Last year was my first time running this event and it was such an enjoyable run that I had to do it again this year! It's such a quick and fun little run that I've decided I'll try and make it a point to run this every year. "Fun" is very subjective btw since who REALLY has fun jogging up an uphill that almost feels like an eternity? Thankfully the gorgeous view from the Coronado bridge can help keep your mind off of the pain during that steep incline. Also, once you get halfway across the bridge, it's a nice downhill from there :) A good number walk this event but if you're looking to run/jog it's best you try and get as close to the front of the starting line as possible. The entrance to the bridge isn't very wide so it can be a bottleneck and I can definitely see a runner getting completely stuck among the sea of people walking. The starting line is adjacent to the Bayfront Hilton and continues along through Barrio Logan where you pass by a lovely group of ladies dancing a traditional Mexican dance. That is where the first and only water station is as well. The ramp to the bridge is the beginning of the incline and is the steepest portion of the course. Once you get to Coronado you are greeted by a Navy band playing upbeat classical music and it's when you know you're about a mile or so away from the finish line. Outside of the scenic city and bay views from the bridge, the finish area is the main highlight where you'll hear the awesome Navy cover band belting out some lively tunes. Once you cross the finish, you pick up your medal and event tee at the booths nearby and work your way to the bananas and water table to hydrate and replenish those glycogen stores. Being this is only 4 miles, bananas and water is all your going to get but walk around to all of the vendors and there are snacks, protein drinks, and a slew of other goodies to fill a bag that I luckily won from the Wawanesa Insurance booth. So glad I had that bag since I wouldn't have had any place to put the countless goodies I grabbed from every vendor present :) read more

I love participating in this event and have been for years. My grandpa, uncle, cousin, etc. have all served in the Navy, and my Dad is also a USMC veteran. I also have family and dear friends who are currently serving or who are also veterans from various military branches. Whenever there is an opportunity to support the military, I try to volunteer my time/services in dedication to those who have served our country and freedom. This event supports athletes from the Balboa Warrior Athlete Program (BWAP) through the Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). BWAP is a program created for recovering injured military, veterans and dependents to play adaptive and Paralympics sports, assist rehabilitation and to "renew" quality of life. You get unbelievable views of the city by running over the Coronado Bay Bridge. It's the only event that allows participants to walk/run across the bridge. It's only a 4 mi walk/run, so it isn't strenuous and at the finish line it's a big PARTY!!! Not only do you feel a sense of accomplishment by completing the course, but you also feel a sense of pride and gratification... Note: This May event tends to sell out every year, so ensure your spot by registering early!!! read more

Brandy setup a UYE for this race for Yelpers in town for YSB San Diego. We met up before the race but split into walkers and runners. Packet pickup at Road Runner Sports, otherwise race morning near the Convention Center/start area. Bibs/chips also had the option of being mailed, but you still had to claim your cotton t-shirt at the packet pickup or after the race. Chips available for runners who wanted to be timed (tie to your shoe), but runner start area wasn't divided by pace or waves, pretty hectic. National anthem and flyover was pretty neat. Flat streets, started through Barrio Logan with mariachi band playing, incline up the bridge, decline down. Lots of walkers stopped to take selfies on the bridge. Overcast and windy, sun came out after race. There was even a helicopter taking aerial shots. A Navy band was also playing music toward the end of the course on Coronado. Finish was in Tidelands Park. Medal and shirt claimed by tearing off bib. Big, sort of colored medal, basic cotton tee. Celebrated its 30th year, there were special cookies for the occasion, you had to show your bib with your age to claim. Step and repeats to take photos with, bananas and waters provided. So many people, I didn't stick around too long post race. Unclear where ferries were located, I was able to find the bus shuttle area to get back to the start. read more

Overall a pretty fun race/event to do! and thank you Northrop Grumman for sponsoring my registration!! If you are like me and always takes photos while crossing the bridge, then this is the event for you! This was pretty cool experience, given that we literally ran/walked across the Coronado bay bridge! The run started at the Hilton bay front hotel and we took off south heading towards barrio logan before getting onto the bridge, the finish line was at tidelands park! If you are planning in doing this event in the future do allow for it to take a few hours or maybe even half a day! so plan accordingly. I got lucky and found free parking downtown [metered parking is free sundays] and walked to the starting line. Armed with my gopro, and extra battery for my phone, headphones.. I was ready to conquer the bridge! selfie sticks were popular, saw a few people with them, including my friend Amy! [ thanks for all the photos ! ] and for running/walking the bridge with me! after finishing the race, we were able to pick up our bridge run shirt and take advantage of our company's booth which had water, orange juice, coffee, bagels and cup cakes! yummy! we were starving when we finished! are you wondering how we came back to Downtown? they had free shuttles and also ferries taking runners back to the convention center. I took the ferry which dropped us off right at the convention center! [ first timer !! ] pretty cool to have check that off the bucket list! soreness and tiredness are a bargain compare to how much fun we had in this run, amazing pictures and fun times with friends! def. recommend it !! read more

2019: Ages 4-12 is $24 really!!!!!???? I guess I'm failing as a parent if my 4-8 year old can't run over the bridge.... I guess even if my 4 year old rides the stroller I need to pay??? I get it it's all about money. The view it's okay... every year the view gets worse. Who wants to look at Chula Vista? We need that downtown selfie!!! Not the dirty bay selfie. Parking is ridiculous! And waiting for the ferry ride is also equally ridiculous. The walk from the finish line to the ferry is okay I guess but dealing with the ferry people sucks. The run/walk is okay but price keeps going up and up and that sucks. read more

300th Review of 2013!! Yeah Buddy!! 5 stars because it's in my hometown of San Diego 5 stars because it's hosted by our US Navy 5 stars because this run benefits the MWR 10 stars because this was my first run/walk with my Honey Bunches of Oats aka my little girl. My pops served in the US Navy. He's retired and proud of his service. One initiative of the Navy....keep our country safe. I spent a handful of years living overseas via the Navy. And if it wasn't for the MWR, my great experiences overseas wouldn't exist. This run/walk is hosted by our US Navy and the proceeds go to the MWR. This event is just another way to give thanks. I felt that the event was organized. From your packet pick up to race day, everything seemed organized. If there's one issue, it would be your transportation back once the race is done. When you're done, you can choose the bus or the ferry to get back to the starting point. I don't do ferries, so the bus it is. This process is supposedly faster, but still took about an hour and half to get back to your car. If I do this run again, I know better to park at the finish line and hitch a ride to the start. Regardless, the traffic getting out of Coronado was tight anyway. Minimum 30 minutes of traffic out of the island. Now for this Run/Walk. That's exactly what it is, a Run/Walk. I originally entered Bay Bridge Run/Walk with my Brother-In-Law. Now we entered this 20 deep. Even better, my little girl joined in on the fun. Being that this is my first run with my baby girl, regardless where and how I finished, I knew this was a day I would never forget. One thing about this bridge, pedestrians are normally not allowed to walk on it. So being that this is one of those rare occasions only made this experience that much better. The top of the bridge was the biggest highlight for sure. Views of downtown Daygo and Coronado were beautiful. The run itself is only 4 miles. It's not the easiest 4 miles if you're looking for PR's since it starts off all uphill. But what comes up, must come down. After the halfway point, it's all down hill and easy. The original plan was to walk the whole thing and enjoy America's finest city. Halfway through, I couldn't help myself. Run and fun is what I did. Loved all of it!! This run is strictly a fun run. About 20% were runners and the rest were all walkers. You know what that means. It means you're spending your time either walking this, dodging walkers, or running in place. Overall, I had the best time ever with my teenager. We ended the run/walk with photographs with family. Time of my life! PS: First time doing this run equals PR baby!! read more

What a great experience!! It's only once a year that people are aloud to step foot on the Coronado Bridge. =D Though there were thousands of people who participated, I feel it was easy to get around the folks trudging a stroller and those that were walking. I liked that they had a mariachi band playing at about a mile in and then a Navy Band playing at about half way through. Having your run timed was neat too...gives you something to work on and beat next time. And I can't forget the chopper hovering beside the bridge for all of us to snap a shot. At the end there's several tents around giving away free goodies, snacks and plenty of grassy area to rest. I did pay the $5, during my pre-registration to take an MTS back to the starting line however I didn't know where that was and ended up taking the (free) bus ride back. This is one of those iconic San Diego runs! When else are you going to have the opportunity to run the Coronado Bridge? The option is also avilable to wakers at a later start time. The only complaint I would have is that it does get bottlenecked at times in certain places but hey, the price you pay for that unbeatable scenery! And you finish at Tidelands Park with a great finish line festival with plenty of vendors and FREE stuff. This year, I saw 7Up, Kind Bar, Pure Protein and lots more. I highly recommend and I plan on doing this one every year! read more

I was so very excited for this run. Great cause, great scenery. However, one thing ruined the entire race for us... The starting line is an ABSOLUTE DISASTER! There are no corrals, there are no starting waves, there is no space to actually line up to get to the starting line. There was more area for people to stand around on the grass and in line for the porta-potties than actually line up to race. Sister and I decided to run with her two little ones. We arrived an hour and a half early, and since we had strollers, we tried to stay towards the back of what was supposed to be the "running start" to be courteous. However, it seems as if 9000 of the 10,000 participants decide to walk this race. With the lack of differentiation of running and walking or waves, this leads to one mass of humanity slowly ambling over the Coronado Bridge with no way to get around large packs of people. It was noted in the race materials that the runners were to start at 8AM, while the walkers were to start at 8:10. There were no day-of announcements of this, or any type of organization. In fact, a rude lady actually told my sister (as she was attempting to jog around her) that this "wasn't a race." Really lady? A timing chip is provided... It is a race. Plus, you were supposed to start 10 minutes or more after we did. Ugh. As a family that does benefit from MWR, we would really love to give back. However, due to the disorganization and frustration, this will probably be a one-and-done run for us. read more

Typically, you are only allowed to drive on the bridge, and not to set foot. The only times people enter the bridge by foot are either: 1 - People participating in the once a year, Bay Bridge Run/Walk. 2 - People committing suicide. Hopefully everyone will be part of option 1, but hey... there are hotlines if you are considering option 2. o_O I'd like to deem myself a pretty avid runner, but considering the uniqueness of this event, I decided to selfie it, I mean walk it. It was a nice, breazy, scenic and fun stroll. There were TONS of people and if they were like me - they probably cared less about the actual race. This race would be great for families, kids and elderly. If you are a running aficionado this isn't for you. There's some kind of running event every week, so it shouldn't be hard to find something else. And theres no medal for those who care. You start in front of the Hilton Bayfront in downtown next to the Convention Center, and end up at Tidelands Park in Coronado. They offered a complimentary bus or ferry back to downtown if that's where you parked. The wait for both were pretty long, but if you had to pick between the two, I'd go with the ferry. It was actually pretty nice and relaxing. Too bad the ferry wasn't longer. After the race, they had a huge after party. Tons of vendors, photo ops, snacks, balloon animals, and on-going opportunities to win prizes (ie Zoo tickets, gift cards, and so-on.) I even met a guy that gave me his address! LOL! Well, technically, it had his phone number too. He ripped the information from his checkbook. Lol. My highlight of the event was the BANANAS. I guess they over planned the banana distribution or something because there were tons of bananas left over. We were allowed to take as many bananas as we wanted. Being the frugal Asian I am, I definitely took advantage... as in 49 bananas worth! Yeah, I hate bananas now. Lol. read more

For almost as long as I can remember I've been afraid of the Coronado Bridge; it's a long story but lets just say some things from childhood stick with you. That being said, I decided to conquer my fear and figured the best way to do it was to go full force and run the thing. So, I did. The run is very well organized, and even though there were 10,000 people everything seemed to flow smoothly. I went early and parked in overflow parking in Coronado, then rode the shuttle back across the bridge to the start line. It was a very easy process. It also made it easy to get back once I was done. The bridge stays open the whole time (though it's down to two lanes) so as I drove back across I got to honk and cheer on those still walking across. It was pretty awesome. The whole thing was great, but as others have mentioned if you're looking for a PR or just want a competitive race, this is probably not for you. There are just simply too many people, etc. etc. The cause is great and the experience is definitely worth it. This race typically sells out so make sure you sign up early! read more

There are two types of runners on this one: 1) Competitive dudes who finish in 21:00 and 2) hipsters and casual types who run/walk/bounce solely to take selfies because there's a great view at the top of the bridge. I made a huge mistake by not arriving early to get a good starting spot. If you want to run this for time, you need to be up front! There are parts to this course simply too narrow to traverse. The strollers are one thing, but the wide-bodied bigguns are in a whole other class. Although we gave in and just embraced the blob, this was the most uncomfortable running experience I've ever seen. It's just too narrow. Like trying to shoot the Pacific Ocean through a fire nozzle. Another tip: Post-race, do NOT take the free bus ride back to SD. The buses have to go over the bridge you just crossed. There's one lane, and it takes forever. Walk down to the ferry (it is free for runners) and you will be back in no time. It's ridiculously fast! Overall, this is a well-run event on a fun course with spirited participants. We just know for next time to get there early and start up front. read more

This run is amazing and very fun to do. It's once in a year where you get to actually go on the Coronado Bay Bridge and actually take time to soak in all the scenery. Downside is that there are some really crowded areas where it gets congested so it's hard to walk past some people. I also wish we were on the downtown side because that's where the real view is at. Very fun run. Tons of people, big crowd which included lots of strollers. Because of the amount of people in narrow paths, it was difficult to run but it's a good jog with a great view. I would definitely recommend for families and recreational runners. We walked the .5 mile to the ferry, line was crazy long so we went back to the buses. It didn't take long to get on a bus. The entire run was well organized. read more

Just ran this race today for fun...as I enjoy running in local 5k, 8k and half marathons....and this race was ANYTHING BUT FUN. The organizers should have put way more thought into cramming a bunch of runners and walkers on very narrow streets and paths. I started out in the middle of the mass of people, as I did not see any pacers holding signs, I tried sprinting ahead to get in front of the obvious walkers and tried to stay out of other walkers/runners way. I found my self and other runners around me hopping in the bushes, running in the dirt, and dodging outside of the safety cones almost into traffic, to keep my running pace. I have never encountered a more dangerous situation for all involved in a race as people were stopping in the middle of the street oblivious to the people approaching them from behind. Until the organizers separate the mass of people into heats of runners, run/walkers, and walkers, or even leave a lane open for runners, I WILL NOT BE DOING THIS SHAM OF A ROAD RACE AGAIN. read more

Fun way to support the US Navy community. I'm not a competitive runner so this event was perfect for me. A nice leisurely stroll across a San Diego landmark was a great way to spend the morning. The views from the Coronado Bridge I had seen before, but in a vehicle traveling at high speed. Having the chance to do it on foot was the biggest attraction to the event for me. I brought my camera(s) and took some great pics of South Bay, Coronado Island, the downtown skyline and the bridge itself. The early AM start was rough, but worth it after seeing all that. Though it was not promoted as a race they did issue timing chips and I'm happy to say, I did NOT finish last. I checked the final results posted online to confirm that. Was tough to hear the PA at the start, but they did invite the runners to the front of the starting line. There were some people that were running at a pretty good pace that passed me, but there were tons of strollers, elderly folk and goofball photographers to dodge. Probably not the best choice for serious runners. read more
