Flavorful and savory chicken soup with a lemony twist.

I've eaten in a lot of quirky and eclectic restaurants, but The Old Pinnix is, literally, the "toast of the town". Our first visit was so amazing, we actually ordered lunch twice! Follow the train tracks down Hancock Street from the downtown area and you'll find this little gem on the corner at Queen Street. There's ample on-street parking as well as a gravel lot in the rear. If you're lucky, you can sit inside and watch massive freight trains amble by as you dine. We were greeted and seated by the lovely host/bartender/server who walked us through the open-face, "toasts-only" menu after dropping off a couple of boozy beverages, including a perfectly spicy Bloody Mary and a hot bourbon toddy. The menu, presented on flip-up boards, includes a vast array of proteins and fresh veggie toppings on a variety of toasted breads - that's it. But that's all you'll need to be hooked. The servings are ample and wonderfully flavorful. We started off with the Bourbon Berry Bird Bomb Toast, featuring sliced turkey, crispy bacon, tangy feta and housemade bourbon and cranberry jam. The Rye'd or Die Ruben Toast was a classic presentation of corned beef, tangy sauerkraut and melty Swiss cheese. You get two stacked portions per order, with most of the toasts ranging from $10-$12. We also ordered the Avgolemon-like chicken soup which had tiny dumplings and a lovely lemony flavor. That alone sparked a second order of the soup and our second round of toast, the Dill With It, featuring creamy sliced avocado, red onions, sun-dried tomatoes and topped with Tzatziki and fresh dill. This is a "gotta-try-it" restaurant spot if you're visiting New Bern. Great service, tasty toasts and a pleasant environment.

They have a parking lot ! Always a great thing with any restaurant/bar! Especially in the downtown area. New Bern has some really cool places and this was another one we found. Essentially a bar and hangout type place with a little bit of food . They have a really nice bar area with all kinds of cool cocktails and the classics too. They also have a tea blending area to make different flavors and concoctions . Kinda different. Nice seating areas, the bar was nice and then some tables and couches. They also have a bunch of board games you can play at your table. They had live music the night we went and they do frequently. He was arelly good and played some good tunes. So we happily tipped him. We ordered few different cocktails which were all great and each person enjoyed what they got . The espresso martini I got was on point and espresso forward like hiw I like . The coconut margarita, spiced whiskey mule and peach amaro fizz were also good . They serve a little bit of food which was cool and different. They call them toasts. Different breads with different toppings and just kick from the list or make your own. We got 4 different ones and shared them. They are big enough to cut up so everyone can try each others if you care to do that! We had the Reuben, caprese, prosciutto and the tzatziki chicken. All were excellent and freshly made . They serve food on all disposables so I imagine the kitchen is small so this is easy clean up. Toast making was a little slow but it seemed this place was a 3 man show . Bar and kitchen. They are worth the wait though and I loved the variety of toppings. We also made room their bread pudding! It was excellent and warm with nice subtle spices and perfect amount of sweetness. Great lively atmosphere and the bar tender was a cool dude. If I lived in New Bern I'd be here often.

Always a great visit at The Old Pinnix. They do toast the right way! We enjoyed an afternoon cocktail with our toast and soup. Never a disappointment.

Great setting in an old pharmacy. Novell drinks, knowledgeable bartenders. I enjoyed bartenders choice as well as butterfly pea flower tea for x2 purple on this occasion.

As the display shows it used to be a drug store

picnic was very welcoming and the bar tender was awesome and explained all the drinks that we asked about as well as the different types of toast on the menu.

Such a fun lunch experience! Relaxing atmosphere! Unique sandwiches/toast with outstanding recommendations from our server even with at least 4 different bread choices! Oh the cocktails-so yummy! We cannot wait to be back in New Bern & visit Pinnix again!

Great local hang and tourist friendly. Fantastic cocktail menu and seasoned bartenders. Recommend the Dry Irishman Tini or Cherry Rosemary Old Fashion. Some good German beers too. Toasts and soups are fantastic. Recommend the Rueben.

We really enjoyed the old pinnix for brunch on Sunday. Staff was extremely pleasant and the toasts were spectacular. It's small, but if there is a wait, it's worth it.

This is suited for a very light lunch, or tea with the girls, or having drinks out. Not for me, though.

Beautiful, jazzy, Art Deco space. They had wonderful cocktails to choose from, cold draft beers, a big wine list, and very interesting food. We felt like just tapas, we got the empanadas and the "naked" egg rolls. We also got one order of smoked mac and cheese. The empanadas were too hard. I wish they were a little softer, but the egg rolls were delicious, and the mac and cheese was shockingly good. Probably the best I ever had. They have these really cool individual rooms that you can rent with friends if you want to make a special night of feeling like you're in a different world back in time. Definitely worth a visit.

We enjoyed the watermelon carpaccio, fried green tomatoes, garden risotto with added shrimp. Everything was very good. The tomato portion was enormous and the beer batter was crispy and light. The risotto? It wasn't really risotto, it was more like a creamy rice but it was delicious. And those shrimp were big, juicy and tasted like they just came out of the sea. The watermelon, though, was a shocker. It was grilled! It had a really great smoky flavor that was totally unexpected and the dressing was light and fresh. We always sit at the bar and the service is always on point.

Great crust and tender meat. Today's was not that. Tender meat but the crust was a smidge over done, not enough to ruin the meal, but nothing to fantasize about like the early days of this place. They have the Lagavulin 16. Winner winner chicken dinner right there. Tullamore Dew was well would have made 5 stars. Service was good though. Professional. And they have two pretty big TVs to watch sports on. Ladies Flag Football baby. No one to revisit though like other establishments in the area. Very light rock music in the background. They worked well together and made sure we were well taken care of. If you went to a restaurant just for the staff then this would get them five stars. But I don't come just for the staff or ambiance. I come to restaurants for the food and with a limited budget I want value and quality for our money. When we go to a place we haven't tried before I like to try sampler plates or try smaller portions of more items to learn what they are good at. Most BBQ joints have a sampler platter but there wasn't one on the menu. I asked about it and they said it was common to get smaller portions of the proteins as a combo (again not on the menu) but if you do it, doesn't come with the bread or the side even though the price is a bit more. You get to choose three meats. Ok I ordered the sausage, burnt ends, pork belly and a side of fries. The sausage was very good, thank you. The pork belly was a very small portion and fattier than I've had before, sweetened and too salty. The burnt ends were bad, I couldn't even finish them. Perhaps the worst burnt ends I've ever had. Very salty, I mean way too much salt. greasy, truly burnt not just the bark and meat like most burnt ends, and the sauce wasn't very good either. I was really disappointed. The fries were great, I would come here just for those. My wife ordered the turkey pot pie which was small and dry. She asked for some gravy on the side which they promptly got out. She indicated it was very good gravy.

The vibe in the restaurant is casual and the decor minimalist. We were immediately greeted with genuine warmth and friendliness. We sat at a window with a view and enjoyed our Brussels sprouts appetizer. Not only was it hot, crisp and flavorful but plenty of food for three adults to share. Mains were fantastic-- roasted beet salad was refreshing on a super hot day, fish tacos could easily have fed two. Crispy fish, slaw and tortillas were perfection. I had a chipotle burger which was the best burger I had enjoyed in ages. Service was professional and friendly. Can't say enough good things about the spot. Our server Ridley, came to the table promptly, answered our questions and took our orders. Our drinks came quickly and were always full. The food arrived soon after our orders were placed. The presentation of our meals was terrific. Three diners in our party ordered the Fish Tacos and one got the Fish and Chips. It would be an understatement to say the servings were seriously generous. The fish & chips came 3 large fried fish filets and a heaping of seasoned fries. The taco orders each had 3 full vs mini sized soft tacos overflowing with fish filets...the fish was legit spilling out over both ends of the tacos! The fish was lightly battered, nicely seasoned and fried to perfection. The quantity of the food was so generous, only one of us could finish our meal!! On our way out, we stopped and spoke with the manager Kelsey. She is the spirit behind the "the new and improved" Persimmon's ethos. She took no credit for the changes or improvements and instead placed our exemplary experience squarely at the feet of her employees! It's obvious she's a wonderful, caring leader of the Persimmon's team. Cheers to Kelsey, Ridley and the Persimmon's crew!

Kennedy, our friendly, knowledgeable server, brought out complimentary cornbread with brown butter/molasses butter and tomato soup shooters. Yum.
