Came here for Portland Dining Month and got the $35 and $55 course and thoroughly enjoyed! The service was attentive and we felt very looked after. The waiter came by several times to check in on us and served each course right after we finished the previous course. The seafood was absolutely delicious and everything was seasoned to perfection. I probably wouldn't get the pork again because it was pretty dry but I would definitely come back to try more of their seafood offerings. The lemon curd peppercorn meringue was also delicious and was executed perfectly- such a unique combination. read more

I had this reservation saved for a while and finally made an RSVP for six on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 6:15pm to celebrate a childhood friend's birthday and our family's 30 years in the United States. We were genuinely excited and looking forward to a special evening. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short, especially given the price point and strong Yelp rating. The oxtail croquettes arrived cold, which was surprising for a fried item and set a disappointing tone early. The biggest issue was the hamachi crudo. It had a strong fishy smell with clear hints of ammonia and tasted far from fresh, bordering on spoiled. There was a lingering aftertaste that unfortunately affected everyone's palate for the rest of the meal. We sent it back due to quality concerns. My family and I grew up eating liver and mousse from our own family recipes and from many different culinary traditions. The chicken liver mousse here was creamy in texture but lacked depth and subtle sweetness, and tasted overly mineralized. It was the first chicken liver mousse I have ever not finished. The crab beignets were acceptable, though they could have used more crab. The accompanying sauce was well executed. The miso deviled eggs were tasty, and the anchovy add-on worked nicely. The Parisienne gnocchi, at $40, was not memorable and leaned heavily salty. Steak frites were standard, a dish that is generally hard to fumble. Unfortunately drinks. The shift in service after we sent back the hamachi was obviously uncomfortable and noticeable. The energy dramatically changed. There was little interest in engaging with our feedback. For a meal that totaled over $200, we left disappointed and still hungry. Portland offers many stronger dining options at this price point that deliver both quality and hospitality. Disappointing feels like an understatement. I am genuinely puzzled by the high rating based on the food quality and service we experienced. We will not be returning, nor would I recommend it based on this visit. read more

Hamachi Crudo - bland, and missing the freshness and brightness a Crudo should have. Deviled Eggs - straight mayo, very overpowering by that mayo flavor. Missing the egg flavor.... Seared Albacore - once again, the fish quality was not there. Paired with a horse radish sauce and onions which was good but I took one bite and was immediately turned off by the lack of freshness. Found this little gem while on vacation for Christmas. The menu is small yet mighty and the cocktails were great! We had a lovely server and the whole team worked together to ensure a wonderful dining experience. We got the crudo, crab beignets, and the burger. The beignets and burger were very tasty. The crudo wasn't my fave. Not sure how the larger fish dishes would be as we didn't venture that far. It would be fun to try this place out for happy hour! Chicken liver mousse is made approachable, shellfish is a must, and cocktails are the perfect cherry on top. Normandie is a restaurant that knows its worth. There are no fancy decorations to hide behind, the price for the food is justified by the quality. No need to dress fancy, service is relaxed. Get the bing bong for a refreshing and creamy cocktail or the speak clearly clarified milk punch that will not have you speaking clearly by the end of it. As mentioned, the chicken liver mousse is a must. I used to think I didn't like chicken liver mousse until I had it at Normandie. Similarly, the Hokkaido scallop crudo is to die for. The scallops are deliciously sweet. Some honorable mentions are the charred octopus, the lemongrass creme brulee, and the banana split which were all well executed. Conversely, the parisienne gnocchi sounded better on paper than the actual dish and the charbroiled oysters were forgettable. While Portland is known for their food truck scene, Portland's restaurant dining scene is slept on. Don't skip Normandie. read more

We had a gift card here so we decided to give it a try for our anniversary dinner. We had a reservation, but the restaurant wasn't too busy on a Thursday evening. There was plenty of seating in the dining area. The service is very friendly and attentive, and the area is Bussin and pretty loud actually as you're in close proximity of other tables. We tried the skirt steak, the burger, croquettes, deviled eggs, and crab beignets. Out of all these options, I would recommend the deviled eggs and croquettes for anyone trying this place. The deviled eggs were really creamy and had a slight tanginess to it but also the saltiness of the fish eggs was nice. The croquettes were filled with some poor kimchi type meat, which was really good and stuffed, but also the peach jam. It was sitting on top of added a really nice sweetness to the bite. The crab beignets were good. Reminded me of those stuffed crab claws you see at dim sum joints but less filling. I saw a lot of rave for the burger, so we were really excited for that but in my opinion, it was just okay. Meat was juicy but kinda small and didn't have a strong enough flavor for me. The onion ring was good but needed some dipping sauce. The skirt steak was really juicy, but it was extremely salty, as well as the fries. I'm someone who likes salty foods too but it was over bearing. It was really nice they gave us a salted caramel scoop for our anniversary but holy moly that thing was so incredibly salted. Giant crystals of salt throughout it was hard to enjoy any other flavor. Overall we had a pleasant time with great service. Overly salty food and unacceptable fish quality. I was really looking forward to this meal, but it ended up being extremely disappointing. The chicken liver and oxtail croquettes were both overly salty to the point where it completely overwhelmed any intended flavor. Instead of rich or comforting, everything tasted flat and unbalanced. Mediocre at best. The biggest issue, though, was the hamachi. It arrived smelling strongly fishy and tasted off, almost rotten. We had to send it back. On top of that, it was also overly salty. This is one of my go to spots when I want to celebrate something special. The cocktails and food are to die for - especially their small bites. The wormburner is a bit sweet for my taste but the golden galaxy cocktail and the espresso martini were perfect. If you're a sparkling fan, their sparkling rose here is one of my favorites. The service here was great! Timely and they were nice enough to seat me without a reservation though it was easier as I was a solo diner and promised to be out before their 7pm reservation. That being said, I never felt like I was being rushed. Food wise: mostly good, there was some misses but most of it was a win. My cocktail was delicious! The raw oysters were amazing and I wish I ordered a full dozen. The crab beignets were so fluffy and tasty. The only miss: the broiled oysters was way too salty. This is the second visit to Normandie and it has been consistent with their great service and amazing food. This recent visit we were served by Taylor, but all the serving staff stopped by and assisted with removing plates or bringing food and asking if either of us needed anything. Food came out correctly & quickly, but was perfectly timed and coursed. My guest and I shared everything as most items are intended to spilt, we ordered the cheeseburger (second time having this and highly recommended), crab beignets, oysters, beets, seared albacore (second time ordering this, but different variation also highly recommend), crispy potatoes, and the deviled eggs. Everything was amazing - literally no complaints, the way they put ingredients together to create an exploratory experience was really rewarding. I saved the cheesecake for later, but the server mentioned it was her favorite. I have been having some trouble with PDX restaurants walking away unfulfilled or unimpressed, but that was opposite tonight. We went for the happy hour which is from 5-6pm at the bar. Definitely recommend reservations as it is a small restaurant but very cute and cozy! We had excellent service, very attentive and kind. The happy hour oysters were amazing- we ended up getting a few more because they were so good! And only $2 an oyster. The fries were also delicious with a nice dill dip. The cocktails (espresso martini and 50 shades of grace) were both wonderful with interesting flavor profiles. They had a very extensive cocktail list! We had a wonderful time at Normandie. The rest was busy for our reservation at 6:15, but the staff was attentive. We were sat right away. The restaurant was well lit, but not overly in anyway. You sit a little. Lose to your neighbor, but we had great company on both sides of us. Everything we ordered was delicious. From the prawns, pork belly, malted fingerling potatoes. First of all, whatever hamburger you've eaten in the past or happen to be currently eating right now is wrong. Spit it out. Thank me later. There is now only one burger, and it is the one served at this restaurant. It is so good in fact that my brain has chosen to forget its name along with all other information it held in order to retain the memory of its flavor in my mouth. If French onion soup and a burger had a child, and that child became the Thanos of burgers, it would be this burger, and no one would miss the burgers it snapped out of existence. Honestly. Stop eating whatever nonsense you're eating and come eat this burger. There is no comparable. There is no equal. As it is with Highlander, there can be only one, and it is this one. In fact, everything we had tonight was amazing. The staff was amazing. The cocktails were amazing. The apps were amazing. I have zero complaints with this place. First and foremost the 3 stars has nothing to do with the cleanliness or attentiveness of the waitstaff. The price to me was insane. My dinner was two scallops on a bed of fruits/veggies with half the plate being mint crema for 44 dollars. There is no way this should be listed as a "Large Plate" as it wasn't even enough for one person. Also, three deviled eggs (an egg and a half) was 10 bucks. It's all tasty, but the quantity for the cost is unfortunate. Additionally, they said they had two cooks and so things were going to come out slower than normal... we were seated before 6pm and the time stamp on my entree shows it was brought to us at 8:10. That's an awfully long time to wait for two scallops. If you have money or time to blow, I recommend the place. The food was good... but I wouldn't go back. read more

Never been here but had been wanting to try it for a while. Came for a special occasion as you can expect to pay around $100 a person (after tip) for dinner with a couple cocktails. We ordered the smoked beets with shaved fennel, the oxtail croquettes, the seared albacore, poached prawns, and the gochujang pork. My favorites were the poached prawns and the seared tuna which were both well balanced and flavorful. The pork and the beets were good but not mind blowing. The oxtail was a little on the dry side and was a little over fried. Cocktails were satisfactory. Overall a good experience. Waitstaff were positive and friendly. Atmosphere was comfortable. The seafood and the sauce with the gnocchi was amazing. The gnocchi itself was meh, we opted per the server's recommendation to get a half order of bread to soak up the sauce, which was a pro move. Though they have makeshift outdoor seating from the pandemic, a better value is to enjoy the inside ambience to make well of the pricey bill. Service ~ casual. Perhaps a bit nonchalant and not exciting at all when giving basal suggestions like 'this is good and it's all good' for a high priced restaurant. We loved the ambience here! The bartender was such a sweetheart and was super quick! TIME FOR A RECAP: - Oxtail croquettes: the oxtails were cooked to perfection. Didn't even need the sauces because of how much flavor they had & I'm sauce girl. - The crab beignets were everything n then some. So creamy, not such thick breading, and the perfect amount of crab. - Now the gnocchi, I wanted to love it but it was pretty under-whelming. The intent was there but lacked flavor, I felt like the broth took away the amazing flavor of the seafood and gnocchi. We'll start with the positives: the service is excellent, the staff is very accommodating (picky 10 y.o.'s like their burgers cooked medium well - the horror!), and the ambience is romantic, especially on a warm night, with the windows flung open. I am a fan of quirky wallpaper (the seahorses - so adorable) and houseplants, of which there are dozens scattered around the restaurant. On to the food itself: it's a bit scattershot. I strongly disagree with many of the other Yelp reviews re: the portion sizes/value proposition - we were pleasantly surprised by how generous it all was. I mean, just look at that Normandie board - it's a meal unto itself. The lone exception might be the Miso deviled eggs - an egg and half seemed a bit stingy, but the flavors were good and the presentation was pretty. Hard to be mad at that. That being said: the meats on the Normandie board were a real miss. I'm not sure whether the meats were cured in house, but I suspect based on how uniformly over-spiced they all were (including the chicken liver mousse) that the same hand was applied to all three. The mousse was sticky-sweet and tasted overwhelmingly of allspice/clove; the nduja was so spicy as to be almost inedible; and the salami(?) had a very distinct spice profile that was off-putting. We actually wound up not eating the majority of all three items = approximately 1/3 of the board. The cheese, pickles, olives and bread were the saving grace. We didn't complain to the staff, as nothing seemed "off" with the meats, but they were not up to the caliber of the other food we experienced. Our other less-than-favorite item was the Dungeness crab beignet. They contained very little crab, seemed doughy in the interior, and did not fit the flavor profile from the description in the menu (kimchi felt nonexistent, despite the red-ish hue of the sauce). We enjoyed the eggs, mixed green salad, prawns, and the salmon entree. Little inconsistencies kept that enjoyment to a low simmer though (e.g., the eggs were VERY cold, which isn't great for a deviled product as the fat firms up too much texture-wise, as were the prawns - both would have been better a bit closer to room temp; the salad was one-note (dressing was sour without any balancing sweetness); and the salmon, while well-cooked, was perched on accompaniments drowning in a pool of oil). 10 y.o. approved of the burger and fries. We didn't have dessert. Maybe we would give Normandie another try? Definitely skipping the meats and the beignets next time, however. read more

This is the perfect place for a date night--delicious food, good drinks, and friendly service. The atmosphere is relaxed yet intimate. We loved venturing from Downtown to East Portland to try out this gem! Highlights of the night include the Broiled Oysters and Seared Scallops. My only complaint about the oysters is that I wish there were more! The scallops were so soft and paired perfectly with the fresh fruits and vegetables. Tucked away from the main roads you may not normally see Normandie on your ride home but you better bookmark the place because it's worth checking out. If you search Yelp Normandie is probably a spot that will show up for a cute date night or more upscale dinner but with their outdoor seating it's definitely a place you can even come with a group. Not to say that everything else wasn't delicious but I would opt to try other menu items instead. The pending item I need to try is their octopus which looks great in other Yelpers photos. Usually when you go to a new place, with four people, maybe you find two or three great dishes. We ordered all four gluten free (GF) small plates, a GF main plate, the squid ink gnocchi, and the seared halibut. Every bite was amazing!! The combination of ingredients created deep palette pleasing flavors. Almost 1/2 the menu is GF, which we really appreciated. Service was excellent. Hopefully going back there next week. For such excellent French food, Normandies is casual and comfortable. Highly recommend!!!!! read more

Big fan of their atmosphere and nautical decor. Eventhough it's a small space, they did a good job of leveraging it into a good comfy spot to hangout and grab drinks with cozy sofa seats. They're very busy even on a random Wednesday night so definitely make reservations. The staffs were friendly and helpful, patiently working around many tables. We had to wait pass our reservation time before we're seated but they gave us Deviled Eggs as a apology which was nice of them. The eggs were creamy and fresh. Loved, loved the pickled watermelon radishes. For food, they definitely make delicious and picture-worthy looking food here. The Crab Beignets that the table split were crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside, not greasy. The pairing of sweet chilli jam and formage blanc cream was also very fun and creative. However, for being a seafood-centric place, they rather held back on that front in their food but not on the prices. Small portions that are better for light snacks rather than actual meal so do keep that in mind. All in all, I'm into it, with the right mindset. Great service, and very creative menu but needs a little more finesse for "Asian fusion". The taste was almost there. Oysters were very good. Shaved ice horseradish and cucumber vinaigrette was amazing. Broiled oysters with XO ended up being very salty and overpowering. Star fruit and cucumber salad was so good and had a nice acidic mixture with the mild sweetness of peaches Octopus salad tasted like it was cooked like maple bacon. Good flavor, but overpowered by a very salty sauce. The salad accompanied it was nice and light, as long as it did not have the sauce on top.
