Visited Macado's again- 13 years after my first visit. Little has changed for the better. Service is a bit slow. I had fish and chips, which was Tgood. there was one rather large hunk of fish and way too many fries at a pricey $14.00. My guest ordered chicken strips- If I had known the amount of fries I would get, she could have avoided buying a separate order of fries I recommend the Tennessee cheesecake. It still seems a Liberty U student hangout, The centrally situated bar was large and very noisy. (Does beer make one deaf?) I didnt notice it the first time I was here but the booth seats are EXTREMELY uncomfortable. They are solid flat wood with square front edges and backs. Maybe the discomfort contributes to getting people to refrain from hanging around after they eat- it sure worked for me. Use your GPS as the place is hard to find without one. Friday night visit - chicken salad: chicken tasted like several day old rotisserie chicken that I buy from Costco. Didn't look good or taste good. Flatbread pizza. The appearance was a piece of naan bread with sauce, sloppily thrown on with ham and cheese that appeared to have been bought at Walmart as it still contained the round shape of cheese and the look and texture of ham that you would buy out of a lunch meat container. Myself and kids really enjoyed this location. We came on trivia night and the waitress was just so wonderful. I am used to visiting downtown roanoke or Blacksburg location but we came here after a long day shopping for art supplies. I had the chicken Alfredo, kids stayed busy with the kids menu and they had a large selection of food and drinks. Everyone says "WOW" seeing the menu. Was sad the banana split is no longer available. This location didn't have the insane wall collection they do at other locations, but the service was wonderful, tvs for trivia (that night), friendly and social patrons as everyone was participating. WOW! I loved it here, my experience was top tier. I came for the Sunday special and got exceptional service. My server, Cece, had answers to all of my questions and constantly made sure my drink was full! I enjoyed the Bang Bang boneless wings. Food = 11/10 She said the fry chef, Brad, was the best fry cook and could accommodate my request of half cooked frips! (Try it if you haven't!) As a customer, my boyfriend & I started coming a few weeks ago for dates. I used to spend weekends here drinking w/ my friends when I was younger & not much has changed, it's still a nice spot to hang out but seems to be not nearly as busy as it used to. Our food has been good all except for the fish & chips, my fish wasn't seasoned enough to my liking & their side salads aren't good but I suppose you could request iceberg lettuce instead of romaine. The frozen drinks are great but could use a little more alcohol. The frozen ice cream sandwich is to die for. The bang bang shrimp is our favorite of the appetizers. I have been here twice. Both times I had to stand out front for at least 10 minutes because no one was up front. Today I I went to the bar and no one was there either. As I was getting ready to leave the bartender came out of the backroom so I asked if I could order. He said did I know what I wanted. I asked for a menu. So, he have me a menu. When I told him I was ready to order he said oh, will find someone to take your order. I was perplexed at that point. The only person I saw was what I thought a customer so I just said ok. The bartender walks over to this individual and said something. I didn't think much of it until she got up and walk over towards me and said something to me. I didn't understand what she said so I asked what she said and she said come up front and I will take your order so u said OK. We go occasionally after church. The food is always good, service is a little slow. My complaint is how this place looks outside. There is a small patch of plants from the corner to the door, full of weeds, cigarette butts. And there is a cedar type tree growing in these weeds near the front door which we have watched since it was quite small. The bathroom had toilet paper on the floor and looked very messy. I have never had a sandwich here that I didn't like, which is why all the terrible reviews surprises me so much. Say what you want about any of the service you've experienced, but every time I've been, my experience has been accommodating, maybe a little slow, but always ends with whatever I ordered on the table, in front of me, hot and ready to eat. I have had 23 of the 42 sandwiches on the menu and each one has been great in its own way, which is part of the reason I love this place: the variety and consistency is killer! I think my favorite so far has to be the Ragtime or the Burlesque. You also HAVE to get the potato salad as a side--best I've ever had, hands down! Plus, if you're not into sandwiches, they have all different kinds of appetizers, shakes, and other entrees (I recommend the Irish nachos over the mozz sticks). The shakes are DELICIOUS as well, and the cinnamon sensation is just a good ol fashioned right-of-passage for anyone who's new to the LYH area. When your not provided a timeline and you specifically tell both the hostess and the waiter your in a hurry that's a problem. First time at this chain as it was conveniently located from the Liberty University pool. My son wanted to try and rarely do I not insist on looking at reviews. With a rush I said why not and this was a critical error on my part. Place was rustic inside with lobby case full of Simpson memorabilia, cheesy much but that's the possible allure of the place for kids maybe. The restaurant was probably 85% capacity. So yes they were busy. Seated ourself in bar area after hostess told us it was the quickest service. Asked bartender to assist us and advised my son needed food out ASAP with returning to the pool. No mention of any issue at all. After waiting 35 minutes for the equivalent of a Subway Melt sandwich I asked the timeline by going over to bar and speaking with the male server. I told him again we were in a hurry....remember. He left for 5 minutes and returned with it would be another 25-30 minutes. At that point I told him I was disappointed that he said nothing of an hour timeline to get food which should have been conveyed at time of ordering. We immediately left and had no time for food before returning to the pool. This is absolutely my fault for not checking the poor reviews before coming here. Lesson learned. I stopped by the restaurant today at 1:15pm for lunch. There were no cars in the front parking lot but some in the back - I'm assuming of workers. I walked in and stood at the front for a while and no one ever came to seat me. I walked around to the bar and saw no one. We stood and waited for someone to seat us for around 10 mins looking at the art on the walls, not thinking anything of it because it wasn't a rush hour. After we sat down we had to wait another 10 minutes to just get water and meet our server. And that's when she asked "how we are doing?" We said great how about yourself and she replied with "I've been better". Not something you want to hear from your server. The server never checked on us. Once the burgers came out they were super over cooked, more than a well done burgers. And that's when she mentioned how rough her day was. She mentioned while dropping our food off that she had to clean poop out of the urinal at 7:30am and it was a rough start to 2025 as it was January 1st. Overall not a fantastic experience I have never written a review as I tolerate a lot. This was just on a whole different level. That is no way to run a restaurant, the general manager was no where to be found.
