Short and sweet: This bar has great potential, but due to the arbitrarily enforced, male-only, cover charge and the rude response given when I refused to pay and walked away, I will never be returning and I would advise anyone to steer clear. Long and sour: I'm in Vegas for Punk Rock Bowling, and I enjoyed my first visit (Thursday) so much that I returned the next two nights (Friday & Saturday), and tried to return a fourth time (Sunday). This time was different, despite being let in on Saturday with no ID check because the door guard recognized me, the same guard stops me to check my ID (I don't have a problem with that, I work security at a bar I know that sometimes you recognize people and sometimes you don't). He was about to let me in no problem, when he stopped to read my shirt (it was a shirt hating on white supremacists). We had a short conversation about it. Then he stops me from walking in, and proceeds to tell me that there's a $10 cover. I asked when the cover started, and he replied saying that "It should have started last night". I don't go to bars that charge a cover, but that's not the point. When I passed the two girls at the host stand down stairs, one mentioned that, "It's only for guys", and then very rudely, "You get a free drink so it's exactly the same!" If they are just trying to make more money, why not charge a small fee for games? Free things are nice, but people are more than willing to pay to play, especially if it's cheap. The cover definitely seemed like it was getting put on because the door guard didn't like my shirt and didn't want me to come in. If there's a dress code, it would be nice to know that. My friends and I spent a lot of money there over the three days, and it's a shame we won't be coming back. The owner Nicholas thinks that his bad reviews are mainly because of the "music choices" but even if you glance at the reviews, you know that's not true. I hope that they clean their act up and get rid of the bad seeds, because the bar has so much potential. TLDR: Nerd Bar, stop enforcing arbitrary rules. read more

SCREW WHAT PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT. I got a Groupon to this place and their customer service and drinks are great! They have a dance floor, free bowling, free billiards, etc. they deserve 5+ stars. The workers are super friendly and the environment is great for anyone. Naomi is such a sweetheart and has great interpersonal communication skills.. always came to me and my bf asking if we needed drinks, and if we were okay. She was awesome!!!! Great spot to hang out with some friends! :). Cover is usually only around 6 dollars if there is one AND that comes with a free drink. So it's basically free to get in. They have bowling lanes, video games, pool, movie memorabilia everywhere. It's great. Best part is that it's all free. Every time I've been there with a few friends we've been able to just jump into a bowling lane right away. It's a MUST when downtown. read more

We where looking for a place to watch the new episode of Game of Thrones and this place was by our hotel. The entrance was a little bit confusing, because it's inside an empty plaza but we found it. The Nerd is a great place for people to go if you're looking for a bar with free activities and friendly staff. Each time I've went, I've been pretty impressed with the amount of people in there and it's always a good time. Beers are overpriced. Bowling can't keep score and only has children's size balls. Bartender was funny but resented having to give you the crappy free shot the promoters offer. Went here for an after party with my boyfriend and a few of our friends. This place was a lot of fun -bowling area, free games, and a dance floor. I love this place! It is way better than Insert Coins. It is huge and it has a bowling area, a stage, pool table and hopefully they will have Karaoke :). It's also in the right location. The music is great as well. It's definitely a place to go and hang out. I read the previous posts from other people who went to this place and I totally disagree. The bartenders were great, and trust they do know how to make drinks. So I say give it a try! Also, at least they don't charge to play their video games which is another plus... We went here on a Monday night - it was super dead, and yet we still were not acknowledged by ALL THREE bartenders for a good five minutes when we first walked up. Nobody was even around us - they just ignored us at first, and treated us like we were a burden to serve when they finally did. The bar itself is a neat place with video and board games, but we couldn't bowl because they have a very little selection of bowling balls that didn't fit our hands. Would have never found this place if it wasn't for that promo girl handing out fliers on the corner street by Slotzilla. Went in on a Tuesday night 10/10/17. Place was pretty fun. There was a pretty good dj that took my request, music was good, alcohol decently poured and fairly priced. The bowling lanes were a dry, but it was free to bowl. Wish the arcade were free to play. I don't normally give such a low star rating but I did not like this place at all. It's a little hidden on Fremont street on an upstairs level. Once you arrive there is a door guy who cards you and scans your ID and he isn't the friendliest (but that's ok), enter a bar and to the left are pool tables, and a couple working bowling alleys. We go to the bar and it looks as though the bartender is training a new bartender (which is fine). He gets done with his conversation and asks what I'd like to drink. "I'd like a corona, please" He responds jokingly, "nope" and looks for a corona... "oh, actually no corona... something else?" "Hmmm... how about a Heineken for my boyfriend?" Bartender responds, "we don't have that either. Would you like anything on draft, I can give those to you for free". I guess. So we get two draft beers and there was something in my boyfriends drink. We still tip a couple dollars anyway. We had a couple friends meet us there and ordered two mixed drinks. They didn't make the adios drink the right way so we brought the full drink to the bar and cashed out. Decided to take the drink with us considering how expensive it was. NOPE... door guy stops us and says we can't take it out. (We had previously taken our beers out to smoke). Whatever at this point. Other places on Fremont that are way more welcoming and would take our money. Concept is neat but a far way to go if they want to stay open. This is easily my favorite place in town. What's not to like about it. They have billiards, bowling, and beer! They should change their name to Triple b. Oh wait that's already a bar. But wait The Nerd also offers video games that are strategically placed around the venue to satisfy all of your gaming needs. They have a multitude of different consoles and video games. They also buy mostly all of the latest video games the day they come out so if you've been hankering to play that new video game but don't want to scratch together 60$ to buy it, head on down to The Nerd and play for free. Not to mention all the great networking opportunities you will have with your peers. I mean I don't know for sure, but I Prolly met my future wife there lol. Is this anonymous? Oh well idc. But seriously, don't sleep on it because you can meet all types of different people. Last time I was there I met a huge esports personality/player. Now I did notice some other reviews talking about a 10$ entry fee. I don't think I've ever paid an entry fee at The Nerd but I would happily give them 10$ just to enter the venue, let alone drink at it. I mean you get to bowl, booze, play video games, and play pool. I'm sure after a few bad reviews, they improved a little bit. There was no bouncer at the door and we walked right in to the bar. Someone had later came to check our ID's, which was fine; we came early, as it wasn't that busy. We had put one of our ID's on hold to play one of the games and they even gave us a free drink and didnt charge us in the alcoholic ice cream we ordered, and we had ordered a decent amount of drinks, and it was fairly cheap. A week later, my boyfriend didnt realize he had left his ID there and they actually still had it there, unlike other places where it could've gotten misplaced after the night by whoever was holding it. It was decent service. The theme wasn't so much "geeky" or "nerdy". It didnt seem so welcome to those who've been deemed that stereotype. It is just a typical bar with decent service. read more

We came here with a Groupon for an open bar, and we were not disappointed at all. I'll definitely be excited if they do actually end up expanding into the Austin area like they plan to. This is sort of an "anit-nightclub" situation which is exactly what my friend and I were looking for. Pros: -The place has free bowling, video games, billiards and tabletop gaming. They also seem to host some tournaments and I think they were filming a Youtube video for some kind of gaming while we were there. We ended up playing a Buffy board game that was pretty fun even if we were making up our own rules -The service was awesome. Chris, the owner, was helpful and personable, Kristyn was super sweet and made AMAZING drinks (ask for the Kristyn special, it's like a refreshing cucumber kind of drink that you'll be asking for everywhere). Of course there was one other guy with long hair whose name I didn't catch, but he deserves kudos for his awesomeness too. -The playlist was on point. A lot of alternative tunes everyone can sing along to as well as some more fun stuff like the Space Jam and Pokemon theme songs. -They also have hookah there which I totally would have done if I'd been out with someone who smoked hookah. This place has such SO much potential to be an amazing go-to place but it falls flat on its face. some of the bowling lanes don't work, some of the arcade games were inoperable, there's a ton of unused space and there are too many pool tables (most of them are uneven). The idea of this place is amazing, but the execution isn't there. please update your bowling lanes, put more arcade games in, and replace some of the pool tables with air hockey and/or foosball tables. i'm sure people would be more than happy to pay for these items if the tables were fixed and available. read more

Cool atmosphere but the bartenders are really bad. Waited like 15 mins to get a drink with only ten ppl in the whole place. The two female bartenders where just talking to each other while I was standing in front of them. Must be friends of the owner or something cuz there terrible at there job. Most bartenders work fast for better tips not theses ladies. I tipped well on the first drink after bad service later on I stopped tipping. ( I always leave a tip not after that service.) i had nothing but a good time in this bar. As soon as we arrived an employee came to set us up with billiards and to take our drink order. The drinks arrived fast and she came back multiple times to take more drink orders and check if we needed anything. There is free bowling, billiards and multiple gaming stations scattered through out the place. Mixed drinks were about 13 bucks and beer about 6. The only problem is that the place is fairly isolated and hard to find. read more

They charged me $4 dollars for a small cup of coke and don't even offer refills. Maybe this is standard for bars in the area but it felt like it was so expensive for what I got. Unfortunately one of the servers with shoulder length hair and big boobs was of horrible service. She was rude and explained that if my group wasn't purchasing any drinks at all we would get kicked out. She was very mean and horrible customer service. I've been to The Nerd 3 times and every time that I go I think it'll always be better than the last time I've gone and every time I'm disappointed. It's a very sad bar and I'm always talked back into going but I don't know why I go back and I probably won't go back after this. Tucked in the corner of a dying "Neon Alley" on the 2nd floor it's a bit hard to get to and totally underwhelming. The decor is dated, the lighting is poor and most of the "nerd pieces" are broken. The first thing that a guest sees is a fairly large bar. I tried ordering a drink but after about 10 minutes the bar staff were pretty preoccupied pouring shots for themselves. When I threw up my hands and asked who I needed to talk to get a drink a guest told me that he'll grab a friend who works there. A lowest shelf, no name vodka soda costs $7 and a beer costs $10 which I guess is pretty common prices for Freemont (which is always a shock for a Vegas local). They offer free bowling but no way to keep score and broken video game consoles and sticky controllers. I would skip this place and find a nice local spot. If you're a Vegas local, convince your tourist friends to go elsewhere and if it's your first time in Vegas best keep walking down Freemont. read more

Second time going in and there was a $6 cover charge to get in which gets you a well drink or a PBR. The bowling balls are super heavy and someone with long skinny fingers would be best fit. Yes, games are free, but that one hurt my fingers and heavy on my feet. I did enjoy playing with the game consoles while drinking. Looks like the owner was also the security guy this time and he seemed stressed out. They really should promote their location more than they're already not. It is hidden upstairs. You wouldn't know about it unless you looked at their two signs on Fremont, which doesn't say much. You've got two girls at the door. One can walk around and go walk around Fremont promoting it.
