Reuben and hummus
Lei S.

After being denied watching the Laker game at ESPN Zone on Satuday, my friends and I came here. At first we didn't know if it was open, it was completely empty but then we saw the bartender and sat down. It was a little strange that we were the only ones in there but at least we were able to get a seat. They had a good amount of beers on tap, my friends ordered a Blue Moon and I got a Fat Tire. It was probably the best Fat Tire on tap that I've had ever! We also ordered Reuben "fingers" which was actually a Reuben sandwich sliced up and ordered some hummus with pita chips. The corned beef was really good and there was no sauerkraut which is ok since I don't really like that stuff. The bread was really buttery good but baaaad at the same time. I liked the hummus but my friends and I couldn't tell if the pita was supposed to be kind of stale? They had two types, one with TONS of rosemary and another with parmesan cheese. Nice place for a 'Plan B' spot to watch a Laker game if ESPN Zone, Yardhouse, etc. are too crowded. I'd skip out on the bar food though, a little too pricey for me.

Vesper and blood orange cosmo

We wanted to do some lounging at the lobby bar at JW Marriott, saw this nice looking lounge near the hotel entrance, decided to give it a try. Loved the modern, trendy and sleek decor, there was a DJ playing relaxing lounge music too. We chose to sit at the bar because we weren't going to hang around for long time. They have a good drinks and appetizers menu, I would wanted to order some apps if we hadn't just had dinner. The blood orange Cosmo caught my eye, let's try that! It was so strong and tasty, the color was so pretty! Hubby ordered Vesper martini, the very friendly bartender looked around to see if they had Lillet, turned out they had two flavors, never tasted the rose flavor, it added better taste to the Vesper cocktail, hubby liked it a lot. I had a shot of grey Goose chill before we left. It was a beautiful lounge with relaxing music and friendly bartenders, definitely my idea of lounging!

Working at LA Live, I've been to all the restaurants/bars on the Staples/LA Live campus. The Mixing Room is probably the worst place you can go for happy hour because there isn't one and the current food/menu rates meh to awful. Beers are about $9 and wine/cocktails are about $17 (price of an entree or a meal), and the current food menu is not as good as the prior ones that offered a more interesting selection such as cheese plate, fries, Peking duck spring rolls, and short rib taquitos. As for the current menu, we ordered shishito bonitos, margherita pizza and wings. The pizza and the wings were fairly pedestrian. The toppings on the pizza were mindlessly tossed and strewn unevenly across the pie. Nothing that would bring you back for more. As for the shishito peppers, we were impressed at first with the generous portion - a full plate of peppers. Some of us said "Wow." "Nice." "Lots of peppers there...". BUT upon closer view, more than half were burnt. Worse yet, the spice level was utterly inconsistent. Some had no flavor (probably because they were charred); others want to make you cry and call 911. You just don't know what you'd get. It was like playing "shishito pepper Russian Roulette." While we got a few laughs watching ourselves lose our sense of taste for five minutes at a time, we decided to leave most of the peppers untouched. What ended the night on a low note was how they charged the group. My friend paid with a credit card and they stuck the itemized receipt under the credit card slip. Without us knowing, they had added a 18% gratuity to the bill because we had a party of (only) six, and my friend paid an additional 20% on top of that. By the time he found out, it was too late. We get the additional gratuity practice at restaurants but at a bar setting where you order a few drinks and bites, it just seems a bit over the top. None of the other happy hours locations at LA Live charges the extra service fee. So unless you love hotel bars, dying to check out Marriott's Mixing Room or want to see who stays at the JW, I would satisfy my small dish taste buds and quench my happy hour thirst at other restaurants on the LA Live campus.

Racer 5 IPA

I hung out here for a couple of hours watching a NFL playoff game. The atmosphere here is pretty mellow and moderately upscale. I was actually surprised that they even had some decent beer on their menu. It felt as if they would only serve wine or cocktails. I had a couple of the Racer 5 IPAs. The servers were pretty friendly and attentive. This place is conveniently situated in LA Live next to the movie theater. Although this place was nice, I think next time I'll hang out some place else just to see what else is out there.

two cocktails on the bar

Amazing service and really good homemade chips! Amazing for first time drink! I will say was a little confused on how to get there at first but after that it was great

When I'm in dire need of an adult beverage at L.A. Live, I usually head over to the Mixing Room. Open daily at 4pm, I'm mildly attracted by the lush and comfortable design. If you're into people watching or maybe star gazing, then I guess this place works. Close to tip off, I tried a few times to swashbuckle at the Yard House and failed miserably. Quoting Charlton Heston from the original Planet of the Apes movie - "It's Mad House, a Mad House!" I've experienced a few drinks at the Mixing Room and they're quite swell. Their hand made, unique cocktails are highly suggested when speaking with the local barflys. During, my last visit, we took hostage of the "Pretty in Pink" couches in the back, where you can get a clear view of the venue and it's within close proximity of the bar. Most people tend to think that this lounge is expensive, since it's located inside the lobby level of the JW Marriott, but that's incorrect. The refreshments aren't any more costly than your usual Hollywood or Sunset venue. You get what you pay for in cocktails, beers, wines, and small plates (http://lalive.s3.amazonaws.com/doc/mixingroom_menu.pdf). When the weather is nice, I'd take full advantage of their outdoor patio seating. Also, an hour before every home game, there's a tailgate menu to partake, which includes a very decent burger, paired with a nice brewski for $18. After almost every LA Kings home game, the Kings Talk radio broadcast takes place here. Rating - 3.5 stars Remember, you're at the Staples Center to root on your favorite team - hopefully the Kings, the Lakers, and the Clippers. What else do you have in mind besides a quality drink before or after the game?

Drinking champagne cause it's my birthday...
Salem D.

More like 3 1/2 stars. Came with a group of friends to celebrate my birthday. We had dinner across the hall at Ford filling station then came over because we heard there was a DJ that plays. We decided to have a drink there while we decided where to go dance and end the night. Well, the dj mist of wanted to keep us there because they started to play good music. Danceable music!! My girls and I danced pretty much all night!! My only complaint are the drinks. Since I was the birthday girl, my friend kept buying me drinks. I tried 3 different ones and actually hated one of them and did not like the others. I don't mind expensive drinks if they are at least good tasting. These weren't!! Luckily my brother in law bought a bottle of champagne so I ended the night with that. Can't go wrong with champagne... There was no cover, good music but not too good drinks. I would stick to the general drinks (jack n coke, vodka cranberry, etc) next time...

********************* 1503 ********************** We were here many times during the MBA Tech conference. We even did a cocktail reception here. They didn't have the space ready on time for us. It was a windy day. Our sign stand kept falling. They didn't clean the table nor re-arrange the outdoor furniture was we expected. It was 5:50 PM, 20 minutes passed our booking time before they served us food. Our clients came, and there was no server to take our orders. There was also one waitress for our event from 5:30-7:30 PM. We booked for 30 people, but our company was quite busy, so we had about 50 people, with that said, the management should be able to accommodate us. More people is more money right? On the high note, our waitress was super friendly and attentive to us throughout the evening. The chicken wing, the hummus, the veggies, the roll were all good, but the salsa was delicious. Veuve Cliquot Champagne for $125 per bottle is quite high mark up on their limited wine list.

Only stopped through. Didnt order any food. Music was good and drinks was ok. 15 bucks a pop soo theres that!! They do have a gang of TV Screens and they are right next to the Glance Bar and Restaurant. Theres a DJ that was bumping. Just a nice place to chill. Not alone of people on this day but I'm sure it gets way crowded, I mean it is at LA live

black mandarin
Hion L.

For a place that calls themselves the mixing room, having only 8 signature cocktails is a bit meager. I got the gin fizz which was ok as well as the Black Mandarin. But Blue Moon and Fat Tire on tap!! The little appetizer plates they serve are delicious. I had the deviled eggs combo - which was very good. The good thing is that food comes from LA Market. The bad thing is that the server has to walk across the hall to get it, so they are having to go back and forth. The decor is very cool and a great place to hangout. They are extremely understaffed. I never saw more than one person serving the entire room. I felt sorry for them since they looked overwhelmed. During peak hours this can be a bit frustrating, but as long as you go in with that expectation and go at a leisurely pace, this is fine. Just think of it as European style service! Outdoor seating at night is an unusual experience b/c you have the two huge jumbo displays that make it seem like day. A little too bright and glaring. Overall, I would have to say that I enjoyed being here better than the front lounge which is plagued with the Starbucks dilemma - way too many people hanging on to tables wayyy after their one drink. That's what happens when you offer Wi-Fi.

Always enough room to sit and mingle, always good drinks and service. We had a nice experience with Manny our server, very genuine and engaged in the conversations. I, as well my partner, recomend him. THANKS for a great time manny! # SilverLining #SmokySour

Our bartender was helpful and personable welcoming us and taking our orders. Under advice from Caña member Elite Yelper, Isobel L., who graciously took us under her wing, we ordered a shot of Nicaraguan Flor de Caña Rum aged 12 years that came with a cigarillo. We adjourned from the bar to the patio to smoke our mini-stogies and sipped our rum. We came early when there were very few members so it was the perfect place to talk and mellow out. Those who want a more animated crowd probably should come much later when lively dance music begins, and booties start to swing. Caña Rum Bar: 4 stars

From fun nights out, special occasions, whiskey tastings, exploring the speakeasy... playing some pool, enjoying libations, taking in live music, perfect outings on the patio, the occasional cigar. So many great memories and experiences created here including some awesome date days with my other half. If stopping in for the first time you'll discover S.G. on 7th and Grand Avenue with a door person usually always at the bottom of the staircase just outside of the restaurant/cocktail bar Zaya (which has been many incarnations including Bar CDMX, V and Mas Malo). Provide them with a valid ID, as anybody over 21 should have a valid form of identification on them at all times, not just for driving or access to 21+ events or establishments, but for safety. And Seven Grand cares about everyone and their safety. They value their staff as much as their customers. And it shows in every way from thoughtful space in all directions, great pool tables, a whiskey, bourbon and scotch curated cocktail menu, even some good brew/beer. Awesome hallways with cabinet lockers, the cleanest restrooms, great dim dark warm lighting, fun fixtures and true DTLA vibes that feel old timey yet also very modern. Seven Grand is open to all and all are welcome. Stellar daily happy hour 4pm to 8pm. I love a good $10 Toki Highball at 5pm, but you can't go wrong with their classic old fashion also. All the bartenders are incredible as well as personable. S Grand is open every day from 4pm until 2am. Loads of lots close by as well as the Metro station at 7th and Metro. Though the trains currently stop just a little after midnight. Rideshare is also your friend, which now includes Waymo in the area. Discover Seven Grand also in San Diego, Austin or Denver. If planning an event you inquire with Stephen via email for personal parties, events with a budget and even corporate parties. They're very accommodating with a good amount of notice. When we had my boyfriend's birthday here they reserved a table for us and set us up with everything we needed. Thinking of having my next birthday here myself both at Seven Grand and Bar Jackalope (their hidden speakeasy). Support your awesome LA Whiskey Bar!
