Fellow Yelp-Man Alfredo made the right call on this one: It's "a sneaky-good sports bar". More than one date night has either started here or included a drop-in @ the Old Barn. It seems to me it used to have a bit more of a CW flavor, and now is more mainstream. 'Salright, it's still a good mix of old regulars and a younger, adult student-aged set (PCC Sylvania is about a mile up the road, across I5). A female comedienne, whose name now escapes me, memorably once quipped that everyone in the world, except for 75% of the women, wants to have sex, pretty much all the time. The "other 25%" of the girlies seem to consistently have a strong presence, a mighty good showing at the Old Barn, for whatever reason. Mind you, this is by no means scientific, empirically-driven data we're talkin' here. Just an observation. When asked how I liked going to The Old Barn my response was "It was okay", which is to say it wasn't bad. It also translates to I won't be suggesting that we go there again, but if someone asks me to meet them there I won't decline. The Server was most excellent, very attentive and nice. The food menu is actually pretty good for a bar, the prices are about average. They have a HH food menu that looked like a good deal. Drinks are what you'd expect, average, not bad, not amazing. The atmosphere is "local hangout." Most of the seating is bar stool height. They have Free Wifi and a few TVs. I went for Wednesday Night Trivia - The "TJ" is great. I ordered a Grilled Chicken Salad ($7.95) and my friends ordered a Chef Salad ($7.95)and 2 Pancakes($5). The Salads were okay, iceberg lettuce with generous toppings, the chicken was prepared well. Possibly my favorite watering hole in Southwest. It's really just your average, straight-up standard neighborhood bar. It's not trying to be a british pub or anything else like that. It's not too dive-y and not too much of a sports-bar... though there ARE about 96 TVs in the place. The staff is pretty awesome. The food, depending on what you order, is either about on par with standard bar-food or surprisingly good. Pros: Its free to play NTN trivia which is super fun Fairly clean. Cons: Food was just okay and pretty expensive for the quality. We came here looking for a bar to watch the World Series Game 4 (editorial: Aww yeah Giants!) and this place ended up being a ton of fun. We weren't expecting to show up on a trivia night, and the crowd that was there for it were really cool. No jerks, no nitpicking, just laid back high-fiving, a little woo-ing, and so on. The food was...bar food, about what you'd expect, but their happy hour prices definitely kept me from having too much beef about it. We had burgers(meh) and chicken fingers (yum!) and plenty of fries to soak up our cocktails. There were tvs in every direction you could swivel your head, and the server we had was nice and decently attentive, despite the fact that this place was pretty hopping for a Sunday night (I thought). The drinks were priced well and not weak at all. This is not swanky by any means, but it's not a dive, or an old barn for that matter, either. Prices are good, drinks are good, and people are nice. I have been coming here for years. More so when I lived in the area. I love the staff here. Always fun and attentive. They have really good food as well. Not too pricy for food or drinks. I've had some fun nights here, also have never had any bartender be as rude to me as the male bartender. Food is basic bar food. Drinks are basic. Karaoke here is a good time, because it's not very busy and the kj is nice. I'd like to recommend this place more, but the one bad experience left a horrible taste in my mouth. read more

I won't lie, the reason I go here most of the time is because it's directly across the street from my apartment and that makes for a convenient comfort food meal. That said, they cook surprisingly good food! I wouldn't have expected that from a bar, but there it is. The clam chowder on Friday is especially good -- creamy, full of savory flavor, and better than any I've had anywhere else -- and if you ask for a bowl of it, you get a BIG bowl. It's an entire meal. I've also had their honey fried chicken, which was crispy and delicately sweet. I'd definitely order it again. The only thing I've had here that I wasn't so excited about was a club sandwich. But who cares, it's a club sandwich. Hah! I haven't really done any drinking here, but my friends are all wild about the jello shots. The only thing I don't like about this place is the seating. I can't imagine what one would have to do to make management here extremely rude - the owners are some of the nicest people, and certainly the nicest bar owners I've met. This place is just plain awesome. Not sure I'd call it a 'dive bar' though, previous places I used to patronize across town were certainly trashier and what I would consider 'dive bars' but this is more of a sports bar. I've been trying to get the missus to hang out at the Old Barn for years, seeing I live in the neighborhood. But I gave up and now its a guys joint. A satellite man cave if you will. This is a quintessential neighborhood watering hole. I'm good for a stop off on the way home from work for a beer (they have a good tap selection) after getting off the bus at Barbur TC if its a bus day. They got a lot of new TV's n there now so it's great for games as well. The other reviews are right, the food is above average for bar food. The layout is a lot better now they got rid of the pool table. In a nutshell: Great local bar with good bar food, good beer, good for sports, Keno, trivia, and sometimes poker. Love this place but then again I love dive bars! Been frequenting for many years off and on. It's a nice location for people on both the east and westside to meet up. Generally not too crowded that you can't get served. Love that they have Stella on tap:) I primarily frequent for happy hour business meetings. They do have TV's and video games. My experience with the bartenders has been good overall. Either the first or last friday of the month they have oyster stew and razor clams. That night tends to draw a crowd. read more

The Old Barn is about what you would expect with a few possible surprises. I didn't expect it to function as such a great sports bar! It's the perfect spot to watch a game as they have TVs facing every seat in the house. I did expect some sort of bar special but was pleased to find it entailed $2 PBRs during games, food specials during NFL, Beaver games and even games of that other school in Eugene as well as free popcorn during same. It looks like they have a pretty decent Superbowl party planned too. As for other amenities, I expected video lotto machines and such, but I wasn't expecting scratch-its! I was expecting a trivia night (Wednesdays), but I wasn't expecting this bar to offer $1 jello shots! Sweet! I expected a typical bar food menu but I was surprised to see bar tacos! I am rather fond of bar tacos. I expected based on their location that they would be easily accessible for public transit, but was pleased to find they are right next to the transit center! If I was a smoker, I would expect to stand outside in the rain and cold while smoking, but they do have a covered area for that. I was also expecting and kind of hoping for a surly bartender, but actually she was quite nice. Sadly my real surprise came in the form of the tap list. It was more like a beer list from five years ago. I'm not sure what finally got me into the Old Barn, but I've been driving past it for a decade (or 2) and always wondered about it. The good reviews on Yelp mixed with poor reviews must be an indication of BAD night vs GOOD night. We hit this place on a BAD night, obviously. However, it was so bad, we won't ever return. The exterior and interior are a bit rough around the edges. It needs updating, badly. The TVs are plentiful and you could do fine with a brew and watching a game, but that's where I'd leave it. If the food and service had been decent, it would be a great dive bar, which we love! Food/Drinks/Service: Good drinks, they do not skimp on the pours, but they weren't overly done either. On to the food: I'll start with the notable fact that they make their own soup, which was pretty good, a bit salty, but not bad. That was the only nice surprise and reason for the single star. Typical bar food is good-decent and happy hour prices are good. **But do not, what ever you do, DO NOT ORDER non-bar food here, like full meals such as steaks, prime rib, fish, etc. The steaks are tough, 'leather which has seen the ice age tough', flavorless and dry. They offer baked potato, and both ours were so undercooked, it was as if it was pulled straight from the ground, warmed by the sun and opened with a Samurai sword topped with some orange tasteless cheese. We had them sent back to be re-cooked. They were replaced (15mins later AFTER our meals were mostly choked down) with slightly softer potatoes, but still way undercooked. We were told the cook is new as the excuse for the poor quality. However, I know young children can cook a baked potato. Primary rule: when it's soft, it means it's done. Test it before you send it out. Service was pathetic, frankly. We had to ask for silverware, the accompaniments to the meal on more than 1 occasion. The next day I realized I never received the onion rings which were supposed to be with the steak that I paid for. The server's job is to make sure what is ordered is on the plate, such as sauces, sides, arrives on the table. She was so spaced out, we had to ask for everything, EVERYTHING. She needs to consider a career change. Service industry is not her bag. She was a master at making excuses as to why things were sub par when she knew were were unsatisfied, rather than try to make things right. ZERO initiative. We paid for all our food, even the items (i.e. onion rings) which never came plus a 15+% tip against our better judgement, as 0% was deserved. We love dive bars and a lot of them have great food, but the Old Barn is the bottom of the barrel. I wish I had just kept driving by for the next decade or 2! read more

I came here because a Meetup is being held here. Her reason is that it's close to where she lives. The place is old, the carpets are old, the place is dingy and low-lit, even in the daytime, which is when I went. Perfect place for bar flies to hang out. And the "music" genre being played didn't fit with the "decor" or ambience. It was rap, which I can't abide. Plus, the bathrooms are NOT ADA "friendly." Anyone with any girth at all couldn't fit into one of the ladies' restrooms at all and no handrails - although the one bathroom couldn't have spared the space. There's not even a door on the single stall for the same reason. The single handicap parking space was not well marked either. Anyway, I was hungry and ordered a Cobb salad with bleu cheese dressing. The salad was terrible and the dressing was NASTY and had absolutely no bleu cheese chunks in it whatsoever. I didn't finish the salad, nor did I take it home with me, which I usually do if I can't finish something. It was really bad. My friend had ordered a soda pop and it ended up showing up on my bill - although, after it was pointed out to me, I didn't actually get charged for it. I had had a small spat with my friend and was still a little upset about that, and I think it carried over when I looked at the bill and the pop was on it and said to the gal that I hadn't ordered a pop. I wasn't rude or anything, and didn't get nasty or cuss her out, (not that I'm prone to cussing people out) but she got upset and proceeded to tell me that I didn't need to be so "snappy" and to look and see that I hadn't actually been charged for it, then started complaining that I had insulted her ability to do her job correctly. The thing to have done would have been to make sure the soda didn't show up on my bill in the first place! She probably didn't want to take the time or effort to reprint it. And honestly, it wasn't that busy. I did apologize to her for my upset tone, but she wasn't having it. I gave her a 10% tip. I usually give 20%. I hope that was enough of a hint to her to see that other people can have a bad day, too and not to take it that personally. I'm sure she deals with a whole lot worse seeing as how she's a bartender in that sort of establishment. What happened to customer service, anyway? Really, unless you have absolute reason to go there, which I unfortunately did, I don't recommend this place, for any reason - it's terrible!!! If I could give a 1/2 star, I would have! read more

The most uninviting bar I've ever been to! A couple of friends and I stopped in for trivia tonight and were told at the bar to have a seat if we'd like to order. I've had a horrible experience at the Old Barn. I went there to grab dinner and a beer. I first asked whether the bartender had a red ale to which he answered that he did not. I ordered something else sat down and saw him talk with the waitress about how "I hate these people that come in an ask do you have this or that don't they see that taps". I ignored that he then went on to make an inapropriate joke about butt grabbing. He then blasted music while I was trying to watch the NBA game. The bartender and the cocktail waitress were helpful and really funny. They had a great selection of boozes and the food was decent bar food that came out fast. The World Cup is on here every day, and I appreciate that. I appreciate it even more because the handfull of regulars who have been drinking here every day for 20 years think "soccer is lame." But lunch time means the last half of whatever game is on and a sandwich at Old Barn. The 80 year old women who play those video lottery machines that make the annoying Vegas like noises and drink vodka crans at 1:30 pm on a Tuesday worry me a little bit. But they have really good soup, a killer club sandwich, and the waitresses are seriously awesome. Every one I've ever had there has been really great. Pretty small place but it's great for Games because you're never that far from a TV. During Oregon games you get free hot dogs and they have $2 coors lights, so you can get a lot of bang for your buck. Better to get beer than cocktails though, the one our friend ordered was almost undrinkable. But other than that, it's a cool spot. read more

The beer selection was fine and the outdoor heated smoking area is really nice to have. But the food was God awful. I mean really bad. Ive eaten here before for breakfast and that was perfectly fine. But this time we ordered buffalo wings and they were inedible. Burnt down to the bone. I had one and said nope. I honestly didn't bother sending them back. I mean if you delivered them like that the first time, you don't care enough to do it any better the second time. If you're are coming here with some friends to hang out, smoke and get drunk. We love the Old Barn. Having never been, we stumbled in one night for a nightcap. Mitch served our 'regular' cocktails, chatted up the staff and left. Returned a month later and were shocked when Mitch remembered not only our names but our drinks. It's almost like a second home to us now (my husband loves Serena and Bill.) Great, friendly, neighborhood place. Servers always take terrific care of you and it seems as though 'everybody knows your name.' We love it! read more

I don't live to far from this place and have been wanting to try the food here. I was in the mood for a bar burger, so me and my wife gave it a try. The burger was excellent, my wife got the fish & chips, they were really good. The clam chowder was one of the best I've ever had. The gal that waited on us was fantastic. This place has fantastic food--and the best tomato soup on the planet! I was awestruck when I ordered what I thought would be regular old canned soup and was served their amazing homemade recipe.
