This review is for the Newton location: I just started getting into running and needed a new pair of shoes since my old pair was falling apart and not properly (and professionally) sized. I went to Marathon Sports in Boston and did not have a great experience at all. I almost didn't want to try out another shoe store but desperately needed to get a new pair. So I went to Heartbreak Hill per a friend's recommendation and worked with Ben (the younger one is what I'm told) and he was so knowledgeable and patient with all of my newbie questions. He measured my gait, recorded it as well and explained his entire thought process to me for which shoes he recommended and why. But ultimately he made sure I was aware that in the end it was my choice and I should get what I was most comfortable with. I ended up staying at the store for over an hour and never felt like I was rushed out. I'll definitely be recommending Heartbreak Hill to all of my friends and be back for when I need a new pair! read more

I went in to try out the Nike Sport Research Lab Running Analysis and had the best experience at this store! Kelsie was so helpful and kind. The technology was so impressive and Kelsie did a great job explaining how it worked as well as showing me what I could improve on while running. She also recommended shoes for m. I popped into the Heartbreak store after and was greeted with friendly and knowledge staff. From shoes to apparel to accessories, they had everything you could ever need. I'm not a runner. Not even a little bit. Recently ran a 5K and had tons of blisters afterwards. I figured it's time to get new shoes. I went to Marathon Sports. The experience was awful. I wanted to walk out several times. The girl clearly hated her girl. So I went to the New Balance factory store. Similar experience. Finally I listened to a friend about HHRC. Wish I saved myself the headache. Just went in and met Daniel. He was incredibly helpful and patient with me. They record you on a iPad and show you your gait and then recommend shoes based on that. I tried on several pairs and settled on an Asics pair. I couldn't be happier. I will go back there and recommend this to others. Thanks so much Daniel!!! read more

Fantastic customer service! I bought a pair of running shoes for my son. When they arrived there was an error with the order. I emailed them to tell them what happened. They immediately resolved my issue and replaced the shoes. And they include a hand written note in every order. I highly recommend them! read more

Heartbreak has some amazing staff and some awesome custom heartbreak hill gear. I came for the Thursday group run 'signature speed' at 6:30pm with around 30 people showing up. It is a fantastic running community where everyone is very nice. The sales associates did not try to push any sales on us and were just welcoming . Wonderful place to find running shoes. Terrific staff (several from local high schools) give you advice and let you test shoes by running around the block. No high pressure sales tactics. They will order sizes and colors if they don't have them in stock. And if the shoe doesn't fit (but it will! See above) you can return within 2 weeks, even if you've worn them. Love patronizing this local business and bring the whole family here (at least those with adult shoes sizes)! read more

I can't believe that no one was inspired to write a review for this store yet! I went in this morning looking for a new pair of running shoes. I am not a runner, and I don't know the first thing about picking out the appropriate footwear. The salesperson, Mike, had me walk up and down the sidewalk while videotaping me to check my gait. Then, he proceeded to very patiently bring me approximately 200 pairs of shoes to try on. I was difficult, as I have this weird bone thing that tends to get aggravated in every new pair of shoes I buy. I took up so much of his time that I felt guilty, but he was incredibly accommodating and helpful. He didn't push me into buying something wildly expensive, which I actually would have done. I appreciated this. From start to finish, he provided perfect customer service, which unfortunately seems to be becoming a rarity. I've been to Marathon Sports in the past, and I liked them as well. They seemed to have a larger selection, as I recall, but the customer service here was so on point, I'll be back for my next pair, as well! read more

I came in here last weekend to buy new running sneakers after developing a few issues from my old one. I settled on one pair of shoes, but as soon as I went running I experienced horrible pain. I called the store two days later and spoke to Luis, who was very nice and very helpful. He assured me we would figure out the issue with the shoes as soon as I could come in. I went back today and I was amazed at their customer service. Luis helped me out so much and was very patient with me. I walked out very satisfied and with an awesome new pair of shoes. I don't plan to shop for sneakers anywhere else in the future! read more

High fives all around. Staff is fantastic, and their customer service is supreme. It's a little small inside, but they can get what you want if they have it at their other (presumably bigger) store in the South End. And they host training runs for free, if you are able to make it to them. They are all about the running community here. read more

I showed up with my two teenaged kids looking for shoes for spring track. The young fellow how helped us was very knowledgeable and helpfully. He walked us through their process, which involves video taping your stride, and analyze it to figure out the right type of shoe. Then they brought out 3 options for each kid (I have a boy and a girl runner). Very pleased with the people and the process. read more

This is for the South End location. I've been to this store quite a few times, but have never written a review. As we left the store today, my husband and I both said "they are the nicest people," and it's true. I will second the previoius poster. I am a realtively new runner and recently went to Heartbreak Hill for new running shoes. I am so used to going into stores where I have to help myself that I was bowled over by the level of service and attention. The selection is good and the prices seem the same as everywhere else. The staff is really nice and helpful. read more

Got my running shoes from here the other day for the second time, and customer service was just as outstanding as the last time I was here, about a year ago. They give you the kind of shopping experience where you walk out wondering why you order anything from amazon - there's so much expertise and wonderful social interaction that such a kind, local business can provide. A man by the name of Luis helped me, finding exactly what I needed, even though I came in 10 minutes before closing. I thought I'd be the last customer that day but just at closing time another woman walked in whom staff helped out, as well. I assume staff left well after closing! I highly recommend them if you're looking to buy new running shoes! (Maybe other gear, too, I just can't speak to that.) read more

This is an awesome store in a great location (right off the Boston Marathon course)! There is plenty of street parking available on Comm Ave. and the store has very convenient hours. They're all beyond helpful and friendly and super involved in the community. For example they let any runners come in and use the restroom whenever they are open and offer a water stop and cooler as well. They're Wednesday night and Saturday morning runs are always well attended and there is a good mix of running abilities. I feel good about buying my running gear and shoes from a locally owned store that is so invested in the community and Boston running. read more
