I mean it's Grinders, local institution, everyone around stark county knows it's amazing! Hey the cheesy baked hash browns, and/or anything that's potato bases here- there's nothing they can't do with a potato! Spudniks and cheesy chicken potato skins are a good place to start, after the cheesy baked hash browns of course. I do miss them having crumbled blue cheese- bring it back please, the Cobb salad cries out for it! Tip- order the cheeseburger salad while it's on special! I have tried Grinders a few times but only as a takeout order while working on work orders with my coworkers. Food: Let me first say, that by far the best form of sandwich that is on the menu is their croissant sandwiches. They are huge, buttery and they don't fall apart like you would expect from a croissant. They can be very messy with the assembly of the sandwich though. I am not sure if that is because it's a take-out order and they don't pay as much attention to their neatness as they would with someone eating inside. That's just about every eatery these days though. I also have tried their spinach dip which is DELICIOUS! This is one of my husband's and my favorite date spots! We actually drive 45 minutes one way just to come here. The Canton location has tons of well-lit parking and a large dining room. The restaurant offers daily homemade soup selections that you can preview on their app. The wedding soup and corn chowder are my personal faves. They also have a daily assortment of homemade pies and cakes that are incredible. Try their Tollhouse brownie or make it into a sundae. You won't be disappointed! As for the menu, it is super expansive. They have everything from apps and soups and salads to dinner plates and their signature, grinder sandwiches. We have never had anything bad here. My husband's favorite is the steak and bacon grinder. My go-tos are the cheese sticks, homemade meatballs, sliders, and the old world pizza. Prices are reasonable and service is always good. I absolutely love Grinders. I'd never been to this location but the staff was just as awesome as they are at the other location that we go to. We started with the pita appetizer and ordered extra pita ($6.50) and mixed pita and veggies. It's such a perfect appetizer and great to share with a friend! I ordered my usual, cheeseburger salad and got it with French on the side. There's two sizes for their salads, small or large. The small is huge, I can't even image how big the large must be! Tonight was a night better of staying home! Started with a late time appointment to get my eyes checked! After that the wife and I played "where do you want to eat? " game! She always wants to start driving before we know where we decide to go! I am Yelping and reading off places to go and she keeps saying we passed that or we just ate there recently! Is was our upscale from McD and big nights at Bali Hai! Parking and restaurant packed out for early Friday evening! I was not too hungry so I ordered French onion soup and strawberry walnut salad with chicken! Neither had the great flavors Of best places, but okay otherwise! I started going to Grinders Above & Beyond when it was in Louisville, the only and original. What keeps me going back to Grinders all these years later is that it is consistent. I know what to expect. My husband and I went yesterday to the Whipple location. My favorite salad is the small chopped salad. 5.95. I haven't been able to have salad for a few months due to oral surgery. I ordered the Chopped Salad. I was so disappointed when the server brought it to me. It was mostly large leaf lettuce and cheddar cheese. No egg, tomatoe & no croutons. I asked the server if this was the Chopped Salad and she said Yes. I said it's not chopped though. She said it depends on how much the cook grabs from the bags of lettuce. It sounded like the cook grabs different amounts of lettuce from bags. I'm so very dissapointed in Grinders for not being consistent anymore. read more

I rarely write a negative review but I want to let people know about my experience. I have been to Grinders many times over the past years and always enjoyed my meal. Today we ordered breaded mushrooms as an appetizer. It was delivered to our table with no plates. We waited 10-15 minutes for our waitress to come take our order and I had to ask for plates! For my meal, I ordered the chicken salad grinder. Worst chicken salad ever! The chicken and walnuts were ground into almost a paste- add some mayo and that's what they served as chicken salad. I should sent it back, but scraped a lot of the chicken stuff off my bread and ate that with the tomato slices and lettuce. To be fair, my husband enjoyed his chicken wrap. read more

I have been longtime customer so am really disappointed in changes over last 6 months. The Grinder sandwich has a fraction of the meat you used to serve. The plain cheddar Mac and cheese has been replaced by a Gouda version that is not "good a"! And now the final blow, the classic French onion soup has half the cheese on top! it used to hang down the side of rim, now barely covered top. broth also more diluted, weak, in taste factor. your original was best in town, now this is much less. raise your prices, but don't change the product! read more

It's a very dated looking, sleepy restaurant that's obviously seen better days, like, back in the 90's maybe. I have no idea why they have a full service bar? While known for their Grinders, their soups and salads are truly exceptional! Soup, glorious soup! To me, how a place prepares soup says a lot about them. I've always thought, if you can't make a good soup then stay out of the kitchen! And I can't decide which soup of theirs I love more, the French Onion or the Italian Wedding? Then again, their Chili is something special too. The Key West salad with the creamy coconut Key West dressing...OH.MY.WOW... makes me want to wear flip flops and swing in a hammock between some palm trees! We've been here before but first time check-in. The parking lot was full but no one was waiting and got seated right a way! Our server was friendly but a little rushed. I ordered the seafood combo with cod and shrimp, fries, shaved Brussel sprouts and a salad. The salad was huge for a dinner salad! It had fresh mixed greens with carrots cheese, eggs, tomatoes and croutons. The fish and shrimp were crispy and not greasy. I wasn't quite sure about the brussel sprouts till I added some salt then I liked them! Surprised me! Truthfully, I ate very few fries, not because they weren't good but because I knew I wouldn't be able to finish everything else if I did! I mistakenly said that there were no alcoholic beverages when I checked in. I was wrong. They have added a bar and have beer, wine and mixed drinks. However!! these customers came in asking for food and they said the kitchen was closed. mind you they were behind on making my order and a few people as well. meaning they were still cooking. these people understood and left saying how they were from georgia. for the next 15 minutes associates talked crap and made fun of these people who just wanted food. it could have been done when they left but the workers kept talking rudely about them and laughing at them. We've loved Grinders for literally years, going back to the 1980's at the Louisville location. It's mostly been dependable, clean, with good staff and decent food. I've gone to this location probably monthly over the last year, usually during lunch hour, but last night we went at dinner time. We ordered a small potato skin appetizer, with half cheddar and half provolone, and we split the South West Wrap, both of which we've ordered many times. This time, both were a disappointment. The potato skins are supposed to have cooked crumbled bacon on them. It is usually well done crispy bacon pieces. Last night the pieces of bacon were almost raw, the fatty bits were white and greasy. So we sent them back, and they were remade. The second batch were no better, except the top of the skins had been broiled, so the cheese looked browned, which they never do this way, and the bacon was still mostly raw. The waitress explained it was "new" bacon they hadn't used before. But...being raw doesn't come from using different bacon. It wasn't cooked. It was taken off the bill. Now the Wrap...which according to the menu is "Black angus steak, hand shredded chicken, Monterey Jack and cheddar, black beans, red peppers, corn, rice and chipotle mayo on a flour wrap." Our wrap had no chicken, no black beans, 2 or 3 corn kernels on each side, (we split it), no red peppers, it was just shredded beef, a very little rice, no cheese in evidence, and the mayo, rolled up in the wrap. At that point, we were very hungry, and ate the wrap with no complaint, but wow, what a let down. After the second potato skins were sent back, the waitress said the manager would come over, but that never happened. If a restaurant is having troubling getting some items they need, they should change their menu to reflect it. Had we known the wrap couldn't be made as described, we would have ordered something else. But nothing explains the raw bacon, aside from the fact they were not cooking it before they put it on the potato skins. read more

Steer clear of this restaurant. Horrible service and fair food quality at the Whipple location specifically. We have been doing take out quite a bit since the start of COVID19. I've had to return our food more than once to correct mistakes. I am gluten free. I usually order a salad and remove multiple ingredients and substitute some additional lettuce instead. This week they now say that I will be charged an additional $4.50 for a "side" salad to do this substitution. They've lost my family's business of 3-5 meals an order. We ordered from Rockne's instead and they were more than accommodating and much more courteous and customer friendly. Go elsewhere ! read more

We are new to the area and stopped in to Grinders the other day for dinner. I am so glad we did! We have already been back again because we had such a fabulous experience the first time. If you are a cheese and carb lover like I am, get the spudniks... they are the cheesiest, most delicious "cheese fries" I've ever eaten! Covered in cheddar and provolone with bacon... yum yum yum! The actual grinders are delicious too! The bread is crispy on the outside and nice and soft inside. I recommend the club grinder... I've had it both times and have not regretted it. Wonderful lunch!! We had the best lunch yesterday. We ordered the strawberry feta chicken wrap and it was DELICIOUS! The soup selection was amazing, we couldn't decide on the many great selections but choose the Tomato Florentine soup and it was AMAZING!!! We walked out with a slice (or two) of luscious cherry pie to go! YUM. I have had many varieties but I always recommend any of the luscious variety of pies. Thank you for a delicious lunch! When attempting to modify a salad, they are more than happy to remove products, but to replace the deleted items with some extra lettuce instead, they want charge an additional $4.50 for an additional "side" salad. No other eating establishment in the area has such a practice. You'd think they'd be more accommodating, especially with decreased business during COVID. No problem for us. He also liked the brownie with peanut butter frosting and coconut cream pie. Was here a couple weeks ago with my Mom. We beat the Sunday church crowd (seriously, it was packed at the time when we left). We both had salads and shared an order of potato skins. (I know. They go hand in hand, don't they? Cheesey, bacony, gooey goodness + fresh healthy salads.) I think I like the Grinders in Louisville better, but this one was good too. The service was fantastic. One of my favorite places to go when I visit home! They have a wide variety of menu items-soups, salads, pizza, sandwiches, and entrees. They are know for their grinders. I always get a vanilla coke-taste so much better than from the can! The cheese sticks are good-the Russian dressing is what makes them unique. Finally I order the club croissant. The croissants are always flaky and fresh. Overall I can't complain about the food, it is a great price and always tastes just how I remember it. Our server was great as well-always filling our drinks and checking to see if we needed anything. If you have not tried grinders it is worth a visit! Any place in Canton that can deliver this as my meal is FAB. + side of baked sweet potato + side of low fat cottage cheese + side of grilled veggies + Kendall Jackson Chardonnay The baked potato comes with butter. Brown sugar is optional. It was no problem to leave both out. I was a little worried that the veggies would be greasy, buttery, oily messes but they were dry (yeay!) and so good. Dining companions had salads which looked fresh, although not really innovative, and soups. The French Onion was soooo yummy, I had a bite. This is a casual place, not a date destination, but I love the combo of sides I can get to make a healthy meal! They do not take reservations, but you CAN call in and put your name in. We went here for my dad's 75th Birthday. Big mistake. We were seated at two tables pushed together, one of which had two wings which were not level so half of us had to eat our meal at a 35% angle. We complained and were given the option of two tables but wanted to stay together as the whole point of the evening was to be together. Our poor waitress had several large parties and seemed to be frazzled but unfortunately less than apologetic. Our drinks came 20 minutes after we finished our appetizer and when my mom requested lemon for her water the waitress scolded her and told her she didn't ask for any when she ordered. Our fruit and salads were all brought out on hot plates fresh out of the dishwasher so all of our salads were hot and wilted. We watched the manager check with other tables as to how they were doing but walked past us several times and avoided eye contact each time, as he knew we were already unimpressed with our makeshift table. Things could have been easily corrected with an ounce of effort or customer service. Unfortunately Jordan, the manager was not interested in going 'Above' or 'Beyond'. read more

First I dropped my phone down a crack in the booth and they were so nice they tried to get it out and when I was trying to retrieve my phone I dropped multiple forks and knives and they didn't even care Two waitresses who crawled on the floor to look under the booth eventually they took the booth apart and when I was a apologizing they said it was fine.
