While in town for my niece's college graduation, my mom and I stopped here just for dessert. The girls at the hostess station were distracted so we kind of stood there waiting to be seated for an unnecessary amount of time. Annoyed me slightly! This place also had an odd smell. Sitting outside on their patio was appealing to me and more pleasant than dining inside. The weather was perfect during our visit! Our server was prompt in taking our orders. She did a good job throughout. I got the chocolate cake and my mom got the strawberry cheesecake. Both were equally delicious!!! The portions were huge and the prices were pretty cheap. The Neighbors Place is an ok restaurant with good food, service and comfortable atmosphere. We ate here a couple of times and each time we had a good server; Michelle in particular was a very good waitress. Michelle always had our drinks topped off before we had to ask, our orders were submitted correctly even when we modified the standard entree. The food was good quality and quantity. It was fresh and tasty. There was a few items that needed to go back because it was under cooked or wasn't cooked right even though the server took the order correctly. Their desserts are very good with the exception of the key lime cheesecake, which tasted like powder and malt from a shake. Sent it back for something else after first taste. Their brownie with ice cream was a favorite for our table. Overall, a good restaurant where you'll get good food in good quantity for a reasonable price. Kitchen can improve on what they are putting out would help the rating. read more

Came here on my annual multi-city summer food road trip. Minutes from Jefferson's poplar forest, the outdoor seating dining area was nice and sever was very friendly. Ordered the fried green tomato BLT on Texas toast that had pimento cheese on it. Came with a side of sweet potato casserole and a side bacon walnut salad. Honestly, everything was fantastic from the flavor profile of the sandwich to the toast of the bread. The casserole has the perfect amount of sweet as well with nice subtle broil on marshmallow. The salad vinaigrette was very flavorful. Minor feedback being it could have crispy bacon like the sandwich as opposed to refrigerator cold bacon crumbles as it could use a hot accompaniment . Let's start with the positives - our food was delicious tonight, the salmon & grilled chicken were cooked perfectly. Our server was amazing but I can't remember his name. The manager i had to speak to was very professional and apologetic for the issue we had. She offered to move us, give us a free dessert, she was trying to rectify a situation the hostess had caused. She did offer a discount on the bill which was appreciated but honestly I only voiced my complaint so hopefully it doesnt happen again. Now to the issue and the negative - the hostess sat us (me and my husband) at a table. No one around us then immediately put 3 tables together and we overheard they were sitting 15 people there. None of those 15 had inside voices and were extremely loud the entire time. We finally had to box our food up and leave. We had asked to be moved but honestly itd gotten to the point we were just annoyed that grown adults would be so loud and disrespectful in a nice restaurant. If your goal is to be drunk and loud go to bdubs or I dunno stay home so you dont ruin other people's dinner out. Overall we enjoyed the food and the staff aside from the hostess were great. We wont let this stop us from visiting again and will definitely speak up faster next time if put in a situation like that. read more

We ate there on Feb 17, 2024. My wife had the Pork chops with mashed potatoes and risotto. The mashed potatoes were tasty but needed salt. Risotto was creamy but lacked seasoning. Pork chops were slightly overcooked. BBQ sauce was tasty, sweet. I had the BBQ Pork mac and cheese. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The BBQ Pork was tender, delicious. I only found thin pieces of shredded Pork in the dish. The dish was creamy, although way too much BBQ sauce. So much in fact, I couldn't really taste the cheese sauce. The dish was topped with crispy onions. I liked the texture the onions added to the dish. The BBQ sauce was tasty, sweet. Overall a tasty dish, just too much BBQ sauce for my liking. read more

I enjoyed the food. I got the blackened chicken pasta and it was delicious! My husband got the salmon and grits and while I don't eat salmon, the grits were good. Everyone seemed very pleased with their food except for my son-in-law who ordered the pulled pork sandwich. He said it tasted more like sloppy joes but they were very accommodating and swapped it out for a burger which he enjoyed! Great customer service. Our waiter was very attentive & friendly. My wife and I decided to try neighbor's for a quiet late supper and sadly were disappointed. We were sat in a open area and quickly realized as they moved tables beside us that a party of 15 were about to be sat directly beside us which had obviously been getting tanked at the bar waiting on others to arrive. We ordered hoping for the best but the people were sat and intoxicated and obnoxiously loud like cringe worthy laughs and talking over each other at increasingly loud volume due to alcohol. Our food came quickly and was delicious but ruined by poor seating and rude people. The food and service were spot on the hostess could have done a better job as their were plenty of open other tables. They did offer to move us but by then I had a splitting headache and was just done with the dinner as a whole. After speaking to a manager they did comp half the meal and the server apologized and was suprised other tables hadn't complained as he could hear them being loud. We will probably give them another chance but hopefully rude ass drunk people dont ruin that experience. read more

We went here for lunch and it was good. The lunch menu was mainly sandwiches, but they offered other entrees as well. It was definitely not as extensive as the dinner menu but still a good variety. The food we received was tasty and satisfying. However, please note on the menu that certain side items like rice pilaf and spinach have a heat-kick. Servers were friendly but young and not well organized or attentive. It took a while to get the attention of our server since she was busy talking and laughing with the kitchen staff. The ambience felt like a cafeteria on one side, but an attempt at a trendy bar on the other. The bathrooms were stocked well but smelled like someone peed all over the floor. Maybe if our server was more attentive we could have told her about it. Dinner might be a different experience and we would be interested in trying this place again. read more

Hubby and I had lunch here on Friday. As usual, we had a really good lunch and were served by a very knowledgeable, sweet server (Skyler) who went out of her way to make our visit a good experience. We started with Cheese Curds followed by Stir Crazy Neighbor (with shrimp, steak and chicken) for my husband and I had grilled chicken with waffle fries and cole slaw. Overall I would give this place a 6.3/10. The atmosphere as warm and inviting and the decor was pleasant. Big open dining rooms, large light fixtures, high ceilings and a well stocked bar area. The drink menu was extensive although the wine selection (for glasses) was on the lower end of quality. We sat in a smaller dining room off to the side that was a bit outdated and had old carpeting. The food menu was large which is not always a good thing in my book. I prefer it when they do a few things well over a ton of things mediocrely. The blue cheese wedge was sub par and floating in dressing with big chunks of tomato and fatty bacon. The crab cake, green beans, and mashed potatoes were great and my daughter loved the kids pizza. Service was just okay, I had to ask for a refill and it seemed like things in the service department were taking forever for it being 2pm. Ask for a refill-wait 10 minutes- ask for a box- wait 10 minutes - ask for the check - wait 10 minutes - hand over the credit card- wait 10 minutes. That gets exasperating with children who are ready to go. They accommodated allergies at our table well despite the server being young and seemingly inexperienced. The bathrooms were mostly clean but smelled god awful and there was water damage in the ceiling that looked pretty bad. Rusty mirror. We had lunch today at The Neighbours Place. It's a pretty large restaurant, very open. It was about half full at the peak of lunchtime. The menu is large, with about 20 sandwiches and just as many salads, with numerous entrees and a few soups. We had a pretty good sandwich and a blackened chicken pasta dish which was also pretty decent. Although we couldn't imbibe because we were driving, I checked out the wine list, which was unique. It was a short list of mainly lower priced, common bottles, but it also included a couple of extremely expensive items, like a $260 champagne. Very out of place for the food and clientele. I'd rate it as a reliable, safe lunch spot, but without a distinguishing attractive feature to bring me back. I guess that's faint praise. read more

I wasn't greeted with any warmth at all. I get it, you're at work, but the energy was so weird from the hostesses. Then on top of that my waitress gave me attitude the entire time. I asked if they had Mac and cheese and she said yes, and came out with Alfredo.(I could've looked at the menu to double check, but it was on the spot) I ordered lamb chops and they were soooo cold. Mind you, I didn't complain at all to her because she was already giving me attitude and I just wanted a good time with my partner. The food tasted great. It was just cold. Neighbors is definitely a Lynchburg staple! I can't count how many times I've been at this point, but I've been coming here with my family ever since it opened. The menu is extensive and has tons of options for everyone, including a solid amount of vegetarian options (which is rare for Lynchburg!) The drinks are super reasonably priced, and they have a solid beer selection. I typically get the Strawberry Spinach Salad when I go. I also frequently get the Vegetable Plate (choice of 4 items from the Sides menu); I especially like the Mushroom Risotto. When going in a group of 5 or so, we usually split a dessert for the table - I definitely recommend the New York Cheesecake with strawberry sauce! The wait staff are always very friendly and attentive. Overall, Neighbors is a consistent place to dine in Lynchburg! read more

This place has fantastic food! Their honey creole salmon is the best salmon I've ever had. They have a lot of sides to choose from and their waffle fries and mashed potatoes are my favorite. I e always had great food from here, but my one complaint would be the prices: they're a bit high for the portion sizes. I got the Neighbors Surf and Turf the most recent time we visited, which was an 8oz sirloin (that looked a bit smaller) with a few shrimp, a tiny bowl of vegetables, and some waffle fries. It was $30 and just wasn't worth that amount I didn't think. As I said, the food is good, but overpriced for the amount you get. The staff is always very nice and I liked the atmosphere, which is quieter and looks like a borderline "fine dining" restaurant. Definitely visit, but be prepared for the prices! read more

The food quality really depends upon the dish. I don't recommend the risotto - the cooks just don't know how to get it right. Most servers are young and additional training in hospitality and identifying customer's needs would go a long way in increasing restaurant profits (and their tips!). I went there with my husband a few weeks ago and realized as he was drinking from the glass that it was cracked down the side. A server, I'll just say her name starts with a "M" offered a "not very sincere" apology. A discount was never offered and we never spoke to the manager about our concerns that my husband drank from that glass and could have been injured. We like the ambiance overall and will continue to eat there but we will definitely be looking at the drinkware. We are just disappointed about the broken glass situation and that there was no compensation even though it was not intentional. read more

We just finished touring Poplar Forrest and we ran across the restaurant on the other side of the exit. Wasn't real busy but nice enough in appearance. Got a little concerned when hostess just walked away and threw tableware and menus on a table and walked away. Waiter wasn't very friendly either but got the job done. Food was good though. Portion size was excellent. The chicken salad sandwich looked good. The steak was cooked perfect. Burgers were ok sort of plane Jane. The Po Boy sandwich was very good. Prices were very fair. Frankie was our server and she honestly might be one of my top 5 servers of all time. I'd go back on the regular if I didn't live 3 hours away just for Frankie. Great menu with a lot of choices. Noisy but fun casual atmosphere. The loaded pico tots were delicious as were the fried risotto balls (also known as arancini). My wedge salad was good but not the best I've ever had. My coconut shrimp was delicious but I would not recommend the smoked gouda mac and cheese side as it was very dry with hardly any cheese on it.
