Outstanding experience. Lunch on a Saturday. Everything we tried was well thought out and delicious. Smoked Prime Rib French Dip... five of the most beautiful words I've ever heard strung together. And it was everything I wanted it to be. Slider trio was amazing, and my son got a smash burger that left him speechless for 20 minutes. Try the fried mashed potato balls appetizer, have a drink and enjoy. The staff is friendly and the vibe is cozy and quiet, but not stuffy. Traveling to Pa, I had to stop in Massillon to charge my EV. So naturally I wanted to see what the area offers food wise. The Nook was highly recommended so off we go. I came about noon and it was fairly busy but I love sitting at the bar which was empty. The lady makes a few suggestions since they are primarily a smokehouse, and I decide on a trio of Smoked sliders- brisket, chicken and pork. Add to that Sauerkraut balls with dill sauce and Sweet potato cubes with a cinnamon butter. Everything comes out in a reasonable amount of time and OMG! The sliders are served on Potato rolls (YUM) and she gives me one of each BBQ sauce (regular, sweet and spicy). The brisket was hands down the best I've had, and that's comparing it to the best BBQ place I visited in Houston TX. Juicy, Smokey and just downright flavor filled. I polished off the brisket and tried the Sauerkraut balls next. Not sure what all is in them but I was loving it. The dill sauce to dip was a bonus. The pulled pork and chicken sliders were amazing and had the right amount of smoke, not overpowering. The baked Sweet Potato cubes were soft and also flavorful. This was really a great choice all the way around. I even had a Lemon Shandy instead of my usual IPA. This was a lot of food. The sliders were deceptively filling. I was down to 2 Sauerkraut balls and had to stop for fear of food induced coma. I still had 1 1/2 hours to my destination. This is one of those places that you hope to find when traveling. We wanted to try something new and different, so we gave the Nook Smokehouse a try. The location was very rural and the parking lot conditions could have been better as the potholes could lose a car. As we entered we were warmly greeted and were asked if we wanted a high top table or regular table. We requested a regular table and had to wait around 10 minutes or so. Oddly the bar had lots of people at it but there were no televisions. There were TV's all over but not at the bar. After being seated we were greeted by our server who got down at our eye level and took our drink orders Ice tea and a Blue Moon beer. We told him that it was our first time and asked what we should try. My wife loved her Nook Smokehouse Platter Sampler (Medium) and I tried the Prime Rib which was just okay. The smoky flavor was just different for me. The Brussel Sprouts were a little undercooked. My baked sweet potato was caramelized and very good. The food also came out so quickly. The food was incredible! We had a group of 20 and the waitress got pretty jumbled up between apps and dinner but it ended up being okay. The only issue was someone got prime-rib and it came out super well done. The waitress suggested she could get something different (even a ribeye) and when the bill came, she had to pay for both dishes but the manager took off $16. I don't know why you would say someone can get a different cut but make the pay for it. read more

Great hometown BBQ place to get some great grub in a comfortable atmosphere! It was a great stop for Friday evening food and drinks! We started with the tots and pulled pork. We had the fish and smoked prime rib for dinner. The prime rib is an absolute must! Took home a piece of buckeye cheesecake :) I probably wouldn't do the fish again, I thought the batter would be a lighter batter, but it was heavy and not my favorite. The one downside, I wished they'd make their own sauces. My tarter for the fish was in a packet, the horseradish sauce for the prime rib was from a bottle and the mayo was packeted. If the sauces were homemade, it would add a great touch! They also have great artwork displayed that caught our eye and we even got to talk to the artist himself. First time here and I gotta say this is a one of kind experience. The ambience, the food and the service is all on point. Seeing Bruce doing art on an easel as the entertainment and vibe of the place is great. I order the St. Patrick's day special, Smoked Prime Rib with Mash Potatoes, Green Beans, a side of Ajou and creamy horseradish sauce. The skin of the prime was absolutely delicious and it was cooked perfectly as requested. I went with a medium well to be cautious but they cook it exactly how you want it. We were a group of 11 with a reservation on a Friday evening, so we knew it would be busy. Our server was great, but there were definitely some things to be worked out when it came to overall service. We understand that food won't always come out all together with a larger group, but there were a couple of meals that didn't come until everyone else was almost finished eating. And it seemed like it wasn't getting relayed to the kitchen as we had to keep asking the food runners. Also had some issues with drinks coming out, with some coming out without a long wait, and some that were ordered at the same time not being brought, and having to ask multiple times. And it was just glasses of wine, nothing complicated. There was also one drink that wasn't consistent in taste. We were told there were two bartenders, but the ingredients, and amounts of each of those ingredients in a cocktail should be the same as to not taste like a completely different drink. As far as the food, my husband and I each enjoyed different burgers. My husband got the Black & Blue and it was a bit on the dry side, but a great balance of flavors. I got the Smoked burger. It was perfectly cooked, and the flavors outstanding. The fries were very good, but I never got the ketchup I asked for. We agreed that the price point was very reasonable. The four people sitting around us also said they enjoyed their food. Overall, the food was good, and it's a great atmosphere, but I would probably choose a weeknight vs the busy weekends. read more

This building used to be a private event center so I was never sure if it was actually open to the public or not. A friend said it was great and open to the public so we decided it give it a go. First impression was excellent. NOTE: This restaurant also offers catering services via their brand "Up in Smoke BBQ & Catering" and will even do whole hog pig roasts. I will update this review after trying more dishes, but the prime rib was INCREDIBLE. Huge serving with two horseradish options: creamy or raw. The asparagus side was perfectly cooked, mashed potatoes smooth and creamy. Service was great, environment was clean. I can't wait to go back to try more dishes. read more

Stopped here for lunch while passing through, and can I just say this place is GORGEOUS! However, that being said, it was probably the best thing about this place. I wanted to like it, I really did - but, for starters, the service here was simply mediocre. The waitress seemed disinterested in helping us and didn't know the menu. Also, when we were ready for our check, we had to wait over 20 to even see our waitress to ask for our check and it was early in the day and very slow. We tried 4 of the appetizers on their menu to get a taste of all their options. We had the Pork Tots, Sliders, Soft Pretzels, and Onion Rings. The sliders are all different, with one being pulled pork, one pulled chicken, and one brisket. The Pork tots had pulled pork and smoked cheddar among other things. The soft pretzels and onion rings came with a choice of sauces and they were okay. Honestly, the only reason I gave this place 2 stars is the beautiful decor and the onion rings. The BBQ meat on the sliders tasted heavily of liquid smoke (not real smoke, but the one that comes in the bottle in the spice section of Giant Eagle) but lacked every other seasoning and they must have left those on the plate while the others were being made because the bottom buns were so soggy you couldn't pick them up. The brisket was dry and chewy. The BBQ sauces, they came with - did not help anything either. One of them tasted so much like just black pepper, it literally made me cough. One tasted like the grocery store BWW wing sauce, and the other was a sweeter sauce. The pork tots had the same problem as the sliders- the smoke flavor was just so overwhelming (not in a good way) that it made it hard to eat. The food wasn't cooked and was very dry/bland, they ran out of multiple things and we had to wait just as long if not longer to get our food as we did to get a table. My favorite place in town! Hand cut steaks cooked to perfection. Prime Rib is excellent! Burgers are made with beef they grind themselves, add ghost pepper cheese for a party in your mouth. The ribs are out of this world. Best ribs I've had anywhere! These are smoked for hours, dry rubbed, and fall off the bone, tender. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The bartenders are talkative and make you feel welcome. The pear gin fizz mock-tail is full of flavor, and I appreciate the fact they even have a mock-tail menu. This is the type of place you visit to have a relaxing night out with friends or family. This is not the type of place you go to grab a quick dinner. Made from scratch food takes time. They are always busy and consistently on a wait. Do not enter the building hangry and in a hurry. Expect to wait an hour for your dinner and enjoy a great cocktail or two from the bar while you wait. If you're looking for an eclectic place with a family style hometown feel, this is the place. The front staff are incredibly sweet upon entering the restaurant and seated us promptly. I highly recommend reservations as they do get busy at supper time. Our server was super sweet and took our order in a timely fashion and the food came out quick especially for a Friday evening. Our table got the large charcuterie board which had a beautiful presentation and then we had a sirloin steak, prime rib, fried fish, and ribs and all main course dishes were divine. Cooked to perfection! To finish off the meal I had a piece of their homemade mango jalapeño cheesecake and it was fantastic! So we came out to eat here at the behest of some our friends who frequent The Nook. The outside of building is nice but really just hides the real beauty of the inside of the establishment. We ate on the patio which was beautiful, if you weren't facing the patio. My suggestion for the patio is twofold. Music and fix the weird trash bin odor. Service was excellent. I ordered the ribeye, baked potato and salad. My wife ordered the pull pork meal with bbq baked beans and Mac n cheese. My steak was good but a tad salty for my taste. The salad with homemade Caesar dressing was amazing. Her meal was above average. We ordered a charcuterie board and that was the showstopper.... Amazing. Would come back for that. We also got the caramel cheesecake that is made in the kitchen or the owners home. Very very light and tasty. Will come back again for sure read more

Super busy place, being they are only open a few days a week I've heard. We didn't call ahead, and were told we had a 40 minute wait. Notified after 25 minutes. Pretty good. The wait for your meal is unusually long, but expected with the crowd. Staff was attentive and refilled drinks very timely. My father-in-law ordered a steak, my wife the 1/2 rack of ribs, my son the salmon, and I ordered the brisket dinner. We also took dinner for my other son to go. Total of $125.00 the steak was pricey for the size, but not bad for everything. All BBQ items are loaded with a spicy rub. A bit hot for my liking. The brisket was overdone and dry, but good portions. My brussel sprouts also were covered in the rub. My wife thought the rub on her ribs was too hot as well. I heard the steak was good. May try again for lunch and see if the brisket is better. read more

This was our 3rd visit to the Nook. The service was fine, but we had the dryest meat we've had for a long time. The ribs seemed to be warmed up from a previous cooking and was burned and dried .
