Legit place to get a drink that's off of Third Street, but not overrun with people. Decent food and affordably priced drinks. Wouldn't quite call it a sports bar, but it does have TVs, a pool table, and an upstairs that's a little more intimate. They were playing some punk music in there so I was pretty into it. A little different than what you'd get at the other beer hangout or the dive bar nearby. Ample seating, stuffed deer heads on the wall, and a good beer selection on draft. We came before 5 and there was a $4 draft happy hour. Highly recommend for a no frills drink and bar snacks. Heard the Hawaiian pizza was good as well as the wings. If the bar was busy I would understand. The bar was not busy. I have visited this bar on several occasions and noticed of late the steady decline and finally decided to write a review. I went in to this bar Friday night and was a bit intoxicated. (Imagine that on a Friday night, going into a bar). The bartender (long haired gentleman) says "I'm not serving you". That's not even my issue. I get it if someone looks too intoxicated. After some back and forth, I said "I'm a disabled veteran" Response "So? I don't care" Ok even then I get it. But the hostility was definitely there. As I was being escorted out by someone I came with, because they seen me get upset at this point. I said, "I'll let all my Veterans friends know that you don't care to serve vets." Response "I hope you do!" Someone else in the bar "good! We don't want them here!" Wow ok. Well I definitely let them know. It seemed that as soon as they knew I was a veteran that the hostility got worse. I always hope that establishments don't fall into politics, but yet they do. Trendy and cute. I know it's labeled as a sports bar and there are TVs there so you can watch the game, but nothing about this place really screams sports bar. It's more of a classy place. You wouldn't want to wear your old jeans to this place. The crowd at the Old Oak is pretty young. Linfield students hang out here and the rest of the crowd varies from late twenty-somethings to thirty-somethings. It's definitely the place to hang out downtown. The drinks are good and you can order pizza from Third Street Pizza to enjoy with your crew. If you want a fun place to hang out for drinks, this is definitely the place to hit. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I am completely freaked out by a particular bartender's actions and felt the need to warn other patrons by way of this review. I had a couple friends go to this establishment on October 3, 2023. Roughly 30 minutes to closing and shortly after the bartender (a woman in red/black flannel and shoulder-length-dark hair) had just refilled my friends' drinks, the bartender told them they needed to leave as she closed up. My friends were confused b/c closing was not for another half hour and the bartender had just refilled their drinks. The bartender told them they would need to sit outside in the cold to finish their drinks. So they did. Shortly after, my friends finished their drinks and started walking away from the establishment. The bartender yelled at them as they were walking away accusing them of taking the drinks with them. She then threatened to call the cops. Sure enough, my friends were approached by a law enforcement officer accusing them of taking drinks away from the establishment. This not only ruined their night, but could have ended so much worse than it did. I will not be going to this place and will encourage others not to as well until this bartender is no longer employed there. read more

The service and selection of beverages as well as the atmosphere were all top notch! I was lucky enough to sit at the bar and watch an NBA basketball game and a baseball playoff game before trivia night started. This is the ONLY bar I will go to in McMinnville. AMazing beers on tap. The staff is always friendly and they ALL know what's going on when it comes to new beers or mixed drinks. I've been a customer of The Oak for years (since college), and I've got to admit that I am extremely disappointed in the changes that have taken place since an exchange of ownership occurred this year. From what I have gathered, the new ownership hired someone from Chicago (who had no history with the bar, previous managers, etc) to manage and completely "makeover" the bar. Honestly, this new guy 'made-under' The Oak and replaced it with a reflection of complete and total gentrification. The personality and charm has completely been stripped off the walls and replaced with neon beer signs and an unfitting and utterly massive OSU banner on the back wall. I have nothing against OSU, but this is a LINFIELD COLLEGE town. This is not Corvallis. And, speaking as a Linfield alumna, it's insulting and disheartening. Say goodbye to your weekend, college-students crowd. Aesthetically, this bar has lost it's unique, eccentric, rustic and eclectic character. The walls have instead been replaced with nearly-blank and boring, shades of blue that belongs in a nursery. Nevertheless, I always give establishments a second a chance. I walked in today after work with my Thai Country take out, ordered a cider (after noticing the absent concept of 'Happy Hour') and was told that because they "have a food menu now," outside food and beverages would soon be forbidden. WHAT. First, their 'food menu' consists of sliders, a salad, cashews, and a cheese plate (all over priced, btw). Second, EVERY SINGLE BAR in this town (that isn't also a formal restaurant) allows customers to come in with their takeout from the marvelous restaurants that occupy Third Street. Third, what the hell kind of bar doesn't have a happy hour?! If their excuse of not allowing outside takeout and nixing the infamous concept of Happy Hour is to 'save costs,' then maybe management shouldn't have changed everything that made the The Oak THE OAK in the first place. I'll conclude by saying, "Buh Bye!" I'll be down at The Bitter Monk with all the other ex-customers of The Old Oak. Call me when you bring back everything that came with the positive cash flow. read more

It was just ok.... I expected more I guess because it's owned by Community plate and Thistle owners. I read back in May that this would be above Community Plate and food would be served from them to this bar, but maybe plans changed?? It's around the corner from Community Plate. They only have a few bar snacks, so don't come here hungry expecting a full meal. Also a few mixed drinks, but mostly beers. The space is very open, the top was roped off so we couldn't check it out. There is a pool table and games showing on TV's. The bartender looked like he was straight outta Yale or Harvard with his Polo shirt, khaki pants and curly blonde hair! Well he fit right in with this place! The place is decked out in old wood chairs, leather booths and plain tables. My first impression is they ran out of moola to decorate the joint, but that's just me. If your looking for cheap drinks and a place to watch the game... then they can deliver that. read more

I so genuinely wish I could give this place 0 stars. I can say with almost 100% certainty I was drugged at this establishment. And not by a patron. By a bartender. I am also a bartender in town, and I had heard some talk about one of the oak mixologists slipping things in people's drinks but I never believe anything until I see or hear it first hand. I went to the oak and purchased TWO DRINKS. TWO. I was entirely sober before this. I had one drink, and I took a singular sip of the second one and immediately lost mobility and brain function. I was alive, but all my friends said my soul left my body. I had minor hallucinations, experienced paralysis, and the next day vomited for 10 straight hours. I vomited for so long that one of my eyes actually bled. I have since told my story to many women, for fear of their safety, and many girls have experienced very similar nights with uncannily similar symptoms. The owners have been notified. They claim the bartender used to do stuff like this but has since 'changed'. I'm disgusted. read more

BEST bar in Mcminnville. It's the only bar in Mac that could be taken out and placed in the city. If you're looking for a good drink and good atmosphere, this is the place to go. If you're looking to grab a beer, they have a wide variety and huge selection. Don't come looking for a meal though, they don't have a kitchen.
