Being from the Dallas/Plano very familiar with Haywire. Here in San Antonio visiting my kids so had to remind them of the "yum" of Haywire. This month they have the Cowgirl Dinner/Lunch. It is a smoking deal for value, taste and completeness. Everything was just perfect. The cocktails were just right and tasty. Our server Ty was amazing, attentive and down to earth. Very popular restaurant but the service was incredibly slow. We went on a Saturday night and it was so busy. It took forever to get our drinks despite most of us ordering bottled beer and sodas. I came to Haywire with a group of 10 to celebrate my Air Force separation, so it was a special occasion. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere, and the food definitely lived up to the hype. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the desserts were a great way to end the meal. Since it was a busy Saturday night, I understand that longer wait times for the food and drinks were expected, so I don't fault the restaurant for that. The biggest disappointment was our server. Unfortunately, he never introduced himself, so I didn't catch his name. He came across as rude and wasn't very knowledgeable about the beer selection when we had questions. Throughout the meal, he repeatedly pointed out that certain items would be an additional charge, even after I had already acknowledged it, which felt unnecessary and came across a bit oddly. A friendlier, more welcoming attitude would have made a big difference, especially for a celebration. *Happy Hour Review* Stopped in for the first time recently to the San Antonio location of Haywire...I've previously had an underwhelming brunch experience at the Houston location so I was a little skeptical but Im happy to report this location was a huge step up. Immediately upon walking in I fell in love with the rustic yet elegant decor (those chandeliers tho). My girlfriends and I sat at the bar and enjoyed great service during our entire 3 hour visit there. The cocktail and bites we enjoyed were all delicious. During happy hour there are select cocktail and bites you can enjoy for $7 each. My drink of choice for the evening was the perfectly balanced Berry Smash . I was torn on bites but ended up going with the Happy Hour sliders and the pork belly appetizer from the regular menu. Both were soooo good...particularly the Pork Belly which was a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and savory. This visit redeemed Haywire in my eyes and I'm looking forward to returning during regular hours to explore more of the menu during dinner service. read more

I really wanted to love Haywire but it was unfortunately a disappointing experience. I was visiting SATX and saw the Cowgirl Dinner advertised heavily on social media, so I was eager to try it and the $30 price made it even more intriguing. Unfortunately it fell flat of expectations and the photos and our very sweet server and hostesses were the only redeeming parts. Starting with the ambience, upon arriving to our reservation for 8:30, we ended up waiting another 30 minutes until we were seated after many other parties. I understand that things can get busy with walk-ins but it was a bit frustrating to stand waiting until the limited lobby seating opened up for us to then wait another 20 minutes for a table we reserved to finally open up. The restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing and the chandeliers and beautiful booth seating plus the partially-open kitchen setup is nice to look at however, and I can see why this spot is appealing as a girls night out dinner spot. The hostesses were very sweet and our server was kind as well, which made the experience better. However, the Cowgirl Dinner was disappointing and I would have preferred to pay double for a decent meal. The steak was very dry and bland, and I don't know that it was seasoned at all. The salad was also somehow dry and felt stale, and the fries were fine but nothing extraordinary. We also got a mac & cheese on the side to split which was also oddly bland and watery. I desperately wanted to enjoy this meal but it really just fell flat. I would recommend Texas Roadhouse before I would probably go here again unfortunately, and it may just be the Cowgirl Dinner specifically which is not the best, since I have not been here before. You CANNOT beat their amazing March deal which scores you a 5 oz steak with roasted garlic butter, tallow fries, side classic caesar salad and a dirty martini or lemon drop martini! Just WOW! All that for $30! Everything that was there was delicious and their caesar salad was something else! Much different flavor combinations than other places that I've had elsewhere! Came for "dinner" during lunch hour and it was just so perfect as it wasn't super busy that we basically had a giant table just for ourselves! My wife and I went on a date here and got steaks. I will say the steak was perfectly cooked as I wanted it, and had a great sear on the outside and medium on the inside. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because of a few issues. The first issue is that my wife and I had a reservation and still had to wait close to 30 minutes to be seated. I'd understand maybe 10 minutes or less, but a 30 minute wait with a reservation felt too long. The other reason I did not give it a 5 star is because of the fries. They were sitting ready to be taken to the customers in the kitchen, and we got some that tasted like they were sitting for too long and were stale and not that great since they were not fresh. The third issue was that we bought a bottle of wine, a bubbly one, and it was hot, so the first pour was not that great. But once it was in the ice, it tasted much better. Tonight was my second visit to Haywire, and unfortunately it confirmed the same issues I experienced the first time. On my first visit, I ordered the Cowgirl Dinner, while my husband ordered the 8 oz filet with the Frozen Texas Tea. I noticed the table next to us ordered the exact same Cowgirl Dinner, yet it was served with different plateware and a different presentation. The inconsistency wasn't a huge deal, but what disappointed me was that the meal wasn't very satisfying. The steak was just okay, the salad had lettuce that was already turning red, and the Lemon Drop Martini was mediocre. I was still hungry afterward, so I ordered the sliders--and I'm glad I did. They were juicy, flavorful, and filling. I also really enjoyed the Bourbon Smash. I left thinking the Cowgirl Dinner could be worth ordering, but only if you planned on ordering more food. Tonight, I decided to give Haywire another chance. I originally planned to order the sliders again because they ended up being one of my favorite things on the menu, only to find out they had been discontinued. That was another example of the inconsistency I'd already experienced. Instead, I ordered the pork bites, another Bourbon Smash, a margarita, and the Cowgirl Dinner. Unfortunately, it was another disappointing experience. Even though we ordered as soon as we were seated, our food took about 30 minutes to arrive. My steak was cooked medium-well to well-done even though I ordered it medium, and it was cold, almost as if it had been sitting out. My Bourbon Smash didn't taste like it did during my first visit, and the salad had the same issue as before--old, soggy lettuce. Even the croutons were soft from absorbing moisture. The only thing I truly enjoyed this time was the pork bites. I mentioned these concerns to our waiter because I genuinely hoped the restaurant would improve its consistency. He kindly offered us complimentary dessert, which we politely declined because we simply wanted to provide feedback. A little later, the manager came to our table. We hadn't asked to speak with a manager, but she responded to each concern with an explanation rather than empathy. Regarding my steak, she explained that the steaks rest after cooking, which can cause them to continue cooking and cool down. While some carryover cooking is expected, it generally shouldn't take a properly cooked medium steak all the way to medium-well or well-done. The bigger inconsistency is that if it rested long enough to become cold, it also rested longer than ideal. Regarding the salad, she assured us their salads are made fresh. However, freshly assembling a salad doesn't necessarily mean the ingredients themselves are fresh. Old lettuce can still be used in a salad that was assembled just minutes earlier, and unfortunately that's exactly how mine appeared on both visits. Regarding the Bourbon Smash, she and our waiter confirmed that they had switched to a premade mix to save time. That explanation actually validated my experience because it confirmed the recipe had changed, which is exactly what I noticed. She also acknowledged that the restaurant intentionally changes its presentation and plateware, explaining why identical dishes can look different--even within the same day. I wasn't looking for anything to be taken off our bill, and I wasn't expecting free food. I simply wanted to provide honest feedback after experiencing many of the same issues twice. I think people are generally much more receptive to explanations after they first feel heard. Instead, the conversation immediately felt like defending the restaurant rather than acknowledging why a returning customer would be disappointed. If you decide to visit, I'd recommend skipping the Cowgirl Dinner and ordering the 6 oz filet instead. It's only slightly more expensive and seems to be the better value. The pork bites were excellent, and if the sliders ever make a comeback, I'd absolutely recommend those too. Unfortunately I don't think we'll be back. read more

I made reservations at Haywire for the first time to celebrate my birthday. I was looking for somewhere new to try and after a little searching I landed on Haywire--and I'm so glad I did. First off, this place is a total showstopper. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere just grabs you. It feels upscale and polished but still has that warm Texas charm. The design, the vibe, everything about it makes it feel like a special place. We had an amazing experience, and the sweet young lady who took care of us all night was fantastic. Every recommendation she gave us was spot on. We started with drinks and their meat and cheese board. My husband ordered the Haywire Old Fashioned (Texas pour) and said it was one of the best he's had in a long time--he ended up ordering three, so that should tell you everything you need to know. I don't drink alcohol, so I was excited to see they had mocktails on the menu--and not just as an afterthought. I ordered the Mojito Refresher and wow... it was incredibly refreshing and easily one of the most enjoyable mocktails I've had anywhere. For dinner my husband ordered the Cowboy Ribeye with shrimp and tallow fries. It came out perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and looked absolutely mouthwatering. I ordered the redfish and I'm so glad I did. It was light, fresh, and beautifully prepared--honestly the kind of dish you keep thinking about after the meal is over. I really wish we had a place as nice and upscale as Haywire on the northeast side of San Antonio, but this spot was absolutely worth dealing with the traffic. If you plan to go, definitely make reservations. We went on a Tuesday and by 6 PM the place was filling up fast with people waiting out the door. Went for a mom's night out and was two of our first time there. The ambiance is beautiful. I wish I would have taken more pictures of the inside. But it was so busy and we got sat down so fast. We got seated upstairs which was also so nice and private. We got the shrimp and pork belly bites as an appetizer. Went here on the weekend. It was my first time. There were lots of parking spaces out front. I didn't have to wait long for a very spacious seat inside. Service was good, and the food was delicious. I didn't get any drinks, but I enjoyed it so much that I went back the next day. I did make a reservation online, but it wasn't busy when I arrived both times. It did pick up after. I Love the ambiance! It's airy and spacious and the vibe is alive and classy, but comfortable. I wouldn't go here in shorts and a T-shirt or flip flops. It's a care what you wear kinda place!! The bar is comfortable and not cramped, and if you want it, they'll make it. The service was top notch, especially at the bar, which isn't always what I find at a busy place. This was an amazing and very laid back, restful lunch with friends. The place is in the La Cantera mall. So, that is not what I knew, so, fair warning. We went there the 2 weeks before Christmas, so parking was a bear, but only because we didnt want to pay for valet. The wine list was extensive. Went here for a date night on Saturday, arrived around 5pm and only had to wait about 10-15 minutes. The decor is amazing, there is always something new to look at. I love the candlelit tables. The food was amazing! I got the redfish (not pictured) sooo tender, well seasoned, and the shrimp & lump crab on top were so perfect. The asparagus with the lemon butter sauce was delicious. My fiance also loved his chicken fried steak. Our only complaint was the veggies needed a tad more salt, but that's no big deal. The pineapple mojito mocktail was very refreshing. We came here to celebrate our daughter's birthday, my first time here. W we made reservations as we had 11 in our group. I was very impressed with the restaurant and our server. We ordered the Queso Blanco as starter which we all throughly enjoyed. I ordered a Midnight in Marfa Margarita to drink which was very smooth and refreshing. My wife ordered the Struped Bass which she really enjoyed and I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak which was excellent. Miserable experience overall. I haven't even had the food yet, but it doesn't matter how good it is when the atmosphere is miserable. We reserved "the Airstream" a couple of weeks in advance. The problem is that, when we reserved it at 7:00 pm iAugust no one said anything along the lines of "You are aware that it's basically an over at that time of day?" So we are sitting in the Airstream, sweating, and hating life. There is a small AC in the Airstream, but it doesn't remotely handle the solar load and openness of the prop RV. They could have added cooling capacity. The could have warned us. They could have put some sort of shade structure between the Airstream and the sun, but they did none of those things. Top that all off with "the service sucks out there" and it's been delightful, so far. So, no matter how good the food may or may not be my memory of Haywire will be one of absolute misery. So, food finally arrived. Half a dozen steaks and we had to go find steak knives. Drinks have been empty, over and over, for significant amounts of time. Food is good. No one is really eating because we are all just sitting in the tin can sweating. It's worse than sitting outside because it blocks any breeze. Also, why is water without ice a good thing while sitting on a 90 degree patio? To top it all off, the just deliver a drink that was ordered when we sat down - around 90 minutes ago. read more

My niece was in town, my boys were starving ( like always) and I was ready for some really good food--not fast food, but something worth slowing down and enjoying. Haywire was the perfect excuse and If you read my other reviews I'm not a big fan of long waits so we came at the perfect time; LUNCH TIME! Thankfully it wasn't busy, so we were seated right away. Haywire is one of our favorite restaurants in San Antonio. It is a rustic yet elegant steakhouse with comfy, country fare and upscale decor. We have been for both brunch and dinner. The food and drinks have been superb and cooked to order. Steaks have been cooked perfectly, sides are delectable, and the Redfish is delightful. The Brussels Sprouts are a favorite and don't skip the desserts. Try their signature home cake that tastes much like a spice cake. Drinks are wonderful as well. Very disappointed in the visit my friends and I had on August 20th. My friend made a reservation in advance for 7:30 pm for a group of us. Once we arrived, the host gave us an initial wait just because she said people are still seated at our table but she assured us they would be done shortly. 20 minutes go by and we go to the host and she says they're still seated and we will still have to wait. At this point we are hungry and annoyed but what else can we do. We didn't get seated till 8:20 pm...almost an hour after an our reserved time. Ridiculous and poor planning on their part. Was told about this place from a reliable restaurant goer, and decided to pop in while on short getaway. Walking up, Haywire gives premium restaurant vibes. Walking in, I was pleasantly surprised that the inside met the outside's expectation. I arrived a little early for my reservation, but the awesome hostesses were able to get us a table. It's a good thing I made that reservation (6:30 on a Friday), because the restaurant filled up pretty quickly. We were seated at a table upstairs (upstairs is superior for date nights), given a couple of menus, and our waitress took our drink order soon after. Everything is sourced locally and made to order. I ended up getting an old fashioned (one of the best I've had) to go with my New York Strip and brussel sprouts. The wife had a spicy margarita and a chicken dish. I got my steak the only reasonable way (mid rare). The seasoning and taste for both were phenomenal. You could taste the care in the food. We ended up getting a second round of drinks (the bourbon specialty drink was great). Maybe we caught them on a really good day, but we should've gotten meals to go! The beef was grilled to perfection, with basic condiments being all that was needed. The Cobb was enormous, definitely sized for two people. Over the course of three days we ate at this location twice...lunch and dinner. My general impression is it needs a lot of work ... attention to detail that is currently lacking. A very good location, plenty of space, large bar, decor is a very rich ranch feel. The service was a mix. The lunch waitress was not very attentive. Then they figured it out and moved us. Most important was a steak house that was out of three steaks on their menu. How does that even happen? Lack of planning? The food was a mix. - the Cobb salad was tasty but drenched in salad dressing. - loved the queso with picadillo. - Chicken fried chicken had a thick, crispy batter. The gravy was good. The green beans were seasoned well and cooked perfectly. - The bar drinks were unique .. front porch swing was a combo of rudy red vodka, aperol, juices and agave. - The steaks were not cooked correctly nor were they consistent. Medium rare is not 90% red meat. The seasoning was too salty. I had to send the first steak back as it was missing the garlic. - The mash potatoes were inconsistent between the two meals. Lunch was creamy, seasoned well, and buttery. Dinner was chunky, little seasoning or butter. - The grilled shrimp was amazing!!! So 2 meals for $210 (before tips). Visited twice now, and overall I've really enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere has a warm upscale Texas feel and makes for a great date night or girls' night out. I LOVE the chandeliers!! The food presentation is beautiful and the service has been great both visits. My only downside, and the reason for taking away a star, is that I've had to deal with gnats both times I visited. read more

Haywire is a wonderful addition to the restaurant options at The Shops at La Cantera. Their food is wonderful from appetizers to desserts, just drinks or entrees. The atmosphere is gorgeous, decorated in western glamorous decor complete with heavy wood rustic furniture and a ceiling full of chandeliers. The bar and wine wall are photo worthy as well and all of the servers are dressed in western wear. They have numerous seating areas and ample space but reservations are recommended for busy times. The chocolate cake is to die for but you might need help to finish it after a meal! The craft drinks are amazing, beautifully created at an amazingly crafted bar. Haywire has it all, ambiance wonderful service and delicious food with a rotating menu and something for everyone. read more

My husband and I came here last Sunday to celebrate our 8th year anniversary . We came here for brunch and we had an appetizer the Vaquero shrimp which was so fresh and flavorful and the shrimps were pretty large that I felt very full already after eating at least 4 pcs . Then my entree which is the Crab cakes Benedict and my husband had the Ranch Hand breakfast with that thick cut bacon and potatoes as well as some eggs . Finally my husband ordered their homemade pecan pie which was so sinfully delicious . All the food were flavorful and the servings are all generous . This was my first time here, my sister recommended this location and made dinner reservations. Parking wasn't bad at all. The location at La Cantera is nice, easy to locate. Once we walked in the hostess wasn't at the door so we weren't immediately geared however it only took a minute or two but they were welcoming with a smile. We were directed to our table and our server came over immediately. She was really attentive and friendly. The food is pricey but well worth it! I will most definitely be coming back. read more
