I want to love this place more than I do. It's downtown Edmond location makes it a nice place to pop in so we have done so twice now. If you've never been its kind of like a grown up grilled cheese joint that's adultified grilled sandwiches. I believe they have a full bar and serve a variety of beers and wines as well. (On my first visit I had a phenomenal old fashioned). We'll start with the fantastic. Deep Fried Cheese Curds... get.. them!!! I would come here for them alone truth be told, so addictive. They come with ranch dip and marinara dip (skip the marinara and just ask for double ranch as their ranch is sooooo good). Sweet potato fries were fantastic as well and if looks are anything I'm trying the onion rings next visit. I had a side spinach salad that was really good. Everything else for me was just so so. My husband has visited more than I have and typically gets the FYDA which he enjoyed. I sampled it and found it to be just ok. I ordered the Croque Madam as it was not on the menu last time and is one of my favorite sandwiches. I guess maybe I had a high expectation because it's a place that specializes in, sandwihces. But the dijion was a little heavy and the bread was just your standard grocery store loaf slice of bread and not a nice crusty, real sourdough feeling loaf with an open crumb and a nice chew. So, that was disappointing. Lastly, every time either of us has been in, it's just felt drafty, no more so than last night when we were dreaded to an ice old breeze every time the door was open. Like I said, I really want to love this place, I mean who doesn't love a nice grilled sammie? The vegetarian sandwich I ordered on our last trip in was so gargantuan that (no joke) I had to split it with my hubby. Yup -- huge slab (literally, SLAB) of deliciously creamy avocado with plenty of fresh mung bean sprouts, beautiful tomatoes, sliced onions, and a really flavorful aioli. (Pretty sure the bread used was a good ciabatta.) Hubby had the ten dollar spinach salad -- really pleasant. (Perfect for a light evening meal!) Per The Mule's online menu: "Fresh spinach and Bibb lettuce, blue cheese crumbles, apples, spiced walnuts, dried cranberries, (and) balsamic vinaigrette" (YUMMMMM! Something is amiss at this location. I have always been very satisfied with the food. But The past 2 times we have eaten there has been a disappointment. about 12 days ago we had dinner there. My tator tots were crispy hard . Today ordered lunch special . Reuben and tots. Okay, I went into this place after reading all the great reviews. Maybe I set high expectations based on that so I'm going to ground this place in some reality for others. Specifically others that will not be partaking in drinking the alcoholic mule beverages, and are only coming to eat. Portion sizes are huge and most everything is cheesy and fried. Good for younger folks. My particular visit was a 3 for me this time, but I believe they have the potential to achieve a 4 if you order correctly. Let's premise it with this; nothing I had here was the best I've ever had. We came in around 3pm during an apparent shift change, so tons of employees are standing around not interested in assisting us. I've seen this happen at other establishments too, nothing new, just doesn't help this score today. They were still slightly busy from lunch rush. It was hot outside but borderline cold inside so the AC works good lol. Food quality was good but could be better. Fried okra was burnt, sweet potato fries burnt, Philly cheese steak didn't have green bell peppers only onions. Bread on sandwiches was great. Portion sizes for the price are huge. We ordered too much food and could've saved money resulting in a better score. Fried green tomatoes are cut really thick, thick breading was crunchy, a little too salty for my taste. Poutine was good, but the cheese curds didn't melt all the way through so you get an occasional whole chunk of colder cheese while eating the fries. The regular beer battered fries came out the best for us. Didn't try any onion rings or alcoholic beverages. Part of the low score is my own fault for ordering too much food and spending too much money. Not knowing the portion sizes. Part is for the burnt, salty food and mediocre experience. I think if I went back with the knowledge I'm giving you now I could rate them a 4. My wife ordered the club and beer battered fries and enjoyed her food more than us giving it a 4. My 18 year old gives it a 3.25 he had the BA grilled cheese and sweet potato fries. I give it a 3 with the potential for a 4 had we done better - I had the Philly with okra. Tomato soup was good. So, my husband and I visited The Mule specifically for this sandwich which we saw on their Instagram. An extraordinary idea- putting delicious spaghetti between two buttery, toasty pieces of sourdough bread. So, we tried it and were NOT disappointed. We've actually never been disappointed by any of their food. Another of our favorites is the Okie Poutine. ANYWAYS back to this sandwich - spaghetti noods, 2 kinds of pesto (sun-dried tomato and regular basil), Muenster and Swiss cheeses, and Italian sausage all layered between two slices of sourdough. I finally got the opportunity to try The Mule in Edmond. Myself and some family went for a late lunch. I love this location nestled in Downtown Edmond! We were greeted and seated immediately, every staff member we encountered was kind and helpful! We ordered the BBQ Chicken Mac'cachos, the Macaroni Pony Sandwich with Onion Rings, and a BLT with Tomato soup. We also shared the exquisite Cheese Curds for a table appetizer to get us started! We all enjoyed each of our meals, I personally had the Macaroni Pony Sandwich which comes on Jalapeño Cornbread with Chipotle BBQ Pulled Pork and 3 Cheese Mac and Cheese and pickles inside. This is a Very filling sandwich especially when paired with Onion Rings! I truly enjoyed my sandwich, would have loved to have tasted a little more of the Jalapeño Cornbread, but that's just personal preference. The side of Onion Rings were selected at the recommendation of our server and they did not disappoint! One of my favorite places downtown! Now I really have only tried the Mules, French Dip & Tots but all were good haha. Service is always good & friendly. It's a cute & cozy place but don't look up - dust all over the sound-absorbing things hanging. I know that may sound petty but it's restaurant - that's like having balls of dust on your fans. Gross. Stopped in hoping to enjoy a light dinner. Nailed it, they had a soup and salad combo! They had two soups to choose from and a variety of salads. My daughter and I both chose the tomato soup, she selected a Caesar salad, I selected the spinach salad. All was delicious! The Caesar salad was topped with croutons that looked like tiny grilled cheese sandwiches. My spinach salad was great with dried cranberries, blue cheese crumbles and sugared pecans! The beer battered fries tasted of cinnamon (or something), which did not pair well at all with the rest of the ingredients in the poutine or my sandwich (the Philly, which had a pitiful amount of beef). The beet salad my buddy got had what tasted like butterscotch crumbles on it for some reason. Just weird stuff in the food. When I travel and order from unfamiliar places, I always try to get something that can't be messed up. We ordered the classic grilled cheese with tomato soup and it was really good. The soup had a little zip to it. We also ordered the kids meal of macaroni and cheese with fruit on the side. The fruit was delicious. Our huge disappointment was the Mac and cheese. It didn't taste good at all. Something was definitely off and it wasn't eaten. Since it was a door dash order we couldn't bring it to anyone's attention.
