This might be my fave Whiskey Bar in PDX. Great selection of Whiskeys, at a fair price, and a very knowledgable staff. Cocktails are awesome. They usually have a great Single Barrel available that they hand select. Latest was a tasty Old Forester. Good stuff. Food and atmosphere are great with a nice covered and heated patio to hang in. This place is legit.

We had a perfect first time experience there recently. There is no table service - so we sat at the bar to be served. Bartender was charming, attentive and helpful. We shared the ELK BURGER - moist, flavorful, delicious, unique. It came with SALT & PEPPER BEER-BATTERED FRENCH FRIES - crispy, salty nomnom. Hubby had the HAND-POPPED POPCORN and loved it. I had the SEASONAL SOUP = tasted like home. We also sampled our way down the cocktail menu and were not disappointed. Will be back!

Hal is the best bartender around! Food is fantastic, always have a good time here. The Whiskey selection is huge and the cocktails strong.

I'm happy I got to come back here to review it. One of the best neighborhood bars in NE Portland great food great drinks. Did I mention they have a whiskey club over 50 whiskeys to try. The food came out fast and it was delicious gotta try the fried chicken sandwich and the fries are addicting as is. Good patio especially when the sun is out. Will definitely be back

Honestly one of my tried and true spots. Always consistently good food, service and can't beat the location. They have done SO much to make their space safe. Distanced, masks, tons of patio space, and even signs that tell you if a table is dirty or clean. The banh mi is on a perfect roll, it's spicy but not too bad and the chicken is well seasoned. I cannot resist fries here bc they're beer battered and so crispy! The popcorn is our go to. Even if just going for drinks you've gotta get a bowl for the table! Highly recommend this spot! Fun place to bring friends, fam or a date!

The garlic fries were spicy in the best way, perfectly crisp, and served steaming hot. The Duck Stack (pancakes covered with duck gravy, onions, and a duck egg) sounded a bit odd to me (and probably many others). When I asked the server if it was good, they told me that people travel to the restaurant specifically for that dish. I'm glad I tried it. Again, very unique with a well balanced spice profile paired with the delicious undertones of a hot pancake. I know I would have never thought of that, doesn't sound like it should work, but....it worked! Service was great, atmosphere was a bit loud with a band playing next door, it was a bit overwhelming, plus a random dude walked into the restaurant and a server lit his joint for him as a courtesy(?)...stunk the place up for a few minutes, but as I thought about it, I decided that was about the most "Portland" thing I had seen all week on my trip :) I'll be going back for sure, I would love to taste through that entire menu. So I stepped inside. There was music playing from the back of the building and I just kept moving towards the music. After 2 doorways, my husband remarked it was like we were entering a speakeasy. We stepped into a living room and proceeded through another doorway to find an open kitchen and jaw dropping red alder dining table. Standing in the kitchen was Chef Riley Eckersley and he greeted us like we were old friends. He had a couple of cocktails ready to pour and explained his concept of his place that has only been open for 3 weeks. Imagine an intimate dinner party (6 guests the night I was there) gathering for conversation while being taken on a culinary journey around Oregon. Throughout the evening, every detail was carefully curated, from the ingredients (from the coast to the mountains, he covered every corner), to the plating, music, and drinks (everything from mezcal, sake, orange wine, etc). The whole experience lasts 2 1/2-3 hours and I enjoyed every minute. I will certainly return as the menu changes with the seasons of Oregon. I basically chilled in my room after checking in and took the time to relax before my reservation. I walked over from my hotel which took under 10 minutes. The perfect amount of time to work up an appetite. The last time I was here, I did the tasting menu with a couple of friends. This time around I was by myself which meant it was less food. I chose the seat at the very corner of the bar. I had a full view of the kitchen and the chaos. Plates of food came flying down my corner. I went in so hard in the beginning and crashed so hard at the end. I couldn't hang by the last one, but saved room for the dessert. They ended up wrapping my leftovers along with the snacks I didn't finish. I went to town on all the food the following morning. Just like last time, the dish that stood out the most was the pasta dish. One of the servers caught me mid shimmy after I took the first bite. I have to mention how amazing the service was. I'm always impressed when a busy kitchen staff has their shit together. It's poetry in motion. How they don't crash into each other when so much is happening. Every person who dropped by my corner was so nice and friendly. Most importantly, I didn't feel rushed. The post meal calamansi treat was a nice touch. It woke my senses. I'm glad I had dinner early. By the time I was finishing up, more patrons were checking in for their reservations. I walked back to my hotel with my bag of leftovers and a j to enjoy on my stroll to end a fabulous Friday. When we got there in time for our reservation, the host was on the phone making us wait a few minutes for his attention. Then, we were seated near the main passageway at a fourtop even though we were just two and there were a lot of two tops available for the early reservation. Our female server was rushed from the get go. While I was perusing the drink menu, she ran off to get my partner his wine because he had decided already. She wasn't willing to wait 5 seconds for me to decide. She was in a hurry to service other diners. It wound up being this way throughout the meal. There was constant rushing and not paying attention to us. It felt awkwardly harried. The problem with the food was my dish came half hot, half cold. The quail was hot and very flavorful while the pureed peas and potatoes were served cold under the quail. Normally, I would send it back for this, but I was too hungry and didn't want to hassle it. This entree was $38. But the biggest offense was that I wrote the restaurant about my experience and they did not respond. I might give a place another chance if they cared enough to hear from their customers and apologize, but that didn't happen. Hence this review.

Other steakhouses usually include some main course options for non beef eaters, but here it's just the $45 halibut. We all liked the nicely flavorful side dishes meant for sharing and would encourage everyone to try those. Oddly, there's this disconnect: The place is very "come as you are" aka Portland casual, with server in jeans, some guests in shorts, etc. That's fine, even good, if you know that in advance or if you're at a fast casual place where you order at a counter, for example. But we didn't know that and we went there for a special occasion so the vibe felt off, thinking others would have also approached it as more of an upscale experience. The place is huge. Massive tent out front along Burnside (sitting in there would make it even more casual) plus the indoor space with bar seating. You probably can make a request for indoors or outdoors when you make a res. Allow extra time for parking there on a neighborhood side street.
