They have remodeled the restaurant since the last time I've visited... such a nice upgrade ;) Keep in mind, Chili Square is CASH ONLY so make sure to have some cash on you. There used to be a Bank of America ATM right across the street but it seems like it is no longer there unfortunately. Their biang biang noodles are fire & you really can't go wrong with getting the dry version or with soup. Honestly, this has been my favorite spot to get noodles lately. Last week, I literally went here almosevery day for dinner (I wish I was kidding). My favorite dishes to order from here include: - Cumin Lamb Biang Biang Noodles - Cumin Lamb Biang Biang Noodle Soup - Fish Filet with Chili Pepper - Chongching Chicken with Chili Pepper Visually, the dishes don't look like generous portions but actually they're quite filling! The cumin lamb Biang Biang noodles (w/o soup) is generally my go-to because it's SO FLAVORFUL. The lamb is cooked well & doesn't taste gamey at all. It's a tad spicy but won't kill you hahaha. They do have another version of this dish that comes with soup & it's a great option if you're feeling a soup. This also has amazing flavor but of course, not as flavorful as the dry version since it comes with soup. I highly recommend getting the fish filet with chili peppers if you love a fried fish! They make it incredibly crispy without making the fish taste dry. This is perfect with a bowl of rice. Now, the chongching chicken wings have to be the spiciest dish out of my favorites. This is a great snack! I usually get this to share if I'm eating here with a group or if I'm getting takeout, I'll get this as an entree.The pieces are crispy, spicy, and juicy. The Yelp reviews here were good and I received a recommendation from my cousin who lives locally. When I arrived, there were 2 tables filled and another 2 or 3 empty. The space is not big, but it is clean and modest. I ordered the lamb biang biang noodles which seems to be one of their signature dishes, and the luo si fen snail noodles. The Luo Si Fen was very bland and lacked flavor. It was also not spicy although we asked for extra spicy on both orders. The lamb biang biang noodles, while not spicy, was very savory and flavorful. My boyfriend and I devoured the lamb biang biang noodles and recommend definitely ordering this if you come! Food came out quickly and service was also quick. This place is a nice place to grab a quick bite at decent prices -- I would not recommend ordering dishes that are not their signature (also do not recommend if you love spicy food and are looking for true spicy food.), but if going the recommended dish route, would recommend stopping by here! Food: it was amazing strong and flavorful spice with nicely cooked noodles. Definitely gives the "this is some real Chinese cuisine" feel. Both the noodle soup and regular "dry" noodles had a great taste that doesn't go into the "too much going on" territory. I had 3 dishes here but will definitely go back to try others. Water is self-serve from a container near the register. Service: is ok. You'll get served eventually. I'm definitely here more for the food than service. It's a little confusing because the menu took a bit to come out to the table, so I didn't know if there was some other process. There's a QR code on the table but it looked more like delivery and was pretty much all in Chinese (don't know which one). Ambiance: chill spot. It's small, nothing fancy at all, but still clean. The chili oil packs so much flavor, and I appreciate the cabbage too. I would prefer the chicken to be white over dark meat, but that's okay. Overall my go-to dish the three times that I've been here. We also decided to try the spicy cumin lamb burger during one of our visits. 3/5 as it was pretty dry, and the flavor was lacking for me. My favorite was the beef noodle soup. It was absolutely delicious. The Korean fried chicken was good as well. Can someone please explain to me why this place accepts "cash only" despite the fact that it obviously is capable of doing online ordering and delivery, for example, at least through the modern system's ChowBus? I can't think of any reason other than tax fraud or at least an attempt thereof... We did ask them whether they would consider taking Venmo or other form of money transfer, but it insisted we walk through the rain to find an ATM to get cash. This took off one star. I came here after experiencing a delicious LanZhou Beef Noodle bowl at a highly rated restaurant in Montreal (see my other review). The beef noodle soup had nice flavor, The biangbiang noodles were good but not my favorite, and the chicken (bone, skin on) was quite tender with good flavor. The spicy fish fillet was huge and had a good amount of fish, but one of the fillets seemed a bit undercooked... Cucumbers cooked in the spicy broth was also an interesting choice. The chongqing chicken was coated in chili powder, which I didn't enjoy so much, and didn't have much savory flavor. Just a few things up front: they are cash only (there's a Bank of America ATM across the intersection in case you don't have cash) and the restaurant itself is very small and no frills. You go in and order with the hostess/waitress at the back. You'll seat yourself and your food will be brought to you. There's self-serve water at the back as well. This is a very Chinese place in that I think all the patrons and the hostess primarily spoke Chinese, but by no means is it required. The widespread Chinese only confirms its authenticity. We came in on a weekend afternoon and there was enough seating for the two of us, but I can see how it could get really busy during rush hours. I'd recommend coming at an off hour or ordering delivery/takeout for the best experience. Now on to the food! We got a spicy lamb biang biang noodle, Lanzhou beef noodle soup, spicy fried fish, and scallion pancakes. All the dishes were A+. I'd give it about 4.5 stars, because with two entrees and one appetizer came out to be about $45. And frankly, I was still a little hungry after. While I agree with most people who give this place one-star that the portion size is small, I do have to say that the quality is amazing.
