This place has changed since I went in the 1980s, but it is still running and the staff is fantastic. I loved the smell of the restaurant and lobby when I was a little kid back in the day. That memory will always be part of this place for me. I recently returned and it was great. The breakfast buffet was fully stocked and if something was missing it was quickly replaced. The food was cold when it was brought to us and severely undercooked. My husband's catfish was raw and his baked potato was hard as a rock. I ordered the Pork Chops and they were also raw and cold when brought out. The establishment would not refund our money and made for a terrible dining experience. The place is hard to find, the restaurant is dated, and most of the staff had attitudes and didn't look happy to be there. NOT worth the time, and a waste of money. read more

First time I visited this restaurant it was for breakfast buffet during the Summer of 2005, it has been a long time (I visit the Desoto State Park several times a year for my social club, but really haven't stopped in for lunch) We were hungry venturing around Desoto Falls, the staff at the visitor center had told me about a delicious ruben and and a hearty burgers and sandwiches, so we decided to stop here for a "hearty meal". Well as usual I ordered a sweet tea and my friend orders unsweet tea, I've ordered Dixie Burger with french fries, my friend orders The Desoto Old Fashion Burger with fries. As I waited for our meal, I was telling the waitress about the "Lodge Falls" should be right outside the restaurant, but she says she only knows about the Indian Falls, so I've gone outside to check on the "Lodge Falls" it was only about 40 feet from the restaurant, but since it's still the dry season, there were only a small drips of water. The food comes, my burger was cut in half and stuffed in a long french roll (interesting idea, but by cutting it in half, it looses the juice from the burger, perhaps next time, reshaping the burger patty to fit the french roll), although it lacked the juice from the burger, the sauteed onion, green pepper and mushroom added the juice that needed, and the cheddar and bacon adds more flavor, I was quite surprised with the quality of food at the state park restaurant (Had a horrid experience at Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee, the worst buffet ever), the french fries were good not over cooked, my friend said his burger is quite good. We finished our lunch off with a pecan pie with a scoop of ice cream, warm melting pecan pie with chocolate sauce drizzled over and a side of vanilla ice cream, the pie was excellent. (I highly recommend it to everyone to get a slice of the pecan pie (but the chocolate sauce was not needed). Next time when we come for a hike at Desoto, we will be stopping by for the delicious burgers. read more

I would leave zero stars if it was possible. In my 64 years of living on the earth I have never been more disgusted with my food. Me and my husband decided to visit DeSoto state park for our 44th anniversary and we are completely miserable here. The staff is horrendous. We have never met such rude people. We decided to have dinner at the mountain in restaurant and after this we will never go back. I ordered the catfish and it was severely undercooked. I have never seen a restaurant that can not good catfish properly. I asked my waitress to return it and she gave me an attitude. I told the young lady to respect her elders and to learn how to manage working in a restaurant or go home. My husband order the gumbo soup. The waitress rudely told me they do not have gumbo. If you do not have something then take it off your menu instead of disappointing your customers. My husband then decided to order a ribeye. When he received the ribeye it was still mooing. I am very disappointed with this restaurant. Never going back I could barely digest my food. We left and spent the rest of the night on the toilet. You ruined my anniversary DeSoto state park and I deserve a refund. read more

Here right now for the Steak and Seafood buffet. When we walked in 90% of the buffet was empty. There were no plates. Asked for a manager and was told there was no restaurant manager. There was a lodge manager, but he was off property. Told the server and she said they were short handed. That's a restaurant issue, management issue and not my issue. Avoid this place at all costs. I wish we would've read these reviews before eating there. Service is very poor. Food quality is very poor. Food quantity is extremely poor. All canned food. Our party of 4 ate came here for a seafood buffet on Friday night. What was promoted as seafood were a few boiled shrimp, a pan of sautéed mystery fish chunks, fried chicken strips, clam strips that were 95% breading, some kind of awful fish "gumbo", stuffed "krab" and fried catfish. The only vegetable was canned green beans served lukewarm with no seasoning, and soggy French fries. There was also a small salad bar. Only the catfish was worth eating. This was frozen pre-breaded food fried to the point it could not be stabbed with a fork, or heated on a steam table. No cooking, seasoning, or skill involved. All for $19 per person. We should have walked out without paying, it was so nasty. If you value your time and money, don't waste either with this place! read more

Ate breakfast here after camping at Desoto State Park. My husband and I both ordered omelets with hash browns and biscuits. The omelets were mediocre, the hash browns needed salt, and the biscuits and jelly served with them were not very good. The portion sizes were decent for the price, but we should have just gone to the Cracker Barrel in Fort Payne. read more

Myself, my husband and our two children ate at The Mountain Inn restaurant on our recent trip to Mentone. We arrived around 5:00pm. There were two other occupied tables. The waitress was not interested in her job at all. It seemed as if she was annoyed because we ordered an appetizer sampler which was clearly frozen apps. I ordered the catfish which you could clearly tell had been halved(they were actually pretty good) as was the baked potatoes but the "steamed vegetables " were clearly frozen vegetables with cheese sauce.My husband ordered the seafood platter( they didn't even fill up the plate). My son ordered the Rainbow Trout which he enjoyed and my daughter ordered the Potato Soup bowl which looked good but the food was way overpriced for the quality and it felt as if they didn't really want customers. One waitress began moving out the mayonnaise ketchup and mustard before 7:00 and began putting out the cream and sugar for the next morning. This was a pretty little restaurant but it needs some work. read more
