They do not tell you that the "small" rice portion is literally smaller than your palm which is ridiculous because you're paying almost $8. The chicken looks like it was pre chewed (not literally) but that's what it looks like. It was really slimey and had no flavor at all. Used to order from here all the time when they were located in Southie. I got it a few months ago and thought the food quality was pretty poor, but wanted to give them one last chance. I ordered through GrubHub about 25 minutes before they closed. The order was accepted, I got an abrupt call from the restaurant demanding I pick up the order because they were closing. I told them I don't have a car and I ordered delivery through GrubHub. She told me she'd call the driver and hung up on me. 5 minutes later the order was cancelled, 45 minutes after placing it. One of the places I tend to order from when I'm hanging out with my best friend who lives in Dorchester. The best thing is the food always arrives on time, if not before, is always hot, and tastes decent. I usually got chicken wings (whole) and fried rice. Both are averagely good (I enjoy them, but maybe not the best I've ever eaten). This is my go-to place for Chinese food near Southie and Dot. I might give it 3 stars in most other cities, but in Boston, this is definitely some of the better Chinese food I've had. They used to be located in Southie, but moved to Dot recently. Thankfully, they still deliver to all of Southie. The delivery is pretty fast and the food arrives hot. Portion sizes are standard for Chinese restaurants, but prices are a little on the expensive side (still typical for the city). I have found the quality to be solid and consistent, which is much more than I can say for some other Chinese restaurants in the area. This place is very solid! Definitely the best Chinese in all of Southie. It's fast, fresh, flavorful and very fairly priced. I ordered the sesame chicken, crab Rangoons, and hot and sour soup -- all 3 were very tasty and flavorful! The guys behind the counter were extremely friendly and appreciative of my business. They even told me about their lunch specials, which included all the items that I wanted and saved me a few bucks. How nice of them! The interior of the restaurant is nothing special at all, but what happens in that kitchen is certainly is! This is definitely a great choice for take out or delivery. I order from this place about once a week - they never get my order wrong, the food always arrives hot, and I get exactly what I'm expecting every time I order from them. Maybe it was what I ordered, although all items should be above average. So, I called and got a woman on the phone who apparently didn't know the menu. I began to order szechuan orange chicken. I tried to confirm with her that it was lightly fried. As I was simply reading the item's description on their menu. She seemed confused, said they never made it like that (although I was reading from the menu ver batim). Then in mid sentence she hung up on me! Solid Chinese takeout in Southie/Dorchester. Dorchester especially is lacking good options in this department. Delivery is fast through GrubHub and they are accommodating with special requests. When I ask for them to throw in a bunch of red peppers, they actually do it. They believe me when I say I want it "extra spicy"! My favorite is the beef with garlic sauce. The Szechwan beef is pretty much the same thing, with the former having a sweeter sauce. The kung pao chicken is also exactly the same as the Szechwan beef, except with chicken instead. Okay, so creativity isn't their strong suit. But, I will say that their ingredients seem fresh as far as cheap Chinese goes, and it's all tasty. If I'm feeling particularly gluttonous I go for the sweet and sour pork, which has the preferable small chunks of pork, not huge slabs of it. However, the breading is unnecessarily thick, so I end up tearing most of it off. They accommodated my request for chopped onion in the sauce, which I personally feel makes the dish. Other notables: good mix of veggies in the vegetable delight, the only egg roll I've ever liked (no meat), light and crispy spring rolls, and crab rangoon with onion in the filling, making it taste less like pure cream cheese than other variations on this dish. In conclusion: I'm a fan. My boyfriend isn't, but we come from different coasts. He's a Boston native, and I'm from California where Szechwan cuisine is the norm. read more

I've lived in Southie for about 6 months now and have tried pretty much every Chinese place in the neighborhood. This is the only place that I have actually wanted to go back to after the first trip. I can't comment on much of the menu because I only get General Tso's Chicken but it is delicious! You get a fair amount of chicken in pieces that aren't huge and impossible to cut, lots of fried rice and, my favorite part, an egg roll! All for like $8 or $9 (You also get chicken teriyaki on a stick but that, I will admit, is pretty gross). I always get the food to go because the restaurant itself leaves a lot to be desired. Due to the convenience and quality of food there, the unattractive dining area doesn't bother me. I also like that you can order online and the food is always ready pretty quickly. This is my new go-to Chinese restaurant in Southie. There are a lot of things they could improve as far as appearance goes, but I like the food so I can't complain. read more

Overall the food was ok. boneless ribs were the thinnest scraps of meat I have ever gotten from a chinese restaurant. I have eaten at the New Ho Toy Several time. I work close by and have eaten here probably a dozen times over the past year. There have been times (during snow storms) that I have eaten their fried rice (not pork) twice a day. The food is good, hot and fresh. The people that work here are friendly and the prices are fair.
