L Train has single handedly gotten me more "Damn where did you get that from lil bro it looks…read morefire..." than any other clothing store in Manhattan, and on an inflation buster budget. I'm so sick and tired of going into a "vintage" store where T-shirts are $100 and up. It goes against the whole ethos of vintage clothing smh. The whole fun of shopping vintage is coming up on a piece for the low. Shirts at L train are typically between $8-$15, unless they're hanging up on the wall then they will run you ahahaha. They have such a big inventory and wide selection of items that it may get overwhelming, but if you come in here locked in and keep your composure you will come up on something forsure. Go during the week though if possible, it's a ZOO on the weekends you'll be fighting for your life. I have gotten my 3 favorite pairs of jeans here for under $40 total, the velvet suit jacket I'm wearing in the attached pic for $12, some Lebron 3s that have become my outdoor hoop shoes for $40, and more shirts than I can count. L Train is so great, in fact, that it has almost become cool to hate on. If you're lowkey insecure about your homie having a better fit on than you, you try to get ahead of it and clown him by saying "You hit L Train today, huh?" THANK YOU L TRAIN! PLEASE DON'T SWITCH UP! I'm a bit more selective when I thrift, but I finally found the perfect black turtleneck. I've been trying to replace a specific weight for 5 yrs and I finally found one that isn't too thin nor too heavy. I almost always stay in NoMad or Chelsea when I'm in town and it's is a very easy walk to Buffalo Exchange. Located with a handful of thrift stores in a row, it's a good area to hit up if you like thrifting. Service was very friendly. I'm glad it's becoming more popular. It's good for the earth. Way too many clothes end up in dumps. So resell and reuse, people.

The over 50 year old Buffalo Exchange, with their "buy/sell/trade" business model, originated in Tuscon, for some reason reminds me shopping at Burlington, with out the obnoxiously slow lines. Perhaps it was their clearly not used, impulse gifts that are sprinked around the store... or perhaps it was their rack of ugly Christmas sweater or new looking synthetic cowskin boots. Nope, nope and nope. To me, it just didn't feel like there was any vintage style, which I was expecting. Then again, maybe I"m not their demographic for their "fashion."

Visited today on Easter. Love my finds. It was my first trip to the area. Strolling by on a rainy…read moreday. So beautifully organized and so many discerning selections. All were carefully curated and displayed. My only dismay was not being aware of the important work the shop does as a non-profit before I randomly popped in as I was enjoying a stroll for some "me" time during a busy family trip. The woman with glasses, who I assume was the "manager/owner", was very passive aggressive with me and came off disrespectful and unwelcoming. I overheard her negotiating pricing on some items with other customers and when I was ready with my two vintage cameras (to be used for decor/props) and one pretty beat up purse (all totaling $75 w/o tax), I inquired if they were willing to do $70 for all. I wasn't sure what taxes the city/state charged so I wanted to be sure had enough on my card (a visa gift card a friend gave me when I was diagnosed with cancer) to cover the taxes. She loudly and obnoxiously replied "NO. WE DON'T HAGGLE HERE". I found it repulsive and aggressive when I had been so overly kind and impressed with the shop during my visit. It certainly caught me off guard. Especially after hearing her indeed "negotiate" pricing with other guests. She didn't even make eye contact with me but made sure to speak her words loud enough to try to embarrass me. I was not embarrassed, rather appalled and disgusted. So much so that I recalled other travelers from my party and told them not to come down to the shop. On the other hand, the two male clerks working with me were so kind, lovely and helpful during my visit. Kudos to them for staying pleasant and gracious in that moment that was intended for ugliness. While the encounter at the very end of my trip soured my visit, I would still encourage others to go and I will likely be back again next time. After visiting their website trying to figure out what I did wrong, I see that the work they do is impactful.
