Not only that, but I wanted the cake to be representative of Alaska -- the fact that they offer Alaskan-specific flavors was icing on the cake (pun intended!). I got an Alaskan Fireweed flavored cake (which was delicious) AND was able to get gluten free cupcakes in the same flavor for my guests with dietary restrictions. I cannot comment on the product from this bakery as I unfortunately did not receive my cake. I placed my order very easily through the electronic request form on their website after trying to call the bakery and being told by the voicemail message that their electronic form would be a faster way of ordering. Within two days I had an email with a PayPal request from the bakery for the cost of the cake. That was the first and only form of communication I received from the bakery. I sent another request form five days after ordering requesting for an earlier pickup time because the baby shower the cake was for was beginning at noon. After not hearing from them I called the day before the shower with no reply. I called twice the morning of the shower and realized the business phone is an iPhone, so I sent several texts asking if I may pickup the cake an hour early and for a pickup location. The iPhone has the "read receipts" activated, so I could see that my texts were being read and not answered. After a few hours and a few more texts sent, being read, and ignored, I finally put in a dispute with PayPal for a refund which was granted immediately with a screenshot of the texts. The owner did finally call to let me know the cake was ready for pickup exactly at the time of the originally scheduled pickup. She was very nice and sounded completely surprised by all the missed opportunities for communication. I am giving two stars because the owner was kind, but this bakery lacks severely in communicating with their customers. I'm sure the cake would have been great, the flavors offered sounded awesome. But beware if you order that you may not hear from them until the moment you pickup your purchase. read more

Have had midnight Sun Cakery make the last few cakes for family birthdays for the past few years. Call and ask if they have ready made cakes. Easy to order online and friendly staff. The cakes are not only beautiful but THAT FLAVOR!!! I've ordered vanilla buttercream and the red velvet. They give you a time to pick it up and place it outside for you. It's an addition to a residential home and the owner always decorates for the seasons. They also do personal cakes but need plenty of time to make the cakes! So happy, always! read more

I found this bakery several years ago and have not had to look back! They are accommodating and make the most delicious cakes and cupcakes I've ever had. I use them for all occasions; birthdays (mine included), work parties, fundraisers, etc. Anita is great and all her employees have a pleasant attitude. Anita made a four tiered cake for our wedding day and it was spectacular to say the least! It was absolutely a piece of art and was so incredibly delicious. Our guests raved about the cake - some even saying it was the best they've ever had at a wedding. She transported it to us in Palmer from Anchorage and everything went off without a hitch. She coordinated well with my other vendors and was quick to respond via email when needed. My husband and I flew into Anchorage for his birthday. I had a "last minute layer cake" prepared so I could pick it up when we made to town. The "last minute" cake is one of the cakes that can be ordered much closer to the date in question than a full custom cake. I'm so glad I did this! The cake looked amazing and tasted great. It was a chocolate-on-chocolate concoction called "The Dark Side" and I would highly recommend it. We loved the cake so much we took most of it as a carry-on when we flew home (there was only two of us, and its a good sized cake - FYI, TSA will let you carry almost an entire chocolate cake onto an airplane). The customer service was great - everything was arranged via email (which worked out well for me) and the cake was exactly what I was looking for and was ready when I asked. The owner followed up with me a few days before to make sure our pick-up arrangements were still okay. If I'm ever in the need for a cake in Anchorage again I would absolutely contact this bakery. read more

So I hate to do this but I feel it's a must after the owner treated a returning customer... I contacted the owner thru text message to get a quote for a cake. I told her what I needed and she gave me a very high price. I told her that was to much and gave her my limit price. She then brushed me off and didn't even acknowledge my limit price. I reminded her I am a returning customer and gave the price of a cake we got back in December last year. She then tells me she has raised her prices since then and the current cake I want now is going to be more detailed and time consuming and that's also why the price is high. I then ask can she do a version of what I asked at my limit price and she gave me a lousy offer and upped my limit price by 5$ more dollars. She didn't just raise her price she is over pricing her cakes. And there is nothing on her website reflecting her new prices. There is no way I was going to pay over $400 for a cake that at the most would feed 30 ppl. And lastly she didn't even want to work with me on my limit price and I am a returning customer. So we will be going with another bakery. read more

Midnight Sun was amazing. As we prepared for our wedding, we scheduled a tasting and we sampled a very wide variety of cakes. The cake was made exactly as we wanted with buttercream decorations and flowers and with several different flavors of cake and filling. It looked stunning and was delivered on time to Wasilla. The baker was so friendly, helpful, and accommodating as well! More importantly, though, the cake was delicious. It was everything a wedding cake should be. Our guests raved about the cake, including several guests who had said in advance, that they never really notice the cake at weddings because they all taste the same. Not this one. It was miles above other cakes we've tasted at weddings or anywhere else. It truly helped to make our wedding a success. I have used this bakery for specialized university cupcakes for a surprise football/birthday party and for my gender reveal cake. They looked absolutely amazing (way above expectations) and you couldn't stop with just eating one piece or cupcake so I suggest you order extras. I do not like to write bad reviews, but I was not impressed with my last experience with Midnight Sun. I had contacted them to make a cake for my mothers birthday party at our office. I had a specific time frame as to when I was able to pick up the cake, which was before our morning meeting in which everyone in the office would be in attendance. I specifically went to her because my mom loves her cakes, and has used her for every single occasion she can think of that warrants a cake. I went to pick up the cake at the time and date we had discussed, and she did not answer the door. I waited 10 minutes, already in a time crunch to pick up this cake, and had to leave and buy one from Fred Meyers, YUCK, because she was MIA. She called as I was arriving back to the office and apologized, but did nothing to make up for the fact that she did not follow through with the timing of the pickup therefor completely let my mom down who was hoping to have her favorite cake. I would not recommend this cakery not just because of this issue, but the lack of customer service to make up for this mistake that she made. No compensation offered for the let down, and only offered to drop off the cake but expected us to pay for it, even though we had to buy another one last minute? No Thank you. read more

Anita at Midnight Sun was incredible. Not only was the cake super delicious, but it looked exquisite. All my guests were raving about it and some said it was the best wedding cake they ever had. When we did the cake tasting, all of Anita's flavors were incredible but we eventually chose the white cake with chocolate ganache swirl. I also really appreciated how accommodating Anita was and so great to work with. She didn't try to talk us into a more expensive cake but bent over backwards to keep it within the budget. She was great communicating by text and always got back to me quickly. She delivered the cake and arranged the flowers on top beautifully. She even decorated the sheet cake! We had a unique situation of planning the wedding from 3,000 miles away with us not arriving to Anchorage until two weeks before the wedding. In all of our correspondence Anita's bubbly and excited personality showed, which just made me that much more excited to work with her--- none of my other vendors showed the same enthusiasm via email. After the future-in-laws did a cake tasting we we sold. To make sure the cake turned out the way I wanted she held off making final decisions until I arrived in Anchorage and could do a cake tasting of my own; my oh my so many delicious options! She came prepared with many different cake and frosting flavors and when we told her approximately what we wanted the cake to look like, she made a sketch for us right there. Furthermore, I really felt like she understood exactly what we wanted and I had no concerns that the cake would be fantastic.
