Only providing a rating here because it came out piping hot so at least they were fresh. More on the oily side. - Buffalo Wings 3/5: These were decent! Good in size but the buffalo was slightly watery along with the ranch.

I like Bluewater because it's a safe option for larger groups and has enough variety that everyone can find something to eat. There were a few of us so we ordered beer, virgin coladas, regular coladas, calamari, fish tacos, fish and chips, a Caesar salad, and of course had several servings of their delicious sourdough bread with whipped butter. We were seated right up front on the water and under umbrellas so we didn't burn in the sun. The food came out at a nice pace with our favorite being the calamari. I enjoyed the mix of peppers and calamari. The fish and chips were good, though one of the pieces seemed a little rubbery and I thought it might've been the way it was cut before fried. We hung out for a couple of hours since it wasn't overly busy, were taken well care of by the staff onsite, and enjoyed the views and our meal.

When the waiter eventually headed in our direction, he walked past all of the waiting tables and stopped to talk with guests who had already been served. After sitting for 35 minutes without even receiving water or being greeted by a server, we left. The couple at the table next to us left as well. It truly felt as though the waiting tables were being deliberately ignored. There are many wonderful places to eat on Catalina Island, but based on this experience, I would avoid Topside.

It wasn't busy as it was during the week, and we found a table on the patio. Mr. B ordered a flight to try and we ordered a pineapple jalapeno pizza. I know many say pineapple doesn't belong on a pizza, but we happen to like it. The crust of the pizza was thin and covered in melted cheese, chunks of pineapple and slices of jalapeno. It was the perfect amount of spice and the pineapple calmed it down by adding a hint of sweetness. The beer was great, the pizza even better and you just can't beat the views of the bay. Service was good, and we were off to a good start of eating on Catalina Island.

The Naughty Fox earns a disappointing C-, despite having one of the most enviable locations right on the beach and being connected to the beautifully designed Bellanca Hotel. Unfortunately, the charm of the setting did not carry over to the cuisine. Several advertised ingredients were missing from multiple dishes. The vegan tacos, for example, lacked the mushrooms listed on the menu and instead featured hard carrots with an underwhelming flavor. Most of the components that should have made the tacos flavorful simply weren't there. The BBQ Tofu Grits were another miss--this dish needs to be seriously rethought. The vegan burger was also incomplete, and the watermelon-strawberry salad arrived with the wrong dressing and was overly simplistic. For a restaurant at this price point, the quality of the food fell far below expectations. Either the kitchen needs to bring in experienced chefs who can deliver on the menu, or the pricing should reflect the actual dining experience. It's frustrating to see such a beautiful location and atmosphere paired with subpar food. As it stands, The Naughty Fox feels like a non-sequitur--style without substance. We stopped by The Naughty Fox on the day of the Catalina half-marathon, and unfortunately, the experience was a bit of a mixed bag. With a big event in town, the restaurant only had one server, who was clearly overwhelmed. This led to a 15-minute wait just to be seated, even though there were plenty of open tables. As someone who prefers vegan options, I was disappointed to find no clear vegan choices. I ended up ordering the Catalina Salad without goat cheese and added avocado to make it vegan-friendly ($16 + $3 for avocado). The salad was decent but nothing remarkable. I also tried the espresso martini, the Indecent Proposal ($15), which was enjoyable, but it didn't quite make up for the lackluster dining experience. The big plus here is the view. if you can, try to get a table outside to enjoy it. Overall, The Naughty Fox has potential, but the understaffing and limited vegan options were definite downsides. read more

If you're hitting up Catalina Island, you've gotta check out The Naughty Fox. It's right across from the ocean, so you can soak up some killer views while you chow down. We tried stuff from both their lunch and brunch menus. The chicken sandwich? Amazing! It's got this cool curry vibe with a spicy kick that really pops. And the ahi nachos were off the charts -- seriously, some of the best I've ever had. Brunch was just as awesome. Everything was tasty, but the Avo toast was my personal fave. They've also got a solid cocktail menu that's perfect for kicking back and enjoying the scene. Just a heads up, it can get pretty busy, so you might have to wait a bit. The staff does what they can, but they're pretty swamped. Still, totally worth it. Trust me, The Naughty Fox is the best spot on the island for awesome food, cool drinks, and a chill vibe. This is the first place I ended up on the island and being my first time. I was really excited about my trip. However, the server was extremely rude and took 20 minutes to get one drink. We kept waiting for them to come back to ask about food at which point I went inside to see if there was only one server for 20 people and the hostess at the front confirmed it. I asked how long the food would take and she said she didn't know and did not offer to Check or help in anyway we waited for 30 minutes without any service. The way it wasn't the worst part. It was the lack of trying. It was no apology and no attempt to make amends for resourcing and attitude. I will not be going back. They started my trip off on such a bad note. read more

The naughty Fox Catalina Island is an absolute disappointment. I waited for 15 minutes without any acknowledgment from the staff. It's as if they go out of their way to ignore customers. The service is abysmal, possibly the worst I've ever experienced. It's astounding how they can run a business with such disregard for their patrons. The lack of attention to customers' needs is appalling. The staff's indifference reflects poorly on the establishment as a whole. It's a shame because the location could be charming, but the appalling service ruins any potential enjoyment. Save your time and money and avoid this café at all costs. read more

While the location has potential, my experience was disappointing due to a complete lack of customer service. I understand the space is small, but that should not result in guests being left unacknowledged. There was no greeting, no indication of when service might be provided, and no effort to make customers feel welcome. I normally have a high tolerance for waiting and understand that businesses can get busy, but this level of inattention was not acceptable. A smaller venue can offer an intimate and personable atmosphere, but unfortunately, this visit reflected the opposite. read more

Great service but the breakfast was bland (unseasoned) and super simple and super expensive. Menu has only a few selection to choose from. Won't not recommend. There are booths for families, a counter for breakfast service during the day, and tables that can accommodate larger groups. The restaurant serves generous portions of food and I highly recommend splitting dishes if you can! We split the Gnocchi al Pesto ($23), which was plenty of food for the two of us with a side of Caesar salad ($17). The Caesar salad was a huge serving with toasted croutons, but the dressing had a strong lemon flavor that was not our favorite. My daughter ordered the Fettuccine Carbonara ($22) and barely made a dent in the HUGE plate of pasta. The Carbonara was rich and flavorful, but I'd again suggest either sharing the pasta or having kids order off of the kid's menu. Kid's Menu offerings include Spaghetti with Meatballs, Fettuccine al Fredo, or Buttered Noodles. Overall, this restaurant provides generous servings of solid Italian food with the "island markup" prices we come to accept in Catalina. I loved sitting at the railing watching the boats go in and out of the harbour while spooning their fresh clam chowder into my mouth. I ordered and paid at the counter and as soon as my food was ready, they will call for my ticket. The fish platter was also super fresh. The grilled halibut was seasoned perfectly and the cocktail sauce and tartar sauce were a good compliment. They have a self service soda fountain with $1 refills. The views were great but you do have to watch out for the birds overhead. They have a sun shade to cover the eating area but the birds will steal your food if you are not attentive. The birds will also poop while flying so it is best to get a covered seat. Be prepared for communal seating and you also clear your food trash when you are done.

It's cool it being your own card games too. On the weekends I've caught some good live music, too! Hungry? They have all beef hot dogs, pretzel with beer cheese, polish sausages, pickled eggs, etc. Heatlamps and some fire pit tables are lit a night to keep you warm but keep in mind it's outside to check the weather and dress accordingly. I've been to Catalina solo, traveling alone as a woman I'm happy to report: I felt very safe and comfortable in the Biergarten. Bathrooms are in the back, in some of those fancy portable toilets (including a handicap ramped stall), so you don't have the leave the Gartën for anything. The owner Michael is so friendly and will remember the regulars from the main land (thanks for calling me a Legend haha), and shout out to Jack who works there too for his fun and kind energy.
