This isn't a review on the food as much as it is a review on the staff. My family and I were looking for a last minute bite on my birthday (Tuesday night). We looked over the Wood Creek menu online and decided this is the place. We got about a foot into the building when the Server ( maybe bartender) said "We don't have room for you." Now I'm not sensitive or a person that writes bad reviews like this every week. But... but... at least show a little of common curiosity. Maybe say "Hi, Hello, or Hey, sorry we are all booked up tonight. Hopefully we get you back another night" My wife and I both work in the industry and we both know the job can be stressful. There was no point in our interaction where we felt welcomed. We asked how long the wait would be dispite the rude staff member. She responded with, "9pm, but our kitchen is going to be closed." The staff member seemed to grow more annoyed by the moment with our presence. There was a trivia night going on and I understand that events like this draw a crowd. I also understand that maybe a reservation in situations like this are probably the way to go. We won't be dining here anytime soon. A rude staff can cost you guests. Hopefully, attitudes change at this place. read more

I don't typically write restaurant reviews, but I felt compelled to write about this one, since our experience here was so disappointing and there are so few restaurants in the area to choose from. My daughter and I were traveling back from a special weekend and were hungry and tired, and very excited to stop at this restaurant to enjoy the pretty location in Norfolk. The menu looked terrific, and there was seating on the patio. Seemed promising. We chose to sit outside, since there wasn't really any atmosphere/music inside, and the AC was on full blast so it was freezing. Our server came to take our order for an appetizer, entree with salad, and a kids linguine. After that, we didn't see her for about an hour. Our beef satay was dropped off by someone else and was pooled in oil. The peanut sauce was watery and not very good. My salad never came, and we had to get our server and ask her where our food was. She finally came back with my crab cakes, which were ok, but forgot the salad, and ran off before checking to see if I had silverware, which I did not. My daughter never got the sides that came with her meal, and the linguini was a pile dropped on top of soup of butter. It was truly gross and dripping off the noodles as she tried to eat it. Our server didn't seem to care much that things came out so late, nor that we had what we needed. Having been a server for many years, if she had at least apologized, or perhaps made some effort to make things nicer, it would have helped. If you are traveling through the area, this place is not worth the stop. Mediocre food, poor service, no music or atmosphere, and not much else to speak of. I hope they take this note to heart, because it has the potential to be a very nice stop for people traveling in the area. In our case, it was a waste of time and money and a depressing end to an otherwise nice trip. read more

Wood creek is our local pub. A place where people greet you and learn your name! We are vegetarian and highly recommend the house made black bean burger. It's huge, falls apart and comes with salsa. Substitutions are not frowned upon. Their fries are delicious and most importantly they always seem to have at least one superb IPA on tap. The bar is not too loud or obnoxious and the TVs are not "in your face". It's one of our favorite places to eat. P. S. Many of the desserts are house made! read more

Great pub menu with a decant taplist always on tap. The fried rossoto ball is delicous, as is the calimari for appetizers. Burgers are very good as are all the sandwiches i have tried. Had the pork entree last night and was delicous but was a bit dry. Overall always a good experience . My favorite place in that area of CT... I have enjoyed every meal there, and I've had a few. Great location and much better menu and service than the overpriced venue next door offers. Friendly staff, good beer selection and both laid back atmosphere on the pub side and a more upscale "Date Night" vibe on the sit down side as well as patio area when the weather is nice. We are new to the area and have been to the Norfolk Pub a few times. It has been a great experience. The staff is attentive, we were able to dine outside (which we prefer), and the food has been delicious!! They don't rush you, they are friendly and seem to care about a good dining experience and make customers feel comfortable. Tonight, we had the pleasure to meet Lindsey and her two sons, Matthew and Christian, who were our waiters, and they have all been wonderful! We will be back! read more

The food is amazing! The main bartender, Ben, is attentive, friendly, and clearly works very hard. They have outdoor seating, a huge plus, and I love that they provide a fine dining atmosphere on one side, and a pub atmosphere on the other side. I really want to like this place. Ok so when you walk in, it seems pretty upscale, but the menu doesn't match that. So I was a bit confused. PS, if you're looking for the ladies room, just ask, it almost hidden. Lol. That being said the outside area and pub area are super cute. Food was ok, I've definitely had better, but it wasn't bad. The menu was basic, as was their drink selection. Over all I wasn't impressed. I probably won't go back unless I'm at infinity hall. read more

I would not want to give a bad review, but I would like to get my point across. Just practically walked out tonight from this place out of irritation! We had waited for over an hour and only kids' meals and waters were served. And orders were only soups and salads- how hard are these to prepare? In the meantime, another table of 4 who got to this place much later than us have all been served and finishing their dinners. Others were waiting very long as well for either their orders or check. Lady server not courteous. Are these people trained? Guy wait staff was trying to be helpful but is just not trained as a server. He says they're short staffed but this place was not even packed tonight. My message to the owners: to avoid customer frustration when short-staffed, it would probably be better to close the place. Or better yet, had I known, I would not have had my family come here to dine. Poor service. No doubt. read more

As a child, when this was the Owl's Nest Pub (...at least to the best of my knowledge, that was the old name. Hey. I was just a kid...), I used to LOVE to come here with my parents and family. The dark pub lighting! The fried stuffed mushrooms! The White Russians my father used to let me sneak sips of! The pinball machine in the bar that I used to love to play on! Well, one time, I was playing and I got yelled at and kicked out. Apparently, you can't play pinball in the bar alone if you are only 7 years old. *ahem* That was the last time I went there...until the other night. The newest incarnation still has that dark pub lighting, but the ambiance has changed, as white linen table clothes cover the tables. Beautifully folded white napkins bloomed out of glass water goblets. Jazzy music flowed throughout the air. Baby, it's a whole new game! My parents both splurged on the special of the evening: ginger-glazed sea scallops with grilled asparagus and yellow rice. I went for the vegetable risotto, which was creamy and delicious and certainly stocked full of veggies. (My one compliant? It was about 50% mushrooms. I hate mushrooms. Mushrooms were not advertised on the menu description. Booooo...) I indulged in a piece of apple-caramel bread pudding, and I must say, without hesitation, it was one of the best pieces of bread pudding I've EVER had. Before heading to a concert at Infinity Hall, I'd suggest coming here for a meal. (Food is pricy at I.H., so I've heard from many...) You can get some full courses, along with your regular burgers and fries. You are covered! P.S.: The pinball machine is no longer in the bar area. They must have known I was coming. Great little place in Norfolk. Came here for lunch and ordered the Turkey Rachel. The sandwich was amply topped off with cole slaw and was quite tasty and went well with my Blue Moon on a warm May day. The ambiance inside is old style train station with carved wood and stained glass windows. Really a charming place. Can't wait to come back. read more

My favorite place!! If I could go every day I would!! Highly recommend Seafood Fra Diavlo, daily specials, seasonal salads (yum), Scallops, Nachos, French Onion Soup, Chili, WINGS, and the steaks......could go on and on. Very welcoming and the service is good in the bar and the dining room. The owners venture out to say hello. Love the tablecloths and flowers as well as the high top tables. Complimentary lighting. Still outfitted in ski/snowboard gear, we stopped in the quaint little "downtown" of Norfolk for a late lunch at Wood Creek Bar & Grill. Our first visit, we initially felt a bit intimidated upon seeing the white linen table clothes vs. our hoodies and baggy snow pants. But that soon changed. Wood Creek is a great pub, with pub fare, and a friendly, boisterous bar. Oh, and the white linens? They were topped with white paper, and each table had a basket of crayons, so you can doodle while you dine. The decor is as comforting as the food, with stained glass, dark wood, bench seats built into the walls...a classic pub, with an updated flair. Upon entry we were told to pick any table. Cool. A nice window seat in the sun. Our server was super-prompt, very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, willing and able to answer questions. Not that there were many. The lunch menu consists of a lot of standard pub fare, but there are a couple of curve balls thrown in -- Crispy fried balls of risotto stuffed with fresh mozzarella and prosciutto. Really? Mmm. The lunch specials were all intriguing, while the regular menu featured a short list of apps and expected salads. The rest of the lunch menu consisted of mostly sandwich offerings; some basics like a Reuben or grilled chicken, others only slightly unique, such as the black bean burger or the Jalepeño Popper Burger. There were some abbreviated versions of the dinner selections. The good stuff appeared to be on the large Specials board hanging on the wall. The server didn't mention it, but it was pretty hard to miss. That's where I decided upon my Jamaican jerked chicken sandwich topped with fried jalepeños, sliced onion and a wonderful spicy aioli. It sounds brutal, but wasn't. The peppers were pretty mild, the jerk spice was just right, the whole thing was as flavorful as could be. My only complaint was that the roll wasn't grilled or toasted. It would have been the perfect touch. The dinner menu is substantially the same as the lunch menu, with a nice, albeit brief, Entree section featuring a couple of nice steaks, chicken, crab cakes and even pan seared duck breast. My only complaint is not with the food or the service. I initially only gave four stars, but then I re-read my review and realized my complaints were minor. The food was very good, service was very good. The only complaints involved our drink orders; my wife ordered a house special cucumber martini which was described as coming in a sugar-rimmed glass. No sugar rim, but the drink was otherwise perfect. My draft beer, a local double IPA (a small selection of drafts, nothing spectacular) had nearly 2" of foam on top, but still didn't reach the top of the glass. Heresy! Those are deal breakers! :) No, not really. Seriously, it's a very nice pub/bar/grill, especially if you're going to a show at The Infinity next door. It's was a nice change of pace, as we always make dinner reservations at the Bistro when buying show tickets. While everything was good, it's really not five stars, more like 4.5, but I'm going to round up on this one. I look forward to trying out the dinner menu the next time we go to a concert. read more

We like sitting at the bar on this little spot along a really scenic motorcycle ride route. I LOVE their french dip - I am told them do their own roast beef and they put this on garlic bread which is pretty much the best idea ever. I have come here specifically for this sandwich and I also enjoy their potato salad. The risotto ball app is really good as well. This most recent time we went we had a mexican burger that was on special - pepper jack, chipotle aoili i believe and chorizo - super tasty and the burger was a very perfect medium rare - dripping everywhere as it should be and the fries are good also. For a small place, they usually have a decent beer selection. There is a decent amount of parking around the back of the block. Motorcyclists driving through - this spot is a win. read more

They have paper over the tablecloth and a jar of crayons on the table. There's a reason for that. You will need to entertain yourself while you wait for your food. It was around an hour in my case. To make matters worse, we had scheduled our reservation for 6:15 so that we could make it to the 8:00 show at Infinity Hall around the corner. 1:45 should be plenty of time, right? Apparently not. They served our entrees at around 7:40. In my case it was an entree and a salad, which made it that much more difficult. And the food was really tasty. I mean delicious. Try the duck. I would love to have enjoyed that meal without having to pound it down. Incidentally, I can't tell you if the desserts are as delicious as the rest of my choices. There was no time to find out. There is somebody in that kitchen that really knows how to cook. There is nobody in that restaurant that knows how to run a restaurant. If you like to color, and have loads of time on your hands, give this place a try. If you are looking for a good meal before the show at Infinity Hall, better find another place. read more

Waitress didn't bother to check on us as we waited for an hour. Poor service and there was only 1 other couple in the dining room. This place was so terrible. The owner sat us at a table infested with flies. We drank our sodas for about an hour and then we were told that they didn't have the food we ordered. The owner is nasty . I wanted so much to give this place a good review--it's cute and the menu seemed good. We were seated rather quickly, especially for a Saturday night, and the waitress was nice. Wings were really good! But....rest of the food was **meh** and that was compounded by the fact that the only person wearing a mask was one waitress. The other waiter was technically wearing a mask, but it was around his chin most of the time, and when he adjusted it he only put it over his mouth with his nose still exposed. What really got me though was the view of the kitchen staff that I had from my seat. Only one person in the kitchen that I could see was "wearing" a mask around her chin, which she did pull up when she left the kitchen. No one else in there even had a mask. The best part was when I saw one of the people in the kitchen (younger kid with red hair) walk over to where some plates of food were waiting to go out and with his fingers help himself to something off of a plate!! Surely i thought I was seeing things, but guess what?! Another plate (a salad with chicken) came up--he walked over and with his bare hands threw the chicken on it and then took his fingers and grabbed something off the plate, popping it in to his mouth!! Maybe this happens in all restaurant kitchens, but if this is the way a kitchen staff behaves, perhaps you shouldn't have a window on the kitchen door! read more

We had wanted to sit outside in the afternoon, and only two tables had customers but all the other tables needed clearing. We went inside to ask for a table and the restaurant had about four patrons at the bar and one other couple at a table in the bar. We asked the hostess for a table in the dining room but it was too early for dinner so she asked us to sit at a table in the bar because they were setting up for dinner. She did deliver water to our table and then we sat at the table for about 15 minutes. We asked one of the staff if we could order; she said that our waiter would be right with us. She was setting up the tables in the front dining room. After another fifteen minute wait we left. We have not idea what the food was like, but there were at least four staff members in the room and no one took our order. read more

I cannot possibly say enough good things about their calamari appetizer. We order it every time we go and it always surpasses expectations. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating. We went here pre- an Infinity show. Pleasantly surprised. Very cool old building (the current restaurant managers have been running the place for ~8 years) with a pub side and a restaurant side (you can get menus from both regardless of where you sit...I suggest looking at both). Wait staff was attentive, knowledgeable and very capable. The calamari was suggested by, believe it or not, the busboy (who actually double dutied as a waiter after the order was taken...the waitress and he tag teamed coverage of our table). Anyway, the calamari was hands-down the best I have ever had anywhere....period. It was SO good and the portion size for $10.99 was huge! I would stop at this restaurant (and plan to again) for just that appetizer (I'm telling you, it was great...every so lightly breaded and fried...with a slightly spicy/savory main sauce complemented by another aioli for dipping). Had a chicken sandwich and the cowboy burger for our entrees. I'd say that they were good...but after the calamari just ok. The cowboy burger was a nice presentation...and tasty (homemade BBQ sauce was very good), but there was a little too much bun and lettuce for my taste. The onion rings were excellent....tasty, ample portion, well-fried, and "not too thick". Chicken sandwich was also good, but nothing to jump up and down about. The homemade coleslaw was good. That's it. I'd go. And for anyone who lives 45 minutes or so from Infinity and haven't been to a show there, you are really missing out. It is well worth the trip. Make a night of it, take some friends and stop by the Wood Creek for dinner beforehand. It makes for a GREAT get-away-from-it-all night! read more

As we walked in the Norfolk Pub on a Saturday night, we noticed there wasn't enough room to sit at the bar. The blonde bartender walked up to us and asked if she could help us. I nicely told her, "we are interested in sitting at the bar but there isn't enough room". She quickly and snarkily replied, "oh, there won't be space at the bar for a while"..... So I nicely asked, "is there was a table we could sit at to get some drinks"?....she again snarkily replied, "Oh, I've heard that before"....and then went on to snarkily say, "let me stop what I'm doing and help you". Then she started to clear a table right next to us and someone in our party said "Oh, don't worry about clearing all of that....the waitress turned to her and gave her a dirty look and a roll of the eyes. So... we sat at the table. Once this bartender finally came back, we gave our drink orders. About 10 minutes later, she delivered the drinks almost knocking into me, didn't say a word, and so I handed out the drinks to my other two family members. We finished our drinks and would have ordered another round, but we felt so unwelcomed that we decided to pay our bill and head next door for the concert. Well, we waited and waited for our big and round blonde waitress....and waited and waited...so we finally asked another waitress walking by if she could please get us our check. This waitress, who was so sweet and smiled to us and said sure, but when she returned she asked us if this was our check and we said no that we had 3 drinks. She apologized, and went back to find our check. So a couple of minutes later...here comes our big and round blonde waitress from across the room shouting two times at us, "IS THIS WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR...IS THIS WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR.....we were happy to finally get the check so we could pay and get the hell out of the Norfolk Pub!!! Well, guess who disappeared again...you guessed it, the bartender was nowhere to be seen for another 10 minutes....so finally we went to the bar and handed our payment and check to this nice waitress that tried to help us and she was able to cash us out....needless to say, we couldn't wait to leave!!!!!!! I will never, ever go to the Norfolk Pub ever again!!! The bar manager obviously needs more training on how to treat customers!!!!!!! read more
