It's been a while since I was here and there is new ownership. I met Brandon, the owner, bartender, server... He told me about the Maria sandwich, try-tap cooked long so it's tender and served with salsa and chimmichurra on a French bun. He said it was his creation having moved here from CA and named it after his wife. He sold me on it and it was as good as he described. I'd have it again. And it paired well with the pale ale. This place is better than I remembered it and I will be back soon. read more

This was my first visit to The Oaks Pub. We ordered the Pulled Pork Poutine Totchos, The Patty, and a Wedge Salad. First I'd like to comment on the care the kitchen took with presentation- especially with the wedge and the Totchos- everything was carefully layered with attention to detail. The tots were sublime and my burger was incredible. My partner polished off every porky cheesy bite of the Totchos- and it was a hefty plate! They were so good. Also our server was fantastic- speedy service, perfect amount of checking in on us and really sweet and kind. Can't wait to return! read more

Had a great meal in the beer garden area in back- tatchos, burger, fish and chips, wedge salad, all superb and the tiramisu was outstanding. This is under new ownership now and chef Brandon is putting out excellent food, also enjoyed their espresso martini, beer, and Sauvignon blanc. Highly recommend! read more

Came for nacho week. Was offered a drafty bar seat where I sat shivering. Ordered nachos. Was served their standard nachos. Not the nacho week nachos. Server never asked to clarify. So after they delivered the normal nachos, and I said "maybe you should clarify with customers what nachos they ordered" the server didn't care that I never touched their house nachos. They did offer to charge me for another order of nachos though. Not what I ordered. Not what I came here for. read more

Love the patio space, especially the Adirondack chairs. Always a good selection of drinks, and the food never disappoints. Most recently had the fish & chips (beer-battered rockfish) and it now ranks high on my list for fish & chips options. Super-friendly staff. Every year we like to participate in the various food weeks around Portland. This time it was Nacho Week. What a disappointment. Especially as the last time we'd had totchos there they were meal-sized with loads of delicous toppings. Granted, the choice of a pastrami rueben is...different...but the execution, variety in toppings, and amount were severely lacking. Picture a small red & white 1/4 pound french fry container. That's 4 oz. Now through in a handful of (homemade?) chips, some cheese sauce, maybe a couple tablespoons of sauerkraut & pickles, and bits of meat. Possibly there was mustard? In any case, unlike the totchos, a meal it was not. Unlike the last time we had the totchos. The next day we went to Lardo with friends, but were not up for another disappoinment. And then we saw the K-Town Nachos came on a 1/4 sheet tray (not paper french fry container) and people were ordering them right and left. Also for $10. So, yeah, sorry Oaks Pub, if I was writing the haiku like another reviewer did mine would not be so glowing. read more

It was a nice afternoon so went to the back patio. It was perfect I ordered the bacon wrapped poppers - Wow!! Tasty!! A good wrap of crispy (not limp) bacon around a fresh jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese. A real winner that I will be going back for. Perfect with a cold beer. They serve it with great fresh ranch, but to make it absolutely perfection, I would add at least a tablespoon of Franks to give it some zing, and add a bit of acidity to play off all of the richness. I recently had lunch with 2 grade school friends here. I won't even tell you how many decades ago that was. ;-) The restaurant wasn't full. We had our meal and drinks, then spent another 3 hours reminiscing. The waitress was totally hospitable (sorry, forgot her name), and since they weren't crowded at the time let us sit at the table for as long as we wanted. I offered to give up the table twice but she assured me it was no problem since it was a slow day and there was no one waiting. The hospitality there was superb, and the food is good too. The food was not good. Tasted like the Sysco truck rolled in back and dumped the menu in the freezer. I got a Reuben. The bread was thin and fell apart as I ate it. The dressing tasted and looked like Kraft Russian, probably Sysco. There was little sauerkraut at all. The house corned beef was chipped and thick cut, not whole slices. The cheese was supposed to be swiss but was not. They went for 2 round slices of something more mild. It was like it was made by someone who had never had one. The pub fries are awful. None of the 3 orders at our table had a grain of salt on them. All of them were overcooked, brown, hard. Our totcho appetizer was missing listed ingredients. Our server had too many tables and no help. The kitchen prepared our appetizer after our meals. There's a kid menu but no kid cups or lids. We had to get our own water, straws, napkins. Came by on a Saturday and immediately seated. The place is a bit dark and stuffy, but kept an open mind. Our server was timely and organized. I ordered the fish and chips and unfortunately the fish was bland and not cooked very well. The fries were decent - a bit wider than in and out but had almost same type of flavor. we moved here from austin a year ago and have been searching for a good breakfast spot that serves good biscuits and gravy, and sadly NOWHERE has it (even places that claim it's the best, lol), but THIS place has the best without question. Literally the worst plate of food that has ever been served to me in any restaurant in my life. We should've known when we walked in on a Saturday at brunch time in a charming neighborhood and there was nobody in there except one other person. I guess the word has gotten around, but didn't get to us in time. I had the "biscuits and gravy". Four round discs of some kind of cardboard material...those were the biscuits. I've never seen or experienced a biscuit of that kind. I don't know what it was supposed to be. The gravy was completely flavorless and bland. The round sausage patties also had absolutely no flavor. I don't know if they were sausage. It was some kind of mystery meat. I don't know where they get the nerve to charge money and serve that food to people looking to have a nice brunch. You should really be ashamed. Just awful. Later on in the day I had the runs and I think it was probably from this nasty food. read more

Best thing about the place were the monitors showing sports. Food was average at best, place was slow around 5pm but no one up front to seat us. Not a big deal but annoying since their sign said to "Wait to be Seated". Waitress serving us had an attitude and didn't want to be at work. Parking sucked. Love the changes going on here...There's a vibe to the place that was missing before. Beer list is fresh and a great mashup of PNW breweries. Also, so many TVs- sports- sports- sports! Gonna try and stop in for Opening Day. Baseball overload. The WINGS are a must- perfect balance between crispy and juicy. Dry rub hits all the notes- salty, savory, sweet, spicy. Yum. I've only been here 3 times, as I'm new to this amazing Westmoreland neighborhood, but every time has been awesome! Friendly, earnest servers, cozy & fun atmosphere, great food! I had a burger the first couple times (the one slathered in blue cheese) and decided to take it easy on the summer waistline with a salad most recently. Sounds boring right? But the delicata squash squash salad was wonderful (and filling!) on a warm spring day! Just tried this place out with a friend for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I am really thankful they have food other than burgers and sandwiches! I ordered the soup+salad+bread combo. I added grilled chicken to my salad and had it with the lemon-herb vinaigrette. I ordered the veggie chili for my soup. They also had clam chowder as a soup option that day. The portions were generous and the food was good! The bread could have been a tiny bit softer but it was all still very enjoyable. They have plenty of seating in front and inside the restaurant as we all as a cute little patio with shaded seating. We also had really friendly service which is always something I'm grateful for! Maybe the cook was having a bad day. My fish and Jeff's tots a little over-cooked/-crisped; my fries were dry. They were pretty busy. The waitress Sydney was the only server and she did five-star work. Jeff did enjoy his burger. They are very generous with their potatoes, but if the potatoes aren't cooked right. . . Very good beer selection, and it just happened to be Monday--$4.50 pints. read more

1st rain in Portland after a long dry spell. Met friends that I haven't seen in a long time. We sat outside (pet a few dogs) and ate until the rain started. Went inside and talked some more. Great food. Generous drinks. Quick service. Reasonable prices. I explained we were catching up and our server easily left us to talk without making us feel forgotten. After a horrible experience last time resulting in my family deciding never again, a friend suggested it before a movie there were 7 of us and we all ordered salads and one order of wings. It took an hour, despite her coming by multiple times to say it was "coming right up." Our delicata squash salads seemed to be made with butternut squash instead. They have an attractively priced Happy Hour menu 3 pm - 6pm and 6pm to close. The service is spotty at best. I don't know where they disappear to. Oh, wait yes I do. They all seem to run to the bar and hang out. It has never taken so long to get refills or to get a second dressing. About all, you can take from them. The food is way better than most pub food. They mix it up to give a little idea they make their own food. Each item is unique to this menu. I am a big fan of the wings and the burgers. The highlight for me is always the beet salad. The bell tomatoes they put in here along with the cheese and sunflower seeds. It's the big enough to share. The happy hour menu is filled with all the good stuff. Unlike other restaurants, their happy hour goes till 6 pm. You know for people who work and would still like to get off for a drink without costing an arm and a leg. There is also a unique day that the Happy Hour menu is run all day. It is simply overpowering how good the food is. One can and definitely should ignore the service. The wait is worth it. Also a note worth mentioning. The place seems to be employee run. Having stopped twice late at night attempting to get a meal. Both times within over an hour of closing time and trying to get some food to go. I was told the kitchen was closed or they were not seating anyone else. I guess mind what time you want to stop by or be prepared to be let down. I guess the surrounding neighborhood shuts down early. read more

We came here for a quick beer before heading to Saburo's for dinner. Unluckily and sadly, Saburo's was closed for the holiday weekend. My friend got the Philly steak sandwich and was not impressed and the buffalo wings were dry and hard too. (The ones at 7-11 tasted better) Whatever you did, change back!
