Canton House is exactly what you want for Americanized Chinese take out, comfort food, friendly staff, and ready quick! As a self described dumpling enthusiast, I can say their peking raviolis some of my favorite. The appetizers are where Canton House truly shines: chicken fingers, teriyaki, spar ribs, rangoons, etc. When it comes to their mains, the stir fry and lo mein dishes are decent. I'd recommend skipping the fried rice. Canton House is one of my reliable comfort food go-tos. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE service from management. My 1st and last time ordering from there. The Manager was so rude even when I asked her how could we resolve the matter since I ordered only tofu and Shrimp (I am Highly allergic to), Pork & some other meat (I dont even eat meat) was in the food. She said I should have said without all of those items, even though I asked 2x Only Tofu Nothing Else. Nothing not even egg. The management said its my fault because thats the way it comes with meat Yet when I called and ask if I may only have Tofu in it, NOTHING ELSE, the lady said yes Nothing else. Thats one thing but after talking to the manager who came on the phone with such an attitude ready to defend and said come by tomorrow maybe to refund. I took an uber there and back to get my money refunded The manager said we'll we can refund you because your card wasn't charged after waiting 4 minutes for her to find the log of the transaction. I said lady I paid cash and my Uber is waiting. Finally she refunded my money. Mistakes happen Bad Attitudes and HORRIBLE customer service is another. How you treat people matters. Don't work with the public if you don't know how to treat people with respect and kindness consideration and every situation is not the same .and every customer isn't trying to get over. My go-to takeout spot for Chinese food in Dorchester, much better than other Chinese spots I've tried in the neighborhood. The food is not too greasy, the portions are generous and the service is quick. Definitely recommend their crab rangoon, fried shrimp and pad thai! The pad thai is not on their online menu, but it's advertised inside the restaurant when you walk in - so I usually call to place my order noe instead of ordering online to get these off-menu items. read more

If it wasn't for my daughter's insistence, I probably would not have given them another shot. Veggie and pork fried rice had excellent texture, flavor, and fluff. Very fresh tasting like it was just made and not sitting around all day getting sour. Egg foo Yong- amazing fresh taste, gravy also very good although a bit watery Crab Rangoon - crispy and yummy however looked like it had freezer burn Wings were tasty, crispy on the outside yet, a tad undercooked and also had freezer burn. All in all shout out to Canton House for having the best Chinese rice in Boston and for getting their act together and coming back into my life after I banished them for many years due to inspection concerns. read more

Do not eat at this restaurant!! I live next door. It has rats and roaches! I ate here when I first moved in and looked it up on yelp to see the reviews; I was like, I live next door; I don't see any roaches!!! BUT little did I know, was a wave about to hit me! But, back to the food if the cockroaches and rats aren't a deterrent for your taste buds. The food is disgusting! I ate here once! NEVER AGAIN, THERE WAS HAIR IN MY FOOD, and the rice was extremely dry. I ordered an egg roll and couldn't make out the ingredients. It didn't match what was on the menu item. It seemed like it was just filled with a medley of items from their food or veggie scraps. My favorite chinese restaurant in boston since I was a teen and would stop in here after school to get a white rice and lobster sauce with bread for dipping. A decade and some change later and this is still the GOAT. I've experienced plenty of other places, of course, but Canton House is always my first choice. Boston has horrendous Chinese takeout places as a general rule. This one decidedly does not fit the stereotype. As is typical of businesses of this nature, the help isn't very helpful, but when you do receive your food, you'll be pleased with the result. Fried rice and spareribs are the usual take when my buddy and I go here. Great choices. I also love their apparently homemade duck sauce, which is a wonderfully sweet dipping sauce for those ribs. -1 star because we once showed up at like 11:30 AM on a Sunday, and for some reason the guy simply refused to serve us. Some completely non-English speaking man was at the counter, and no matter how loudly we yelled "FRIED RICE!!!" at him, he just stood there and shook his head in terror/confusion/uselessness. You know that greasy, nasty, Chinese food joint that makes you question how clean they are and makes you wonder if any critters got into your egg foo yung? Yup this is that place! My sister swears over the years they have gotten better and actually have good food to eat.... but Just like the Chinese food I often question my sister as well. Well... This is THAT PLACE! I've tried it many times over and every darn time I am upset with myself and end up throwing the food away because my dog won't even touch it. I know I know shame on me for trying to feed the dog this food its not worthy and he usually eats organic. I discovered the Canton House on Yelp and called for a delivery. The guy on the phone was very nice and professional and very helpful and patient with me since I didn't have a menu when ordering. The food arrived pretty fast, 30min or so (delivery guy kinda weird) and I must say I was again very very satisfied. The food was a-touch greasy (no biggie) but it was very flavorful , I could actually taste all the individual flavors from the different dishes, even the different dipping sauces where really good. It's wasn't a one note experience, finally, sigh.. The food and service is far far better than most Chinese food restaurants in the surrounding area and they will defiantly be my go to Chinese restaurant from now on. read more

Reviews like some of these make me despair of using Yelp ratings as any sort of reliable gauge of restaurant quality. I have lived around the corner from Canton House for some 25 years now, years in which I've scoured the length and breadth of Dorchester for decent Chinese food (and trust me, I take my food, Chinese or otherwise, VERY seriously). Please believe me when I tell you that, even by abysmal Dorchester caters-to-late-night-fried-rice-and-crab-rangoon standards, this place is dreadful. So dreadful that, even when housebound by illness or weather, I will not walk the one block to patronize it. The food is ghastly by any definition, and is not even that cheap -- there's a place a block away on Dudley that has the same quality [sic] for less. The level of Chinese food offerings in Dorchester is sadly very sub-par -- I used to order take-out from my favorite haunts in Chinatown and then bomb downtown and park illegally to try to snag my food before getting a parking ticket. There were a couple of restaurants in Fields Corner over the years that tried to buck the trend and offer more authentic fare; sadly, neither of them survived (at least, not in the authentic iterations). Mercifully, some years back Chau Chow opened an outpost down on Morrissey Blvd. (Clam Point), so I no longer have to risk a $50 ticket for decent Chinese food. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but they're open late, 365 days a year (that means this cook doesn't have to worry about serving dinner to her family the night before Thanksgiving!), and BONUS -- they serve dim sum on the weekends. There is no reason to eat at the Canton House unless you have no tastebuds and really can't tell the difference. read more

I'm giving this three stars for the crab rangoon, which is awesome. Sometimes you'll have to wait 45 minutes for a pick up order. One day I ordered the chicken lo mein and it was pretty good. I ordered it a couple of weeks later and the chicken had the texture of hard rice mashed together. The meal seemed like it came out of a can. It was a drastic drop in quality in such a short time. I love this place and prefer to go here whenever I crave chinese food. They have an open kitchen so you can watch them cook your food if you order inside. It normally takes about 5-10 minutes to prepare your food. Prices are decent and the have lunch specials. I usually the house special fried rice (white) and the chicken terrakyi. Their terrakyi are a good portion of chicken and they are great. Their crab ragoon are not the best I tasted, but its ok. read more
