The food was okay. I think it's overpriced for what you get. And don't get the orange juice unless you want to pay ALOT for it

Think Bavarian Denny's with a heftier price tag! First, when we were seated we asked to sit at a booth. Apparently this is a huge inconvenience as our server/hostess got tight lipped and an angry set to her jaw and without a word dropped our menus on a booth table-too. We ordered the French press coffee. It was weaker than most drip coffees and it cost $4.00. (When we left we actually went to get real coffee.) We ordered scrambles. They came as omelettes. We sent them back. A few seconds later they came back. We ate chopped omelettes. My husband orders sliced tomatoes with his scramble. They were pale orangish green and crisp... That was my second disappointment at The Old European. I don't get why people give it good ratings. I won't be back. read more

I used to really love this place, but the food and service have gone so far downhill. The portions are small and overpriced. I ordered an omelet with avocado and it was way past it's prime, all brown, mushy and tasting off. Their gravy is awful. My kids mostly stuck to pancakes, and even those were underwhelming. Absolutely wonderful! The service is incredible and the fresh squeezed juice is to die for. My mom got the French press coffee and she said it was amazing. Our server brought us a free sample of blueberry aebleskivers which were soft, warm, and delicious. Our server has been very chatty and kind. The restaurant is following all covid 19 precautions and my mom and I felt safe dining in. The decor is very nice, it feels like you are in a grandmothers home in the best way. I got the banana French toast and a plate of bacon both were perfectly cooked. The bananas were even at the perfect ripeness. My mom got the aebleskivers with blackberry brandy syrup, German sausage, and scrambled eggs. It was presented beautifully and she said it tasted rich and satisfying. I cannot recommend this place enough! I am only staying in Pullman for two days and I plan to come here again before my trip is done. I love this place, when ever friends or family come in from out of town I always take them here for breakfast. There fresh squeezed OJ, home made toast and jam, and any one of the breakfast items I've had have been fantastic. I have heard complaints about this place before, but I have not experienced anything negative. If you come here on a weekend where there is an event going on at the University good luck getting in. read more

It's a bit pricey, but you definitely won't leave disappointed. I had the Goulash, Ableskivers, and some Coffee. It was so much food, but it was really tasty. The hot sauce was really good too! I almost couldn't eat it all b/c it was so much food, but I managed to get it all down, and was full for the rest of the day. read more

Our son is a sophomore at WSU and we just recently found this gem when moving him in this summer. This place is amazing. You will not leave hungry! We recently went for Dad's weekend. During this crazy and busy weekend the food and service was fantastic! I highly recommend the potato pancakes, sausage and havarti Aebleskivers (get a side of gravy to go with them), and cinnamon rolls! I have been a long time customer at the old European, as I have found it to be a nice spot to bring family and friends to brunch. Normally, the service is very good. But after today, I will unfortunately not be coming back. A group of friends and I went to get breakfast together and our service was absolutely the worst. After waiting 40 minutes to be seated, we waited an hour and a half for our food to get to our table because our waitress forgot to put our orders into the register. Of course this was an accident and is understandable. However, after being informed about this, our service became awful. Not all of our food was brought out, even after the whole mishap. When we brought up that some of our food items still hadn't come with our meals, the servers became hostile towards our table. Because of this, I spoke with the manager, who responded in a very passive manner and dismissed our frustrations with the hour and a half of sitting without any food and having missing items as frustration with the forty minute wait. After I explained to her that the 40 minute wait was not the issue, the mishap with our orders and the dismissive and passive treatment was, we were given two $5 gift cards (they're really more like $5 off coupons for next visit) , which she condescendingly tossed onto the table. Further, we expressed that this was not adequate enough for us, she gave us 2 more $5 gift cards and said, "for those of you that would come back, these are for you." Because our frustrations were not handled appropriately, we feel very strongly about not returning to the old European. There are much better options in the Palouse region, such as Zoe's coffee kitchen or The breakfast club. I know those places would not treat their customers in the manner that we were treated at the old European. read more

I work for one of the local universities in athletics. One of my primary tasks over spring break was to make sure all my sport's student-athletes had four good team meals. For one of those meals I selected Old Euro. The manager was excellent to work with, I gave her a few weeks notice that we would be bringing 68 hungry people in and they readily took the challenge. We sent our order in in advance and they served everyone in about 15- 20 minutes and had us out the door in just one hour- which is great when you are feeding such a large group... Amazing food and excellent service! Would recommend to anyone! Definitely a fan of the Goulash and Aebleskivers with a cup of coffee. Our only issue was that our vegans found the menu options for them to be limited, but in the end went with the oatmeal and were content. We will be returning next spring break. read more

What a fun treat. I enjoyed a late breakfast at the Old European with my son. We arrived around 11 am on a Sunday to a packed house. Despite the hordes of people, the wait was reasonable. Staff were friendly. Menu seemed substantial for breakfast fare. I'm guessing our food took a bit longer than expected because our server brought us out a sample of blueberry aebleskivers and apologised for the wait - we honestly didn't notice. Regardless, it was a nice touch. Food was delicious. My son ordered the sausage eggs benny and I had the cake plate. After devouring his food, my son happily helped finish mine. Portions seemed large, so I'm not sure how he does it. read more

Service was horrible, they messed up our checks and had to keep reprinting them. Line to get in was very long, and I no longer wonder why, the service is a huge contributer. Ordered a cream cheese cinnamon roll that was dry and hard with not enough frosting, and the fruit bowl was slimy and tasted as of it was sitting out. Fresh squeezed orange juice was about the only upside to breakfast. Also, very overpriced on my opinion. Disappointed, never going back. Also, our group of 9 was split up in to a table of 6 and a table of 3, they would not move the tables together for us. No point on going to breakfast as a group if we can't eat together. read more

We were invited to lunch last Friday by Grandpa, who has eaten many times at Old European restaurant. It wasn't super busy, but there was a decent amount of diners We had a pleasant, but very distracted waitperson, E**. We had to ask several times for our children's food to be delivered, for the promised whipped cream and fruit to be added to the baby's pancake, which we had to pay extra for as it was buckwheat, and we had to remind her she said she would bring one for him, and then we had to ask again for the butter and syrup, etc. to be delivered, for our drinks to be delivered and we never received the waters we asked for either, but had given up trying. So the youngest members of our group were unable to eat and our food got cold as we waited for it to come. With my spouse being on his lunch break, this was a significant wait. When all was delivered they enjoyed their meals. My father in law paid the bill in cash, which he gave to E**, telling her to keep the change. We finished up our meal and then took the kids to the restroom to wash up and this took at least a good ten minutes before we actually went outside the restaurant. My relatives own many restaurants in the Midwest and I've managed a few and I've waited tables for a long time as well. What happened next left my family feeling very uncomfortable and that's why, after waiting to think this through, I messaged the management via their Facebook page. It has gone unanswered for a week. That is so unprofessional. There is no way to contact them privately via email, either, so now I'm writing this review.. AFTER the host, who paid the bill in cash and parked where he could be seen from the hostess stand, drove away, E** came outside seeking money. This makes it about 15 minutes after she had the money in hand to count and deal with while the person who gave her the money was there to work with and who knew what he'd done. To wait until he had driven away and then to tell us we owed her another $10 (my husband paid the $10 and added tip as well) leaves us wondering WHY. I've had to deal with waitstaff who have used this tactic when they felt their tip was not good enough. I want to add that while E** was not rude or unpleasant, she was very distracted and the service suffered considerably. She didn't earn an average tip. To have to be reminded over and over and over about normal service isn't a good experience for the customers. I don't feel comfortable with this experience and it's too bad, because this area needs quality restaurants with quality ingredients badly. I wish there were more places that served REAL FOOD. And now that the management/owners have not seen fit to check their messages and if they have read it, have not chosen to respond, well, I'm not inclined to go back or recommend this place at all. read more

I found my favorite new spot for breakfast when I visit Pullman. The atmosphere and food at the Old European truly reminded me of my time spent in Germany years ago. The potato pancakes, Hungarian Goulash, French toast, blackberry brandy sauce, abelskavers, cream cheese cinnamon roll, and fresh-squeezed orange juice were all delicious and the service was impeccable. They make everything from scratch every day. They even make their own hot sauce and jam! This is a definite must-try place if you go to Pullman. read more

Disappointing. We went here after several recommendations from friends only to find that the food was average to low quality. The service was slow and poor, and there was a long curly hair cooked into my wife's pancake. After finding the hair it was difficult to continue eating, so we paid and left unsatisfied with food still on our plates. read more

The gravy was a step above water, the biscuits were bland and were obviously made from bisquick mix... very disappointed in the food from a "traditional" restaurant who is far from traditional. It's very inconsistent. The first time I came I thought "it's not the best, but it's he beat in Pullman." The price is too expensive for mediocre. I went once more with friends and I absolutely loved it. It was an amazing experience and I wanted to go again. The next few times I went it wasn't as great. When I went for my birthday the food was horrible and I didn't even get a birthday dessert. For the price im paying I would like consistency. I understand things are homemade but there is no excuse to charge that much to be inconsistent. Won't come back. So if anyone wants a coupon I have one cause that's how they tried to convince me they were sorry. read more

Recommend coming in early so you can beat the rush. The regular coffee is very good, they also have a specialty coffee that is great. Highly recommend German potato pancakes are fabulous especially with the hot sauce. The hot sauce is unique to Old European and it will melt your face off its so hot! The waiters are nice and patient. The service is great. The orange juice is good but costs 5 dollars for a small glass. That's more then a glass of wine. The food is a bit pricy and there small portions. They do have really good pancakes. If you want pancakes then come here. If you want meat and eggs or omelets then go somewhere else. They did give me these free sausage rolls for my first time in here though. The place is very cozy and nicely decorative. They also gave me a 5 dollar gift card for my first time.
