well, they've got the "pit" part right. look - i know people love their dives.. i love my dives.. but this one lacked even the typical dive charm. it was just.. meh. drinks were reasonable, staff was more than friendly, but the bar itself was nothing i really care to revisit. if it's your first time, it will be very hard to find - take that as an omen. i'm sure the faithful will be screaming sacrilege at this next comment, BUT... if you swanked the place up, maybe even lounged it out; couple that with the randomness of location, and you could have a pretty amazing spot. regardless, i'm sure they'll stick with the old man crying into his beer motif and be just fine with it. rock on olive pit. read more

So my girlfriend Jessica and I made the drive to this bar for a yelp event. And here's my honest review. This place is a bit difficult to find. We passed it up once before pulling into a strip mall with the street address. Walked up to an empty storefront and were about to call 411 to see if maybe the place had moved, but we saw a guy at a mini-market next to this spot and asked. We were directed down the ramp at the end of the strip mall. We entered and headed straight for the bar. 2 beers, 1 blue moon and 1 newcastle. My newcastle was a little flat, but the blue moon was great, and the bartender had the orange slices to go with it. So 2 large (20oz) for $12 - Great price. As the yelp group was getting to know each other, I stepped back and decided to play a little pool. Quarter tables at $0.75 a game. The tables were in good condition. I met a few of the locals and played a few games before going back to the yelp group. Visited the bar 4 more times for jack and cokes, twice being served by the guy bartender, and twice by the girl. I found my drinks to be nice and stiff and at $6.00 a deal. I did ask if the kitchen was still open, as i thought it might have closed early as it was already 11pm. The young lady says it will reopen on monday. And after reading a review from the young lady, who turned out to be the owner, it was closed for remodel. No problem. Jessie and I hung out till around midnight and i left with a nice buzz. I didn't see any doormen, but there were a lot of people, could have just been that i didn't know who they were. As for *they don't check ID*, well i can see how some people might have slided through, but i suspect this isn't a general rule for the place. Risking loosing a liquor license isn't something bartenders look forward to. I've worked as a doorman for 2 bars and a club, and can tell you, sometimes a guy has to take a piss, or clear some tables. Not carding is definitely something you want to avoided. so i give this place 4 stars. After all, it is a dive bar. I can't really see why anyone would give ANY dive bar a 5 star review, if they were looking for 5 stars they should be going to a lounge in Irvine or better yet making the drive outside of the *Orange Curtain*. i won't be going to this place anytime soon, as it is a little out of my way, but if I am ever around the Orange area, i will definitely stop in for a cheap beer and a game of pool. read more

No. This place is in a desolate state, floors are unfinished, walls have holes and the chairs were not set up for service. The beer tastes like the tap hasn't been cleaned. The pool cues are barely above the quality of a branch off a tree and the crowd (5-6) that night was questionable. It seemed as if someone was blatantly so smoking pot in the place because it reeked. Sign says "No shoes, no shirt, no service", however dogs are allowed. I could tell the bathrooms were old but they were "clean". Renee was the bartender and she served us right as we sat down, so that was nice. The place smelled like pot and the regulars were a little sketch. I've been known to frequent this bar from time to time. Let me get two shots of Bushmills and pitcher of Bud Lite. Drink, talk, then turn around and do what I came to do. Get my Pinball on. They have a classic machine here, Playboy. This game is straight out of the 70's, but it's still fun. They try to tease you with scantily clad girls all over the game board, but only some of them are still hot. My Favorite part is when you hear the voice saying "Jackpot hurry up". I don't know, it's just funny. The bar is nothing special just your typical dive, but it has a lot of pool tables and an Internet jukebox. read more

Oh The Olive Pit. Had it not been for all my buddies ditching me one night, I'd of never known it even existed. Came here a while back to meet up with a buddy of mine who told me to come down. It's a great spot. Drinks are cheap and consistent. No one pours a weak drink around here. The atmosphere can be a little Bro-ey, but that's becoming unavoidable here in OC nowadays. It might even be safe to say that you could come here by yourself and end up just having a good time chattin up the bartenders, all of em are cool as hell. All in all, it's a bitchin joint. Pretty cool little hidden bar. Has a huge parking lot which is nice. Few pool tables, has a ping pong table and a juke box..but the beer selection isn't my favorite. A bunch of young kids running a muck in a dirty obviously non managed rundown establishment. Stood around waiting for a drink for bout 15 min on a Monday while the bartender whom looked to be no older than 21, was enjoying her CIG outside. The regulars had expressed to help myself behind the bar as i witnessed a couple pouring themselves a drink in a 32 oz mug. I went outside and asked the bartender if I could order a drink when she had a chance with that I don't think I could've gotten a worse look or disgust in her face. 5 min later she rolled in didn't wash her hands slamming our glasses and unhappily served me and a friend. Still happily thanked and tipped her My friend had a little much to drink I had asked her to cut him off or at least only water for the next drink she gave no care and kept serving him. 4 drinks later she's kicking him out and throws his phone which she was charging behind the bar. What can I say about the Olive Pit that hasn't already been said about Afganistan? Truly a dive bar with a fiesty local crowd. The prices are good (big Stella around $5) and the drinks strong (more Jager than bomb). Weekend nights used to be real crowded but the occasional OPD sweep usually thins out the herd. The jukebox is loud and stocked with a variety of tunes. Sundays here are pretty mellow. read more

I wouldn't come back here if it wasn't for the food...by far best wings I have ever eaten in my 30 years!!! We have been trying to find a good med. place to eat and we have finally found it! The location is kinda weird and out of the way from the middle of Huntington, but it is worth the drive. This is specifically a 5 star post for Nicki. I go here from time to time and ALWAYS expect horrible service. Usually the bartenders won't notice you unless a penis is attached to your body. But my girl Nicki took great care of my cousin and me who were trying to have a fun girls night out, something that doesn't get to happen very often. Some drunk dude kept trying to come on to us and every time he approached us she would come over and shoo him away and tell him to leave us alone. After having an extremely bad day and my car is in the shop and my boyfriend had told me that this is a really cool place to go. We both went in there and ordered a couple drinks and started to play pool. The beautiful Latina behind the counter with short shorts and stockings decided it would be funny to make fun of my accent while I was trying to order a drink using a terrible, trashy, English accent... I'm Tasmanian, Australian and this is a huge disrespect. I really just wanted to chill and drink but she comfortable that we left after two games and one drink each. She kept on doing the accent the entire time I was there with other people's orders. The crowd at the bar was not entertained but she kept on doing it anyways. I promise you I will not be going back there as long as she is there. I've been going to Olive Pit for years. I used to know the owner, the security guard and all of the bartenders. To the point I could walk in and they would ask me if I wanted the usual. I stopped going for a while but came back today and to say I was disappointed is a massive understatement. I went to play pool with my one of my two friends I arrived with and we discovered our table was missing a ball. But this is just where things started: We asked our other friend to grab a ball from the side closet because we've been going there for years and know that's where they keep the balls and we had always been welcome to go back there and grab them. Now our friend asked permission first, he didn't just waltz into the room. When the bartender said no, he explained how we're regulars and we've always been allowed to grab the ball we need. At this point, I could understand her simply saying no and we would have respected that. But the bartender started freaking out and thinking we were trying to rob them or something! Our friend respectfully, without raising his voice or even arguing, walked back over to us and said we should leave. So we finished our drinks and walked to the bar to pay. Upon getting to the bar, we saw the bartender was on the phone with who I could only assume was either police or the bar management. I heard her saying things like yes, they're over 21, yes I checked their IDs. We politely asked if we could pay and leave. The other few bar patrons there sort of turned on us at this point as if we had committed a crime. Giving us looks and one man even walked past us to the bathroom and said "how'd you like it if I kicked your chair out from under you?" as he walked behind us. Then another patron was making phone calls and we just really wanted to leave. I felt as if they were calling in friends to "rough us up" or something when we got outside. Eventually, the bartender came over and closed each one of us out. I paid, even tipped, then went straight for my car. Fortunately, no one was waiting outside. I will never be going back to this place. I remember when the security guard used to be there, none of this nonsense happened. He was a legitimate security guard and organized security for major events like Oktoberfests and the like. So he wasn't just some freelance nobody. He also had a concealed carry license, so if things were to escalate, I knew he would be able to incapacitate a threat. But this time, with no one there to ensure our safety, I actually felt scared for my life. The bar patrons there were rowdy and wanted to involve themselves in an issue that never should have existed in the first place. I could understand the bartender and the patrons being upset if we were misbehaving. But we conducted ourselves with the utmost politeness, never raised our voice, said please and thank you, 100% polite, even when these people were demonizing us for no reason. If anyone is reading this review, please do yourself a favor and avoid Olive Pit. Even if it was once good, the place is now just scary. It seems like the sort of place you hear on the news where someone got stabbed outside. And that's how I felt tonight while rushing to get in my car and leave. I was very pleasantly suprised when I ordered food at The Olive Pit. My husband and I stopped by for a beer and a game of pool and found out they served food. He ordered a cheeseburger and I had a Philly Cheese Steak sandwiched. He said it was the best burger he had ever had and my Cheese Steak sandwich was very good. We went after watching Bar Rescue since it was one of the first episodes we had seen where the bar had been local (and to try one of new sandwiches) --- and also heard that the cook was out. We were there midday so it was of course slow, but the bartender (Michelle) was very welcoming, served us quickly and made sure that pizza was brought in since we'd come in for lunch. Went there with my brothers on a week night just to have fun and grab a couple beers. First off we walk in to "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" which isn't the type of music I would want to hear when walking into a place for the first time. It got worse from there. The girl bartender was good and sweet (probably working it for her tip) but I didn't even know there was another bartender because he was sitting with two of his sketchy looking friends drinking. All of them were so concerned with playing this bowling game. Back to the music..... it got worse. The guy bartender and his dumb cronies played vulgar song after vulgar song which made the mood inappropriate. I highly highly highly doubt this is even on their jukebox but the guy jukebox and his sideburn enthusiast friend knew every vulgar lyric. Lastly, the whole time we were there we were sweating. As in they didn't even turn on the A/C but had two fans and left their doors open. We were intrigued having heard that this bar was on Bar Rescue but after visiting we can see how this place lives up to its name. Its a pit. Probably more along the line of a s*** hole than a pit but thats neither here nor there. read more

Ok, if you can accept it for what it is, the Olive Pit can be a really chill place. Cheap pricing, super random location, but weirdly cool location (its impossible to describe it, u just have to go), strong drinks, and the girl that works the counter the last couple of times ive gone was very friendly. Olive Pit is a quintessential dive bar. Dark and grimy and awesome for it. The flies can be interesting, and are generally friendly and somewhat amusing. Honestly its a working class bar and it can get rowdy, but if you know how to conduct yourself (and any self respecting bar patron should know how to act) then you'll be fine. Generally not very crowded, I was there a few Thursday's ago and and there maybe 8 other people, but thats what cool, if you want to shoot a few laid back games of pool, slam some beers, talk to a couple of randoms, and actually get to hear your song play on the juke box, than the pit just might be the place for you. read more
