This place had both- traditional bar/grill foods, and some fresher salads/Asian-style bowls for the faint-of-stomach. They have a happy hour 3-6 (which we missed), but their beers were only a bit over $7CAD for a pint. What a price! The cocktail my dad tried was very sweet, I'd recommend sticking to their local brews unless you like a very sweet drink. We had the following: - Poutine (added bacon): Delicious. Very salty (expected for poutine), thick-cut fries slathered in gravy and topped with generous cheese curds. Great place for poutine if you're visiting and want to try. - Butter chicken bowl: Not as sweet as a traditional butter chicken, but a solid option if you're craving it. Solid portion for a grown man. - West coast chop salad: Light, refreshing, delicious goat cheese. Came with about half a chicken breast. Good option if you're not super hungry, it was enough food for me (young woman). - Dragon boat lettuce wraps: Came in two plates, one stir fry with crunchy noodles/chicken/mushrooms in a light sauce, and one with chili oil and lettuce leaves. I came here four times on our six-night stay in Vancouver, BC. Here are the lessons that I learned during my time at Original Joe's Restaurant and Bar. 1. Always order a double when getting a cocktail here as it is the difference for a 1.5oz pour or a 3oz pour and the upcharge is typically only two dollars not like in the states where a double is double the price. 2. The items that say GF on the menu does not make them GF as they do not have a dedicated fryer. This means if you are gluten sensitive or have Celiac disease the only two items you can get are butter chicken and the GF cheesecake. 3. This location is in the Rosedale on Robson suite hotel, you can enter from the street however if you are staying in the hotel it is connected, hence us going here four times. 4. Pretty good spot if you are watching a Football game or other sport and they have some great beer options with a choice of three different size beers you can order. During our visits I can highly recommend the cheesecake which comes with fruit compote on it. The Poutine, famous dish in Canada, consisting of French Fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds was nothing to write home about but it's all abot, said with a Canadian accent :-P, your personal preference imo as there was nothing wrong with it just not my cup of tea. My girlfriend got the butter chicken three times, and she was a fan. Just not many options if you must eat gluten free items. Convenient for us, beer was ample, and our eagles won. After an amazing BINI concert, we were on the hunt for a late-night dinner spot where we could relax and stay a bit longer. We decided to try Original Joe's. The A.C.E. Burger with coleslaw and French fries was tasty and generously portioned at $21--I couldn't even finish the sides! The Chipotle Chicken Quesadillas were decent, also priced at $21. The Amaretto, though not as good as I've had before, was finished off by my husband ($8.25). We also enjoyed Dad's Rootbeer ($4) and Patio Joe ($11.25), both were delicious. Original Joe's is a great place to hang out, whether you're with family, friends, or even colleagues. The food is good, and you can unwind and play some games. Just keep in mind that while the servers are friendly, the service can be a bit slow, especially considering the place wasn't too busy even at almost midnight. read more

Ambience is also exactly what you would expect from a Restaurant/Bar - lots of space for big groups and a social atmosphere. However the service ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS. I came here after work with some coworkers, and not only did it take forever to get service, when we did get it we experienced the following: - I ordered sharable nachos for the table as an appy - it didn't arrive until we all received our mains and had already started eating (so nobody touched the nachos) - Someone at our table ordered coke which never arrived... 3 times. He had to ask *3* times before the server got him his coke. We were already almost on our second drinks by the time he got it. - I asked for a wider straw since my drink was slushy and the straw was having trouble not getting clogged. I made it clear to the server what the problem was and he said he understood. I was then brought a longer straw of the same width... which didn't do anything for the problem. - Servers don't make extra costs known before charging you with it. I was packing up my food and wanted the sauce with it. The server brought me new sauces even for the ones that came in plastic containers already with my food that I could have just put in the box, then charged me for it. Without letting me know beforehand. - Same with bag charge. Wasn't made aware beforehand. - Getting the bill took forever. We were waiting so long for someone to come by that we were getting frustrated. - As a large group we expected the 18% autogratuity as is standard (which is already atrocious for the level of service we got), but lo and behold the bill came which said tip was not included - but the server said he would input it into the machine when we paid. From some quick math when I saw the total on the machine they put in AT LEAST 20%. Again without letting us know. That's shady af. - Additionally, I heard from another co-worker that service is always bad here. They said that they came during lunch break once and the food took an hour to arrive. Keep in mind we only have 1 hour for lunch breaks... I would NEVER come here of my own accord. That was the most horrendous serving experience I've ever had. Absolutely incompetent and shady as all hell. And the food is mediocre af as well. I suggest going literally anywhere else. read more

Exhausted from walking for hours in the city, I settled for this hotel tavern. All three stars go to the friendly waitress, who took the time to talk to me and recommend items for me. I just wish the quality of food matched her enthusiasm! I ordered the brussel sprouts, which tasted OK but way too salty. The virgin cocktail was nice but was finished in just a few sips. Wasn't the place for us - retired couple, looking for a quiet but nice restaurant to map out the next day's plans in a beautiful city. The noise and "music" levels increase as the hours go by, to a point where conversation can no longer take place unless one shouts. Great place for the younger customers - locals in their 20s and 30s, I'd say and waitstaff fits right in with that segment. May not be a good fit for guests of the hotel as the noise levels are too high later in the afternoon and evening. I liked my food, though, and take out is good as well. The ambience (when we were there (8-13-25) is that of a sports bar, so if that's your thing, you'll be right at home afternoons and evenings. Service is slow. read more

I've eaten at many other Original Joe's in the past, but never here in Vancouver. My friends were visiting Vancouver for the Drake concert and staying at the hotel attached to OJ's, so we decided to eat and drink here before the concert. I was pleasantly surprised. This location in particular reminded me of a more upscale sports bar. It was quite large and fairly clean. For a Sunday night downtown, I was surprised that we were able to get a table for 12 people right away. Our server came over right away, took our drink orders and dropped off waters. Since caesars were on special for $5 that day, I ordered a double caesar. She was very patient with us and made sure that all our drinks were refilled quickly. She also put the Raptors game on the TV in front of our table when I asked, so I really appreciated that. OJs has a pretty standard sports bar menu - burgers, sandwiches, tacos, poutine, sharing appetizers, etc. I've tried a few different burgers in the past. Please bring back the cajun chicken burger!! That was my favourite! This time around I got chicken tenders with fries and gravy. Compared to other chain restaurants, the portions at OJs are fairly large for what you get. With any of the handheld dishes, you get an option of two sides. Overall, it was a great spot to grab dinner and drink before the concert. We walked in Saturday, January 16th at 5:20pm. *Queso fundido ($12.50): creamy spiced cheese dip with crumbled chorizo sausage, caramelized onions, and peppers, garnished with cilantro, and served with crispy flour tortillas for dipping *Calamari ($11.50): lightly breaded with jalapenos, slivered onions and bell peppers, served with house made tzatziki *Original joe's blond lager ($6.50 for 18oz): clear, classic, balanced *Original joe's red ale ($6.50 for 18oz): smooth, malty flavour *Jack daniels and coke ($6.50ea x3) The cheese dip was good! Came out bubbling hot! To me, you can't go wrong with ooey gooey cheese and chorizo. Yum! They give you lime to squeeze on top. I tried a couple bites with lime and it really mellows out the flavor. I actually preferred the dip without the citrus. You get the full savoriness of the dip. The calamari was average. I didn't think it went well with the tzatziki, but to each his own. Both beers I ordered were okay. I'm not a big beer drinker, but I wanted something to sip on. The blond lager was way too light for me. The ale was a little better. The jack and cokes were very little in size, but according to the roommate, packed a small punch. He can't really drink, but had 3 of them. Service was a little too attentive. When we walked in, we told them we were here to watch the Warriors game. They even switched one of the TVs to the game since we had a better view of that screen from our table. But our waitress kept checking up on us, asking if we were done. We told her several times we were slowly eating and watching the game, but she kept checking. Did they need the table? From the looks of all the empty tables, they didn't, so I was confused. Ended up leaving before the game was over as the Warriors weren't doing well and I was feeling like they wanted us to leave. First night in Vancouver and we took a walk from our hotel to Robson Street to look for dinner. We stopped here because it was new to us and nothing was catching our eye. We were told we could seat ourselves. It wasn't crowded, so find a table for my party of 5 was easy. The dining area is large with barstools and tables. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. Most of group opted for the Tuesday night wing special, but I got chicken strips. The fries came with gravy or a dill dipping sauce. I asked for the waitress' recommendation since we weren't accustomed to either, and she offered to bring both dipping sauces out. We ended up liking the gravy. We all enjoyed our meals. Excellent service. I got the chicken strips and my wife got pulled pork. We also got a margarita and an ale, both of which were poured and delivered to our table extremely promptly. It seems they only had one waitress, which was... Interesting. She did a crazy good job getting everyone their food and it only took around 10-15m to cook up. The waitress should be getting a big raise for working alone like this. Seems they are understaffed. Dunno how bad the service would be if it wasnt the busy body that was staffed that night. Kodos. My family stopped in here later one night after we were rebuffed at the Back Forty restaurant nearby on Robson (see my review). I think sometimes that things happen for a reason. Had we stayed at Back Forty, we would not have discovered this Original Joe's. And we had a GREAT meal here and, we all agreed in retrospect, we were so glad that we had a poor experience at the earlier restaurant we went to, as it led us to this casual, fun - and GOOD - restaurant! As soon as we walked in here, we were greeted and seated (after asking where we wished to sit, too!). There were multiple levels, and we walked down a few different sets of stairs (similar to recessed living rooms back in the day). The interior was spacious and somewhat dim, with a lot of wood and tons of wall-mounted tv's. Looked like a cool bar area in the rear. There was a nice looking patio area outside, too. The whole place was reminiscent of an early 70's family restaurant/bar. It definitely had a retro vibe. And we liked that! Our server was a doll! (Wish I remembered her name). She spoke at length with my two daughters about getting jobs here in Vancouver (we just moved here and both kids want to work), and she gave them lots of suggestions and tips. We all really appreciated that! She also was a great server: attentive and knew the menu well. I noted that they have lots of daily specials here. I forget what type of salad I had but it was fresh and good. Hubby had a burger and loved it. The kids had some sort of sandwiches or wraps and they loved them. The food selection here isn't fancy or gourmet but it is good, and the prices are decent and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. This is a great place for comfort food in a cool, casual restaurant. A friend of mine came over for a visit and we tried to figure out what to eat for dinner. He didn't want to go anywhere and we couldn't really agree on anything. We finally landed on beef dip and then it was a case of finding a restaurant close by that had it on the menu. I think I've walked by Original Joe's but I've never been. Using SkipTheDishes I ordered 2 meals for delivery. The meals came with the choice of salad and gravy for the fries as well as the au jus for the sandwiches. Our meals arrived within half an hour. We were shocked at the size of the sandwiches. They were served on large toasted hoagies with loads of tender beef along with melted swiss cheese and fried onions, sitting on a bed of fries. We chose caesar salads over the other choice of mixed green salads and gravy for the fries. I complained a little bit, wanting more fries, but it was a full delicious meal that we both really appreciated since we were both hungry although I could only finish half mine. My friend declared that it was a choice much better than pizza which i agreed. Pricewise it's not a bargain dinner, coming in at $19.75, which for me is a lot more than I would pay for beef dip, so I'm not sure if it's something I'd order if were dining in. However, even so I still am curious about other items on the menu and I'm sure we will it try again. My one quibble is that I would have appreciated the use of compostable containers and not all the plastic. read more

We had the fish tacos to eat, probably the worst I have had anywhere. We came to Vancouver for the weekend and it was a total downpour. We had been walking around town in the rain and wanted to sit down somewhere that had a relaxing and casual atmosphere. This was perfect for just that. They even had hooks near our table so we can hang our rain jackets. Good thing because they were dripping wet! This is a very spacious sports bar with large tables to accommodate big groups. There are large screen TVs everywhere. There is no table that doesn't have a TV within view. There wasn't much of a crowd when we came by. We were immediately greeted by staff. Three different servers had come to our table on different occasions asking if we have been helped. Service was amazing! Before we could decide what we wanted, our server brought us two tall glasses of ice water to start. My BF had the Original Joe's Red Ale. It was meh. It wasn't very good. Coming from the Seattle area, we are spoiled with our microbrews. I had The Patio Joe, which is a blended drink that had Malibu rum, peach schnapps, pineapple, and peach juice. It was delicious!! My BF agreed when he had a taste of my drink. We ordered a couple of appetizers -- poutine and Greek ribs. C'mon now, who doesn't order poutine when you're in Canada? Their poutine was good once the cheese curds had melted. The gravy was more on the lighter side. The Greek ribs were dry ribs and had Greek spices on it hence the name. It came with a side of tzatziki sauce for dipping. I found the ribs to be delicious. The tzatziki sauce was a perfect compliment to the ribs. Staff cleared our plates as we were done. I can't emphasize enough on the excellent service. It took awhile to get our check. We didn't mind as we were in no hurry to get back into the torrential downpour. I enjoy the rain -- especially the puddles but it was nice to be able to stay warm and dry for awhile. read more

The BBQ back ribs were tough. We could not eat them because they were difficult to cut. Both the chicken taco and fish taco has no avocado - it was listed as one of the ingredients on the menu. When the server brought the cocktail to our table, one of her two fingers touched the cocktail as her finger touched the rim of the glass (the cocktail was filled up to the rim). She could have used her two fingers to hold the stem and the bottom of the glass instead. Proper serving skills are needed. read more

Lots to like in this spacious sports bar, and I'm not talking about the sports bar features (since I'm really not a sports fan, and all those TVs really don't impress me). In no particular order, here are some things that stood out for me: -It doesn't cost you extra to get a gluten-free bun. -They are big into giving back to the community, with two main programs: Community Pint, and MealShare. -Good spacing between tables. -Hockey night game! -- Even if you're not a hockey fan, your table could still win. They let you randomly draw a hockey puck, and if the player whose name is on your puck scores during the game on the TVs, you get something! (Uh, what exactly, I'm not sure -- #27 Hutton didn't score during the first period while we were there tonight). -Daily Features, such as $2-off burgers Tuesday nights. I went tonight specifically for their Mealshare item, which rotates from time to time, Until March 2nd, they are featuring two items from their "test kitchen" -- basically, things that they are trying out on you and considering adding to the menu. In fact, lots of items on their menu are marked "TK" for Test Kitchen. Pot of tea ($2.25) Higgins & Burke tea Quinoa Mushroom Burger ($15). Test Kitchen item. Quinoa mushroom patty with melted swiss; served on toasted brioche with mayo, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion. Comes with 2 sides. -A very simple burger. Maybe too simple for $15, but you do get to clearly taste the patty. (Does that mean the tomato was tasteless? Hmm...) -That $15 (only $13 on burger nights) comes with two sides that are worth maybe $2 each, so it's really around $11. Which is steep for a very basic lettuce-and-tomato burger of regulation size. Go during their $2-off burger nights. -Quinoa mushroom patty is apparently held together by swiss cheese inside the patty itself. Thankfully not crumbly at all. -I opted for the gluten-free bun and was not charged extra for it. The bun itself was OK. Just firmer and drier than most burger buns. Some odd white stuff on the top of the bun, though. I forgot to ask the server about it. Coleslaw -My other side that comes included in the price of my burger. -I found the veggies here cut a bit too long, with increases the risk of sauce flinging about or making a mess around your mouth. Keep a clean napkin handy! -More sour than creamy, which I rather liked since richly creamy coleslaw plus fries plus gravy could have made for a heavy-feeling meal. Homecut Fries - gravy or dill dip -One of the sides I chose. As fries go, these were sadly sub-par. -Not particularly crispy (or hot, for that matter). -Mostly short bits. Either they are using short potatoes or I got bottom-of-the-tray scraps. -Gravy seemed thin and not very flavourful (maybe because I couldn't get a good amount to stay on the fry). Go for the dill dip. Way better, plus the sharp flavour helps keep the appetite whetted. Prompt service, friendly servers. They didn't automatically bring water, though. read more

This place used to be where Rosie's was. The place is a lot cleaner and modern but then again, it is a pub so as modern as you can get. The server we had was great, very friendly, funny and quick. We had the window seat at the back. You can people watch which we did as something was happening as an ambulance, police and advanced life team was just outside across the street. Some friends had ordered the nachos and wings. The basket for the nachos was big so really good to share with a few people. I wasn't there for the wings as I came a bit late. We were watching the Whitecaps and Canucks game. I ordered the ribs with the honey slaw and sweet potato fries. I didn't really taste any honey in the slaw and it was a bit dry so maybe it was missing the sauce. The sweet potato fries was ok, it was soft and not crispy. The ribs was a little dry, there was some sauce on it from when it was cooked but no extra sauce. Normally you would lick your fingers after eating but I barely had any sauce on my fingers. I almost didn't need the wet nap but I used it anyway since I'll be holding my phone later and didn't want to leave any mark on it. It would be a good place for some drinks after the game as it is only a couple of blocks away from BC Place, and a few blocks from Rogers Arena. read more

Had dinner at Original Joes recently, only because it was attached to the hotel we were staying at in Vancouver and DH was too tired to drive anywhere else. He had a bad impression of Original Joes from the one on our hometown, but the menu looked good so we gave it a shot. Boy, we were not disappointed. I asked for a window seat, and we got the corner window, best seats for people watching! The servers were very friendly and attentive and there were lots of choices on the menu. The restaurant is clean and new. We shared a plate of baby back ribs, with sides of Cesar salad for me and DH had the West Coast Chop. Everything we shared, everything oh so good! We also had a plate of Naan bread and hummus. Everything tasted SO good. DH had a glass of red wine that he said was excellent - and the serving size was generous enough so that one glass was plenty. ok... so I decided to order it through Doordash. $40 total for a Mac & cheese, Cobb salad and delivery. Mac & Cheese was pretty small my not bad. I would be surprised if that was tasting bad. Now the moment of truth was that simple Cobb salad. Terrible. I love salad, I love Cobb salad, but that one was awful. The chicken tasted like not well prepared chicken, the sauce was weird state. Everything blended was not tasting good all. The avocado and bacon was what made me finish the dish. Plus, the size was pretty small for a $16 salad. What a waste of money. Big no no. read more

I would give it a meh. Food meh. Service slow. High prices probably because of location, but a burger not worth $16 or $18. I've had better burgers at white spot. The $4 Original Joe's beer tasted 'horrible' according to my husband. So we switched to Okanagan Springs and Parallel 49 beers, both always great choices. read more

Ordered 2 burgers from here and was excited about having a juicy burger. Both of us agreed the meat lacked flavour and was pretty bland. Their home fries were the highlight of the meal and they came with gravy which was great but for 36.00 for 2 burgers I at least expected some flavour. read more

Good place to eat before the Canucks game. Only a few blocks from the arena. Lucky we came at 5:00pm and easily found a seat. Had we come a half hour later, we would have been shut out. Ordered all the food off the happy hour menu. Fish tacos and sriracha drumsticks were very good. Chips also worth ordering. Slider was good, but way to small. Each of us got the beef dip which came with two sides. Again worth ordering. Lots of TV's which is nice to check out the early games. We'll be back as everything is in order at this place. read more
