, yet, they. Ever said anything about our small dog before. These people are so anti-customer!! We were visiting for the first time and they tried to pull the "someone's allergic to dogs" card! Bull frickin shiot!!! This club is so violating the law, DON'T EVER COME HERE!! DON'T EVER GIVE YOUR HARD-EAENED MONEY TO DAVID St.Pierre because he hires the stupidest idiots ever to work his door and his bar!! So a long time ago I used to come here and I witnessed one of the security guards getting jumped and the other security guard locking him out no one came to help the police who said they were going to charge him with intoxicated in public there was a lot of cocaine done in this bar as one of their guards was dealing it in this establishment other things that I know the owner is rude and obnoxious David st. Pierre is a joke runs his business like s*** so much of a joke I've seen him with an underage man inside this bar you might ask how do I know one the mail was my friend's cousin just turned 19 obviously not 21 but watch David feed him all kinds of drinks and make out with him in the bar when asking him what he was doing in here David the owner told me to shut the f****** in mind my business and had me and my friends thrown out great way to run the business you joke so I will continue to give my business to the VIP The Menagerie became a loss when St-Pierre bought it read more

Riverside grown person, who lives in SF, trying to visit a gay bar where I grew up. Walked in to a sign on the women's restroom stating "out of order" and on the men's "women who use this restroom will be escorted out of the bar". My partner asked a bartender "where can I use the restroom?" and he snarked back that "you can find a bar with a women's restroom". The owner then tried to tell me that all of the plumbing is out but that men won't clog the toilet. Wow. Nice discrimination. Especially from a gay bar. Don't come here unless you identify as an asshole AND a gay man! And don't you worry, I will be filing a discrimination complaint with the city so that other women can enjoy this bar without being discriminated against for simply trying to use a restroom (a legal requirement in such a business to stay open). read more

If I could give this place a zero I definitely would We came here yesterday for my work Christmas party and my aunts tagged along we were waiting in line to use the restroom and you know most places have stalls in the restroom they only have 1 toilet so my aunt was about to walk in and some random guy walking by said "can't you see there's only one stall you stupidass" she turned and looked at him and said don't call me stupid I don't know you and the white security guard covered in stupid tattoos that is guarding the 1 restroom said you can leave to my aunt I ask him why didn't he tell the other guy to leave when he was the one who started being rude all he said was you can leave with her then to . All i can say is wow! This place is not my #1 choice at all.i mean they just let anybody in.....including homeless people! Straight up walked in and saw some dude drinking outta peoples left over glasses. C'mon man! Well besides that i always say i'm never going back but end up there because drinks r way cheaper than Worthington's. They have a nice patio(but ya'll need to get better fans its hot out there!) and r always packed on a friday and saturday night. I actually love the bartenders here but the restroom situation is ridiculous for a gay bar. Why is there a security guard stationed outside and why do they stop the men's line to let one female into the men's restroom. I'm pretty sure this is a violation of some law. Stop pandering to heterosexual couples this place should lose the gay title and it's unfortunate. WARNING!! If you're lgbtqia this bar is NOT safe anymore. They only let in hetero people and straight couples that do nothing but sexually assault people and make fun of the actual lgbtqia customers just trying to find a safe spot, my girlfriend and I were assaulted THREE TIMES in a row by multiple men and were told by the bartenders "they're just drunk" and the security refused to kick them out. Ladies please be aware there is a security guard with ginger hair, long beard, usually wearing a hat and glasses preying on intoxicated women!! This used to be a safe place for me and my girlfriends but management has done nothing about the security guard. Watch out for your friends and other ladies there as he is there multiple times a week hitting in intoxicated women instead of making them feel safe. Do better management read more

The transphobic bathroom policy makes this bar a hostile place for gender nonconforming people, as well as for cis women who have to wait in line while the men's bathroom is empty. And to make things worse, it's super hot in here. There's one area where ac is blowing and everywhere else, hot and sweaty. I'm disappointed, but hoping they can fix things up. And if you're an 80's bar like you claim, please only have 80's cover bands. Or stick with the dj. He was good! I do love the decor here!!
