We went to the lounge at the golden hour and we got to see the sunset over DTLA and see the beautiful night lights. It takes about an hour for full rotation. The ambiance was very friendly with different groups of people from conference goers, tourists and even a table full of prom kids all dressed up. Let me start by saying the rooftop rotating bar at the Bonaventure Hotel is genuinely cool. The views are amazing, the vibes are on point, and the concept of a rotating bar is just fun. I went with a friend purely to check it out. We weren't even planning to eat. But we sat down, looked at the menu, and thought, "Hey, this actually sounds pretty good." That was our mistake. I ordered the poached salmon salad, and the salmon came out tasting like it had been frozen and barely revived. The consistency was what I imagine cat food tastes like. I don't love being that person, but I said something. Our server, who was genuinely wonderful and understanding, offered to bring me something else, so I tried the peel-and-eat shrimp. Also shockingly cold and flavorless. You know it's a problem when Costco shrimp cocktail has yours beat. To top it off, I ended up getting sick on my walk back from the hotel. Pretty sure it was the food. One more thing: if you ask for water, specify tap water. They brought us two bottled waters at $9 each without asking. A little heads-up would've been nice. I came here for dinner while staying at the hotel for a conference. The revolving lounge is a nice place to enjoy the Los Angeles skyline while grabbing drinks or a bite. I tried their wings and clam chowder. Both were good. When you arrive, you have to go past the host stand for LA Prime and down the stairs to get to the lounge. At the bottom of the stairs you can wait to be seated, but if you seat yourself, they may move you if you're a small party trying to sit at a large table or booth. So, you may want to wait until your whole party arrives before getting seated if you have a lot of people. While the restaurant was busy, there were still tables available, so I imagine you don't need to worry too much about not getting a table. read more

Finally got the check and the total should have been $80.92. However, today the charge posted for $158.84. Needless to say, they changed the tip to an egregious amount. Not only is this shady and illegal, but after the service received, I will be taking the proper measures to make sure this doesn't happen again. In such tough times with so many local places struggling, how can you be so shady? I've been here many times. Truly unacceptable. I attached the proof. We stopped in here after Broken Shaker and before dinner, and honestly.....perfect timing. This place is an absolute sunset gem. You take the red elevator up to the 35th floor of the Westin, walk past LA Prime Steakhouse, and then head down a short set of stairs into Bonavista Lounge just in time for happy hour. The vibe hits immediately. Happy hour was a win across the board: $6.50 glasses of Pinot Noir and Cabernet (shockingly good for the price), plus Caesar salad, sliders, and loaded nachos. Everything was solid, but the real showstopper? The restaurant rotates 360 degrees. No joke. You're sipping wine while the entire skyline slowly glides by. One of the best views you can get from DTLA. The revolving lounge is an absolute treat and experience. With that being said, be absolutely worried that you may get some of the worse service imaginable. The service staff is excellent. The drinks are okay. The menu items are average, however management is atrocious. My experience is from a reservation deposit for New Year's Eve. A deposit that was suppose to be refunded once your reservation is completed. Messages left for the restaurant manager went without return from Jan 1st, Jan 8th, Jan 9th, and Jan 10th. I finally spoke with a staff member, Adriana on Jan 22nd and she assured me that her manager would address the refund and return my call. I have not received any return call and this matter is still unresolved. The Bonavista basically stole my money at this point and a report of theft as been reported to my bank. The management of the Bonaventure Hotel is absolutely incompetent. read more

They serve some small food items but I just got a cocktail for myself. The Sunset Boulevard was fruity and sweet. They also gave some chex mix to snack on. Overall a cute vibe to chat with friends or go on a date. Lots of semi-circle booths to sit and chat in. Though the '80s heydey of the hotel and "shopping gallery" has passed, it's still a stunning structure and iconic part of the DTLA cityscape. You'll zip up to the 35th floor in the exposed elevator, pass the steakhouse, and take a flight of stairs to the revolving lounge. My friend and I got right in on a Thursday night with no reservation, seated at a table for two right by the window. The lounge was indeed revolving that evening - I have been there when it was stationary. We ordered drinks - an off-menu classic old-fashioned and their lychee martini. The martini was sweet and strong, a generous serving in a stemless glass, garnished with an eyeball-looking fermented (?) item. We ordered one plate, salmon with rice and steamed veg - another plentiful portion, plated nicely. They've changed the menu from upscale American fare to sushi and Japanese food, so the place does have a faint fishy smell. Despite the Asian-themed menus, however, they surprisingly didn't have the Japanese whiskey my friend requested in his old-fashioned. The first time I came here, I ordered a cocktail in a collectible glass that was shaped like the hotel. I never appreciated how special that glass was, and likely in a move, I threw away or lost it. We visited the Downtown Bonaventure Revolving Lounge and had a great experience overall. This is one of those unique spots where the lounge slowly revolves, giving you a stunning 360° view of Los Angeles. I highly recommend coming around sunset -- watching the city lights start to twinkle while the sky changes colors is simply beautiful. I ordered a Lychee Martini -- it was absolutely delicious. My partner had an unsweetened iced tea, and he thought it was pretty good as well. For food, we tried the sliders -- amazing! My partner especially loved them. We also ordered the Loaded Chips, which came in a huge portion -- easily enough for four people to share. The flavor was nice, but the chips themselves weren't quite as crispy as I'd like, probably because of all the sauce on top. Still enjoyable overall. They also serve a complimentary Chex Mix to every table, and you can even ask for more if you finish it. I really liked it -- tasty without being overly salty (some places go overboard with salt, but this one was just right). Came here for mother's day nightcap on a Saturday night. Beautiful views, and the revolving design is awesome; I really wish there were more places that do this! Shoutout to MIKE, thank you for being a friendly host :) Yeah, the space is dated, but I think that's part of its charm. It made me feel nostalgic as I imagined how popular it must have been during its 80s heyday (same with the hotel). The space was only at 20% capacity (a generous estimate), which is a shame, because it's a great hangout spot! I'm not sure what the solution would be to bring back the crowd, but I hope it happens. Both this lounge and the hotel deserve to be revitalized. The minor complaint I have: I wish they offered non-alcoholic options, especially since everyone needs to get a drink (which is fair). Snacks would be good too. They don't even have to be hot appetizers (though that'd be nice), but maybe the menu can include pastries or small charcuteries! The view is amazing, it's the reason i come here. But the food is generally mediocre. Today I got the lychee crème brûlée. Aside from the canned lychee on top, I couldn't taste much lychee in the actual crème. Overall it was fine but nothing special. They charge $6.5 for the water and they give you Voss. To start this is a beautifully designed hotel in the heart of DTLA. It is known to be featured in several films, including True Lies (1994) and if you are too young to know that movie then I will help you out and mention Queen herself Rihanna also filmed her Savage x Fenty Vol 3 here. Not sure if it was just a slow weekend, but we easily found meter parking outside the hotel on a Sunday just before 9pm. We entered a busy lobby, perhaps an event nearby. There was plenty of seating. We made our way to the RED elevator that would take us to the level we needed to go for the Lounge. It was relatively empty but perfect for our group of 6. We were quickly seated without reservation, ordered our cocktails along with a few appetizers. The space is dim, creating an intimate and cozy setting. We were in awe of the views. We would sip our drinks, look at the views, have a conversation, and look at the views again and to our surprise would face another part of the city. You couldn't feel the floor move. We only came for drinks but the views were so immaculate that we decided to get some appetizers. Between our group we order pork belly bao, pork steamed dumplings, chicken pot stickers all which were delicious and great shareables. It's a cool experience to have drinks with such beautiful views. The 3 stars is all for the view without the crowds and the unique rotating floor. But to be honest, many other places now in DTLA offer a great view so it's not much to be impressed by. It is relatively convenient and not overly busy even on a weekend though, so this may be the place if you want something no frills and not massively crowded. The place itself gives off old school vibes like the rest of the hotel itself, but it gets the job done if you just want a chill place to chat with someone. Literally, as service wasn't super attentive and you had to wave down someone to come back. I didn't really have any food but set low expectations. From eyeing the menu, I had my doubts and upon trying the creme brulee, it confirmed that this place isn't really the spot for a decent meal. It was mediocre but edible. To get to this place you can go to the La prime level on the elevator and walk downstairs. It is a cute little lounge area that revolves at a decent speed. I actually had to leave because my date and I got vertigo after being there for just 30 mins We got two drinks and two appetizers. The fried gyoza and the spring rolls were both really good. an absolutely gorgeous location but it's pretty clear LA Prime and the Westin Bonaventure don't view this as an important part of the business model. to enter, you take the elevator up to LA Prime and the employees at the host station will look at you like you have two heads if you're dressed for the lounge rather than the steakhouse. they will silently gesture you to the lounge without making eye contact. food all looks bland and designed to be as quick as possible to execute. there used to be a pretty good happy hour but they've completely gotten rid of it; not changed, gone. why? i've been to the lounge at least three times and have never seen it even a third full. why does the westin not want people in this gorgeous, unique space? a side note: i saw the manager at the LA Prime host stand when we were leaving and told him "i think you guys should bring the happy hour back!" i didn't see his face but according to my partner he looked so annoyed that he might just raise prices instead lol. so watch out for that! go for the views, but don't expect them to provide an experience to match read more

The view is fantastic and well worth the higher prices for the food and drink. The ambience is dark and cozy for a more intimate setting. Ordered salmon, which was a respectable size but it did not really come with much else, only a 1/2 cup of rice and a lotus root slice. The lychee creme brulee was excellent, though. However, for some reason the people that run the hotel thought it wise to remove all food options from the menu. I lived in LA for many years, moved out of state and recently came back. To see how dead the bar is saddens me as my wife and I would come here all the time. I live up the street now and would drink here more often but no food makes it hard. Had 2 drinks here the other night, would have been 4 each if we could have had food. There's literally a kitchen on the 34th floor and if ownership is too cheap to run that then use the own on 35 that the Steakhouse uses and just made simple bar food like sliders, wings, quesadillas, etc. I know the Bonaventure can do it as your ground floor restaurant and room service make excellent food! read more

I would say that the Bonavista Lounge fit that bill to a tee. My mom and dad ordered the pork belly bao and char siu ribs to share. My dad ordered the siracha smash burger and mom had a kung pao salad. Portions were decent for the price and I felt like service was attentive and kind. The menu isn't extensive, but I don't think it's meant to be with their main restaurant atop. The views were something to write home about and the food was a nice add-on. Low frills, special occasion, spot that doesn't break the bank. I can't speak to the drink selection since my parents don't partake, but it was a very beautiful outing during the sunset hour and I would definitely come back if I was looking for a casual, low fuss, setting. Very nice place to have a drink, some small bites, and wind down. As a half-Asian, I will tell you, rule #1: never ever order potstickers that are $14 at a non-asian restaurant.
