Well, the first nail in our The Orchard coffin came in 2022, when they discontinued the complimentary salad or soup with an entree. I know that's silly, but the entree prices remained sky-high and I didn't feel like paying extra for my beloved Signature salad. We went for Christmas Night dinner recently, and we were seated in the overflow room. The vibe of the restaurant is nice enough, but the overflow room was painted a 1998 goldenrod yellow shade, the carpet smelled of old fry grease, and there was virtually no christmas decor or vibe to speak of. I was in a hotel conference room, eating a middling Christmas bit of roasted chicken. Wouldn't do that again. And finally, we went on a regular Saturday night for a date night. It was a simple enough order, no customizations, but the halibut was unfathomably salty. Dried mushrooms were rehydrated in pure Kikkoman, they were inedible. So too were the salmon tacos oversalted. Like, you don't just thickly coat Tony Chatcherie's onto your fish, but that's what it was! I had all the heat and salt of it tearing at my mouth-skin. It reminded me of when my college boyfriend was trying really hard to make me a nice dinner for me, but he clearly didn't know what he was doing and I had to gum it down to be a grateful sport about it. They forgot the dinner rolls, we asked for ranch but the kitchen was "making it" the whole duration of our meal? The juice isn't worth the squeeze anymore, The Orchard. You used to be fan-friggin-tastic, so sorry to lose you as a formidable option in Claremont for locals seeking consistent food in a quiet corner. read more

This place is attached to the Doubletree located in Claremont on Foothill Boulevard We were there for breakfast and can vouch for the bacon, potatoes and rye bread. They were all very good. My wife had the avocado toast she said was very good too. Was at a hotel, but did not taste like hotel food, that is a big compliment. Service was good. Chairs comfortable. read more

My first time coming to The Orchard. it's located inside the Double Tree in Claremont. I always go there for the cookies but didn't know they had this restaurant . Went there on May 28th for my aunts birthday. The food was really good and not pricey at all. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and a ceaser salad . It was really good, and ohhhhhh let's not forget the cheese bread they bring to the table. delicious. My aunt had the prime rib and my cousin had the prime rib sandwich. they also loved their good.. My friends raved about their prime rib sandwiches on Wednesdays for weeks. So, tonight I ordered one of those sandwiches to/go. First of all, the price for the sandwich has increased $2 since 3 weeks ago when my friends were there. They had also been impressed with the amount of prime rib in the Sandwich. My friend said the meat was " piled high". Well, not ours tonight. The meat was overcooked and dry. Thinly sliced with mushrooms and cheese. Not much meat at all! Over $20 for this sandwich. Location seemed very out dated. No one greeted any 9f us as we arrived. It seemed as if they do kot expect many customers at the restaurant. Even entering the hotel lobby, no one greeted us I had to try to maje eye contact with one of the four ladies at the counter to ask which way to the restaurant. Surprised this place has such a high rating. Service was not the best, very slow on drink refills and first drink orders took over 15 minutes. Food then took about 45 mins and was not great. Chicken was very tough not cooked properly and the meal didn't have much flavor. Restaurant atmosphere was nice, but didn't really make up for the rest. The Orchard is wonderful. We are on first name basis with most of the staff, including the chef. We live in the area and visit often. We met a friend here for a snack and enjoyed the gorgeous patio with its water fountain wall and gas fire pits. It was a bit expensive but exactly what we expected at the hotel. The food came in surprisingly large portions so much for the plan to snack - the curly fries that I ordered came out in a HUGE pile. My husband and I had lunch here on Independence Day, and it was also prime rib day so we ordered prime rib sandwiches. I do not eat red meat very often, and when I do, it's such a treat that I'm not hard to please. I really enjoyed my sandwich, but my husband said it was just ok. Fast forward to early October, and we attended a wine pairing dinner here showcasing wines from Patine Cellars. The Manager of Double Tree is friends with Jim Fox, vintner of Patine Cellars and commentator and former player of the LA Kings. Together they hosted a wonderful night of delicious dishes matched up to great wines. The Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon were the only wines that were not Patine wines, but they were made by the same winemaker. Interestingly, Patine only makes/sells Pinot Noir. So we had about three different Pinot Noirs, all excellent, and many wonderful dishes-- Texas Redfish, Duck Ravioli, Foie Gras & Truffle Risotto, Lamb Chop, Prime Rib, and a Chocolate dessert. The chef did an amazing job with the food. My favorite was the fish and the lamb. I normally do not like foi gras for many reasons, including texture, but with the risotto it was enjoyable. The dessert was so decadent and something I would order again and again, but I was too stuffed to finish. Overall, I was very impressed with the food, and of course the wine, and the service was excellent as well. It almost felt like dining at some high end place in Los Angeles. Only the second restaurant in the Claremont area at which everything we ordered was great (and I've tried many). I had the Cedar Plank Salmon. I asked for mashed potatoes instead of rice and they were totally easy-going about the switch. The salmon was tender, cooked perfectly. We also ordered Scallops, cooked perfectly as well. (So important! Overcooking just ruins seafood.) All of the side veggies were cooked and seasoned just right. They had a tasty Caesar Salad that had the right creamy/anchovy texture/flavor that a traditional Caesar should have. Smooth and rich coffee and a very delicious Toffee Cake Desert. We ordered it with their Vanilla Bean ice cream, which was a match made in heaven. Just adore their patio with a relaxing water wall, wood tables, garden, and heat lamps. They have a happy hour at 5pm with drink specials. Service is professional and friendly. It's not cheap food, but my philosophy is eat less and order better food! You can always save some money on drinks by going during happy hour. The happy hour wine was very good. I like Chardonnays that are full and buttery and not very oaky, which is just what they had. This will be both a regular happy hour and dinner spot for me from here on in! read more

Back for our annual visit to family in Claremont and I just have to say that this restaurant is unaware of the labor shortage. The Orchard is not only well staffed, but each staff person is remarkably personable and professional. Waited another 30 minutes (patiently) flagged down the guy waiter to ask for a menu... 10 minutes still nothing.. honestly felt like he was purposely ignoring us.. so we decided to leave but when I asked him about why we never received menu's on our way out he told me he didn't see us.. and kinda mumbled and walked away while I was talking to him. First, let me say that the service was excellent. Absolutely no complaints in that department. The food was okay. Definitely not worth the rave reviews I saw on Yelp that made me try it. The tomato soup was a little bland. The charcuterie plate had slices of cheese. The flank steak tasted okay but was nothing special. It's definitely a chain hotel restaurant. Claremont has so many really good restaurants. If you're in a hurry and okay food works for you, then this one will be fine. If your palate is a little more discerning, however, I'd say you should give it a pass. read more
