That's not this guy. The owner is old school: direct, unchatty, and honest. He tells you when you don't need something - actually preventing sales. He helps you avoid the Amazon-too-many-choices problem by stocking ~ 2 choices for shoes and often 1 choice for other products (this actually can be helpful - no need to weed through hundreds of fake reviews). He gives you what you need and you're done. Here's a typical experience (after multiple visits): me walking in smiling and chatty. I ask for XYZ. He - not smiling and not chatty - gets me XYZ with minimal fuss and fanfare. I check out. That's it. Prices aren't too bad and it's nice to go someplace local, where he has what you need and you walk out with what you need and sized correctly. Madewell is definitely funkier and edgier than J.Crew though. Their main focus is denim, which you can tell when you walk in by the awesome denim bar. The associates are super helpful explaining the fits and styles. There are also lots of really soft t-shirts and tank tops, as well as nicer tops and dresses. I really have a weakness for all of the accessories at Madewell! I love their scarves, jewelry, and bags!! I am so excited to have a Madewell so close! Enough to get me into the store, which was their goal. The discount was for something like a flat amount off the total purchase, or maybe a percentage discount. Don't really remember but you get my drift I hope. After trying on a handful of shoes, I found three or four pairs that I was happy with and wanted to buy. I brought them to the front of the store, which was being staffed by a guy i had been chatting with my whole time there. He was very personable and friendly. Good guy. He rang up my order and went to use my coupon. Ladies and gentlemen, this is when the malarkey started to happen. I had naïvely assumed I would just be able to use the coupon on any shoes in the store. How stupid of me! DXL is a corporation, of course they'll be operating with predatory practices. There was more fine print on that stupid coupon than a contract with the devil. Not ONE of the shoes that I wanted to buy were eligible to be used under that coupon. After reading it, I realized that I had got sent a coupon for a discount for shoes in which probably half the stores inventory did not qualify for. Probably will not be returning to the store with business practices like that.

This new Famous Footwear sits in the Natick Mall on Route 9 in Natick, across from the food court and near the Sears entrance. The most convenient way to access it if you aren't in the mall already for other shopping is to park near Sears and cut through. What I find bizarre is how Famous Footwear is now opening in the mall, after they had a larger, more easily accessible location in the Sherwood Plaza around ten years ago, that closed just after opening. Regardless, this place seems like it is a good location also since every store does well at the Natick Mall! Staff at the store today were friendly, helpful and attentive to all of the new customers. Large variety and top stock. I can't say it's the largest Famous Footwear location I've been to, but then again I had no problem finding myself a sharp looking pair of shoes to accompany for the season. I am a huge sandal / slide person, but have discovered that even in the summer, having shoes is still necessary. This place opened right in the nick of time. Very new design used in this store, that actually I find effective. Benches throughout the entire middle of the store for any customers to try shoes on, and separate sides of the store for different types of footwear (dress shoes, sneakers, and of course, sandals). Good selection, good prices and super clean, organized store! Remember, the best secret is to park by Sears (the best parking lot to park in at any time...), cut through the store and enter the mall. She did ask if I wanted a bag but didn't have a small bag and there was a .10 fee. (I thought people stopped doing this but I guess not) so I decided not too since I knew I'd be shopping elsewhere that I'd obtain a bag. This location didn't have it, but she was very diligent in searching and even looked online using the store's iPad. I find their regular prices rather high but they often have sales. If you can snag anything here for 40 percent off or more, the prices are more reasonable. I got two great dresses for under $30 during their after Christmas sales. Jewelry is very nice too and does not look cheap like the jewelry in some of their competitors.
