My in-laws and I stayed at the Monarch Inn this past week for one night. We were in the area to check out property and visit Yosemite. The rooms were clean and had all the conveniences. My two boys loved how comfy the beds were. Connie was amazing! She helped us find places to eat in town which were so tasty. Plus she had tips on what to check out while in town. We had a lot of fun visiting Briceburg on her recommendation. Connie was a wealth of knowledge, glad we stayed here. read more

The room was pretty good in size but if you get stuck on the ground level prepare to hear everyone walk. You will hear this all night unless the Heater/AC kicks on then you will hear nothing not even the Tv in your room. The internet....none despite claiming there internet was there. The tv was a good size and it was dry. If you don't mind the beds being as hard as a literal board you won't be upset read more

I think they're trying to cover it up with another "fresh air scent" and seems like it's full of toxic chemicals!! I couldn't be in that front lobby for long, as I was getting sick, with nausea.. so I had to step outside to breathe while my friend checked us in. I thought maybe it would be a little better in the rooms., but even the room had a moldy smell. I couldn't stay there, because I'm very sensitive to all that.. We went back out to leave and get our money back and these people fought tooth and nail for us not to get our money back. This place is disgusting and so are the people there. This is a nice little in in the heart of Mariposa about an hour outside of Yosemite national Park. Perfect location if you're not wanting to spend the crazy inside the park prices for lodging. The rooms were clean. The bathrooms were decent but we had an issue w our tub not draining and holding water for 10ish minutes...addressed w staff but was never fixed. Continental breakfast is decent...no proteins but plenty of carbs, and fruits to get you going. I'd go to the coffee place (Sticks) in town for java. Has a pool and gym but we didn't use either as hiking was all the exercise really needed. Staff always friendly. read more

Overall for the price, distance to Yosemite, and comparison to other lodge facilities, even though the room was not perfect, and we booked at the last minute trying to find 2 queen beds so our choices were limited, we'd probably stay here again. It was an average hotel, nothing fancy, about an hour drive to Yosemite, without breakfast. * Room seemed clean * Beds were comfortable enough * Refrigerator worked fine * Wifi worked fine * No breakfast (we did not expect there to be breakfast) * Coffee, hot water, tea, and juice was available in the morning. I think there may have been juice all day. * Parking is in the lot behind the hotel. It's included. There is also parking on the public street. * Reception at check-in and check-out worked fine. The attendant was polite. * There was a working hair dryer in the room. * The air conditioning was a bit confusing. There was a panel on the wall which had an error code on it. But there was also a unit near the window with its own controls. Using the controls on the unit near the window worked. Ignore the panel on the wall. The air conditioning unit was very loud. * The shower head water comes on full blast. There may have been a way to change the setting at some point, but it didn't work for us. With the water coming out full blast, it ends up rushing you. * It takes some time for the shower water to become a good temperature. * The tub did not drain properly, even though the stopper was fully lifted up. * The in-room coffee maker wouldn't open. * Our room was on the "2nd floor" which is below the hotel lobby (which is on the 3rd floor at street level.) It was quiet on the 2nd floor. * About a one hour drive to Yosemite. * Starbucks is a few blocks away. * There was a gas station a couple blocks away. Stopped in last minute, happy I did. The staff were very helpful in explaining my options for getting to Yosemite. Gave me late checkout and also let me stay parked in their lot. Now, bear in mind, while writing this I would like to point out the negativity of this review is not indicative of the competency of the staff. In fact, they were the only good thing about this building. Besides that though, this place is a disaster. Let's start off by the journey to your room, shall we? You make your way to the elevator, and once inside, realize this mechanical container might just very well break down with you inside. The smudges and grime on the walls of this enclosed space are just a warning of what's to come.. Once the doors creak open, you are blasted with an overbearing pungent smell of smoke and decay, wafting through the hallways like an endless stream. In a haze, and needing to escape the stifling odor, you stumble to the front door of your new room, hoping to get inside in a haste before the fragrance penetrates your clothing. At this point, if the key card finally decides to work after 30 tries, you will then enter your room... Entering your new sleeping chamber, you look around to see what you've gotten yourself into. From the cheap, outdated furniture to the curtains that won't fully close, you know you've made a mistake. Setting your bags down carefully, not to disrupt the potential sleeping bugs within the carpet, the thought of a shower fills your mind. Getting the aroma of the hallway off your skin is a must at this point after all. Turning on the water and waiting 20 minutes for it to heat up, begins to give you anxiety, until you realize whoever installed the faucets for the tub and sink have mistaken hot for cold and visa-versa. Chuckling to yourself at how now you have to remember the blue dot means hot, and red dot means cold, you wonder if a reboot of "PRANKD" is currently being filmed. After your shower, and grinding your skin down to the bone with your towels made of sandpaper, slumber beckons you. "Surely the bed will be the only relief from the hell I've found myself in?" you whisper out loud as the street lights from outside shine bright through the non-closing curtains. It is now bedtime. The next morning, after spending all night tossing and turning on the 40 year old springy mattress, and giving your chiropractor some future work due to pillows that are harder than bricks, it's time to get up. Instead of using the death trap elevator to go downstairs for your complimentary breakfast, you decide that the stairs are the best course of action. Making your way down the steps, and avoiding the trash that litters the staircase, you finally arrive at the food area within the lobby. Cereal and milk, a classic morning food should brighten your spirits. Until you realize, they have no milk. And are out of most foods except a muffin and bottles of water. What a place. Overall, this was probably one of the worst hotels I've ever had the displeasure of visiting, and I've been to a lot. I had high hopes for this place considering I once was a local and grew up here in Mariposa. Supporting the local economy is something I know is vital in this area, but wow. I think Best Western may have to be my go-to when I visit again instead. The staff here is great though. All kind, fun, exceptional people, and I cannot praise them enough. But everything else is horrible. I suggest a complete tear down and just start anew. From the awful furniture, EXTREMELY uncomfortable bed and pillows, and the disgusting smells and janky electrics, I will never visit this establishment again. Newly renovated. Would stay again. Mariposa appears to be filled with mediocre lodging, and I'm happy I picked this one out of the bunch. We visited in June 2023 with a toddler and felt comfortable with her toddling around the room. The floor was a bit uneven, the beds were very firm, but after exploring Yosemite all day we all slept great. From a toddler parent point of view: there was easily enough room for the pack in play and our luggage and a stroller if you have one. The air conditioning unit worked great, was loud like most hotel ACs, but it didn't wake my daughter or freeze her out. The Monarch Inn has some king rooms! A King room is preferred so when my toddler wakes in the early morning she can join us in bed and we can all continue getting good rest. The tub was clean but slippery, so make sure you use the provided anti slip mat. The bathroom is small, but bath time happened easily anyway. The water pressure and temperature was great, and there was a plug in the tub. The mini fridge worked great and kept her formula at the right temp. The freezer is super small but effective, however if I was needing it for breast milk, i wouldn't rely on that freezer. The sink/vanity is outside the bathroom (which has a proper door and fan! None of this trendy barn door nonsense that doesn't offer any privacy and a toddler can easily open or get their fingers stuck in all the gaps around the barn door...) the vanity counter space is small. We were able to wash bottles in the tub we brought and just barely have enough counter space to dry them. It worked. Overall we were happy with the Monarch Inn. read more

This isn't a 5 star hotel, but it was comfortable! My husband and I stayed here when visiting Yosemite. From the hotel it is about 45 minutes to 70 minutes drive. It seems like a lot of you have traveled a long way, but the drive up there is so pretty! This hotel is in the center of the town of Mariposa. A good location. It seems that it is family owned and the family runs the hotel. They were there anytime we needed anything. We really just stayed in the hotel to sleep and take a shower. The room wasn't the nicest, but it worked and the bed was comfortable. The shower had really hot water, so be sure to check temperature before getting in! I did not take pictures, but we had a two queen size beds in our room and we didn't want room keeping, so we just had the do not disturb sign up the 4 days we were there. Overall, it was a good place to stay and we don't have any complaints. read more

Pro: None. Con: Mold on the bathroom ceiling. The wall is so thin, not only you can hear the flush or shower from the other rooms, you can hear their fart, and the sound of the poop dropping. When people shower, it's so loud, it literally feels like you're in the same room as them. The soap is so thin, it broke apart. You would think they'll give you more if you have 4 guests. The towels have the smell like when you've left them in the closet for a very long time. It has the texture of something you haven't use in a very long time. The water pressure from the shower head is minimal. The iron is actually located under the sink. Why is it under the sink. And there's no ironing board. The breakfast is free because there was no breakfast!!! Same goes for the Wi-Fi. THE FRONT DESK IS CLOSE FROM 10pm-6AM.. There's nobody to complain to about the noise from the other guest. I'm staying on the first floor, I had to go to 2nd floor to request the guest to tell their children to stop jumping. Even after the father apologized, The noise continued until morning. Outside it looks pretty, but inside is garbage. The service is garbage, and structure is garbage. The internet is garbage. 90% is cannot connect and 10% wifi connection status is at 14% Even just depending on your mobile data requires you to step outside the street to get a connection. See below for all the pictures I've taken. The wifi is disable after 10pm. Nobody can connect, I've confirmed this with other guests. No way to call the front desk, obviously since not a single employee is here. The next morning, there's not a single employee in the whole building. The sign closed 10pm-6amon the front desk is still there untouched. Every guest was expecting for breakfast and nothing is available. The place is deserted. I had to call Hotel.com and they had to contact the owner directly!! And I was informed that he is coming to the Inn immediately. Hotels.com gave me a compensation in a form of a coupon. Wtf.. What am I going to do with a coupon when in fact I am not planning to stay in the this place again. We've waited for another hour and owner nor any employee including manager, receptionist or a single house keeper has come to work. I don't want to waste my time any longer, so I went to Yosemite and will speak to the owner when I come back. After speaking with the booking company, I have informed other frustrated guest to do same thing as well. This company should get shut down or at least severely penalized for violation codes of leaving thr facility unattended, unsafe operations and mistreatment of all guests. We came back at 7pm and the same sign 10pm-6am is still there. LAUGHABLE on how this city was able to give this establishment permission to operate. Talked to Roger, who is the manager of the Inn, - before my check out. And point out all the things that I mentioned above. I asked him why the wifi was disabled and his response was "we guarantee our internet is working" . Which I response that has nothing to do with anything because disabling the Wi-Fi means someone manually have to go in the router address and disabled the Wi-Fi option inside the hub. He claims that he has over 10 years experience working in a hotel, yet he has no knowledge of the rules and regulations of how to operate it. and he tried to associate something with me by saying he lives in San Francisco?! which is bags of doodoo because why would you live in San Francisco and drive 4 hours to Mariposa to work for a hotel when San Francisco has a higher wage than any other city outside of San Francisco County, not to mention commute time. that alone is a lie. Do not come here and if you are a previous guest of this place. I would recommend to go to Mariposa County website and report them to the city council for malicious behavior. read more

Stayed there for 1 night. Will not come back. The walls are paper thin. You can hear EVERYTHING your neighbor is doing. When they shower, its super loud, when they flush the toilet, you will hear it - its loud. You will hear people walking above you if you're not on the top floor. All in all, I did not get a good nights rest because of how thin the walls are. If you get a noisy neighbor, plan on not sleeping at all. Thanks goodness I only stayed 1 night. read more

Also have a difficulties finding comfortable pillows in the hotels. Got extra towels and blankets on request. Friendly, courteous staff. Nice continental breakfast. I've stayed in this hotel for almost a month, I'm here on work. Mostly quiet, comfortable beds, updated amenities. Mini fridge and microwave in the room, friendly staff. DIRECTV. Centrally located on Mariposa's strip, puts you at walking distance for many shops and restaurants. There is a new small breakfast nook in the lobby. Freshly painted, many new updates even since I've been here. I look forward to the next 24 days I am staying here. read more

Not many items in the room was operational like the microwave, the TV, the refrigerator. We were lucky the AC/heater was working but it was loud and noisy. They did not provide room services such as picking up used towels and provide you with new ones. Trash was not picked up. This was bad for us since we planned to stay 3 nights. Beware people with disabilities protected by ADA! Upon checking in the access for my husband's service animal was denied due to "no pet policy". I called booking.com who sold me a room, they talked on our behalf, but the front desk man was denying the access anyway saying "people have allergies, we can't have pets in here". I ended up calling a sheriff's office. After deputy arrived and explained my husband's rights to the front desk man we were allowed to enter and sleep. It was already 2 am. We spent 2 hours trying to protect and enforce the law. The man at the front desk and the owner are not aware of the law in regards of ADA. Next thing you know, they will deny a wheel chair access because of its inconvenience. We will be calling ADA in regards of this encounter, BBB and civil rights office. read more

Stayed here for a night before heading to the Yosemite. For the price, the hotel was great. Comfortable beds, clean room and bathroom, and complimentary breakfast in the morning. Take it from a Mariposan.. Probably the worst place to stay in this wonderful town. I'd have been so off put if I were a tourist. We intended on camping but all sites were full and we wanted a hot shower after a day in the park so we bit the bullet and paid the $140 for the room (only place available in town.) I will say it was clean, and there was a sweet girl working the front desk when we arrived. Those are the only pros. Now for the bad. This is not a boutique hotel by any means of the word. It is just your typical crappy looking hotel. Our room wasn't even remodeled yet. It had Super 8 type decor from like 1993. Our room also faced a concrete wall with a dumpster in front of it. Perfect view of this scenic town. I was happy it was us locals stuck with that spot and not someone who'd driven 3000 miles to get there. Nothing pretty about it. We requested a late check out upon our arrival. She told us the latest we could stay was 11:30am. The next morning as we're getting our things together we get a call from an irate Indian man at the front desk at 11:05am telling me we were late checking out and we have to get out now or he will charge our room again. What a great way to treat people who just spent and insane amount of money to stay in your terrible hotel. I told him about our request and he questioned me "Who told you that?" Finally he said, ok, 11:30, you have 10 minuets. We actually still had 25... Never in my life have I been called about checking out. Also, twice during the morning we had housekeeping knocking on our door even though we had a do not disturb sign up. Ugh. We recommend instead: Mariposa Lodge, River Rock, The Bug Hostel, just camping somewhere.. read more

BED BUGS No a/c in hotel public areas, a/c not turned on in room. Wifi didn't work, tub faucet ran all night, crack in bathroom mirror, woke up to find a bed bug next to my pillow. Charged me $143 for a single room. I called after I could find pictures of a bedbug to confirm it wasn't something else. The woman stated I should have told her the night before (like I was able to know prior to the incident), then she asked what i expected her to do (in which i asked what she would like to do- no response), and i advised her that i would be posting reviews on the internet. First of all by looking at the posts other people wrote about this place kinda scared me. HOWEVER my wife and I are sure glad we didn't let them influence our decision to stay here. It was absolutely wonderful! NOTHING that was a concern posted by others were encountered by us. We were greeted upon arrival by Monica who informed us that she was the G.M. She was KIND, HELPFUL, RESPECTFUL and EVERYTHING you would expect from a hotel concierge. We had no problems from the very start of our stay. We even brought my service dog Luci with us and she was welcomed just as much. The lobby and interior of the hotel was clean and welcoming. Our room was just as expected at any other hotel. Clean and Tidy. We enjoyed our vacation and only booked two nights but Monica was able to book us a 3rd night with no problem. Staying here provided us with easy access to Yosemite Park to enjoy 2 days instead of one. Upon checkout we were given the bill and were amazed at how easy the whole process was and the fact that we booked on Expedia made it VERY cost effective. Monica is the true reason I'm writing this now. To let EVERYONE know that the MONARCH HOTEL is in fact a GREAT place to stay thanks to her. She really cared about us and our entire trip to Mariposa. The hotel is remodeled! So, it as very good room. Very clean. New carpet, new sheets, floors and bathroom tile and tiles. Absolutely comfortable bed and pillows. A great value for this Inn. I haughty recommend it. The front people were very nice. Expedia made a mistake with the rate and they absolutely went far and beyond to accommodate us. Actually we got a better rate than Expedia which were supposed to price match. The monarch Inn manager was wonderful and attentive!! Great customer service. The breakfast is a basic but good enough for a quick cup of coffee and a bite. Continental toast and cereal or you hurt, juice or milk. Very good for a quick morning. No complaints. Please try it out! Nice location to walk to restaurants, gas station. Safe parking. Again, thanks to the wonderful staff! I will stay in the future for sure!!! read more

I would rather sleep in my car than stay at the Monarch Inn.. and a -star if i could. I had the worst experience of my life staying at this place...... I have such a long list of things that I didnt like about this place. Let me take it from the top. We had booked 2 rooms (103 and 104) at 'Monarch Inn' for the night of Aug 1st, 2015. We were a party of 6; me, my husband, my in-laws, my uncle all of whom are senior citizens and my 4 yr old son. When we reached at the hotel, we were allotted our rooms at the front desk. When we reached the rooms, we found that out of the two, one was already occupied by some1. On checking with the front desk, we were told that they had goofed up the booking and that such cases happen once in a quarter or so at the hotel!!! (r u serious????) We had to call the cops, coz the hotel manager's attitude was so casual and I-dont-give-a-damn towards the whole mess. Anyways... so we asked the manager to give us another room and he told us they were booked so he wont be able to give us a room but can provide us with a spare bed. The spare bed that he gave us, was in such a bad condition that any1 sleeping on it would wake up with a bad back condition (if u were able to sleep on it in the first place).. When me and my husband went up to tell the manager (Bob) about the bed, he was so rude to us and pretty much told us that we were lucky he was giving us a spare bed. When i tried to tell him he cannot talk to us in that tone and words, he told me if i didn't stop talking he will throw all of us out of the hotel. With 3 senior citizens and a child, we decided it was wise not to argue with Bob (since all of the other hotels around had no vacancy). Besides that.... The staff is unfriendly, rude and arrogant.. especially the manager of this place 'Bob'. The rooms are shabby and untidy. The a/c in the room (Room 103) we stayed didn't work and made a lot of noise. the carpet looked like it was not vacuumed in years and the toilet door lock didn't work. For anyone booking this place.... i would say think again and go someplace else... For the hotel Management and owners, I would say, fire Bob and hire some1 who is fit to be a hotel manager.. with good people skills.... This was the only hotel with rooms available in Mariposa so that's why we ended here. Room was extremely hot and the ac is very noisy. Staff is not very helpful and breakfast is basically waffles and coffee. Overpriced due to the fact of being close to yosemite. You will find for sure better deals in Mariposa. read more

The website is unclear about the penalty for a cancellation policy and when i called to cancel they told me that no matter how long my reservation was for, they would charge me for one night. I was only going to stay for one night... I didn't even stay there, but I would recommend spending a little extra money and choose somewhere else to say. I'm a bus driver and I spend 100+ nights a year in hotels. I really enjoyed this hotel. It had all the small town charm you want in an area like this and it's close to everything in Mariposa. The staff is amazing! Always quick to help and answer questions. Breakfast is minimal but good. Oatmeal with lots of fixings, danishes, bagels and bread, cereal, boiled eggs, 4 kinds of juice and lots of coffee. The rooms are clean but out dated. The pool was closed which would have been nice. I'd definitely recommend this place to a friend. read more

I stayed here this past weekend. For the amount I paid for I was very disappointed. I arrived at the hotel at 11:30pm and to the lack of being greeted by a sulking short Indian man. I think his name was kerpal or something; instead of saying hello he mentioned "I have been waiting for you" in a very passive aggressive tone to suggest that I was wrong for arriving past his curfew. It isn't my fault you work a job that requires you to stay late for the business. When I was heading to my room his eyes were fixated on me with a resentful glare. When I tried plugging in my devices to charge I found out that some of the outlets do not work. Nor was there any body soap. The sheets and towels felt like sand paper. The website advertised breakfast in the morning but the hotel would only serve coffee and tea. I would highly suggest renting an AirB&B. read more

We didn't have the nightmare experience that other reviewers report. However, it is a cheap hotel. Interestingly, the hotel website we used to book the room had a much higher rating than Yelp. We did experience less than ideal customer service from the person at the front desk. They were doing some renovation work when we visited in May 2014. So, it's possible that conditions have improved since some of the other reviews. One gripe that I don't believe was mentioned by others: the curtains in our room were decorative only and did not close, meaning that we couldn't block out the light. There was only a sheer, thin white curtain that covered the entire window. Fortunately, our room faced the parking lot and no one could see in, but in the summer time months when the sun rises at 6am, you may not want to get up that early. Solution? I used a clothes hangar from the closet and clipped the two drapes together. This made a V-shape which blocked most of the outside light, but was obviously not ideal. read more

THIS PLACE HAS BED BUGS STAY AWAY!!!!!! This place deserves NEGATIVE STARS. We stayed at this DISGUSTING place for one night and woke up with BED BUG BITES. I REPEAT STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORRID PLACE OR YOU WILL BE MISERABLE LIKE US. I got bit over 12 times and my friend got bit over 20 times. We have been suffering for over a WEEK and have had to use very strong topical steroids to try to battle this constant itching. This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in and will NEVER EVER return to this disgusting place. We have contacted the hotel and they denied this. How can they deny this??? They told us to call back today to talk to the manager. After we called they said to call back on wednesday. They are giving us the runaround. This is UNACCEPTABLE. I had to stay at this place as it was the only available room at 22:00. I thought it was a decent looking place until I got to my room. The room looked like it had been hastily "cleaned". The coffee pot still had the previous guest's left over coffee and grinds. There was absolutely no amenities in the bathroom. Soap, shampoo, lotion. I had to go to the front desk to get them. I only got shampoo and soap. The wifi was slow but since I was so tired from my drive to really care it didn't affect me much. My kids slept on top of their sheets as they didn't feel the room was clean. We used the pillows reluctantly. I think the $199 price tag is overpriced for the quality of the room. I will not be staying here again unless the reviews get better. I didn't have an issue with the staff as others have noted in their comments/reviews, that is why I gave it 2 stars. read more

My family stayed there one night after a trip from Yosemite (166$). It was uneventful. There were a microwave, mini-fridge, a TV in the room. Bathroom was clean. Breakfast seems cheap. I didn't try it. The rent was expensive. Next time, we will either book a place in Yosemite valley or drive farther to Merced (44 miles) to get cheaper motels. read more
