Nope. Never again. We came in for brunch and ordered the Christmas Tree to split and a side of macaroni and cheese. Service was slow to take our orders, we were never offered drink or water refills, when we finally did receive food we had no utensils so another table gave us some of theirs, and we waited over 40 minutes for our food while several tables who came in later were served before us. Honestly, I can look past all of that although a "Sorry for the wait!" would have gone a long way. What really changed my opinion of this place for good was the food safety. Our dishes were served to another table in error who had them for several minutes before being re-served to us. That is completely unacceptable. You don't re-serve food once it's been delivered. That's food safety 101. When we were checking out, another woman (not our server, maybe a manager?) asked how everything was and I told her I was uncomfortable with the re-serving of food. Our server was there and said that she had set the plates down for just a second before she realized and brought them to us. So, she straight up lied. To us and the other server/manager. She didn't realize her mistake at all. The other table had to flag her down and let her know it was the wrong order, her response was "Oh, you didn't order the Christmas Tree?" After a couple years, we visited the New Mexicans again last night and it was such a happy and delicious moment. We missed this awesome place so much and it was a bonus to have managed to drop in during Saturday Happy Hour! We enjoyed margaritas, chips, guacamole, salsa, a carne asada burrito with half and half sauce plus a smoked chicken enchilada and sopapillas. Everything was so amazing and I love that the sopas are legit pillows of dough vs deep fried tortillas. I haven't had them like this since visiting Albuquerque! Excellent stop Always!! Great food, drink and oh the cinnamon rolls (plate size at that). This stop we had the Baby Back Ribs and the Green Enchiladas with pork. All cooked to perfection. Sides with the ribs we had were baked beans (nice little flavor kick to the sauce) and a delicious crunchy cole slaw. The pinto beans with the enchiladas had very good flavor also. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Took the cinnamon roll home to split between 4 of us adults there - these are a hit in flavor, texture and size. Prices are very good. 1 never leaves here hungry. I used to love their smoked chicken enchilada. I was there yesterday and ordered just that. While it was much bigger than back a long time ago, it just wasn't nearly as good. It was bland, and although I only ate about 1/3 of it, I ended up pulling a couple of bones out of my mouth. One small enough it could have been swallowed and the other about 2". My husband ate the remainder and there were more bones. Probably won't get that again. I hope for a better experience the next time. read more

Yum! I've definitely enjoyed tacos and margaritas here after work, but my favorite meal to come for is BRUNCH! I typically agonize over the menu for several minutes before ultimately settling on the same thing yet again: the chicken fried steak. And I never have ANY regrets. It's a huge serving of deliciousness, topped off with gravy. Add a giant mimosa. You will not be hungry for the rest of the day GUARANTEED. I've stolen bites of my children's pancakes and French toast, and those are also top notch. So, we've been talking about trying this place for months. The wife had an appointment in the area, so we thought tonight was as good of night as any to give it a whirl. As we walked in we were imediatly greeted by the owner. She mentioned that they were closed today, but open for a fund raiser for her son that past away 11 years ago. Menu was very limited but found a few things that could fill our bellies. We ordered the carne asada burrito and and smoked chicken enchilada. They were both delicious. As a New Mexican, I was so excited to see this place in Everett. I only stopped in for the giant cinnamon rolls and a coffee on a cold Sunday morning. I saw green chile stew go by and it was legit. We dine out often. Enormous portions aren't really our gig, I'd much rather have amazing food over quantity. We waited 45 minutes to get our meals. It was over 20 minutes after being seated to get water, drinks, & menu's. We had a reservation or I'd of walked out. There is no waiting area so anyone hoping for a seat stands at the door & stares at you. The service was very friendly but as other reviews mention, you can see the disorganization in the logistics of who does what. As for my food, there was so much cumin in my carne Asada burrito that I didn't enjoy it at all. The margaritas were good, they don't offer a blended version (bummer) which I prefer. We probably will not eat here again because there are so many other good Mexican restaurants we prefer. read more

We had tacos and a taco casserole of sorts. The the taco casserole was right up my alley although it s the type of food you can only eat a bit of before filing up. I call it heavy food! The hospitality was unparallel. The drinks were flowing and it was just a great time! Fun and unique place to have a rehearsal dinner!!! My family has found our new favorite restaurant! The decor was warm, cute and filled with New Mexico trinkets. The margaritas were so good I had 2!!! The kids menu choices were the perfect size for my kids and plated nicely. My taco salad was great and sooo spicy! My husband had the enchiladas and loved them. So I went on an afternoon that it wasn't that busy I literally walked in and was seated within minutes. They clean the table in front of me everybody had masks on. I just had a glass of water to drink. The ordering part was the longest. It took about 15 minutes to have the waitress realize that I hadn't even been helped yet. I had the pulled pork sandwich with fries and a side bowl of posole. Seem like forever before I got my food. When it came the sandwich was on a different plate then the fries. I had to prop my plate up so that all the liquid from the sandwich could drain down and not make the bun soggy. They also served the posole with the sandwich which I had made it clear that I wanted it as a starter. When the posole came it was more like a chunky thick Denton stew straight out of the can. I grew up in Colorado and New Mexico and have never seen Posole as thick as that oh did I mention I actually cook posole myself so I know better. The sandwich itself wasn't that great. When the waitress saw that I had hardly touched my Cup of posole she actually took it off my bill. I took the rest of my sandwich and some fries in a go container. When I got to the next stop in my itinerary I threw it all in the trash because I knew I wasn't going to eat it. Such a shame I had high hopes for this restaurant reading all the good reviews. A truly horrible food experience. You will leave feeling 10lbs heavier & confident that everything you just put in your body was terrible for you - to add insult to injury, it doesn't even taste good. You can't just throw stale chips in the deep fried over and over again to give them new life. Dense, greasy, gross. The "queso" tastes like melted velveeta & a can of tomatoes. The green chili stew was like Campbell's beef stew + 3 chilis + a couple spoonfuls of salsa. The enchilada was inedible (and came with a side of pinto beans, no seasoning, just open the can, microwave, put on a plate). The server neglected to inform me that making it a chicken enchilada instead of just congealed cheese would almost double the price. $5 enchilada + $4 for a couple mouthfuls of chicken. The food was like a cringy cooking show challenge: can you make "Mexican" food from fall out shelter ingredients with a 20+ year shelf life? You can, but why would you want to? We left our food almost completely untouched, sever didn't ask how our meal was - I wouldn't either. The only positive is their cornbread was surprisingly delicious. I heard someone raving about their desserts. Maybe they should reopen as a bakery because they should absolutely throw in the towel as a restaurant. read more

My cousin came into town and we all decided to come here for breakfast today. My husband and my cousin split a breakfast burrito and I ordered the Loco Moco with a hamburger bacon patty. When I received my plate I noticed there was blood streaming down my gravy. I cut into my burger and it was completely raw and bloody. I showed the waitress and she took it back. My husband and cousin ate all their food by the time mine was delivered again. Barely any gravy and it was soooo sweet I could barely eat it. I've had it in the past and it was delicious. Completely unsatisfied this time. I've had loco moco at other places and it's usually served with brown gravy or a gravy that isn't so sweet. Some notes here: is everything here perfect? Nah. Is it great and enjoyable? Yup. First: their guacamole game is STRONG. Easily the best guacamole I've had at a restaurant - it's chunky, because dammit soupy guac is for people who pronounce it (Gwak-a-mo-lee), has a balanced acidity from limes, onion and tomato for a little sweetness, and perfectly seasoned. Served with flour tortilla chips. Excellent. Reminds me of my family's recipe. Second: their brisket is super good. I just got back from a trip to Kansas City and was told I had to have BBQ there and the brisket sandwich was miles better than anything I had in KCMO. It is well smoked, a touch of chile, and sauced perfectly. The brisket is tender with just enough bite to remind you you're eating meat, and served on a soft house made bun. Third: their enchiladas are pretty good. I had two red enchiladas with two sunny side up eggs (holy crap, perfectly cooked. I'm not sure I've had a more perfectly cooked sunny side up egg. No browning on the bottom and perfect yolks. No joke). This dish was a bit off balanced and bland- it was mostly that smoky sort of chile spicy you find in meh chipotle. I got medium heat which was just the right amount of spicy to feel the heat but to still be able to appreciate the flavors. I actually had to ask for some limes to add some acidity to the dish, which significantly improved it. Shoutout to the server who was inundated with a full lobby and was crushing it by herself for getting me some lime wedges and keeping us well taken care of. Fourth: kid friendly in a nice way. We were able to let our kids play on their little stuff next to the faux fireplace and they were relatively well contained. Our kids are super energetic and rambunctious but they were gracious with us. The decor is a little kitschy and such but everything made up for it. The overall tastiness of the food, the freshness of it, the solid cooking skills and service led to a good experience. We'll be back. Also, the Reese's creme pie is so damn good. Took some home for later but holy biscuits, Batman, it's so tasty. My one complaint - the pride in hatch chiles is everywhere and I can't get a friggin chile relleno? How is this not on the menu?!? Easily one of the best, most chile forward dishes possible, and it's so New Mexican/Eastern Arizonan I can't handle it. That said, I can't be mad at them for a thing they've chosen not to serve, but I really want a well made hatch chile relleno up here (I grew up in hatch chile country, where everyone stands on the side of the road roasting chiles and sells them by the 25lb bag) and walking in, I thought I'd found my spot. Let me preface this by saying, I myself am from New Mexico--that's where I grew up. So I was really excited to try The New Mexicans and get some authentic New Mexican food! I really was not disappointed! A friend and I visited together, and the food was really good. She got a huevos rancheros and I got a red enchilada. The only downside was I had expected a New Mexican red enchilada to be smothered in authentic red chile, but it was not I don't think. Just a typical red enchilada sauce. Not bad, though! I loved the decor and it really made me miss home. The service was very fast and there was plenty of seating inside. The staff were all very kind and we're looking forward to going back again! The restaurant was packed but luckily two seats at the bar opened up when we walked in. FOOD: We placed our order with the waitress. As the food rolled out, there were a lot of issues. Parts of our orders were missing due to the ticket being wrong from the computer. ordered the Green Chile Stew. The flavor was okay but a lot of spice which led me to believe they use real green chiles. The consistency was clumpy almost as if they used corn starch as a thickener. We sat and watched a fly land/take off a few times on uncovered cinnamon rolls that were sitting how for an unknown amount of time. SERVICE: Our actual service was fine but sitting there for 45 minutes watching the inefficiencies and lack of leadership was exhausting. Everyone seemed to do everything. The mushroom soup was so delicious and I thinks it's scratch made. I have been going to the New Mexican since they opened. I love the new owner and how she is so nice and treats everyone with joy. What I am concerned with his the pozole. 2 months ago I ordered the pozole it had no flavor, or pork, no hominy, just broth. I got the attention of the mgr and he replaced it quickly and sent me home with a goodly potion. he explained it was not stirred and the only took off of the top of the soup vat. What I tasted when I got home was bland flavor water but with bits of pork and hominy. Yesterday I ordered the pozole again and once again there was just the broth. Maybe the cook should taste what they are serving and add salt and flavoring accordingly because that pozole broth tasted like water. This was a bit of a surprise going through Everett a month or so ago. Really delicious enchiladas with red Chile sauce and tasty, albeit greasy chips. While I am not the biggest fan of Pico De Gallo, this one was really flavorful, as was the guacamole. It's not Mexican food, it's New Mexican food, and while the owner definitely has flair (some reviews said attitude ) I found the owner to be really nice, unlike a place I went to in New Jersey where I never even made it to the table. read more

The New Mexicans is a different kind of place and that is mostly a good thing. It isn't really a New Mexican restaurant though it does feature some new mexican dishes. The menu lists enchiladas, chicken and dumplings, BBQ sandwiches, hamburger, and hot dogs. It seems like the restaurant theme is just the best dishes from the kitchen of some one who grew up in New Mexico. We ordered: sopapillas, green enchiladas, red enchiladas, chicken and dumplings, and wilted lettuce. We started with the wilted lettuce. It is one of my favorites from child hood. Here, they combined mustard with bacon and put it over lettuce. My dish from child hood was red wine vinegar and bacon over lettuce. I was left wanting something different but it could just be due to the bias of my grandma's terrific wilted lettuce from years ago. The sopapillas were terrific. The honey butter was terrific on their delicious fried crust. The enchiladas answered the age old question: "red or green." The green enchiladas are notably better than the red. The chiles and cheese were pefectly balanced in the green enchiladas. The red enchiladas were fine but nothing really stood out with them. The chicken and dumplings were in a white gravy-like broth. The suace was thick and pretty good but the dish could use some more seasoning. This place is a do over. It's fun and different. read more

AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS! The lone star is for the waitress that helped us. And that's it. If I could give zero stars for the food I would! First let me start by saying this was my first time here, and my girlfriends first time. The decor is ok, seems Southwest enough. We ordered two "scratch" margaritas because it was happy hour. I use the word scratch loosely. The mix seemed old, or...something. It was off. We took this as a one off, and continued to order. She ordered the smoked chicken enchilada and I ordered the Christmas tree with carne asada. The Christmas tree is supposed to be two red sauce enchilada and one green sauce enchilada topped with two eggs. Then you get to choose your own sauce (that they make from scratch apparently). I chose the hottest version sauce called New Mexico sauce. The plates come out and her plate is loaded with a massive enchilada topped with cheese, a promising sign! Mine comes out with....idk how to explain it. One enchilada looked normal, the other two looks open face? I thought how odd. The carne asada was cut into very very small cubes and was only about 3 oz of meat, if that. Why was the meat an extra charge for $6? So I tried the Christmas tree. Nothing, I couldn't taste anything. I looked at my girlfriend who had just taken her first bite and I asked her, is yours bland too? She said, all I can taste is the cheese...so we tried a few more bites. I tried a bite of hers, and she tried a bite of mine. Both of us agreed that there was no flavor on anything besides the "hot" sauce. The smoked chicken tasted like it was chicken out of a can. The pinto beans on the side tasted as if they were dumped out of a can, no seasonings either. And the eggs!!! The two sunny side eggs on top of the Christmas tree didn't even have salt or pepper. It was truly the most bland dishes I've ever tasted. We told our waitress that everything was bland and we would just like our check for the drinks. She obliged. Once the check was delivered is where things got interesting. A man came up and asked about the smoke chicken. I said, it was bland and tasted like canned chicken. He said well I'm the owner and it's my best seller and I've never had complaints. I just went back and tasted the sauces and the chicken and it tastes amazing. I said, ok, well it's bland. He then said well it's not for everyone and then promptly turned around and left. How unprofessional! I will literally never visit this awful "restaurant" again. And I plead everyone else to avoid at all costs too. Idk how it has even stayed in business this long if that's the food, and that's the owner. Bullshit. read more
