This place is top-notch! Very friendly staff and all the animals are very well taking care of. The place is clean and well maintained. The adoption process went seamless. The staff absolutely makes sure that these animals get the best home possible. We are so happy with our cats. We adopted 3 from the same litter and named them: Mike, Benjamin, and Lilly. They even get along with our dog Marley. Their personalities are so sweet and playful. I hate to post these types of reviews, but sincerely feel the public needs to be aware: H O R R I B L E business practices! I regret not doing my due diligence in researching this rescue before inquiring about an 8 week kitten posted on their website. Adoption fee supposedly includes shots, spay and microchipping. They will also upsell you into purchasing pet food and supplies during the process. (Which unfortunately we did, thinking we were supporting a good cause). They were accommodating when it was to their benefit - such as making an appointment to meet an animal they post on their site, and the adoption process. Once you pay the adoption fee and take your new pet home, they will then make it EXTREMELY difficult to schedule appointments for the included shots and spay. All documents and emails provided are typed out in ALL CAPS and are disorganized and confusing. In addition, you will be pressured to abide by their last minute strict appointment scheduling with no consideration of your time. We dealt with a Noelle who handles these documents and appointments. We did everything requested from us with their last minute scheduling, and then the time to schedule the spay came. BEWARE - she is rude, difficult, impatient and EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL and will not hesitate to raise her voice, tell you to "go away" and hang up on you. The tactic is that you are unable to keep these appointments so you break contract and seek shots, microchipping and spay elsewhere on your own dime. THEN they expect you to provide them proof so they can "close their books." Meanwhile, they keep the costs that is supposedly covered by the adoption fee. Unbelievable. Disappointed. Disgusted. Since I've left a review stating my opinion with the Better Business Bureau about your shelter, you have posted some false and misleading information. I won't waste too much time with this because once I've shown clear proof that what you are saying is a lie there will be no need to say more. Lie 1: We talked to you on the phone and said we'd take her back if her behavior didn't improve at the shelter. You kept reassuring us that this reaction is normal for a protective new mom. We also had this conversation with you via text (screenshot proof). Your response to us is that she needs time to adjust and we need to consider whether it is best for us and Bailey to bring her hom. However, we also knew that a mother shouldn't be removed from her less than a week old puppies, especially considering that despite our efforts to keep them alive, one of them had passed away. Lie 2: I left Bailey in an empty house unattended. This is the boldest lie yet because I've lived at the same home for almost two years with my dogs. Proof in the picture (background, area, etc.).. the same for the entire time). My pets are well taken care of. no one takes their pets with them to work in which I do work a lot but that doesn't equal pets left in a vacant house. Way to stretch details. When I come home, my dogs are indoors then let out during the day. Lie 3: I'm too busy to care about my dog. I only stopped coming to the shelter because you told me too. You said it may be better if she didn't see me anymore after you started expressing your frustration with her behavior and my work schedule. My partner offered to come by but our schedules did not align with your and you weren't willing to make other arrangements with us. You said she'd be protective because she just had puppies and rehomed less than five days after birth. We relied on your word as the rescue. We went by what you said that this is normal behavior for some new mother dogs. We have personally never seen her behave aggressive. The evidence is in the screenshot. We have since consulted with other vets and rescue and they have said this is normal behavior for some dogs after giving birth and being relocated abruptly. We were also told that not every can handle Huskies this is why it is important to screen fosters, adoptions home etc.. It appears that you just wanted the puppies. I could be wrong, but that is how you came off to us. We are glad that no one was hurt, but this doesn't justify you making up lies. I had a bad feeling when I was pressed for a donation and the condition of the shelter. At home, Bailey had a big backyard to play on during the day and was indoors at night. (Proof provide with photos) The energy wasn't right but that was my mistake by allowing the stress to impair my judgment. One thing you are right about, Bailey should not have gotten pregnant, but we were unawares that her The brother at the time could get her pregnant at 9 months. When I first contacted a vet about this, they said they were too young. It is recommended to wait until 11 months or 1 year old. Considering what happened, he is now spayed and he's old enough. Again, proof is all in the photos and screenshots of everything I've said. I do hope Bailey is alive but we have no way of knowing because you never gave us updates after you told us whatbyou were considering. You cut off communication and we have tried to get in touch with you. if you want to keep this up we can but I think we both know what really happened. I adopted Emily from them about 3 years ago. I saw her on a Facebook post and the story was just so sad. What was even more sad was that no one had placed an application for her. I did my research and filled out an application for her. They want the people who adopt their animals to treat them like children and part of the family BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE! If you can't see them as such they have the right to not let you adopt and I applaud them for that. I went to meet Emily 2 days later after I was told I was approved to adopt. I spent some time with Emily and it was love at first paw grip. Lol. I didn't think twice. The adoption fee is not a lot considering they vaccinate, spay/neuter, and chip them. I went here looking to adopt a kitten. I have a few things to say about this place. First, they are very abrupt. There is no need for the type of attitude you receive whenever you call or show up for shots. They are condescending. After my kitten's last shot, they didn't say when his next would be or that he was done for a year. When I called, they treated me like I should already know this. Mind you, they said it was in his paperwork and I could have checked, but it didn't deserve the type of response I got. I got him on the list for neuter. The list is probably long because they are not on a regular schedule. That's understandable. I took him elsewhere 2 weeks ago and when they called to schedule him, they forgot to hang up while talking crap about me not telling them right away. I knew I would have to tell them, but wasn't aware I was obligated to immediately. I wouldn't be leaving a review if it weren't for this call I just had with them. These people are exceptionally rude, you can expect to spent a long time there as they don't seem to do things timely when you visit, and they don't answer the phone half the time, return calls, or respond to emails. My first experience with them was when I got my kitten. I had an appointment to see another kitten and they told me to come, but didn't have record of my appointment when I showed. Someone else who had an appointment at the same time ended up with her. Very disorganized and I was disappointed. I recommend not coming here if you can avoid it. read more

Came in on a rainy Sunday to see a few people sitting on the floor at the entrance, playing with a few kittens. No "hello" or "welcome." The lady just continued to attend to her current clients. After a few moments, she got up and asked us what we wanted with no sense of welcome or friendliness to her. She only wanted to know if we had been to any other shelters. She then instructed us to go to the cat room by ourselves, turn the corner and wash our hands. Upon entering the cat room, our noses were immediately assaulted with such a strong scent of chemicals and other animals smells; this scent was strongest in the bathroom. After having washed our hands, we then were attended to by another lady and she helped us a bit by giving us her opinions and helping us to play with the cat we were interested in. Now we told the first lady of the cats we were interested in but she failed to warn us that the cat we would be seeing has a few behavioral issues and both my husband and I got bitten. The lady in the back did tell us afterwards, but we had already gotten bitten. Another thing, once I disclosed that my husband is allergic to cats, the first lady became even colder and made us feel like we were wasting her time. She told us to go to a breeder because basically the moment we disclose this allergy, they would not give us any chance to adopt a cat. She then left us. Mind you, my husband has been in cat cafes before and with other cats in cleaner environments with no problem. He also did not have any symptoms until later that night. I have been contacting other shelters and rescues since then and I have received much better treatment. Other shelters have been understanding of our situation and they have given us more information and options to work with. They were not dismissive of us like this lady had been to us. Our visit here was our very first time exploring the world of possibly adopting a cat and it was such an unpleasant experience. I tried really hard to let this go, and I couldn't... so here's my first yelp review: My boyfriend and I went in today to see a black kitten that had been posted on their website. Long story short, the woman in charge inadvertently accused us of wanting to sacrifice the little kitty and drink his blood on Halloween. Mind you, as I stated several times we wouldn't have brought the kitten home till next week (after Halloween), but this woman was adamant about this so called blood ritual, lol. Ok. Also mind you, I stated on the application that the kitten would be confined to indoors for at least a year. Because of this, game over. Apparently "her cats" are never to be outdoors, therefore my application was instantaneously denied. I live on a very large, beautiful property and it is completely mind blowing that somehow cramming 30-40 animals into a very small office space, with terrible ventilation is somehow more humane? Lol, ok psycho. It was painfully obvious that this woman was very attached to "her cats" and that any persons application would be denied by her because she wants to keep them all. I don't understand who in their right mind would allow a completely delusional woman who makes her decisions off of urban myths and shit she reads on Instagram, to manage their business. Lastly, the squalid conditions and lack of ventilation are the reasons many of the animals had infected eyes and were sneezing. This establishment proved to counter its mission statement by denying the animals a home for extremely trivial and unreasonable internal policies that were not communicated. I attempted to adopt two cats yet was denied due to stating on the application that "they would be outdoor and/or indoor - whatever the cat preferred." I do not understand how that would be a "red flag" for the business seeing as my family is financially stable and have the emotional and mental maturity to love and take care of an animal. If their intent is to keep the animals in a stuffy room in a strip mall, then they are succeeding! If their mission is, in fact, to obtain loving homes for the adoptees, I advise them to change their cognitive perception of what a home is! Stay as far away as possible. This is a toxic, sick, manipulative organization. We saw a puppy on their website and filled out an application. The response from the "rescue" was immediate. We spent a very long week retro-fitting our house as the 'rescue' demanded. We purchased 5 different safety gates, a crate, a playpen, two different beds, two carriers, training pads, many toys and a plethora of other paraphernalia for the puppy. (Below are only a few of the many pictures we sent to this rescue to show our dedication and enthusiasm for adopting this puppy.) We rented a car, reserved a hotel room (non-refundable) b/c we were driving from NoCal and we had to be absolutely sure we were on time for a 12:00pm pick-up time on Friday, b/c we were told that is the only time the 'rescue' had available. We jumped through every hoop this place asked --and more. WAIT FOR IT!  We were in our rental car at 6:00pm on our way to SoCal on Thursday night when we received an 3-sentence email saying that the "Board" really loves heir animals and "we're not feeling at ease and and can not move forward." SHE CANCELLED THE ADOPTION LESS THAN 18 HOURS PRIOR TO OUR APPOINTMENT. The woman who runs this so-called rescue is dead wrong!  We are the BEST dog guardians on this planet! Did this woman who was "not feeling at ease" talk to our allopathic vet?  Did she talk to our homeopathic vet?  Did she speak to our trainer?  Did she speak to our dog-sitter? Did she ask to speak to our references? No, No, No, No and again No!  Instead she applied her own jaded feelings about people, generalized those dark feelings and projected that dim view of humanity onto us. And she did all of this based on less than 20 minutes on the phone with me. The truth is that the woman running this place blatantly manipulates emotionally and psychologically. Every email was an attempt to create an imbalance of power, and take advantage of us, to get power and control. She is a small-minded, insecure person who should hang her head in shame at the condescending, disingenuous, unscrupulous way she treats good people. I had an emergency surgery & they only gave me 3 days to reply to their email for a spay appt., I obviously was unable to check my emails during my emergency situation & they would not cover my dog to be spay. After seeing one of their posts on Facebook about a sweet dog waiting to find her forever home, we decided to visit the Ontario Rescue. We were hoping to meet Ginger and see how she responded to us. When we arrived, it took several minutes before we were finally greeted by a...staffer? Volunteer? Employee? In any case, she wasn't particularly friendly or helpful. After grilling us to make sure we hadn't been to any other shelters that day, she told us to wash our hands and we could see the cats. We asked about Ginger then, and she informed us that someone was coming to adopt her that very afternoon. After we were done washing our hands as instructed, she pointed to the cats and the one dog that she said was available for adoption and then basically disappeared. We walked around the room to make sure we weren't missing anything and then left, never to return again. It sounds like others have had great experiences with this organization, and it seems that they do what they can for the animals that they receive. Too bad they treated us like such crap. And to add insult to injury, they posted on Facebook a full two+ weeks after our visit that Ginger had "finally been adopted." Real nice. read more

This rescue is amazing! I found them online while searching for pet rats to adopt. I recently lost one of my boys and felt that he (and me) would benefit from having some new cage mates. I was surprised to see that The Ontario Rescue had rats since it seems that you can only get them from breeders in this area (and I would rather adopt of course)! I called and the lady on the phone was very informative. I went in that same day and took my new boys home! All of the employees were friendly and accommodating. They were so nice about giving me time to choose which ones I wanted. The application process was quick but thorough, and I love that they really made sure I would provide a great home for these guys. THE ONLY REASON TO ADOPT IS TO GET THESE BABIES OUT OF THIS HORRIBLE FACILITY. There's vomit, feces, and food everywhere in the room where the animals are kept. We're happy our baby, we adopted, is with us and out of this place. Their customer service is appalling. While adopting they were very cordial, but once we adopted the friendly service went away. We paid for vaccines and for our girl to get fixed in her contract, but my mother missed an appointment (due to getting the date wrong) and when the owner called to inform her she was extremely hostile and told my mother she would need to get her vaccines elsewhere. She then, hung up on my mother. My mother attempted to call back, but they answered the phone only to hang up again. read more

I am a tad confused by some of the negative reviews, so I wanted to put in a review with my experiences at the rescue. First off, this is not a state/city funded place so there will not be numerous people standing around. The individuals who work/volunteer here are BUSY, it happens you know when you have animals to take care of. November 2015, I adopted a beautiful Tortie from them. I filled out the application, and answered ALL the questions. I received a call from them the next day and was told I could adopt the beautiful little princess if I wanted. The only thing wrong with the entire adoption process was the bait and switch the cat pulled on us, she went from a lovable, cuddly cat to a prissy little princess who will only allow you to hold her when she deems you worthy hahaha. In April 2016, I adopted an iguana they had taken in. It is a cat/dog/bunny rescue but they have a difficult time turning down an animal in need. I still have him, and he has gone from an angry little monster, to an angry large monster who I absolutely love (Yes, he is an angry monster, but that is what male iguanas do during breeding season). In March 2019, I was almost able to adopt a large snake they took in because he needed help. Sadly, he was too far gone, and I was not able to adopt him. Say what you will about this place but they REFUSE to give up on an animal. The Boa needed injections, and they had to assist him in eating, just shows the distance they go for an animal. It is a great rescue, and the owner does what she can for the animals. read more

I had an appointment for vaccination for my kitten, they only gave us a 15minutes window to get to the rescue although everything (vaccination and shots) is already paid for along with the adoption fees. The lady told us we cannot get the vaccine appointment anymore and would have to get a vaccination outside with another vet, and show proof later. When I ask her for a recommendation to see where they usually bring their pets for vaccinations and shots, she told me to GOOGLE SEARCH!!! DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE. On 01/03/2021 I adopted a kitten from the the resuce, he was under 8 weeks, not fully vaccinated or neutered. The actually facility itself is disgusting, the smell of urine and feces over run the place. The animals look unwell and not cared for. The staff and manager are beyond rude and inconsiderate. They talked badly about other adopters in front of me very nonchalantly. The employees look miserable. The application process was a JOKE, the manager told be if I didn't buy a crate for the kitten I wouldn't be able to get him. This was at 7 PM the night before the adoption day. Of I went a did what was told because I wanted my kitten. They also over charged me from cat litter that was $15 and bag and they asked for $25, and a small ziploc bag of food that was $10, they made it seem like I had to buy it from them or I couldn't take my kitten home. I signed a contact that I would follow up with his future shots and neuter. Per the contract it states any appointments canceled cannot be rescheduled. On Friday, 04/02/2021 at 1:30 pm I was contacted by the shelter to schedule my kittens neutering, they said they scheduled him for 04/22/2021, I told them I needed to get back to them, not once in the conversation did they say this appointment was unable to be rescheduled. My husband and I both work for the Air Force so I told them I needed time to speak to our supervisors to get time off. I reached out to them 04/05/2021 to ask if there's another available date and that's when they stated the appointment that I DID NOT confirm from the beginning was unable to be rescheduled. There was no consideration or proper communication with the shelter. Once again, save yourself the trouble and heartache. The only good thing that came from this was my kitten beside that this place and the people in it are garbage. read more

Rescue doesn't honor their own contracts. Sky high adoption fees that "include vaccines and neutering" unless you upset them. They reliate if you make a complaint. They will ghost you then harass you to uphold the contract even though they won't honor their end. Steer clear of this rescue. Has a very low rating from the Better Business Bureu. The Ontario Rescue is my favorite rescue!! They have a very strict adoption policy, they don't just give up their animals to anyone who wants one. They make sure it's the right fit and a life time commitment. There are too many people who adopt animals in this world and shouldn't be pet owners because they really aren't committed in the long run. I am happy to say they make the best possible effort to avoid this from happening. They work their butts off to make sure that the place stays clean and the animals are well taken care of and don't get any disease brought in from the outside. So if you are sensitve and don't quite understand the philosophy behind a very strict adoption policy, then maybe this isn't the place for you. But, if you can deal with a bit of scrutiny and really want a pet that is healthy and well socialized, then go for it. I'm absolutely blessed finding this place and I am so shocked just reading the reviews that the service was rude ! I had the best service Ever!!! and I am obsessed with my new fur baby Tommie. Yes they ask you questions and there is a process to adopt and that is a sure sign that they care about their animals. I was happy to see they loved all their animals and took the time to make sure I was a fit! These volunteers are amazing and a blessing. About this time last year, we went to the Rescue looking to adopt a bunny. I had to complete an application and send pictures of environment that the bunny would live in. In addition to that, I had to make sure that the cage was large enough for the bunny to move around and answer a few questions. Clearly, they were very concerned about the new home the bunny would be going to. Well, our adoption was approved and our bunny, Milky, is a member of the family! She's rarely in her cage and is very intelligent with a playful side. I recommend this place if you're interested in adopting a rabbit. They really care about these animals. read more

Negative 100 stars! This place is a joke! We adopted an animal from here, everyone is just rude there. Contact included neutering, I made an appointment to have him neutered and when I came for the app the lady that was there was so rude and cursed me out and told me to leave bcuz I didn't have a carrier, after I told her I wanted to purchase one! Don't go here! Get ur pets else where! They don't care about pets here and don't do what their contracts states! read more

This review is way over do! We had a great experience adopting our pup maybe 6 months ago from the Ontario rescue!! They're cautious about making sure you wash your hands before interacting with the animals for the animals well being, and I'm glad they do. Our pups been in great health. They're really friendly and caring about the animals and also want to be sure the animals are getting a safe and loving home. We have nothing but great things to say about our experience adopting from the rescue and we're so glad they took great care of our pup before we met her! read more

READ THIS IF YOU DOUBT ABOUT GOING TO CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!!! This place is AMAZING! I'll admit, I checked the Yelp! reviews and was truthfully going to consider passing on this place as I live in Yorba Linda and it was a bit out of the way. However, I wanted to be thorough in my search for a kitten. So, trusting my instinct, I drove the hour out to check this place out. When you first walk in, you enter through what looks like a regular pet store with a few kennels in the front with cats/kittens in them. There are pet supplies towards the back, but to your left is a door and inside is an entire room (about the size of a small business) that is filled with cats and rabbits! Most of the cats wander freely about and can be seen cuddling with the rabbits and other cats! Every creature there is super friendly and very loving. The place is so clean it is impressive! There were a few volunteers there that were very friendly and everyone at the facility was super knowledgeable. The staff there was NEVER stationary, they were always doing something to assist the animals- cleaning, feeding, distributing medicine and of course giving their love to these sweet babies! The staff knows the background of most of these animals and the situations they come from. They were more than happy to answer any questions we had regarding care, where the animals came from and so on. The adoption application LOOKS super intimidating and it APPEARS like you have to jump through hoops to give one of these babies a good home. Don't let that scare you away! If you have any questions on the application, the staff is EXTREMELY helpful and will explain things to you. They do care a lot about the home you are going to provide, as a lot of these animals are RESCUE. They came from bad situations and the staff cares enough to make sure these animals won't be put in similar situations. We filled out the application and got our answer within minutes. We adopted two wonderful kittens. This place is indeed a NO KILL shelter. I read a review about "needing to get rid of them" and yes, the shelter does need to get rid of the animals-TO A GOOD HOME. Once a space opens up, another animal that is in need can be helped. As for having to buy their food? Yes, you should- let me explain: You don't need to feed your adopted baby their food indefinitely. They want you to buy the food because it is what the animals are on at their facility. ANYTIME (even at home) if you are switching foods, you are NOT suppose to just introduce new food. You NEED to mix the new one with the old one. We bought a small bag of food and we have a bag of food we want to switch them to, but to avoid the animals getting sick and/or having diarrhea we are going to ween them off their old food. Remember, this is a shelter, not a pet store. They rely on assistance from volunteers and people do have bad days. Don't let that discourage you from going to check this place out. It is worth it and I think if I ever need to adopt another cat/kitten, I would only go here. I recommend the hell out of this place. Even if you don't end up adopting, at least you got to play with some wonderful animals whom adore and want your affection. read more
