Shark City (Tuna) with Buffalo Mac & Cheese
    Joe M.

I eat lunch here twice a week. They make excellent Sandwiches - made to order sandwiches or from a list of standard sandwiches. All Sandwiches are $9.50. They usually have two soups (or a chili). The buffalo mac & cheese is great. All the usual chips, sodas, and other drinks you would expect at a village store. There are some picnic tables outside, but mostly take-out. They serve breakfast and lunch. You order at the counter and pay at the register. They make a good breakfast sandwich -- English muffin, egg, cheese, and bacon. Basic coffee -- no cappuccino or specialty drinks. Friendly service. Lots of easy parking. Also serves as the Village convenience store for basic items. Excellent observance of COVID-19 protocols.

I LUV this place! Whenever I am in the area, I always stop by & order a sandwich from their Deli Counter. The sandwiches are ALWAYS FRESH FRESH FRESH! Bread is freshly baked in house & the cold cuts are BOAR'S HEAD! There is a cute penny candy section for the kids! Lotsa cute memorabilia & grocery staples. They also NOW sell a really a good selection of beer, & wine! Staff are friendly & service is fast & efficient!

$9.50 for this turkey sub? See photo. Pitifully small 1 piece of meat. No lettuce, no cheese. I don't understand why it's so much money!

Scorton chicken salad loaded with walnuts and cranberries. My favorite by far.

After a long hike with my friend, we decided to stop at the Old Village Store for sandwiches. I ordered the Scorton, chicken salad with walnuts and cranberries and a turkey club with bacon. Both sandwiches are delicious and filling. Picnic benches outside and Covid spaced.

Shocked at the blatant racist profiling I was subjected to by the man taking the sub orders. I grew up in Barnstable and have visited this store for years but this was my first time back in a few months and 9 times out of 10, customers pick up their order from the deli and THEN turn around and pay at the counter right by the door. However, the guy who took my order held on to my sub while asking, "Did you pay already?" and wouldn't let go until I said yes! Thankfully I had already paid or it definitely would've gotten more awkward but it was amazing to have watched him smilingly hand over the previous sandwich NO QUESTIONS ASKED to the older, caucasian woman in front of me! (Who hadn't prepaid btw..) I had two children with me which makes "running" a laughable conclusion AND the person at the checkout counter is more than capable of verifying payment with customers before they walk out. Very offended and disappointed and obviously will never be returning.

Great small town general store. They have the best breakfast sandwiches and deli sandwiches. The staff are a wonderful group of people.

There are several reasons to shop at this always very crowded grocery store on Cape Cod…read more One, the prices. They cannot be beat anywhere. Market Basket provides value compared to the other large grocery chains. This not only includes private label products but also branded products. I could easily put a list together on items that are much cheaper here than Stop & Shop. Example: a popular brand of soup. 2 cans for $5 at Market Basket. One (1), can of same exact soup is $4.79 at Stop & Shop...what???? Two, the service. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Also, they always have a decent amount of checkout cashiers, so even on the busy days, the lines are not too bad. Three, the cafe. The cafe has very good takeout food and offers an excellent variety. The pizza is solid. I hear people raving about the steak bombs, but I have not tried one yet. Four, the location. This location is just past the Sagamore bridge as you head east over the canal. It's easy to get to and then get back on the mid-cape highway. The only real negative is that it is generally pretty crowded (for the reasons I mentioned above, I am sure). The store aisles are a bit tight, so it can get pretty hectic in there. However, the pros far outweigh this one con.

Because it's so crowded many pickpocketers prey on distracted people with kids or vacationers. Make sure you don't leave anything in your cart that's a personal item because IT WILL GET STOLEN if you walk more than a foot from your cart. Happened to me and another man in the 30 minutes I was there. I walked three feet to grab eggs and had to wait a minute due to a person in front of me. The criminals took my cart and another person's cart- combining half the items and then walked away with my cart and bag toward an exit. Thankfully the bag was not my purse but they thought it was! In my case they were two dark haired people working together. A security guard who roams the aisles would be a good idea. Really. Be careful!

Now... everything is going to cost you a pretty penny, but that's Nantucket life for you. In June, you can pick your own strawberries. They offer up breakfast sandwiches, lunch options, they even have daily dinner specials like roast turkey one night and a tri-tip another. Some items are great, somethings are ok and somethings are eh? For a one stop shop though, this place is it. A few things: I don't love the donuts, Bake Shop is way better. The lobster salad is delicious. The sammies? They're fine, Something Natural or Henry's are better options, but they suffice. The cookies are incredible. Their dips, their salads - all so good. The produce? I spend all my money on their tomatoes. Anything they grow, you should buy, anything they don't grow is way overpriced. If you have kids, they have a nice little play structure right by the picnic tables (about 6-8 picnic tables) which is fun for my 3 year old, but also my 7 year old. With that, Bartlett's is a Nantucket legend and we must all bow down to Queen B.
