if you live in Irvine, you know this place already, I love their latte in the mug. Also their matcha is also amazing! one thing that is not so perfect about this place is always busy, barely find table if you go there late. lol. there are outside tables too but outside tables are taken all most all the time. parking is decent,
Been wanting to try out Mugs. Came here right before Zion market. The lots of pastry options available. We tried the Koyoto cold Brew and the Spanish latte. I really liked the taste and smoothness of the Koyoto! The Spanish was sweet and flavorful. Service was good, the cashier was super nice. The have table and chair to work or lounge with you drink. Seems very study friendly
I loved the mugs in diamond bar so I wasnt surprised to see this one in the same concept -- lots of seating but PACKED on a weekday afternoon, lots of coffee and matcha options but it just seems impersonal, since there's so many people coming through. Not much service here, the barista didn't say welcome or hello, didn't really talk at all. I ordered tea and it came out fairly quickly. 2 points off for lack of seating area (despite lots of chairs and tables) and lack of service. Otherwise it's a casual study cafe located in prime spot of Irvine.
The banana foam top tastes amazingly light and fluffy by itself but becomes more subtle once mixed with the matcha. However, I still thought it tasted great, and the matcha is pretty high quality. For the plain croffle, I do wish that they added a bit of glaze to give the croffle a little bit more of an initial crunch, but it was still pretty good and chewy. The inside is spacious (I saw a lot of people working off laptops), and there's some patio seating outside.
Lots of seating both indoor and outdoor - there is also a separate quiet room. Drinks and pastries had good flavor for average price and fast service. I really liked the chocolate cream cheese muffin and my partner enjoyed the horchata latte.
I got a chance to visit the Mugs and had a good experience. They offer a wide selection of drinks and pastries with a lot of comfortable seating. Food: They offer a good selection of crossaints, scones, macaroons, and other pastries. I got a chance to try the iced latte and it was very flavorful. Service: The employees are very friendly and helpful. Ambiance: The Ambiance is very nice. Theere is a lot of comfortable seating. There is also a study room.
Mugs is a new coffee shop in the Northwood Center near the Korean market. The layout has a lot to offer, two separate rooms to sit, drink coffee, and work on your computer. Therefore, a better name might be "chairs, " and not mugs. There are three separate rooms to find a seat, not including the outside patio. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It was a very hot day, so they gave us ice water right away. The coffee was great, for they have some special choices that tend to the sweet tooth in me. They also have the traditional unsweetened choices and lattes. Those are more what I like. Their pastries are wonderful. So many places are so crowded it is so hard to find a seat, not here. There is lot's of room. A couple suggestions to add to this wonderful place: add a few live plants, some soft music, artwork on the walls. I hate to say it, but the glasswork needs to be wiped down. Do these things, I'll change my grade to five stars. I do recommend Mugs as a great place to relax and have some coffee.
Outlets - yes! Bad wifi. Mid matcha. I love the vibe of this cafe - a fun place to come with friends or to get work done. Service is fast and friendly. They are also pretty busy and popular, so it's hard to get a seat (I've come a couple times and its packed). I will have to say the double matcha was not worth. Something (I'm assuming the milk) tasted funny/irregular - not sure why. I would come back to try the Mitsugaru though!
So my coworker and I have a standing appointment weekly to go get coffee on Wednesdays and try out new places around town. Unfortunately this week I have to go alone, but got to go try out The Mugs! Honestly it's overall ok. The places vibe is set up mainly as either a quick 2 person coffee and chat or as a study coffee shop. But really just seems like a study or work coffee shop. The staff were pretty friendly and kind of helpful, lol IDK. So there's this trend where a lot of coffee shops for some reason don't like to tell you what's in their coffees? And that's fine since most places don't and most items on the menu are standard fare, but The Mugs had a drink I've never heard of called the Dalgona Latte (I'm not on TikTok so I missed it becoming viral in 2020 per my google of it later). Overcoming my personal issues of asking questions to a cashier I asked what this taste sensation was and was told that it's an iced coffee with sweet cream and candy. A little more detail somewhere would have been great or a better explanation! But quick service . As mentioned, I got the Dalgona Latte and was taken aback by it lol. The coffee sweet cream were good! It was a VERY rich coffee, I think? That's the best term that comes to mind when trying to describe it. It came topped with a darkly toasted honeycomb toffee-like candy which was neat. Overall I'd say if your in this neck of the woods to give it a shot. Thanks!
The Mugs is a nice cafe in Irvine if you're looking for quick service and a place to sit and chat! I came here with a friend and we got our drinks in what seemed like just a minute after ordering. We ordered matcha lattes with regular milk. The sweetness was at a good level (not too much, but not too little), but the matcha taste was a little mild. There's a lot of seating indoors and outdoors. A lot of people come here to work/study inside. We sat outside, and it was great that the tables are in the shade with umbrellas to cover too. Really nice to people watch outside as well :) I do want to come back sometime and try some of the pastries they have in their case, they look tasty.
I showed up right when The Mugs opened and there was already a small line of people waiting for their coffee, always a good sign. Seating & outlets: Very laptop friendly, lots of seating w/ outlets. I scoped out the options and was immediately drawn to the room with tables. There's a mix of chairs (some hard, some cushier leather ones), and every table has charging outlets, major plus. WiFi isn't the fastest, but good enough for light work or casual studying. Food & coffee: Started off with their Supremo drip coffee: smooth, strong, and just what I needed. Then I tried Mirado GR4 next: a bit more bitter, and my pleb palate couldn't quite pick up the fig, nougat, and brown sugar notes it claimed. Still, points for the zing I needed to get through my work. Said I wouldn't but caved and tried a croffle. I got the ham & cheese. VERY buttery. Tasty but def not worth the calories :/ The Mugs right next to Zion Market (the kimbap inside is great!) and you're surrounded by tons of restaurant options. They don't allow outside food inside, but the Mugs has a nice outdoor patio you can eat at if you buy food from elsewhere in the plaza. Parking: Easy and free in shopping center Service: Smooth & friendly. They carefully make most the drinks to order, so expect a little wait when it gets busy and they get busy quick. They've got both a self order kiosk and a human at the counter. What I didn't like: There's only one bathroom, it's clean-ish but the air freshener is way too strong and the ventilation can't keep up. The result? A bit of an olfactory battlefield, if you know what I mean. And the music....omg yikes. This was the real crime. Every song was worse than the last. Do yourself a favor and bring headphones. Great study spot. Definitely coming back but only with headphones.
Picked up a Horchata Latte here on a weekend before a long drive! Personally this drink was way too sweet for me, but the flavor itself was not bad - I could definitely taste the coffee. Service was quite slow - I waited around 30 minutes for this one drink. However, the workers were really friendly, and this situation was understandable since the store was extremely busy. If you want to visit this location, I would avoid going on weekend mornings, especially on Sundays when a lot of people are leaving the church.
I'm a regular at Mugs and have always treated it as a reliable neighborhood spot to sit down with a proper latte. At $6.25 for a 16 oz, the baseline expectation is consistency--temperature, balance, and execution. Today's drink was, frankly, the worst I've had here--and it didn't even qualify as a latte. A proper latte should be built with espresso first, followed by well-textured milk at the correct temperature, integrated through a controlled pour. What I received instead tasted like espresso and milk were haphazardly combined, with no structure or technique behind it. The milk itself was improperly steamed--off-temperature and leaving a sour, flat, unpleasant finish. Even after a remake, the result was just as disappointing--tepid, flavorless, and simply wrong. No body, no balance, no indication that standard preparation methods were followed. This points to a broader issue. It's not the first time I've seen staff being trained on the job and inconsistent drinks being served as-is. At this price point, that's not acceptable. Customers come here expecting a dependable experience--whether it's early morning or late afternoon--and that consistency is part of what keeps people coming back. Right now, that trust is eroding. More attention to staff training, quality control, and basic execution is needed.

I've been a frequent customer and always order plain croffle for my kids. Recently, my husband picked up 4 plain croffles and waited about half hour to forty mins because they had to redo the croffle as it was completely burnt. Today, I just ordered two croffles for my son's breakfast through door dash. I did NOT choose the option for whipped cream but it came with melted whipped cream and made the croffle soggy. On top of that, the two croffles were completely burnt, black! read more
I ordered the honey lavender latte with 50% sweetness. The staff were accomodating with the sweetness request. The drink itself was very milky, the coffee did not taste roasted at all (tasted like very weak instant coffee) with barely a hint of floral lavender. The cafe is a bit small so indoor tables were very limited. I sat outdoors, but was unable to connect to the wifi on my phone or laptop throughout my time there (showed an error message through their internet provider's website), which was disappointing as I was working there for about 2 hours with a friend on my phone's hotspot. The outdoor tables were sticky, wet and none were cleaned from the time I was there until I left. The table and chairs are also wobbly and there is no outdoor lighting - the cafe is in the shade and around 4pm it already was getting dark. The only restroom was also very dirty and extremely wet on the floor and sink. The restroom cleaning log was empty for the entire day and I was there in the evening around 5pm. Would not recommend. There are so many other great coffee spots in Irvine worth your time and money. read more

After seeing this place pop up on yelp, we decided to stop by for some quick coffee fix. It was quite busy for a Sunday afternoon with barely any seating left. I ordered the peppermint mocha latte from their seasonal menu item with less sweetness. It was still quite sweet but i just waited for the ice to melt to water it down a bit. It had a nice dark chocolate taste to it with only a hint of peppermint. It wasnt too bad but wished it was a bit more peppermint-y. Next time, I'll have to try other items on their menu. Definitely love their seasonal menu options. And the workers worked pretty fast to get the orders out. read more

Stopped by this place as we were waiting for our table at Hako to be ready for us. It's next to Zion Market and it was pretty busy with students studying when we came. You can either order at the front cashier or there's a kiosk on the side. I ordered the blueberry matcha and my bf ordered the strawberries and cream latte (his first choice was to try the dalgona latte but they ran out). Both were so overly sweet, it tasted like a milkshake for both. My blueberry matcha barely had any matcha, it was more like blueberry milk with a squeeze of matcha SYRUP. Idk how they make their matcha but I saw her squeeze it out of a condiment bottle and I knew right away that I would not enjoy it. Sadly don't think we'll be back as there's a plethora of better quality matcha and coffee places in Orange County. However, if you like really sweet drinks and milk lattes, this place would not be bad for it. read more
Cute coffee spot that has friendly staff. They are often super busy so be prepared to wait for your order. Their Matcha Latte is quite delicious, has indoor/outdoor space to sit and study and some munchies too. I saw people ordering the croissants and sandwiches, so looking forward to trying it next time! Good: Nice spot. Easy to find parking. Lots of space to sit and do work. Free WiFi. Lots of outlets. Bad: Coffee was below par. I love caffeine and ended up getting two for the time I spent there doing work. I enjoyed the space and felt safe as a single female. There was 1 other girl by herself too. We're just on our laptops doing independent girly tings ya know. 1 Spanish latte hot - which they made cold but I didn't bother mentioning it since I already sipped it before catching myself. Meh really not that great and I forgot a photo. Anyhow I wanted to give this place another chance. 1 Cappuccino hot - the latte art was too hilarious I was compelled to write this. It was just a blob. Maybe the barista was new. Anyhow $7 and the cup is small af. Look at my photos for references. 2/5 stars - might come back for ambiance. Veggie Pesto Croffle -- GIVE THE CHEF A RAISE! First time trying it and wow! The Chicken, Veggie & Pizza Croffles are the best. The Mugs is quickly becoming one of my favorite coffee spots--the Kyoto cold brew hits perfectly, and the Tiramisu Latte is a must. Even when it's busy, the staff (shoutout to Shaun/Shawn & Jacob) always deliver respectful, friendly service. I've come mornings, noon, and evenings--every visit is a great experience. Such a good study spot in Irvine! This is 1/2 locations I've been to and personally this one is my favorite. I like the concept of having a "study room" inside the coffee shop. There are plenty of seats but this place does get packed super fast. If you don't mind waiting for a table or sitting outside to wait. Coffee prices are the avg now, starting at $6.50 unfortunately. - Vibes: 5/5 (Lofi, everyone studying) - Crowd: VERY crowded always rip - Menu: tons of choices! - Value for price: 4/5 (drinks are 5.50-7.50) - Service: 4/5 (can be slow when busy) - Parking: shopping center I feel like this is a classic university study spot bc no matter what time I've come it's ALWAYS packed. They always play chill music to match the studying vibes, and there's a good amount of seating so sometimes if you're patient you can wait for a seat to pop up. There are about 5-6 outlets and 10+ tables. The menu is quite diverse, definitely on the pricey side for the side. It's one of those places that will put less drink if you ask for less ice. I've tried a couple of drinks here and they've been good but not phenomenal. The horchata latte just tasted like cinnamon (wasn't getting much rice flavor sadly). Their croffles are TO DIE FOR however! I've tried the matcha and black sesame, both spectacular. If you're willing to take the risk of not getting a seat, this is a reliable place with fun drink options. read more

Went here on a Sunday morning, and it was pretty busy! Lots of people studying / working in the shop. Service was fast. You order on a kiosk and they serve your drinks on the counter. Workers were nice. I got the matcha latte and unfortunately was disappointed :/ The matcha quality was not very good.. it tasted off & was grainy. The drink was also way too sweet that I actually didn't finish my drink. I would recommend to ask for it less sweet. I tried my sister's coffee, which was way better. I would probably stick to ordering their coffee instead! read more

So our initial draw to this coffee shop was their seemingly unique specialty latte flavors. Banana caramel? Strawberries 'n creme? That sounds delicious! Sign me up. But the twinkle in our eyes slowly faded as we took our first sips. Frankly, you can kind of tell from the photos... they use those syrups like the ones used to top off sundaes. Both latte flavors just tasted like these artificial syrups. The Mugs also specializes in croffle sandwiches, which were pretty good. We got the ham & cheese and the sriracha chicken. I was going to give this spot 2 stars, but they certainly earned another with their service. After telling the staff that our lattes were rather weak, they gave us a free shot into each! We were totally fine with paying for the added shots, but they insisted that the shots were on the house. read more

With such an abundance of cafe options in OC, I found The Mugs to be...just okay. Good, not great. Not bad necessarily? But just not the kind of place I'd be eager to come back to again. We came by on a Saturday morning before heading out on a walk and wanted a lil bit of caffeine and a pastry to fuel us. I tried the orange matcha tonic and was not a fan despite my love of all things orange I just couldn't get into the tonic flavor and found it really overpowered the match and orange flavor. I also got an earl grey scone and it came in this bulky unnecessary plastic packaging. The scone itself was good enough, but again, nothing I'd be excited to come back for. We also waited quite a bit despite there not being many other parties. Overall, three stars because the strawberry milk my husband ordered was yummy and helped me get the matcha tonic flavor out of my mouth. read more

Wanted to try a new coffee shop and my boyfriend and I will def be back. I tried the strawberries and crème latte and him the banana caramel and we loved them. The strawberries and cream latte had a unique taste I've never had before but it fit perfectly. It had a great balance of sweet and espresso, with a very yummy taste of strawberries. I wish the crème part was more included and it had soft top crème but the latte was exceptional. My bf got the banana caramel latte and also thought the mix of banana, caramel and espresso was perfect. Neither too sweet and the flavor was spot on. Cafe was packed and no ac during the heat wave so we left immediately after the drinks were ready, but would def go back for takeaway! Definitely high quality espresso and you could see them effortfully measure out the drinks. read more

The sriracha chicken croffle is good, but the amount of chicken is a hit or miss. I got a Horchata Latte and the flavor was good but for the price and the already small cup, it should be filled more than 60%?? I asked where the rest was and they offered to add milk but then the sweetness and coffee flavor would be drowned out, so I declined the offer. The tiramisu latte is good, and so is the Spanish latte but they put quite a lot of cinnamon for that one. They offer a quiet room but it's usually taken. I think it's fair to measure the quality of a cafe by their coffee, and if they struggle to make a full cup of coffee then that speaks for itself. read more

It is a place for reading and studying as they have outlet for every table. Americano is okay. But the bread is Costco. Why do you pay over $5 cheese Danish when you can get that at 50 cents. They really have to improve the quality of bakery or nobody eats that here. read more
My partner and I visited The Mugs on a Saturday around 5 PM. By then, most tables were already occupied, and we were lucky to grab one just as another couple was leaving. If you're looking for a cafe to get some work done, this might not be the best spot; table availability seems like a hit or miss. That said, the staff was kind and happy to answer our questions. Matcha Latte: 2.5/5 I'm far from a matcha snob, but even I could tell the quality was lacking. Given how matcha has taken over SoCal recently, there's an expectation for cafes to use a higher grade, and The Mugs falls short. The matcha didn't feel whisked since it was chalky with clumps settling at the bottom. I forced myself to finish it just to avoid wasting it. Earl Grey Latte: 3/5 My partner ordered this so my judgement is based on a few sips. It was as standard as it gets, nothing remarkable but perfectly fine for tea normies like me. Ham and Cheese Croffle: 3.5/5 It's exactly what you'd expect: a ham and cheese croissant pressed like a panini. Nothing special, but it's a solid, reliable option if you're looking for a quick bite. Overall: Mediocre at best. The Mugs isn't bad, nor is it great. It's a standard cafe with decent service but underwhelming drinks. Good at best, but not a place I'd go out of my way for. read more

Definitely a nice study spot! There are a ton of chairs and tables both inside and outside as well as free wifi. There is plenty of parking in the plaza and the service is solid here. For the drinks, the favorite I've tried so far is the Blueberry milk, which I thought was pretty good but wasn't the biggest fan of the dalgona latte. read more

Newly opened coffee shop in the Irvine area. This place had no open seating available as all the students were on their laptops studying so word must have gone around quick here. They do have some nice speciality drinks here and some baked goods like muffins and cookies. I had to try their hot cappuccino and they tiramisu latte since they somehow stood out to me. Along with that a chocolate chip walnut cookie. There is a little seating area outside so I sat out there and enjoyed the drinks. The tiramisu latte was good but slightly watery for my palate as I like them bold and dense and same with the hot cappuccino. The flavor of the espresso was good but I wanted a little more density with it but I believe I'll be back here as they have lots of good items that still get need to be tried. read more

One of my favorite cafes in Irvine! This is a great place to come in study as they have many seats and outlets, but it does get really crowded during exam season. Their croffles are one of my favorite items on the menu. They honestly set the standard for what I expect a croffle to taste like. They top all their croffles with a delicious cream, I would describe it as a light cream cheese flavor with the perfect amount of sweetness. My favorite one is the matcha and black sesame croffle. Today I also got the rose matcha which was so good! It taste like cereal milk with rose matcha and it's just so so yummy. If you're in the Northpark area please come check this place out, you won't regret it :)! read more

Came here to study on a Thursday morning and it is so crowded! I came around 9:30 and people were literally fighting for a table LOL. The drinks are pretty expensive, more expensive than alot of other places. Coffee is standard so not amazing but not bad. My friend got an earl grey scone which she thought was pretty good. They have a couple outlets, wifi is good, and parking is easy. read more

Open early enough on Saturday, somewhere to study and work before the gym opens. Sunlight morning cafe mood is vibin', makes me feel like a heroine in an indie movie. I feel like this cafe will be super cozy on rainy days too. The barista was nice and cheery regardless of the early morning on Saturday (who chooses to be up this early if not an unstable PhD student with no regular sleep patterns and lost circadian rhythm??) Very nice interaction. I ordered the house cold brew. Tastes a bit burnt, not the best cold brew Ive had. They have another type of cold brew, the Kyoto cold brew, so maybe I'll try that next time. Lots of outlets (although some don't really work lol) lots of space and free WiFi. If you feel like getting away from uci but not too far to study, perfect spot. I thought this place was expensive, but prices are expensive everywhere and this place is actually really effing good. The pourover is good, high praises from my husband for which everything is generally "okay" or "terrible." Loveeeee my tiramisu latte. It is my GOAT latte, though I am tempted to try their summer special (misu garu) because all their drinks are delicious. Every time I go to another coffee shop, I am disappointed. Other places are never as good. They also have a clover order ahead page, which makes it very convenient. They hold the ice and foam until you arrive for pickup - so thoughtful. It's the small things that matter. If cafes could get Michelin stars, this place would have one. read more
