(June 2026) On our way home from Ocean City, my wife and I hit traffic that started south from Queenstown. We remembered watching YouTube videos of the best crab cakes in MD and The Narrows Restaurant was mentioned, so we decided to stop in for a very late lunch / very early dinner. Although we didn't have reservations, they sat us at one of the only tables for 2. It was located right on the water. Obviously, we both ordered the crab cake entree (from the lunch menu) which came with 1 side. I got the mashed potatoes and my wife got the coleslaw. Side note - crab cakes here are 5 ounces. For dessert, we ordered the hot fudge sundae that included Captain Crunch cereal pieces. "Linner" was good overall. For us, sitting out in the sun was definitely not ideal, but again we didn't have reservations and there are no tables for 2 inside the restaurant. Getting in and out of the parking area was really challenging as traffic was heavy. read more

So our last time at the Narrows was excellent, time before so, so. Sunday night was again so, so. Clams casino were fantastic. Spouses 5 oz filet amazing. My pork ribeye special, should have stayed in the kitchen. I hate returning food in a restaurant, especially after cutting off the meat ftom the bone, into smaller pieces. Not sure what the meat was. Plus so salty, took a bite, drank lots of water. The substitution of potato pancakes were very good. The service was good. Had leftover meat on plate and server didn't ask if I was done, or wanted to take it home, she took plate away. The restaurant is nicely laid out, outside , inside and bar seating. Headed back to The Narrows recently for lunch. The view is still really beautiful and the staff was super friendly. It was a pretty nice day so we opted to sit on the deck which was also heated. We ordered the clams casino and fried green tomatoes to start. I only tried the clams casino was appreciated the flavor, size of the clams, and the use of gluten free panko. They were good! I also got a cup of Maryland crab soup which was really delicious and well flavored with the perfect amount of Old Bay seasoning. For my entree, I got a house salad with blue cheese gorgonzola dressing and grilled chicken. This was probably the most disappointing part of the meal - the chicken tasted like it had been steamed and totally unseasoned. It desperately needed salt, pepper, garlic powder, anything! It was super bland. The dressing wasn't very flavorful either and definitely didn't have the funky blue cheese taste I was hoping for. I usually love a salad but this one was really lacking flavor. read more

We have eaten here many times over the years on our way to Ocean City. We enjoyed eating here again last week. We completely enjoyed the excellent Cream of Crab and Maryland Crab soups. The best! The crab cakes were also delicious. Very little filler and fresh and good size. The Restuarant itself is beautiful by the water and our server was so good. Attentive, friendly, and timed the food perfectly. We are definitely going to make the trip to eat here soon again. It never disappoints! It is nice to go to a restaurant that still cares about the whole experience for dining out! Thank you! read more

We were traveling and made dinner plans based on stated menu options and dining times, which stated a 9 PM closure. We were careful to arrive by 8:30 and entered. The hostess was at the hostess station and told us that they had been slow and so they were closing early. She said she was pretty sure the kitchen was closed. We were quite frustrated, needless to say, and verbalized that as we turned around to head out. About that time, another a manager type person came out, saw that we were quite frustrated, and said that they were having the hoods cleaned and so they were closing early. I really doubt that since there was no such sign and the hostess clearly said they shut the kitchen down for being slow. If there had work being done in the kitchen, then the door should've been locked and there should've been a polite and professional sign on the door. That did not happen. Further, they should've updated their social media and advised their customers so that people would not be counting on something that is unavailable. Contrary to what the manager said, there was no apparent sign. Perhaps there was one that was 3 inches tall that was not evident, but there was none on the door that anybody entering would see. Further, my husband did say that we would be writing up this review, as we have, but he absolutely never used expletives. I was standing there the entire time, and unfortunately, the manager is just trying to deflect attention from her own poor handling on to her customers. We definitely will not be coming back ever again just strictly based on such poor management decisions and inattentive customer service. read more

It is so sad when an old favorite falters. We've put the Narrows in "time out." It used to be our favorite place in Kent Narrows to dine. We ate there twice a week. For years. We loved that they had so many specials. And many of the menu items (like the oyster trio, the tuna and the trout) were to die for. I am not sure if there is a new chef, manager or what's happened but we had three bad meals. There were multiple problems. (1) Over salting. The food was terrible over salted, making it both inedible from a flavor profile and outside my allowed diet. We've never before had to ask to take it easy on the salt, but asking made no difference anyway. If the chef is covering old fish with salt, or is unable or unwilling to cool it on the salt because that's his preferred flavor, then this is out of rotation. Yuk. (2) Split fees. They have now instituted a split fee which is equal to the cost of a cocktail or two soft drinks. Really? We always order multiple courses but often like to split the entry. We've been dining here about twice a week. For years. I get it that business is rough because more places are open in the summer. But that means the regulars have more choices too. We don't expect a treat for our regular patronage .... but do not gouge us. It is unkind and shows a lack of flexibility and good service on the part of the chef. We loved that the Narrows was a place that had amazing service. Taking that "we want it to work for you" service attitude away is bad business. Especially when the food quality is down. (3) Cold treatment. The dining room is consistently over air conditioned and cold. Unpleasantly so. I don't want to have to dress like it's the South Pole to dine in the summer. One day I forgot a sweater. My fault... but I was actively shivering by the time we got to our third course. The obnoxious waitress would not let us either open a window, ask to turn the air down or allow us to move to the patio (even though there were open patio tables). Cold treatment. We had a top flight dinner on a brisk Fall Sunday. Everything was delicious; especially the crusted salmon and the crab cake. Service was competent and attentive without being overbearing. This restaurant had the best views I have experienced in a while. The enclosed deck was comfortable and afforded the best dining experience. Service was prompt and attentive with good meal selection recommendations. We started with bread, which was very tasty and fresh. We also tried soup, French onion and cream of crab, both were very good. We shared the fried green tomatoes which was just ok. Our meals were appetizers since it was lunchtime, so I had calamari which was tasty but more on the chewy side. My daughter had the crab tart which we both really enjoyed. Of all the restaurants we tried in the immediate area, this one is clearly the best. But it's also the most spendy, higher-end, and probably doesn't sell crab. They do have grilled trout, which is what I ordered, and it is excellent. Wifey had a crab cake, and it was absolutely the best on the Island that I've seen (had the crab cake the spot next door, and theirs was...not good). Service was excellent, all the food was good, would definitely go back if/when I'm on the Island again. read more

We had lunch in the porch, exceptional water view with AC. The service is fast and the food excellent. We had few oysters and crab gazpacho to start, then fish &chips, mussels & fries, shrimp taco & fried green tomatoes. Everything was very fresh and very tasty with a special recommendation for the crab gazpacho ( so refreshing and tasty) and the fried green tomatoes ( you feel the green through the crunchy... delicious). Another lovely lunch here on the waterside "back porch." It's only gotten better since my last review 2 years ago. While the menu is expansive, for a lunch, there was a whole page of seasonal additions. Though on the regular menu, we loved the Crab and Cheese "tart" more a flat bread. Salads here always contain the most impeccable of garden greens. Cream of Crab still rules the menu, don't miss this as it's under marketed in my opinion. read more

This restaurant was next door to the Hyatt Place so we decided to dine here for dinner and was happy we did. I was very satisfied with the food, service and atmosphere. We had couple dozens of oysters to start along with crab dip. The oysters were huge! I ate the Grilled Rainbow trout, and it was quite delicious, and the mashed potatoes were like potato puree - it was so good. Most of my party had their crab cakes and commented how it was mostly jumbo lump with little fillers. Those were priced at $52 for two crab cakes. If you're staying at the Hyatt this place is literally a minute walk. I would highly recommend dining here. read more

This was a pleasant surprise of a dinner spot. It was quiet and relaxing. The restaurant next door had live music and it was loud. It was not for us. Fisherman's crab deck had an hour wait. We decided to come here and they had a table near the water available. It was nice and cozy and romantic. The fried oysters were good and would recommend it. We happened upon this waterfront restaurant on our way home from Dewey Beach. It was the best meal of our trip! Excellent service, attentive server and casually elegant atmosphere. However, the food was the real Star! We had trout with julienned vegetables and wedge salad. The fish was prepared well, the light sauce accented but didn't overpower the fish and the vegetables and potatoes were tasty. We will come again when we are in the area! We stopped by The Narrows for lunch and walked out full, happy, and already talking about when we'd be back. I had the tuna poke bowl, and it absolutely delivered on all fronts. Fresh, flavorful, and plated like someone actually cared what it looked like. My parents tried a couple of other things, including the shrimp salad sandwich, and everything was prepared with care and tasted fantastic. Not the cheapest lunch in town, but the quality surpassed the price. You get what you pay for, and here you get something worth coming back for. The setting was calm and relaxing with a great view of the water. Perfect for boat watching and probably even better at sunset. The space feels elevated without trying too hard. Our server Madison was fantastic. She was attentive without hovering, patient with our questions, and clearly cared about making the meal go smoothly. We've been here many, many times over the years and the experience has always been...adequate. We had occasion to come here again recently after not dining here for several years and I think we're done for a while. We had reservations for Mother's Day and inquired whether the lunch menu would be available in addition to the special holiday menu and were assured that it would be. We arrived several minutes early and it was a good thing, too, as there was no parking. We spotted a car (Rolls Royce?) departing from very close to the entrance and asked the lot attendant if we could take that spot. He said that was the owner's son-in-law who had been parked there and since it wasn't a legal space he couldnt recommend it. So the son-in-law is too good to park legally? Obnoxious. We checked in on time and were escorted to an adequate table in the dining room. We reviewed the menu and waited to be acknowledged by a server. And we waited. And we waited. Several made eye contact and averted their eyes as they attended to other duties. We observed a table two tables away that was seated aftwr us get greeted right away and served drinks. After more than 15 minutes, I approached the podium and advised them of the problem. A perfunctory apology was offered and I returned to the table to continue the wait. A few minutes later, a server arrived and explained that she had been told that no one had greeted us so she was taking the table. She was friendly and attentive throughout our visit - no complaints with her. The food? A disappointment. The crab vegetable soup was perfectly flavorless. The nuts and berries salad had scant nuts and berries. Additionally, the few nuts that were in the salad were sweetened. Had we known, we would not have ordered. If I could give 0 stars I would. Over priced...waaaaay overpriced. I ordered a ceasar salad with a seared tuna topper. What came was drowned wilted lettuce, tail croutons and a grey piece of overcooked fish...it died for no reason. I would've been embarrassed to serve the slop they did. Calamari came out cold and was tough. My wife's dish was boring and not up to the standards that should be held at a restaurant charging $35 + for a piece of trout. My parents have visited several restaurants in this area over the years, and brought me to the Narrows on a Wednesday evening this summer after flying in to town. The restaurant is on the water and is right off of 50, so it was a perfect spot for us to enjoy dinner before continuing to their house on the eastern shore. The front of the restaurant is decorated beautifully with various plants, which made it seem so welcoming. We had a table on their indoor patio overlooking the water. After perusing the menu, we decided on their light supper menu, as we had a bit more driving to do and were not hungry for a huge dinner. I would have loved to have seen more local/Maryland brews on the beer menu. I had the broiled crab cake with french fries. The crab cake was excellent. This was the perfect way to start vacation, and my long weekend of Maryland seafood eating! Beautiful views and a nice dinner! read more

I really wanted to love this place, but left underwhelmed. I did extensive research to pick the perfect dinner spot for my bfs birthday. I narrowed it down to three and had him look at menus and he picked the narrows. I called and make a reservation for 2 with a waterview. The restaurant is a cute little spot off the marina with bright lighting outdoors. Our reservation missed the request for a waterview but they worked it out and we were seated immediately with a view. We ordered drinks to start. They were out of the on tap drink so my bf opted for another cocktail. It was watered down and underwhelming and in hindsight he should've had a beer or wine. My gingerbeer was flat as well. Next the appetizers - I was craving fried green tomatoes and oysters so we got both. The fried green tomatoes were unfortunately gummy/soggy. The toppings of crab and corn did not give us freshness either. The oysters were a miss as well. For the oyster Rockefellers they put hollandaise on it, but we were not fans and ordered without. Of the trip the parm crusted we're the best, but the other versions lacked flavor. The entrees - we ordered the pecan crusted catfish on jalapeño polenta and crab cakes with mashed potatoes. Both were bland and underwhelming. I could not find pecans on the catfish to be honest. Hot sauce could not save them. Overall the food being off the water lacked freshness and presentation. We stopped the dining venture there and had dessert elsewhere. As a side, the hostess and waitress were nice and welcoming so still gave a 20% tip based on that, but the price for the food we ate was not worth it. read more

Asian couple sat down for lunch around 2 pm. Not very busy. No tables occupied where we sat. At least 6 servers were present standing around. For 15 mins no one served us. Not even eye contact. Nothing. They passed within few feet of us. We were completely invisible. We finally said something and server came over. Apologized saying there was a miss communication. She took the order and brought our drinks. Said drinks were on the house because of mix up. Manager never showed up. Mix up, really??? read more

My wife wanted a crab cake so we headed for the shore. She'd saw a good recommendation for the Narrows on Facebook so we wanted to take a shot. We were seated quickly on the outside patio. Great views of the bay on a beautiful day. Our server came and she was very nice r and professional. My wife ordered the crab cake platter and she was very happy. The crab cake had little filler and a lot of lump crab meat and was well cooked. For me it needed a little more seasoning but had a great flavor. I had a bowl of crab soup which with great with a lot of crab meat but again not seasoned enough for my taste. I also had a Cioppino that was loaded with seafood. Tuna, mussels, a large shrimp, crab and calamari. Again needed memory seasoning and the calamari was little over for me. We had a peach cobbler with ice that was awesome. For me it was a mixed bag with the food. Our server was a little slower than others waiting on customers near us but she was nice. We'll definitely return if nothing else fir the view and to sample other menu items. read more

Not a fan of this place. I think this restaurant lacks competition so the service and food stinks. We had a horrible experience with subpar food and service. There was obviously a training issue with our server and she struggled through the entire meal. We were there in the summertime, so it was busy and just wasn't a good night.
