My navi got me in the general area as usual ... so I'm at 834 Lincoln and I'm thinking ... this ain't no Olive Pit so as I'm cruising the parking lot, I finally see an arrow pointing towards the back of the strip mall and it says Olive Pit. People weren't lying when they said "it's hard to find" and "you won't see it from the street." Once you finally make it here ... here's what I experienced on a Saturday night: - decent draft beer selection and prices - no need to bring your ID, they don't check ... maybe i just look old - bunch of cool regulars including an Amy Winehouse look-a-like - if you get too drunk, don't worry you won't get kicked out - good spot for large groups getting together - digital jukebox, air hockey, fooseball and pool tables - eat first - the cook was in baja catching fish for some tacos or something but the remodeled kitchen will re-open after 10/13 - take care of the bartender and he'll take care of you ... he was real cool, just make sure he doesn't ash in your drink - don't park in the front, some drunk fool might jump on your car - be careful, you can easily fall into a drunken stupor here overall experience was cool read more

The Bar: Considering that this bar has just been made over for the Bar Rescue television program, it should have been hopping. The Crowd: Sadly, none. It was a ghost town. Maybe a dozen patrons were there, max. Service: Quick. Served within 5 seconds of being there. Prices: Drinks were strong and relatively cheap. Domestic pitcher will run you about $9 Entertainment: 5 TV's, 3 pool tables, 1 air hockey table, and various video games throughout. Internet Jukebox. We were interested in seeing this bar after watching a re-run of Bar Rescue. John Taffer would be horrified. I asked what their "Special Drink" was (they learned two or three on the show) and the bartender said they didn't have one. (What?) So I ordered wine and was told they didn't have any wine glasses, which didn't bother me, but really? And the wine was from one of those little plastic bottles that you get in a four pack. On their website, they advertise "slow cooked roast beef sandwiches", (also learned on the show) but there was no food and no kitchen. The inside still looked nice, but I don't see how they can make any money with no food and no mixed drinks. It's really hard to find, and there is no lighting on their sign or on the stairway leading to the place. I think it's a shame that the owners were on the show and got their place all fixed up (for free?) and they really don't care about the place anymore. read more

Its semi-secretive locale makes it a bit hard to find (think ninja staircase downward), but once you finally do, it won't disappoint. The large setup makes it a fine place to mix, mingle, and down a few in good company (e.g. OC's CD SWAP PARTY of 50+ people), and besides good tunes, almost being the recipient of cigarette ash in your medium-strength drink (courtesy of the friendly barkeep) makes for an interesting conversation starter. The Olive Pit retains all the character of a dive bar, except that it's much cleaner and they keep the lights real bright. A few pool tables and air hockey keep you active, while a digital juke box features your garden variety of Top 40 PLUS has a basic handful of Metal. I was ever so slightly buzzed, but I just wished that they had more Iron Maiden on the Juke Box! Nevertheless, I made do with Master of Puppets and $5 vodka tonics. Pros - $5 medium strength drinks (they don't price discriminate if you happen to request GG in your vodka tonic) - Games galore! (Pool, air hockey, darts, video games) - Secluded entrance borders a secluded parking lot. Conducive for outside bar brawls, or spectator sports like riding, not inside, but on top of cars. - Friendly staff and even friendlier locals! Cons - Watching the friendly barkeep "almost" ash his cigarette hanging out the side of his mouth in your vodka tonic. But hey, you could call that anxiety par for the course of your dive bar themed evening. - Lights are way too bright in there. I prefer looking dark and mysterious. And what was the flavor of the night? That flavor was "salty" only because salt makes your mouth water, and leaves you craving for more. Ah, the Olive Pit. Poor, poor, Olive Pit. It was like you were on a first date and everything was going just smabby you even got a kiss at the end of the night. Then you wait and wait and wait for the call, then you hear from a friend that your date wasn't that interested and plus they thought you were fat! What?! Not me though, I enjoyed my first date with the Olive Pit. I thought it was everything it promised to be and more. Although it's not quite a dive bar and not quite a sports bar, but a neighborhood-sports bar sorta thing rolled into one. And they were excited to have loads of new people visit them on one Saturday night a fortnight or so ago. I was excited too! For only having two bartenders they did awesome! I never had to wait for a drink, the staff was super friendly - Dave even gave us some crazy concoction of a shot for free! I like my bars with cheap drinks and games, and it's not often that you find a neighborhood bar with pool, foosball, darts even some freakin' air hockey. I was astounded by all the games. I imagine the Quintessential Barfly has a stool at The Olive Pit. By far, one of my favorite dives in Orange County....Sure, aesthetically it is nuthin' to write home about...it's not dressed up or begging to impress, but what the Pit lacks in beauty it makes up for in the characters that inhabit it any given weekend night. Mostly locals....some locos...and patrons that want only to enjoy an evening drinking or shooting pool with friends, old and new. The jukebox doesn't disappoint, either.... Classic rock, metal, and punk tunes you wouldn't expect making it all the betta. The best thing of all is how incognito the bar is... if you aren't familiar with the area, or the strip mall the Pit is behind (and under)...you'll pass it by without even knowing. This is pretty much a local's only dive bar that is out of the way. I have been trashed here more times than not and have fared very well even when I puked for what seemed like hours in their dimly lit parking lot. The beer is cold, drinks are strong and they have a loud juke box. The place kinda smells and the food is gross. Some of the patrons are lame asses, but that's what fists were made for. The Olive Pit, located in the armpit of an industrial complex in the city of Orange, California gives way to an uninteresting and uninspiring Saturday night. Unfortunately, the Olive Pit was the destination as I'm being dragged out last minute to an unofficial Yelp event. This is precisely the kind of place where beat up strippers go to escape their daily grind and hang out. Where the bartender appears five lines into a meth fueled night. Upon arriving, I met a guy named "Tip" outside smoking. Without invite, he willingly explains his name is "Tip" because of his tipping habits. Inside, I'm feeling confused and panicked. I'm not even through the door and I'm being subjected to this level of social discomfort and I'm quite certain in moments this feeling will triple as I walk through the door. Within the next ten feet, I confirm that the Internet is a wonderful thing and Yelp is a great site. However, there is something incredibly charming about being anonymous behind a keyboard. I take a seat at the bar, open a tab and tell my girlfriend to go mingle and have fun. I sit and stare at the bottles behind the bar. I'm slightly amused at the iron cross sticker with numbers "714" stamped in the middle. Where is a confederate flag when you need one? Pathetic. Most of the liquor appeared to be old and generic. The dust and dirt around the serving stations were enough to halt all future ordering beyond the pint of Bluemoon (no Orange in sight). It was sad to think that someone actually owns this bar given the amount of waste going on. Dollars were being drained faster than running water. The bartender was giving out free drinks left and right and he kept mistaking orders result in even more free drinks. Aside from his meth shakes and the yelling...the bartender was smoking while mixing drinks. I watched in nausea as the ashes fell in and around the drinks. It was simply appalling and grotesque. Unless you are looking for a cheap hooker, cheap booze and dreadful music... you may have found your new home. For the rest of you who have taste, self-respect, and self worth... stay away. Although it doesn't have quite the charm of, say, Roubi's bathroom, The Olive Pit turned out to be a great place to hold the OC Mix CD Swap. They had no problems accomodating 50+ Yelpers of varying degrees of drunkenness and rowdiness in the back pool table area. Mrs. Q had called earlier in the day just to let them know that a large group of us would be coming to the Pit, just in case they weren't forewarned. Dave (barback/manager? not really sure) was really excited to have a large group, and to show his gratitude, treated Hazel and I to shooters of SoHo (Southern Comfort + Red Bull + strawberry Pucker). It was pretty tasty, actually - I know the girl at the bar next to us was raving about it. Let's just say she and her exploding cleavage seemed the perfect demographic for a drink called SoHo. Anyway, William S. probably deserved a shot (and more!) for organizing the event, but hey, I wasn't complaining. The Pit has a lot going for it: Ample room for groups, good mix of tunes on the juke box, cheap drinks (pitchers of Blue Moon for $12! Twelve dollars, folks!), plenty of the usual bar games, including foosball! Hm, all these exclamation points must mean I was surprised at how much I liked this place. A delayed review but nonetheless.. this is my FIRST time in a Dive Bar! ^_^ It was extremely hard to find and a lot of us confused this address for the dental office but eventually we found this place tucked away behind the stores in front. Follow the steps down and turn left to find the entrance. The best part of this bar was the wonderful Yelpers there ^_^ and of course the free t-shirt in the end! My dad wears it! lol I thought the bartenders were super nice and the service was not bad. There was one customer that scared me. I am scarred for life! But at least I got to see the Yelp scene and the fun things that go on! They have pool tables, Foosball, air hockey and more. Despite the fact that I rarely drink, if some friends wanted to go out and have a drink, I would definitely recommend The Olive Pit. It's not a stereotypical dive bar, but has a theme of sports and Nascar all over the walls, and yet is still clean and not raunchy. The only thing I was a little disappointed at was the kitchen cook was in Baja that night so we had to go to Chick Fil A to grab a bite to eat since we were hungry...but that is for the next review. I like this bar for the Thirsty Thursday deal: $1 domestic pints, $2 premium pints, $3 mango shots. My gripe with this place is the bartender. She is super slow and seems to ignore who walks up first. I will be standing there for like 10 minutes and somebody will walk up then she'll just immediately serve that person before she'll get to me. I don't wanna seem like an ass and just scream for attention but that's what it seems I have to do. Anyways, the place is a nice dive bar and was featured on Bar Rescue. OMG, where the hell is this place? We drove up and down the street until we finally spotted "Olive Pit" on a large strip mall sign. Hmm, this is a weird sketchy area with seemingly nothing around it. The strip mall was locked up tight. We parked and then I saw the archway with some stairs. Okay, here we go. Once downstairs, I saw a huge parking lot and heard loud music coming from the bar. All right! We found it. I greeted the small group of yelpers when we walked in but beelined it to the bar. The male bartender made the two drinks I ordered, a vodka tonic and the Cape Cod without giving us a lime wedge. I didn't ask for it because I thought maybe this is what they mean but "dive bar." No accoutrements for you! Well, later I saw the female bartender cutting up limes. She was the better bartender I thought. Though the guy did later comp me some interesting SoCo shot after I expressed my vanilla vodka with orange juice was super weak (it was $3 so I didn't complain too much). Well drinks are $4 each. Call drinks seemed to be around $6. I would call this place a sports bar without TVs (well, I didn't see any). There are pool tables and air hockey. It's very bright with Miller Lite posters on the wall. The restroom wasn't extremely clean but it was reasonable. Other than the 40+ yelpers that eventually gathered here, I didn't get a sense of the crowd. Although, some guy kept hitting on me and the rest of the women. I think he talked to everyone. Gotta admire his guts but no thanks to him sending me his "music." Unfortunately, the cook wasn't there and the bartender told me they'd been sending out for the food and to try back on Monday. It's a dive bar and I went in expecting little, even if this place has gone through Bar Rescue. My friends and I came here to check out the Thirsty Thursdays ($1 draft domestic, $2 premium beers, and $3.5 for mango shots) which I have to admit is a GREAT deal. However, that might be the only great thing about this place and the only reason why I would consider even coming back. The place has poor ventilation and it was difficult to breathe. We sat at a table and it was sticky and covered with a weird liquid. We decided to move to the bar which was also pretty sticky and we ordered our beers. We asked the bartender for the menu but she said that there was no food that night. Maybe it was because the cook wasn't on staff but the bartender pretty much ran the entire place. She was the waitress, bus girl, bartender, dishwasher, all in one. Props to her for taking on the entire place, but I guess that is what happens at the Olive Pit. We decided to leave because wanted to get some food somewhere. I can see the potential in this place but service and management needs to change. read more

They are so good, I've been to some good burger joints like Slater's 50/50 but these burgers take the crown in my book, :) Pricing is in line with other gourmet burger joints. Come in for lunch, since this is when the cook is in. I would talk about their Thirsty Thursday specials, but seems like everyone else has it pretty much covered. LOL All around good times. So I changed into my torn jeans, hustler wifebeater and chucks and arrived at the Olivepit. LOCATION: Dude, this is the hidden of all hidden bars. It's behind a strip mall and the only way to get there is to drive through the back entrance. When you drive back you see this big parking lot with basically just the bar there. PRICES: Cheap beer, they got quite a few beers on tap, you can get a pint for about $4-$5? Pretty good. ATMOSPHERE: There's a big bar, 2-3 pool tables and a small area that people use as a dancefloor. CROWD: Everyone you can think of.... Bro-hos. Eclectic people. Punk rockers. skaters, Asian college students, old people, cholos, etc. You name it, you can find someone like that at the Olive Pit. Everyone is pretty cool and just there to have a good time. This the first Non-Asian owned joint that I've been to that doesn't care if you smoke inside. After a few hours pass, people are dropping like flies..drunken craziness and I'm talking about the old people. I'm not much of a bar person but if I was.. I wouldn't mind coming here. =) read more

This place would make a great fight club. It is quite secluded and aimed at the working class folk in Orange. I used to actually frequent this place a lot back when I was depressed but not so much these days. Back then I would usually meet a dude, probably named Jim, and I would know because it would say it on his shirt. He would buy me a beer or two in exchange for an ear to lend. I learned a lot of my therapeutic skills in places like the Pit. I would usually listen to the Jims up until they started discussing the racial superiority of the white man. At this point I would know it was time to go home or go Chasers of all f'ng places. A few weekends ago, my friends and I went to the Pit on a Friday night, and we did not have the depression to blame. To my dismay there was a DJ there and gaggles of young quasi-attractive ladies. The Jims were still there but they were flanked in all directions by these women. It was quite a nice little surprise. Of course there were plenty of douche bags and their lifted trucks but they were all busy talking to the Jims about Glamis or Beirut or wherever the fuck else these folks go. The Pit is still quite the dive. It has everything a dive bar in Orange would have: beer, liquor, games, sports, decay, etc. However, I guess now they bring in DJ Triple Nipple on Fridays in order to scare away the Jims. This is another hidden gem of a dive bar that serves food too! Make no mistake though - this is a DIVE BAR. Great our of the way location which adds to it's appeal in my opinion. All the bartenders here are always awesome and the lady that makes the food is awesome too! Heavy pour, friendly service and good simple bar food make this one of my absolute favorite dive bars in the OC. If you are a dive bar aficionado then The Olive Pit is a must! First, I love the atmosphere. It's a regular neighborhood hang out. You got everyone from the older to younger crowds. Second, I love their thirsty Thursday deals. $2 beers! Third, the people who work here are the best. So nice and friendly. Fourth, the serve tater tots by the basket (huge serving, great for sharing) and they were delicious! I've never been to a bar behind/under a strip mall. That sounds like an awesome idea but not for this place. This bar is pretty dumpy to say the least. I've been there about 10 times. Not out of enjoyment, just simply because it's really close to my house. There's never been more than 5 people in the bar. Drinks are mixed pretty strong. That's a plus, but the bar tender is often times not behind the bar. There's no food. Bathrooms are disgusting. The pool tables are broken half the time. read more

Ok, here goes. Wanted to watch Monday Night football and this place is close to home. The drink "specials" for MNF didn't look too appealing. So I payed the 6 bucks for the new-castle jumbo mug (must be about 32 oz.) decent price for an import. Right away I felt sort of "outta place." Strangers may be generally given the cold shoulder routine here, but I have no history to compare the vibes. Anyway, I can barely focus on the game with one of the "regulars" (father time) yelling at the top of his voice just screaming his conversation with the other patrons. He seems loaded so I avoid contact. This leads me to change seats as I sit at the bar instead of next to this fellow. So now I'm in front of the jukebox feeling every beat of the tunes, the volume seems a bit excessive considering the size of the room, but the selection wasnt bad. No real issues with this place. One of my old reliable go to Dives in the OC. Because of its tucked away entrance and stand-alone location its less crowded than most bars. Its got a comfy outside smoking area with stairs or benches to sit on, a musically DEEP jukebox, fair priced & generously served drinks and a variety of bar games (pool, ping pong, darts, etc...) Oh and please dont come here expecting some bar rescue transformation with flair & mixology. Its beers, whiskey, shots, & simple 2 ingredient drinks served over ice. read more

The Olive Pit - An interesting place.. This place can be a bit hard to find, as it's behind a row of stores that has a drop down parking area, but the name on the brick fence out front points the way. Inside, it's a dark divey type of bar, with locals, lots of drink choices, pool tables, games, tv's. The people there were pretty cool. I travel quite a bit back and forth from AZ to O.C. so I've been there on different nights. On the weekends this place seems to fill up with an interesting mix of brow's and princesses, which is pretty entertaining, but everyone was pretty cool overall. I went and saw the game there on Sunday, not a lot of people there, it was pretty mellow. I will probally go back, it a great db to hang out and people watch. read more

So my girlfriend and I saw this place on bar rescue show. I have lived in Orange my whole life and was unaware of the bar until the show. We stop by at 6pm on Friday.upon arrival walking in the place was very dark only a few lights on over the bar. We sat at one of the booths on the wall by the exit door, which had torn seats and a very sticky table. We sat there for 7 minutes with nobody even looking in our direction. So then I tell my girlfriend go get a pool table set-up and I'll get us drinks and see what they have to order for food. We mostly came here because we were hungry and didn't want a big meal and wanted a few drinks. So then I stand at the bar for close to 5 minutes. I felt like I was on the bar rescue show before it was fixed. There was a bartender climbing on the counter into the mug refrigerator, while an older drunk man set at the bar counter hollering " whooo hoo shake it baby". Then she continues to "shake it".anyways long story short we spent about 12 minutes in the bar without even getting spoken to, sitting at the bar Booth ready to order and standing at the bar waiting for somebody to look in my direction. Needless to say they're obviously failing for a reason, I will never be back. Just for market purposes I'm in my mid-thirties and should have no problem being comfortable at this bar. I have been coming to this place on and off for about 1 year. Every Thursday, me and my friends would stop off after working out for "Thirsty Thursdays". They offer $1 beers. Now drinks can be bought anywhere. The reason we go there is because the people are nice and The bartender Arla is AMAZING. Sweet, kind, cheerful and make us feel welcome. My reason for this 1 star is the nasty experience me and my friends had on Friday. Now we have never gone in on a Friday, always Thursdays. So going in on a different day, we still expected the SAME customer service as any other day. Boy were we wrong. Let me get into detail of our experience. There were two bartenders Jamie and Monica. We ordered "cheesecake shots" from the bartender Jamie. * Jamie proceeded to make us the wrong shot. We all tasted our shots and realized it was missing the liquor Rum Chata. That wasn't a issue, some shots are hard to make. So we informed Jamie and after she rambled on some excuse about screwing up, she offered to remake it. * To our horror, instead of starting fresh, Jamie took the shots that she served us and POURED IT ALL BACK IN THE SHAKER. Now we had all tasted ours so having all 3 shots poured back was gross. Its a dive bar, so we all didn't say anything. She added the missing ingredient, Shook it up and served our shots back to us. Now when she served our shots back, she filled our glasses to the brim. So we assumed that's how the shot is served. *Then she LICKED THE STRAINER of the shaker and said " yes now it tastes like a cheesecake shot" SHE LICKED THAT STRAINER......I'm sorry but I don't care if that strainer is going to the wash after....You don't LICK it after you serve a drink ESPECIALLY in front of customers. Again I understand its a dive bar but come on! That is DISGUSTING. * A while later, we ordered another cheesecake shot from the same bartender Jamie. She served it correct with the right ingredients. * This time though, we didn't receive the drink to the brim of the glass like served before. it was 3 quarters full. So we asked Jamie and was rudely informed " That's your shot, I only filled up the first one because I made it wrong".....Now we were not informed the FIRST TIME AROUND that she was doing us this gracious favor of "Filling our cup", we were under the impression that it was served that way. Not our fault she screwed up and can't do her job. * It was very obvious that we were all displeased with this. After we informed both bartenders of our displeasure, we received more rude attitude from them including a snarky, argumentative comment " I don't think anyone is being rude to you" Now working in the customer service industry for 10 years, I know that instead of arguing with the customer or making them more upset, the CORRECT procedure would have been to just pour the remaining inch of liquid in the customers cup and make them happy. That also generates repeat business and tips. A few minutes later, instead of Jamie coming to apologize for her behavior, The bartender Monica came and as per protocol, tried to ramble a excuse for her coworkers behavior. Again I understand that they are bartenders at a Dive bar and not the Ritz Carlton but customer service and SANITARY actions are expected EVERYWHERE by a customer. I will NEVER be going back to the Olive Pit on ANY OTHER day then Thursday where I know the bartender does her job and doesn't lick utensils. I will not be recommending anyone else to go to this place other then Thursday. These two bartenders ESPECIALLY Jamie needs to take a course on customer service and sanitation. I walked in here with a friend after seeing this bar on the TV show "Bar Rescue". Nobody was working the bar. We waited 10 minutes for someone to show up and then left. I'm never going back here. This bar needs to be closed because it's beyond rescuing. read more
