I have put a very long review on hear and it was deleted. I notice all of the complaints on the reviews are so similar to mine, especially Sharon B. I plan on sending a complaint to ever establishment that needs to hear this. I journaled single issue I had. I felt like I was in jail. Sometimes I even thought I was in hell. I have names, dated, times, issues with the pharmacy, and problems with the entire time staff. I was there and Lakeside in 2018. I already suffer with PTSD but what happened to me there made my PTSD. Obviously since I am still traumatized. It may have been 2018 but I am still affected buy the memories and nightmares. Once I pull my notes and journal together, I will write more on another review. If your looking for a rehab/summer getaway for tweens , then you found the right place. Bunch of little kids who had one bad evening and ended up here. If they don't agree with what your saying in group , fire alarms are immediately pulled. Just childish scenarios that distract you from what your actually there for. 3 people that I knew personally, committed suicide shortly after their stay at la Paloma. I originally contacted the Oaks for help after suffering from multiple issues stemming from PTSD from my childhood. I explained the severity of everything that was happening and informed them I would be traveling across country in a very fragile state to get treatment. Treatment I was told was the best in the country. Do not believe this. From the second I placed myself in the Care of the Oaks at La Paloma, I was treated like a prisoner. That was after the 9 hour process of actually getting me checked in. I am writing this 7 months after my visit only because it has taken me 7 months to even begin to repair the damage this organization inflicted on me. When you call them you will speak with a salesperson. They will try and act like they are concerned and would like to help, but it is all about sales. My Reps name was Adam White. He assured me everything would be taken care of for my arrival and that all information from my doctors would be transferred to the appropriate people and they would be aware and ready to treat me when I arrived. All of this was a lie. When I first arrived at their site, they kept trying to admit me to their Alcohol Treatment Program. I kept telling them that I don't drink alcohol, but that was how I was treated the whole time. They were clueless as to why I was there. I was originally told all about their success with EMDR treatment for PTSD victims. I am not sure to this day if that treatment even exists there. It was never offered to me, even though that's one of the main reasons I went to this facility. I could have gone to a hundred facilities closer to my some of San Diego, but their staff assured me this treatment and their facilities were the best. I believe today, that Mr. Adam White (If that's really his name) would sell his own mother, if he thought he could make a buck off of it. There was not a person there who was familiar with my case upon arrival and I was treated like a prisoner from the very first second. No one there I came in contact with had any compassion. To be honest, my experience was like a Twilight Zone episode. The facility itself is old and musty. The room they tried to check me into originally had severe mold in the closet and a water damaged ceiling. It was dirty and the people were rude and from my experience seemed to lack the basic knowledge for this type of facility. I am not going to write my whole story here, because it is long and still very traumatic for me. These people violated my civil rights and the decency you would expect from another human being. In the end, they were only there for 2 they were interested in. One, to take my money and Two, to cover their asses. That is all they care about. Incompetent staff with deplorable facilities. Most everything you see on their website is either a lie or a gross misrepresentation of what really exists there. I am writing this to try and save anyone thinking of using this facility from making a huge mistake. Please, learn from my mistake. This place is not only not worthy of any stars for a rating, but in my opinion the Federal or State government should shut this facility down. This organization will lie to you and deceive you in every way possible to get you in the door. Once you are there they will treat you like dirt if you get any treatment at all. DO NOT think for one second that these people are being honest or have your health and best interest at heart. I was told within the last month, that the one of the reasons people at the facility are not able or trained to help you is because they have many pending lawsuits against them. Hi, there, i did put my sister at Oaks at La Paloma, assuming that the daily rate was based on the 27,600 monthly rate they advertise. No where did it tell me that if she leaves against clinical advice, the daily rate goes up. I called on a Monday, and they quoted me 1786. Then the following Wednesday, "Jennifer" in the business office says "oops, it just went up to 1926.00???? PER DAY??? I do think it is extremely UNETHICAL to take money from someone like me who is a teacher for a living, has used all of her savings to try and help her twin sister, and then, when she leaves because she is bipolar, they tell me AFTER the fact, that that 27,600 was a discounted rate? That doesn't sit well with me at all. I am going to need every penny back into what is left of my savings to help my sister. The Oaks didn't take her insurance, but they certainly took my money. Quickly, and easily, I may add! What are family members supposed to do? I feel that this practice is dishonest and unfair to family members who are only trying desperately to get help for their mentally ill loved ones. The system should help SUPPORT us, and not be greedy by taking our hard-earned savings. read more

This was formally the Oaks at La Paloma. I went there for urgent mental health care in late 2019. It was horrible. They seem to be good at treating addicts and alcoholics because that's what groups are tailored to, but they DO NOT treat mental health issues properly - I've been sick and in several psych wards since 2000, so I know what good treatment is. When I began trying to discharge, they said it would take FOUR DAYS, which is absurd. In desperation I finally had them transfer me to the Memphis psych hospital where there are real doctors who know what they're doing. I was in crisis; they gave me antihistamines for anxiety and let me go SEVEN DAYS without sleep. None of my grievances were addressed and I submitted at least three per day for almost two weeks. DO NOT use them for mental health. read more

If I had to use one word to describe The Oaks at La Paloma, it would be "character ". Character in the 100 year old buildings, the massive oaks and magnolias that fill the property. And character in the staff that greet you with that warm southern hospitality and make you feel right at home from the second you walk in the door. "When you want to leave give it three more days" I went to La Paloma for trauma, mental illness, and codependency. I was treated greatly from the beginning of my seven week stay at La Paloma. The program exceeded my standards. I have a lot of limitations because of my physical and mental health. I am vegan. The Kitchen staff worked really hard and went an extra mile to aide to my diet. They make really great food for everyone. They are really flexible for anyone who has food allergies and special needs. The medical team is amazing. They work really hard on getting you well. The therapists are wonderful! They work long hours and over extend themselves. The residential Counselors are friendly, fun, and professional. I received trauma treatment, which was very healing.I am doing great. My medicine is aligned perfectly, thanks to the psychiatrist i worked with. The groups I worked in really equipped me with the skills I needed for when I came home. When you visit La Paloma at first you might feel confused if you go for the reasons I did. The programs include a lot about addiction and alcoholism. My advice would be is to supplement the word 'addiction' for trauma, mental illness or whatever your issue may be and take the education for what it is. What i learned made me stronger. We sent our loved one here. This is not a Dual Diagnosis treatment facility that focuses on getting patients med compliant. Their focus is on addiction. Their staff were pleasant and customer/client focused. Despite our experience, I believe this may be a good program for people who have addiction problems, with perhaps mild mental disorders. read more

We put a lot of hope in this facility and we were disappointed at every turn. We were told by the admissions counselor that they had animal therapy. The website stated that they had EMDR, acupuncture, and caring individuals. The only animals were stone statues in the backyard. We were told that there wasn't time to do EMDR, that it was a long-term therapy, yet the program is a 30-day program. We asked the therapist, "Then, who CAN have EMDR at your facility?" (no answer) Acupuncture occurred once while our loved one was there. And multiple afternoon and evening staff members behaved in ways we can only describe as unprofessional and uncaring. Our loved one has had many struggles, but NEVER has he been diagnosed as paranoid. However, he was diagnosed as paranoid after he complained about the treatment. He has been home for a month and finally getting good medication. He confirms what he told us happened when he reported from The Oaks. Here is an example: Our loved one carried a small river rock in his pocket, and it had incredible meaning for him. It's not as if rocks are forbidden at The Oaks--they paint and display them everywhere. When our loved one was showering, low-level staff members threw the rock in the trash. Our loved one was upset when he found it missing and became agitated and emptied four trashcans until he found it. The following night when he showered, these staff members took the rook again. They said it was because our loved one had been belligerent and that this time they threw the stone in the Dumpster where he couldn't get it. If for some bizarre reason they had to take the stone away, they could have kept it until our loved one was discharged. We shared our concerns with the nurse who prescribed his medications. She told us that what we described did not happen and she had diagnosed our loved one as paranoid shortly after he arrived. We realize that lower-level staff behave differently when upper-level staff aren't around, but declining to investigate a patient's claims is disturbing. read more

I am writing this review in hopes of helping someone like myself find this great facility. We were very apprehensive about finding a rehab after having a bad experience with one. Someone told me about La Paloma and after some research we decided to have our daughter attend their treatment program. The facility itself is very nice and the staff is amazing. They truly want to help and have helped my daughter so much in her quest to beat her addiction and get her life back. I am so grateful to La Paloma and their kindness and patience with both of us. If you are considering a rehab facility I cannot urge you enough to choose La Paloma. read more

Over the last 5 months we have battled with insurance companies and tried to reconcile what insurance said they did and what actually occurred, She has been supportive and patient and I can't hank her enough. i discharged from the oaks today (please excuse the all caps....i have an issue with my shift button, so nothing unintended is meant by the caps). like a lot of places, the oaks presents itself as a dual diagnosis facility. i met a lot of nice people with extreme issues. most, as the science suggests, also have substance abuse issue. they seem to be happy in general with their treatment but multiple told me the staff's lazy go-to "you are bi-polar----take this' or 'you are psychotic.....take this'. maybe you have multiple personaties....take this'. one 18 year left today and last night in his farewell, he introduced himself as an alcoholic and as a day and half bi-polar. that got a laugh from the people that had been there a while and presumably through a series of mis-diagnoses. another guy represented being diagnosed with 4 mental disorders, medicated for all and felt he had none. i am no doctor but can recognize honesty when i see it. as i see it, the oaks concern is identifying people with mental health issues, whether they have them or not, a serious mental health disorder should not be vetted by an organization like the oaks who has money has their major concern. secondly, i came there with an alcohol addiction and was told the oaks was excellent in that regard, i felt no sense that was a priority of any of the staff. (please do not contact me in any way that alcholism mirrors a further issue like anxiety. do not offend me because that is as obvious as milk is white). i don't need your fees to make you look stupid. finally, 1. the place is dirty. it needs a through cleaning and a full paint job. 2. there are reports of black mold in some bathroooms.. 3. the outside patios and fountains are kept to the standard of a prison. 4. there is sub-standard communication between the intake people, the rc's, the nursing staff, the doctors, the business office etc. as an example, intake granted limited use of my computer for business while there. no communication was given to anyone down the line and i lost 2 days. 5. i was told on day 1 that no detox meds wouls begin until after a 24 hour of observation. this is a irresponsible policy, dangerous, but does save them a couple of bucks. pitiful. 6. i was further told on day 3 or 4, that all detox meds would be suspended and that my insurance would only pay at a level of iop or php. i asked the murse on duty (and i will get her name if i have to subpoena court records". i asked her what happens if i seize since you arbitrarily suspended my detox meds and her response was "well, i guess we will have to take you to thr hospital and see how it turns out''. she should be fired for cause. if you do not, i'll get it in court. read more

La Paloma changed my life for the better. The staff were the nicest people I have ever met in my entire life. Quality would describe this rehabilitation center and I am so glad I chose this place. I never thought I would ever say that I love rehab, but I loved it here. I had a great experience and learned so much about addiction, as well as mental health here. I would recommend this place to anyone in need of help and even those who aren't addicts and only need mental health help. It made me realize how much I am actually struggling and how much help I needed. The staff here are genuine and really do care about your needs and your needs are met here. The information that they teach you is extremely useful for sobriety and mental health. The groups are so intimate and I felt comfortable enough to share my story. This facility is a disaster in every way. Our deductible was collected by them on a Sunday. They called and asked for expiration date of credit card on Tuesday - after the claim was denied by insurance, and did not tell me the claim was denied. Our insurance company has labeled this as deceptive practice and is investigating. We were then told we would do IOP at no charge for December due to the many many issues we had. When Foundations decided to refund a large part of the money we paid in, they added but you owe us for IOP. Or are you pulling xx out of IOP. What?? We were discharged the 4th day after we entered for residential with no safe plan. The business office today asked if I was pulling xx out of treatment. I don't know? How much do we owe you. I have yet to get any answers. I do not know if they have even started a claim for IOP. The reviews here that are good are dated. Was there a change in mgmt.? The business office has been no help to us. No answers. Are we out of IOP now? With or without medical advice? I am so sorry we ever went here and trusted them with xx health. I am afraid the outcome of our involvement with LaPaloma may wind up being more dangerous than having never been here at all. Very very sad for a company in this business. read more

I spent two months at La Paloma, followed by two months at their sister facility in Palm Springs, CA. La Paloma is not without its faults. The facilities are questionable to poor, food was hit-or miss at best, the neighborhood leaves a lot to be desired, and some of the staff displayed unprofessional behavior. However, I can honestly say that La Paloma saved my life. In retrospect, I received the best information, therapy, and care I have ever received in my life. They are staffed with truly amazing and QUALIFIED people- and they have REAL levels of care- Doctors, nurses, therapists, counselors, etc. all ON STAFF (Not contracted out or unavailable like most places). All therapists are licensed, qualified, and all truly care. Even the housekeeping and kitchen staff are supportive and amazing folks. Most centers don't even come close. I have been through a lot of programs and I can easily say La Paloma was the most impactful. Don't go to treatment for fancy spas, pools, or lofty promises. -It aint a vacation. Go to a center with real clinical results and the ability to save your life. As long as you are willing to change and participate in your own recovery, you can discover a new way to live. La Paloma is a great facility in Memphis for people that seek help for their Addiction problems. I am Alumni of their sister treatment center in Palm Springs, which saved my life and lead me to sobriety, happiness and a joyful time so far. I had no drink or drug since I left their doors 3 years ago! Their dual diagnosis system is successful and I still feel very good cared for due to their Alumni and aftercare offers. I visited La Paloma in Memphis and it is a wonderful facility with nice staff, caring so well for their clients. I felt immediately part of a family as I entered. If you struggle with any addiction, alcoholism or mental health problems, I can recommend a call to their friendly intake people. They can tell you right away, what they can do for you and which way it is covered. They have many possibilities of care, inpatient, outpatient etc., different length of time. I am an individual and was treated as one. so it's worth to make a call and find out, what may be right for you. I was very pleased with their services and the result: My happy life today! read more
