Charming speak easy like hidden bar in Downtown L.A. where you have to go in back of the building through the garage to see a canopy and burgundy colored drapery framing a reception desk & dark, open door. The entire bar is dark, mysterious with twinkle lights overhead. Like Las Vegas, once inside, it's hard to know if it's day or night outside. Only exception is in their outdoor patio mirrored on the sides like the hall at Versailles and sunlight coming in from above where smoking is allowed. We came early before 8pm during Happy Hour when non-members can enter with a person with a membership which allows 3 additional guests, and all guests are free to enter without a membership until 8pm. [$30 initial membership fee for a year and $20 annual renewal.] Caña (kahn yah) means cane in Spanish referring to sugar cane from which rum is made. Our bartender was helpful and personable welcoming us and taking our orders. Under advice from Caña member Elite Yelper, Isobel L., who graciously took us under her wing, we ordered a shot of Nicaraguan Flor de Caña Rum aged 12 years that came with a cigarillo. We adjourned from the bar to the patio to smoke our mini-stogies and sipped our rum. We came early when there were very few members so it was the perfect place to talk and mellow out. Those who want a more animated crowd probably should come much later when lively dance music begins, and booties start to swing. Caña Rum Bar: 4 stars

Sneaky little hideaway in DTLA, you almost miss it, but once you are inside, the vibe hits you, cozy bar & chill outdoor patio. I was there for a Mainland rum tasting event and met Sean, the organizer, super laid-back, welcoming, and just an all around good time. Plus, they've got a solid cigar selection, so you can sip, puff, and pretend you're in some tropical getaway instead of downtown LA chaos.

Randomly ran into this place after a Los Angeles Lakers game. If you are a cigar smoker this is a nice chill spot after a late night at work.

The high point of this place is the energy and the vibe. The dj, the people, and the bartenders are all a vibe; fun, upbeat and very positive. The down side to me were the drinks. I expected alot from a rum bar, but my Paloma was weak and watered down, and this is coming from a non-drinker. I'm from Texas so I've tried many versions of the drink and this one wasn't good. My companion said their drinks, not Palomas, were similar. I still think it's 100% worth a visit, just be aware the drinks may not be great. I'm wondering if one of the bartenders had an off night

What a cool spot. Came out to have some great rum and cigars after a long day at work. Not many options for cigars but with over 60 choices of rum, you are most likely to find something you like. Pull in at the entrance, park and walk to the front door. Caribbean music blasting as we walked down the dimly lit hall to the bar area. Ordered a glass of The Diplomatico, neat, paired with the Arturo Fuente Curly Head Deluxe stogie. Hung out in the patio room. High table, stools and fire place. Only draw back was there were no comfy lounge chairs. The vibe was good, the price was right and the service was great.

Moody little space with dim lighting the night I went. I ordered the mojito which was strong! But delicious nonetheless. Refreshing drink. I had my first daiquiri here, it was a bit bitter for my taste so I know to stick with mojitos. Service was great, fast & friendly. They have salsa classes Monday, would be fun!

I attended Caña Rum Bar this past Sunday. Ive actually been wanting to go for the longest. I made it due to a DJ who i've been wanting to see live for the longest was performing there and it was my one opportunity to meet her. Long story short, Caña Rum Bar is definitely a vibe. Latin Vibes throughout the evening, I was wishing it was a Friday or Saturday night. Nonetheless, I am writing this review mostly due to the service I received by one of their bartenders, Alex! Alex is a mensch, he not only has great service but has the best attitude and is very welcoming. I will definitely be re-attending soon because of his excellence. Caña is my very first LA Bar I've ever been to, so I do have to thank them for the vibe they put out and the great drinks and cigar choices!! Bring Gia Fu back again please!!

Such a fun spot! I visited for the first time last night and really enjoyed myself. From very friendly staff, cozy and fun ambiance, tasty drinks and great music. I had the 10 out of 10 as I like tequila and it was very yummy. The dj was playing my reggaeton faves which had everyone dancing. My favorite part was just seeing everyone having a great time enjoying themselves and being so friendly. I'd love to go back.

Fun atmosphere! Good dj on Saturday night! My friends and I got the Cuba Libre! I recommend the drink to anyone that doesn't like a strong alcohol taste. There is a quiet outside area with a cute fireplace or the inside louder dance section.

Ask the Community - Caña Rum Bar

Do you guys have a dresscode?

While I was there, the Kings had a game down the street and people came in in their tennis shoes and Jersey. Definitely more like a local dive bar.

Do they have a DJ on Thursday nights?

The night I was there it was a Thursday night, and yes there was a Dj.

Are there certain nights you can smoke a cigar or can I come in at anytime and get a cigar?

    Anytime

How much is it to become a member? How many people can you bring with you?

It's $50 a year. All you have to do is email them you want to be a member or go to the bar and pay there and it's a done deal

How to get the annual membership?

Just go to the door. They will sign you up and take your fee before you enter.

Do you guys require vax cards?

    Yes

    What's the Admission fee?

$50 for annual club membership. Can't get in without membership.

If I wanted to host my wife's 40th bday party or say get a section for a large group, do you guys offer this? Also can you provide a bottle service for the large group?

Hi Eddie, At this time we don't offer reservations. However, if you get there early enough-- you and your group can hold a section for you to enjoy. We hope to see you there!

Is the dance floor open yet?

Hello there! Yes the "dance floor" is open and made available when we clear bar seating. We hope to see you soon!

    Yes

    What day is salsa night?

    Thursday

Does anyone know how you can become a member?

You just go to the club and provide a debit card to pay the membership. Is open to everyone I believe.

Does anyone know how much is the membership, and how many others is that person able to get in, thank you?

I believe it's $30 a year (could be $40) and that gets you and two other people in whenever you go

    Is there dancing?

Yes. They usually have a Latin music theme.

Can anyone enter without membership and there's cover on saturdays?

You need the membership to enter. Once the person pays the membership there is no cover for 3other guests.

Is it free to get in before a certain time?

No it's not free. You need a membership after you pay the one time fee you don't have to pay again.

So is it just certain nights that they allow "members only", or if you get there earlier you don't have to be a member?

$20 fee for the membership period at any time. That's a year membership and you can bring up to 2 guests at any visit.

High ceilings, Natural lighting, classy decor, comfy couches... Yeah, take your time with that room, we'll wait! I finally was able to check it off, thanks to a hotel offer with a dining credit. Dahlia is the gorgeous petite space behind the larger ground floor restaurant space now called Cabrillo (formerly Caldo Verde). Dahlia opened as a bespoke cocktail lounge, then began to offer tea. Now it's just tea. There are five 2-tops and two 4-top tables. All food and beverage venues at the Proper used to be under the auspices of famed chef Suzanne Goin and her business partner/sommelier Caroline Styne. They are no longer affiliated with the Proper, but many of their dishes/contributions remain. The last named vestige of them is on the tea menu, "Suzanne's Deviled-Egg Sandwich". The tea menu has several options: Classic, with a seasonal mocktail, or with different champagnes. I opted for the Classic experience, because the mocktail had mocha, not my fave. Server Lluvia was clearly a Dahlia veteran; she offered a tea-smelling of all the teas that interested me as well as crowd favourites. I ultimately chose one of these faves, Mad Hatter's Tea Party, which had passionfruit and vanilla. I declined milk/cream, but did get lemon. There were rock sugar sticks on the table. It seems the selection of tea sandwiches and sweet treats changes every so often, although the vanilla bean scone, dried currant scone, Devonshire cream and apricot orange jam seem like constants. The sandwich selection at my visit were: cucumber, crab/creme fraiche, beet hummus on pita, smoked salmon and Suzanne's deviled egg. All were delish, the beet, crab and deviled egg especially. The sweet treats were: orange fig butter cookie, spiced apple brown butter crumble, cranberry frangipane hand pie, chocolate mocha macaron, pumpkin madeleine, plus the 2 scones. All were excellent. There were no leftovers. A bit pricey, but a relaxing and lovely experience. The room was not crowded when I visited, adding to the calmness of my visit.
