[[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a nice place and is different and eclectic.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a restaurant on one side and a lively bar on the other side.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]On the other side of the restaurant tucked in the corner, you have chefs making sushi at a bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I appreciated that they don't blast music and it's dim and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food and drinks were good and the service was great.

Food is always fresh and delicious! You can choose to sit by the sushi bar, booth seating, outside seating, or the bar and watch sports. Service is great, ask for Kaylee (hope I'm spelling that correctly) she has the best personality!!!

Well mannered , knowledgeable about the menu , sincere all well moving with a purpose. He treated us a lonely table of 2 like we were his only priority well simultaneously handling a 10 , 4 and 6 top. We sat in the side dining room facing the kitchen pass. We watched 6 pros handle business. Minimal words just chin gestures and some pointing. Some serious heat was moving thru that kitchen being passed to runners that kept that fire alive calling for garnish extra sauce and accoutrements as if it was Orchestra.Food was phenomenal. Egregious portions. Flavors layer. Sweet salty fatty creamy one after another nothing standing too far out or too far behind. The spice in the seafood dish was about right to let you know it was there but not over stay it's welcome. Plump seafood with a clean finish. We shared a bite with each other and went for seconds. The dessert a catcher's mitt size of chunk of old style ricotta cheese cake. Mind you all this was happening when they were serving a wedding of 50 in the back room. Two cons. The a/c wasn't working it was a little warm. I won't harp too much on that we had extreme weather the day prior. Number 2 . Truffle oil. The table next to us ordered truffle fries. We smelt it , the table on the far side of us smelt it. Truffle oil is so strong you can smell it on your clothes the next day.

Right now they have a tiki theme, however, that's it in my opinion as far as draw to keep going there. The drinks are an overpriced smoke screen for people who want to waste money on a sugary drink. And it goes along with the whole Asbury Park eclectic vibe but most of the drinks have a 5 or more ingredients I never heard of (which is fine) but it waters down the drink. I don't want to have a drink (or pay $15+ for a drink) that tastes like a fruity cup of juice. As far as the limited food suggestions on the menu- only 2 or 3- this is the third time we've been there and they said they were out of food -so then take it off your menu if you can't be consistent!!! We're not just going to keep drinking without anything to eat to go along with it. As far as the service it's inconsistent, when we sat down there was only two of us- The server was very nice but we waited too long for our drinks. A party of 7 came in about 1/2 hour after us and they had their drinks within 5 minutes- that should never be. After one drink we got the check and we left, we are completely scratching it off our list, we will not return there. It does bum me out because it has such potential and there's nothing like it around but I'm not going to visit an establishment where I walk away feeling it was a waste of money.

The Matcha Matcha Man was smooth, creamy, and dangerously easy to drink -- the matcha coconut cream with the ginger beer gave it such a unique refreshing kick. The Lady Marmalade tasted like sunshine in a glass with the perfect citrusy balance and just enough sweetness from the marmalade. The food menu is definitely more small plates/appetizer style, but honestly everything tasted super fresh and packed with flavor. The coconut shrimp were jumbo and crispy with the perfect sweetness, the mango habanero chicken bites super fresh, and the wagyu sliders disappeared embarrassingly fast. The real star though? The outdoor lounge setup overlooking the ocean. It's the kind of place where you go for "one drink" and suddenly it's three hours later and you're debating ordering another round just to stay for sunset. If you are looking for very high quality food from a restaurant that does not skimp on details, you will not be disappointed. Everything was SO delicious and so much attention and care was put into everything. Everything, and I made everything, is made in-house. The bread and crackers were excellent. The prime beef tartar was tasty, but the flavors were slightly strong on some pieces. We nearly ordered two of the Blue Fin Tuna Tartar because it was so incredibly fresh (the fish was purchased at the market that morning). The Moroccon Cigar with filo and lamb was fried to perfection. The filet mignon was PERFECTLY cooked (drool). But my absolute favorite was the plum and apple galette- oh my gosh. If you like fruity desserts, this was to die for. I would go back just for this. But the details are what made dinner a truly special experience. The menu covers are made from a high quality leather. The steak knives are engraved. Everyone was seated in different areas of the restaurant for added privacy. As I mentioned, EVERYTHING is homemade. When we left, we received two homemade cookies. Aside from the server making a couple of comments that made me feel like I was a woman living in 1945, service was exceptional and the diversity of the staff was wonderful! We ordered one drink, two appetizers, two entrees and a dessert and spent around $200 with tip. Overall, a fantastic experience. I will be back soon.

Very cool that Venue 618 was the only NJ restaurant to make the recent Yelp Top 100 restaurants in the US. Sitting at the bar, we were served by Zoey, Steve, and Mike. They've re-done their cocktail menu to include beautiful color illustrations. I enjoyed "One in a Melon," a well-balanced whiskey cocktail with Frank August small batch bourbon, melon, poblano pepper, Aperol, and lime. This was followed by a tasty whiskey sour. My wife ordered a Lemon Drop martini, followed by a decadent chocolate-pistachio dessert martini. All of the cocktails were well-balanced and delicious. On the food side, I munched on a baked macaroni & cheese with chorizo. It was perfect! The Death of Hospitality brand thrives on personalization and unexpected surprises. Mixologist Steve, realizing that I'm a whiskey afficionado, surprised me with a small pour of Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel bourbon. This is a difficult bottle to find in New Jersey. Rock Hill Farms was incredible, with a super long finish. Thanks for the memories 618!
