Just to let you know the waiter was rude from the moment we walked in.So I came into this restaurant with my old friend to have some yummy food and we sat down. My friend asked for a frozen margarita but the waiter in a very rude way said we don't do that here. Whatever. Very rude and upset my friend. We did have plans after this so we were excited to get our food ordered but this waiter decided to ignore us for a good 20 mins before FINALLY taking our order (place was not very busy) and before he did he'd periodically walk by and glare at us. Ridiculous. When we got the food I took a bite of the hatch chilli rellono (I'm bad at spelling) which was NOT advertised as being spicy. But I myself like spicy things so it wouldn't have been an issue except when I took a bite of one of the two and it BURNED. This dish was not supposed to be spicy at all. It was bad and I had to spit it out. Very spicy as in bad. My stomach hurt a lot from the extreme ness. Meanwhile my friend was confused. She ate the whole one she had been eating then went on to finish mine thinking I was crazy for my reaction. She took a bite and was surprised very much by the spiciness!!!! Her stomach hurt a lot too. So for some reason there was a hot spot. Sabatoge? I'm not against it as when the waiter came back and we told him the story he didn't look shocked at all and even hid a laugh. HORRIBLE. But the non spicy one was good said my friend. I'll never know. This has been bookmarked for a while and the only regret I have is that I didn't get here sooner. This food is terrific, the vibe is hilarious, the servers are downright fantastic. Andrew (our server) introduced us to his sidekick, who was in training. Love that personal, hands on approach for a mew team member, and Sidekick did a great job in monitoring our table and replenishing water. Have to stop here and express my appreciation for Andrew and how he took the time to explain the philosophy and genuine team vibe of the restaurant. Oftentimes when a restaurant adds a flat 20% gratuity, you get the feeling this is not passed on to the servers. Not so here. He explained that it's shared among the servers, bar, and other staff, with only a bit retained by management, but even that finds its way into their wages. Terrific work environment and happy to see it. It definitely shows in the level of service. But we're here to eat. Didn't take a picture, but one of my dining companions ordered the burrito with red chili sauce and it was very good. Just the right amount of heat in the sauce. The Cantina celebrates Taco Tuesday, so I took advantage of this. You get the opportunity to try 5 different street tacos for the low price of $15. For another $4 you order it fully loaded which is a steal (guac, pickled onions, lettuce, giardano, crema, and another lovely sauce). Each of the tacos were really delicious and packed full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower and the beef. Was surprised how much I liked the popcorn chicken - still juicy and not greasy in the least. Andrew treated us to a round of the hatch green chili. I was delighted because it was a dish I wanted to try. He described it perfectly: a little kick, but you can't stop eating it. He was right. A bowl of this in the winter with their cornbread (which I'm confident will be delicious) will preempt a winter cold. The sauces on the table are not to be ignored either. The green chili sauce was fruity with a little heat, the scorpion chili brings the heat, but their homemade chili oil is phenomenal. I could put this on everything. In short, the Cantina delivers. Hatch Cantina has the bones of a good spot. Food was good, ambience was good, and the space actually looks great. Then the service came in and stepped on the whole thing. The restaurant was basically empty and they still tried to sit us by the door. Why? If you have the nice sections open, use them for the people who bothered to show up. Our server barely knew the menu, put the order into Toast wrong, disappeared after taking it, never checked back, and never came around to close us out. Then somehow a table for two ended up being charged for three dishes. I only caught that mistake myself after I had already paid, that's when I also discovered there was an auto-gratuity too. Nobody mentioned it. Ever. The whole experience had that very specific auto-gratuity energy: "tip secured, mission accomplished." Good food deserves better service than this. Auto-gratuity is supposed to protect staff, not turn hospitality into a self-checkout lane with cocktails. read more

I was traveling in Seattle and had a taste for Mexican food and this beautiful quaint upscale restaurant was having happy hour! The menu was inviting and the happy hour prices were making me do a happy dance. I tried a little of everything their ribs were succulent and seasoned well, the popcorn chicken was juicy and had a perfectly fried seasoned crispy crust. I would give them both an 8 out of 10. Their queso fondito was disappointing not much flavor I would not recommend ordering it. The star of the show were their Happy Hour Tacos!!! I had the steak tacos and they were everything you want in a taco. A perfect bite, juicy, flavorful, and tender. They also provided three different types of sauces that elevated the taco to another level. Hands down the taco is a 10 out of 10!!! I do not recommend this place at all. My husband and I walked 15 minutes from our hotel to go to this place because it had good reviews and the food sounded yummy. We walk in and the hostess didn't even smile at us and seem annoyed we were even there. She asked how many and we said 2 and she said we had to wait a bit so they could clean off a table. So we waited a few minutes and then she took us back to a table. Again, no manners or hospitality and just said here's your table your serve will be with you shortly. We sit there for 5 minutes before anyone acknowledges us. Out serve finally comes up and asks if we'd like anything else to drink and we said no and asked if we could have a more minutes with the menu. 15-20 minutes go by and our server walks past our table multiple times not acknowledging us or taking our order. So, at those points we're hungry and tired so we decide to just get up and leave. Extremely disappointed in the lack of service, professionalism and hospitality here. I went here on invitation of their holiday event which featured free food (taco bar) with drinks for purchase. This review lightly touches on the free food (not part of the rating) while emphasizing on the drinks which I purchased. As for the food, they had carnitas, rice, beans, enchiladas, fries, chips, salsa, and a variety of baked goods which are pretty good but definitely not at the level of true restaurant quality food as they pump out a large quantity of food to serve the crowd. The drinks we got were the Hot and Bothered Margarita and the Coquito. The margarita felt a bit watered down but still had the alcohol strength, with a very faint spicy kick. The tajin rim was extremely salty. I would skip this one. However, the Coquito was very good - sweet and creamy, and they said they had no eggnog in it but it tasted very much like eggnog! Caught Hatch for HH and it was really pleasant! We came here on Sunday at like 5 and it was pretty quiet - to be expected. We were freaking ravenous and needed a drink however and their happy hour didn't disappoint. We got the birria, 3 tacos, popcorn chicken, Crunchwrap, and two prickly pear margs. It was solid HH food- not extremely mindblowing but very satisfying! In the end the total came out to 80 bucks (22% gratuity is automatically added). Seating was comfortable for some in our party, depending on whether seated in a chair or on the bench side of the table for 6 and thus requiring scooting to the middle spot. Food was great, but the service wasn't. I'm not a fan of restaurants that automatically add gratuity it often feels like the effort drops, and unfortunately that was the case for us. Our server Samantha seemed disengaged, and the experience didn't match the quality of the food. It was not even a busy night, their were maybe 5 other tables in the restaurant. Came for brunch on a Saturday and there was no wait at all! The food was served pretty fast too, and the servers were cool. Everything came with a really large portion of food and we took home leftovers for each of our items. The black coffee was also pretty good. Not sure if it's bottomless though, as I didn't ask for a refill. They only serve the brunch menu on the weekends (until 3pm I believe). 1) Chips and salsa 5/5: Loved the flavor of the salsa, definitely had a kick to it. The corncakes had a texture that resembled a fusion of cornbread and pancakes. There was a slight acidic flavor to it that I didn't really enjoy, not sure if it was from the chiles. The popcorn chicken was totally bland and flavorless, so you definitely need to dip it in salsa or ketchup. 3) Breakfast burrito with green salsa 3/5: Tasty fillings, but the salsa smothered on top was sort of congealed and thick... Overall, I found Hatch to be a great weekend brunch spot, especially for large groups. You can make reservations and it wasn't too busy to begin with. We'd come in fairly late on a whim, having been at a couple of other bars in Belltown. We happened to get there just in time for their late night Happy Hour (starts at 9). We ordered the Chips and Salsa with Guacamole and their Queso Fondito and a bunch of chips, plus two drinks (since we'd be drinking ciders, we ordered ciders). The food was decent, but not stellar. I've had better guacamole. But we were hungry and polished it all off! The staff was exceptional. We were seated with a smile and tended two the whole time. There was a lot of good-natured ribbing between our server and us, which really added to the pleasantness of the night. They had a one-person band playing that night, and he was amazing. He could imitate just about anyone. We asked him to sing Alanis Morisette, and he sang "You Oughta Know" without missing a beat. And OMG, it was perfect! The servers were super kind and the food and drinks came out quick. My boyfriend ordered a house margarita and I got a michelada. Both were fantastic, the marg was strong and the michelada was super flavorful. We shared the Queso Fundido and some Carnitas Tacos and both were fantastic. Everything came out hot, fresh, well seasoned, and super quick. I have to give a special shoutout to the rice that came with the tacos. I typically don't touch the rice that comes with my taco orders, but we ate every bite of it. I can't speak to the food (I'd already eaten), but walking around Belltown looking for a drink and a seat, Hatch called to me. I get in and the bartender is friendly and welcoming (and also the host, at this point!). He asks if he can help and I say no. Then I quickly change my kind, looking at the exhaustive menu of margaritas. I ask for a more tart drink and he quickly suggests something, letting me taste sample. The Blood Orange Margarita - it was just tart enough, fresh, and insanely delicious! I order one and it comes in a cute ceramic cup with a special "house salt" that is the best. Went here before a night out for a bachelorette party. The owner brought us all complimentary shots and made small smoothie shots for those of us who don't drink. The tacos were delicious! My one negative is the tortilla chips - it is hard to describe, but they weren't anything special. Some were salted well, some not at all. Some warm, some not. The same bowl of chips was hit-or-miss.
