This might be one of America's last Disco Roadhouses. I had a complete 'what in the David Lynch?' moments as we entered from the quiet cricket nature outside to the huge dance floor with disco music blasting and red lights glowing. There is a great stage to the right with a see thru back room that had a pool table and a few arcade games. To the left is the bar and large indoor 70s style fireplace. We were camping 20 mins up the highway and I felt completely unprepared for this scene. Next time I will be ready with more glitter and cowboy boots. We were lead to the back room, which somehow looked like a 20s speakeasy, with its cool dark wallpaper, dark academia bookshelves, and gold glittered tables, which overlooked the redwood trees. It was rustic and chic and I questioned if I was dreaming at how cool this place was. I know it's weird but I even loved their tea tree smelling hand soap in the bathroom. The service was excellent and food was delicious. They only have a few menu items and are mostly vegetarian (LOVE!) but they source their ingredients from local farmers and you can taste it. The waiter/owner explained that they have rotating chefs so this night they had Armenian influenced dishes. Yes, you heard right, Armenian food, 'my God,' I thought, 'could this random place in the redwoods get any better!' Between everyone at the table we tried most of the dishes, the shrimp cocktail, the fried cheese roll, roasted purple cauliflower, and fattosh salad, everything was excellent and comparable to the foodie scene you would find in the bay area. After dinner we headed to the bar for a few drinks and talked with the lil Kim shirt wearing, badass bartender. The place was a little quiet that night, but she explained they have had some pretty popular events this summer and do line dancing once a month as well. The halls are decorated in bands that have once played here and biker rallies with big names like Alvin Bishop and George Thorogood. Absolutely shocked by this hidden gem in the redwoods. Who knew Phillipsville was the place to be, I wish I lived closer so I can visit every weekend. If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would and am looking forward to my next visit. I definitely think that it is worth the drive from the bay just to hang out at this place. Go now while you can so you can say you knew it when.

10/10! We ordered the focaccia and the brusselsprouts and oh my goodness was that amazing! We ate that so quickly by the time our entres came we were almost too full to finish. Our server Summer who is a beautiful human being did a wonderful job and you can really see how happy working here makes her. The ambiance was very chill, playing great music, lots of cars out front but not crazy packed. We had a wonderful experience and I will definitely be going back next time I'm in town. Thank you to everyone at the Riverwood, you guys are doing an incredible job!

We had the French onion soup, Brussel sprouts, and the Chicken Ceasar Schnitzel and devoured it all.

My wife, her mom, and I, all like burgers so figured this would be a good place to stop. Our cellular service did not work here, so had to use the info I had downloaded in Google maps to know where to stop. It ended up being pretty good. Hours are daily 11:00 - 20:00, so we arrived just after it opened and were the first ones. There is two areas for outdoor dining: a large set of picnic tables near the chimney tree as well as a patio at the restaurant itself. We soon realized that a cat was roaming the patio, looking for food, so we decided to eat inside, instead. It's a one man operation, with the owner fulfilling multiple roles. After we orders and paid, we got a pager to notify us once the order was ready. Everything is prepared fresh, so it took a bit of time. But because it was served hot, everything tasted good. I love a lot of toppings on my burger, so the self-serve topping bar was great...was able to put as much lettuce and pickles as I wanted. The 1/3 hamburger ($12.99) came with good fries . My wife got her plain cheeseburger 1/4 cheeseburger ($9.99) and enjoyed it. Her mom got chicken strips basket ($13.99), and upgraded her fries to be curly. We all shared each others fries, and the curly fries were really good. Drinks are cans. I didn't want to risk having a milk shake, but from all indications, it sounded good. We ate our meal at the counter. Afterwards, the owner suggested we walk across the parking lot to visit the Living Chimney Tree. It's free to enter, and is hollow enough for a person or two fit in. There are openings on both sides, so easy to take some nice pictures.

The Peg House has a cute gift shop, general store with booze and basics (famous brownies and ginormous cookies!) and next door is the outdoor restaurant. I ordered the lost coast burger and with tax it was $20. It came with a small portion of broccoli coleslaw that I really liked- and thankfully my two companions did not so I got a triple portion. The burger was fine. Not the greasy smash burger experience I was craving, but it tasted fresh. Served on a ciabatta roll... from Costco? Unconfirmed, but that's what it tasted like. I would have preferred brioche or something more fluffy. I ate every crumb because post hike hunger. I wouldn't come again though. The service was good and everyone was nice- just overpriced for the product, IMO. The outdoor seating was nice and it looks like sometimes there is live music. The bathrooms were gross. Smelled horrible and dirty. There is a campground or some sort of rv park right behind that may also be sharing the restrooms.

Our service was 5 star which helped since we were exhausted. I have a super strong recommendation for the Cali 101 sandwich. It might be one of the sandwiches I've ever had. The fried parmesan on the tops of the bread sealed the deal. My wife asked for a custom burger. Mind you, the kitchen was closing but chef pulled off a beautiful dish. I don't normally photo food but wish I did. My wife goes bun-less and they served the dish on a bed of spinach (which she requested and they had to dig for it). To do all that as the kitchen is closing says something. They could have just thrown it on top. I am completely stealing that one. I love amber ale and they make a good one.
