I love love love this place. We visited this restaurant for an early dinner around 5:30 pm and easily got seated. It's a casual style restaurant but the server comes to take your order at the table. They have amazing Indian-chinese food. Always been a fan of monks heights location, as it was owned by same owner and was in area order few take out. One of biggest mistakes was ordered lot of items which were all felt like checkin and gobi very stale and may be cooked over 10 days ago. Chicken was like chewing on rubber and all dishes were super super oily. Same goes with ulavacharu biryani was horrible and same chicken felt cooked few days ago, had to throw away most of the appetizers and biryani. Only saving grace was heir Hakka noodles which were decent. Ambience is not so good and floors were super slipper and counters were dirty with no one in the restaurant. I always drive past Monk's and was tempted to enter. I finally tried their food and am very sad I waited this long! The service was friendly, the decor neat and the food flavorful! I loveeeee the momos! The chewy exterior was filled with a rich meaty filling. I literally had to stop myself so I could eat the noodles. This dish was also so hearty, with just the right kick of spice. The portions were also very generous, with a few dishes going a long way for a group of people. This is a must try indo-chinese spot. I went with my family to celebrate a birthday and the food was absolutely delicious. For appetizers, we got the tandoori paneer momos and the hara masala ka bhuna paneer (long name, but worth it!). Both were absolutely delicious. The tandoori paneer momos had an unexpected spice but we couldn't stop eating them. The paneer manchurian, paneer Tikka masala, and vegetable korma were also great dishes. I probably should have submit a review sooner. Monk's is amazing. My partner and I have eaten in-house once, and while the indoor vibe is nothing spectacular, the place is clean, and organized. The service is efficient and quick. The green chili noodles are a consistent hit, and every single time we get Monk's we order the CANNOT-BE-MISSED fiery sichuan. We have only ordered it with cauliflower - so cannot comment on the other options, but this so deliciously spicy (but beware - getting this already spicy dish at a spicy heat level might be unbearable for the average person). The green chili rice is also delicious - and I'm particular to paneer, but I'm sure other options would be tasty too. This is a very cost-effective restaurant. I come here pretty often when craving some chicken biryani. The place is located in a shopping center that is very busy at night so parking can be an issue. I usually get the vijaywada chicken biryani and sometimes the butter chicken as well. The biryani can be a little spicy for non spicy people but it's got great flavor. I hated my first experience at this pace but decided to give this place a second chance. We ordered Chinese bhel puri, chicken chettinad , naan and veg garlic noodles. Chicken chettinad tasted good. Chinese bhel was nothing more than sauce. I felt as if i am eating sauce. We decided to get the veg garlic noodles to-go for my wife as she was full with the Chinese bhel. When she was eating veg garlic noodles the next day, she found a piece of chicken in the noodles. She is a pure vegetarian and she was so upset to see this. I am glad we do not have any life threatening allergies but this is a huge negligence on restaurant's part. Someone could be in a fatal situation just because of the chefs ignorance. I'm giving them a five star rating based heavily on the food. Holy moly, this place was absolutely delicious!! We dined in on a Thursday evening - it was pretty empty which was great for us as we aren't comfortable with crowds right now. The inside is super cute with a huge mural on one wall and comfy booths that line the other wall. The customer service was alright - we were brought the wrong entree and didn't fully realize it until we went to pay and he told us what we were paying for (we thought it didn't taste like what we had wanted ). We also wanted the gobi Manchurian and were served the veggie Manchurian but it was delicious just the same. Besides these mistakes, staff was otherwise friendly and attentive. The two appetizers that we had were to DIE FOR. The veggie Manchurian has a flavor that I am unable to describe as it's nothing like I've ever had before with my typical American diet. It wasn't too spicy at all so I definitely recommend that everyone try it out! Gobi is Hindi for cauliflower (we originally ordered the Gobi Manchurian) but either the veggie or gobi is a great choice! Now... The Magic Maggie Rolls... If you've ever eaten Magic Maggie Masala noodles (they're India's version of ramen noodles and they are spicy + 10x better), then picture these delicious noodles wrapped up into egg roll paper and fried. I ordered online, so not much to say about service and ambience. Ordered the chicken fry biryani with a lollipop upgrade. Total was $34 for the family size biryani and was more than enough for 2 people. The taste of this was amazing. I'd rank this biryani between Biryani Pot's chicken 65 biryani at #3 and Aga's Goat Biryani still at my #1 in Houston. That's personal preference I suppose but this Chicken Fry Lollipop Biryani definitely is one of the best I've had in the greater houston area and across the country as well! Thus far I have been twice to the Westhiemer location and both times I was in the middle of the road with what I had. Though oddly enough the first time I went I didn't enjoy the appetizers and loved the entrees and the level of heat that brought a sweat. This last time I loved the appetizers and was not having the same experience I had with the entrees as the first time...no heat and flavors were off. This time I did love the man chow soup and the momo dumplings, liked the gobi manchchurian, would have loved it we leveled up the heat...I enjoyed the Chicken Gongura, but again heat was lacking. Many thought it had too much onion flavor or garum masala. Also the Garlic burnt rice and Garlic Naan were tasty...it definitely will keep dracula away. Dang this place is the bomb! I came here on a whim wanting some Indian food and man was I pleasantly surprised! We ordered the dynamite chicken which was yummy but quite spicy. The guy saw me fanning my mouth (from temperature) and came to ask if k thought it was too spicy- that's some good service! I said no it's just hot which is just how I like my food! Steaming hot! Speaking of steaming hot, I also got the cumin lamb hot plate.. this came out steaming hot literally and so delicious! It's a huge potion I can't wait to have it again. We also ordered the tikka masala and butter chicken with garlic naan. Literally everything was seasoned and flavoured so well. My new fave Indian place and prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. I was given a complimentary yummy dessert at the end. This is a nice place for Indo Chinese. We were very very skeptical after reading some reviews and we didn't know whether to try this or not. We walked in and we were the only ones. Well, we decided to try it out. We arrived at 6:45 pm which is not time for desis to eat. We desis normally eat dinner after 7:30 pm and sure enough by the time we were done, there was a steady crowd. Foodwise- their spicy masala noodles is THE bomb! Takes you to the Indian street side thela which sold hot and freshly fried Hakka noodles with classic spices. We decided to save some for after a late night movie and drink ;) their chilli chicken was delicious and had a nice kick but way too much gravy and comparatively less chicken. Then we got burnt garlic fried rice which also hits the spot for that Indian street food. My little one got the kids meal which is less spicy but very flavorful. One dish we didn't care for much was the green chilli fish. The sauce is great but the fish coated in egg had a bit eggy smell. Good portion sizes and priced well. We also got a mango lassi and I liked that they serve in bottle with a cap and it was not too sweet. Ambience was great too with nice murals on the wall and soothing indi pop remixes in the background. Enjoyed our evening! This place did not disappoint. I just ordered it for the first time and it certainly won't be the last. Magic Maggie Rolls - wow! Absolutely fantastic. The fact they were a bit soggy from delivery did not take away from the dish at all. I can't wait to fry up the leftovers later. Gobi Green Chili - This dish has a great balance of heat and flavor. I get what people were saying about the oil, but it works with this dish. I can't wait to try it with paneer instead of Gobi. Paneer Tikka Masala - So creamy and flavorful. This place is pretty amazing. It's not often I review places unless deserving of stars. Get the Burnt Garlic Fried Rice. We got the veggie version and it doesn't disappoint. Very strong flavors and could be a meal by itself. We also tried the Malai Chicken and Monks Special Goat. The meat was tender on both. These dishes are excellent for any habitual naan dipping tendencies you might have. Place could use a little light music in the background but its not a deal breaker. Certainly, music playing much too loudly is a deal breaker. Definantly coming back to try other dishes but will have to make the Burnt Garlic Fried Rice a regular thing for me. read more

Worst service I have ever experienced so far ! We ordered Manchurian, baby corn chilli, fried rice, chilli chicken, paneer dim sums. Every item was extremely salty but manchurian had way too much salt. When we complained about manchurian having too much salt, the chef came out with manchurian bowl in hand and asked "what is the problem with the dish?" On replying it had too much salt, he got offended and said "this is not too much salt. This is the normal amount of salt. This is how we cook manchurian." Further, he said If i add less salt you'll taste only soy sauce. If I felt the dish was way too salty for me, the chef has no right to say "its not too much salt". That kind of customer service is unbelievable. Never going back to this shitty place again and do not recommend this to anyone. read more

We stayed with Manchou soup with chicken - it was every bit as good as Manchou soup I've had in Powai - delicious, I can see is going back just for the soup. Terrible....I ordered takeout, the Chinese Chicken Manchuria lunch combo with fried rice. The chicken entree was in a soup like container which was appropriate because the Manchuria sauce had the thin consistency of broth and no flavor just an oddly spicy afte taste. The rice flavor had potential but was old and as I'm eating it had a random crunch to one of my spoonfuls which scares the crap out me!! I'm throwing it all away, waste of $11. I'm not even trying the actual soup that came with the combo. The only good thing about the meal was the tiny spring roll that I assume was previously frozen and made elsewhere. A standout restaurant! Among so many nearby Indian restaurants, The Monk's is one of the special ones. We have eaten in and gotten to go several times and have never been disappointed. I would make dish recommendations, however many of the dishes we ordered were off-menu or slightly different. They do a great job of asking what you like, how hot you like your food, and making recommendations. Each dish has been great. Desi-Chinese cuisine? I was intrigued. I came to The Monk's for takeout and had their Monk's Special noodles, Lollipop Chicken Biryani, and vegetable Momos. In case you haven't heard of momos, they're like Nepalese dumplings...they have a distinct flavor that has the kick of a samosa on the inside but the texture of an East Asian dumpling on the outside. They're delicious, especially doused in the special curry-like sauce that comes with the dumplings. The noodles were so interesting! They looked like Chinese noodles but the cumin-like flavor brought out the Desi flavors. I really liked them! The Lollipop Chicken Biryani was probably my favorite dish we ordered; the chicken was sooooo flavorful (if you're sensitive to spicy food this might not be for you). Sweet and spicy, and the meat was delicious! I only wish they provided more chicken in the biryani--this dish was so addicting! I'm gonna get food from here again, for sure! Surprisingly, the food was extremely spicy making some people eat in discomfort. I believe that they should have specified on their menu as to what level of spice it would be.
