Home is where the heart is and the heart of SOMA is at The Order. I don't have a photo of my food though I've been here over 20 times. This is because the food is made to order and out of this world. I typically don't play around upon delivery. The service is the best hospitality I've experienced since I was a server giving A+ hospitality. They're warm, aware and focused on their customers. The ambiance is adorable, feminine and rich. Hands down my favorite place in SOMA/Essex County
I feel that this place is due for an update review, and no surprise here, it's still stellar. I came here with a friend and we sat outside. It was perfect weather for outdoor seating. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The owner even came out with our food. He is so nice and I still love his mom who is always in the background. My friend got the oh damn and I got the truffle and Parmesan fries. I didn't try his sandwich because I'm vegetarian but he said it was delicious and he loved how the owner served it by saying oh damn. It was a cute moment. I could write a love sonnet about the fries which was served with aioli and ketchup for dipping. We both got drinks, I got the iced chai latte and he got the iced chagachai. I liked his slightly better than my own, but both were delicious. The menu hasn't changed much which I appreciate, but would love if there were a few more vegetarian options. Is tandoori tofu a potential option? I love this place for a lot of reasons, but mostly because it feels like coming home. Service never disappoints and neither does the food. This place is a treat and I can't wait to come back.
Always one of my favorite brunch places ... even with the crowds and the wait. It is a beautifully designed space and the staff couldn't be nicer. I appreciate the owners/managers reminding guests that there will be a wait because they cook things fresh and with care. That it will be worth it. The variety of drinks and whimsical menu item names makes it fun. What a great spot!
Ok. I love this place, and I've been a regular since day 1. But ther is one issue that I cannot ignore. The lack of vegetarian items or vegetarian friendly pricing. Sure, I can just not get the side of bacon or sausage - but since those sides are $4-$5 - I wish they would adjust the pricing. Eggs, with no meat should not cost $20. They include the option to select no meat - but then charge you as if you got it anyway. If you get less food, especially an expensive item like meat, I should pay less. Anyway - I know - just don't eat there, and I generally don't anymore. But it's a shame and an easy fix to appeal to everyone. And an expensive proposition for non-meat eaters.
This place was so so good! Came here with friends on a trip to NJ and it did not disappoint. It was busy when we got there and there was a bit of a wait but it was worth it. The restaurant is very cute a bit small. The staff were friendly and nice. The food is so delicious. We had gotten their fried chicken sandwich and lattes, yes a strange sounding combination but it was brunch time when we came. The fries were so good and were seasoned so well. If I come back to NJ I'll definitely be coming back here.
I met up with a friend for a belated birthday brunch. It is such a cute location and very tastefully decorated. They have limited seating so it was a wait but it probably was not more than 20 minutes. We just waited standing up at the space near their entrance. There is paid street parking in front and a paid parking lot behind for your convenience. - Hot Chaga Latte with no espresso with oat milk - Iced White Chocolate Chai with oat milk - Mini Hot Cakes kids meal (three mini olive oil & lemon pancakes, blueberry, banana, cinnamon-bourbon infused maple syrup) - Fried Chicken thigh - The Harry sandwich (Grilled chicken, thick cut hickory smoked pork bacon, tomato, arugula, onion, Monterey Jack cheese, & chipotle aioli on a choice of sourdough, multigrain or ciabatta - we subbed pork bacon with turkey) I ventured out and tried the Chaga drink that I've never even heard of before and although it's not my taste I think it's cool for them to have unusual items on the menu. A plus for all the milk substitute and also for turkey bacon. There was only one weird exchange that moved my 4 stars to a 3 stars. Our server mentioned that their fried chicken was good and suggested a couple dishes with it included but I wasn't that hungry so I ordered a kids meal of the mini hot cakes but was able to add a piece of fried chicken on the side. When it came it looked a little overcooked and when I took a small bite into it saw that it was dry, the meat was stringy, and the batter was completely separated from the chicken. I called the server over and asked if that was how their chicken normally came because hey if that's how it is then that's how it is, to each their own. He took a look and said no worries I will take it to the back and get you another piece. He came back a while later with the same piece and said that they told him that that's how it comes and it is dark because of the paprika they use to season it. He said he would take it off the bill and asked if I wanted to still keep it. I thought about it and said yeah just leave it on the table because I thought hey, maybe it'll still be good even with those issues if they assured me that it comes that way. If it ended up being fine on the inside even though the side I bit into was dry I would just pay for it. I didn't even get a chance to try it again because a bit later a woman comes over and takes the chicken off the table because he took it off the bill. It was such an awkward exchange made put a bad taste in my mouth. Overall everything else was pleasant and our server was lovely. I think he did everything he could given the situation. I wouldn't come back personally but think it has a lot of potential.
Matcha Latte was delicious and the Dumbledore breakfast platter was so yummy with the right amount of portions. The platter was savory, so added straberrry jam for my biscuit added a nice light sweet balance. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating. Look forward to returning.
5 stars for the Fiona egg sandwich, it was really excellent and full of flavor. One of my kids didn't love the ricotta pancakes, I'm betting the regular pancakes would have been a bigger hit. Onion rings were fried very well and super crunchy. I hope the restaurant starts offering some more innovative vegetarian options. Sadly no bowl options for those not eating meat.
Stopped by to meet up with a friend and would definitely go back. We only ordered fries and coffee but it was really good and reasonably priced. The wait can be a little long depending on when you go but our servers were all very nice. I also liked that you could just order online and not have to deal with the bill. There are standard food and drink options as well as some that are a bit more interesting. I would definitely take a chance and try some of the more interesting items next time.
Loved this cute little bistro in south Orange NJ. Allison our server was engaging and knowledgeable. Had the chocolate chip cookies amazing. The baked omelettes/frittata were scrumptious. Had passion fruit soda. And coffees were amazing.
This place as a nice change of pace from your normal breakfast. The service was great and very attentive. The ambiance in the place was super cute. The food was very tasty and filling I had the Ruth. the steak was well seasoned. The herb potatoes and pickled onions went well together. My Dirty Chai was mad to perfection. The peach juice was a little too sweet but easily fixed with some extra water and ice.
As a longtime resident, I've been passing this place since it opened and I can't believe I never stopped by. I'm so happy I did because now it's officially added to my rotation of close by brunch places. I'm so tired of trekking all the way to NY or Jersey City when there's brunch gems right in my backyard! I was very pleased with my omelette. It was hearty, full of my add ins and served with a side salad AND toast. The Order knows the key to my heart. Service was great and the restaurant itself is cute. 10/10 would recommend.
What a cute cafe set in right in downtown on the main stretch. Right now in early October they still have outdoor seating, which was a bonus because it was a beautiful day. As soon as you walk inside we were greeted by a pastry/coffee area and the most delightful hostess. Since we were a larger group we chose sit inside. The decor is so fab with artwork and trending wallpaper. I had researched the menu ahead of time and was excited due to the fact that the brunch menu seemed like elevated brunch fair. Being that we have a huge Harry Potter lover in the house this was an added bonus as many dishes are named from them. Some of the items that we ordered, which were 10 out of 10 good was the Marie Salad with tandoori chicken, the Fiona on ciabatta and a wrap and the OG burger. The salad with the chicken was huge and the Fiona on both the ciabatta and the wrap were enough that we could only eat half. We also ordered a side of truffle fries and they were huge and divine. Most importantly, the staff was so friendly and attentive, which really made this a top-notch place. Can't wait to return when in the area.

Met up with my college roomie at The Order and it was lovely!! The food was AMAZING!! I ordered the Dumbledore while my roomie ordered the Harry in a pressed wrap. The food is plentiful. The server was super kind. The owner was very friendly and speaking with guests. This is such a cute little cafe with about 10 tables. They sell clothing from local vendors which was pretty cool. Theres ample parking in the area. There was no wait. The food came out in a timely manner. Food is plentiful. read more
Cute cafe in active area of South Orange. Came around lunchtime on a Thursday afternoon and was quickly acknowledged upon entry but the gentleman barista. Everything was fine but I had a weird encounter I want to share in case others have also encountered this. Upon entry, I told the lady at the receptionist desk that I was dining solo indoors. She told me they were short on staff and had to order and pay with her before seating. First time dining here and didn't know how busy it was since the dining area was on the other side of the wall. Fine... no problem. Upon sitting, I noticed there were only two other tables and most of the tables were empty. There appeared to be two male servers tending to the dining area.. Food and coffee came out in good time and the server who delivered it was friendly. After I sat and paid, I saw three other tables who came and were sat - all receiving normal table service. (I.e waiter taking orders, pay at the end.) I don't want to assume anything but would suggest the restaurant look at their practices and either exercise them across all patrons to avoid causing anyone to feel singled out... Food and coffee were good. read more

Enjoyed a lovely bowl with pork sorpotel today. What a treat it was! Loved this delicious dish from back home. One change I would make is to reduce the rice and add a little arugula salad. Great service and a welcoming ambience by the Pinto family. Kids had a burger and a sandwich. Also very tasty. Thank you!! read more
Just had brunch here in this very cute place that has been on my radar, but that always seemed crowded. Today, I was told there could be a 45 mins wait. We waited maybe 30-35 minutes. Friend had the Dumbledorf and I had the sausedo(sp?) and we both had coffee, which was good! We sampled each others dishes and everything was good, from the presentation to flavor as well as friendliness of staff. Place is very pretty as well. I plan to return. PS: food photo may not represent portions as we starting sampling the food before I remembered to take pics. Sorry about that. read more

What a gem! Food somehow gets better every time and it's already amazing. You can taste the fresh ingredients and love put into the food. Love the breakfast sandwich and chicken biscuit. You can't go wrong and the server Fernando is really such a gem. Highly recommend in anywhere nearby. Seating inside and outside offer great options. read more
Cute place. Owner is the sweetest lady. The avocado toast with an egg on top was simple but so tasty. Iced chai left much to be desired but the service was excellent. Despite them being SO busy, they prioritized great service and I love that. I will return to try more brunch items-- I'm sure everything on the menu is good. Brunch gets SUPER busy so arrive early if you're trying to check them out for brunch on the weekends. read more

My favorite brunch place in central jersey. Good vibes. Their seasonal hot drinks are fun. Love the dumbledore and omelettes. The biscuit is not too heavy, would recommend as well. No problem finding a table weekends before 10am read more

Wait time on restaurants and cafes are generally a no big deal for us as we know good ones tend to have it. The Order fits that description of "good things are worth the wait". We came in on a sunday expecting the place to be busy which was no surprise; and plus their website have mentioned that since they make everything fresh, service may take a while. When we got our orders though, we understood entirely why. All the food we had was hot and fresh delicious! We got the dirty fries which was the perfect side: crispy and had a wonderful garlic aioli. We inhaled those to oblivion. My husband had The Royal which was eggs, sausages and cheese. It was sooo flavourful and the cheese was so stretchy! For me, i had the Plain Jane since I was looking to have some rice for lunch. The sauce was perfect. Filling, flavorful and so worth it. Love the side of cucumbers for added crunch. For drinks I tried the cardamom latte which was something new for me. Its not going to be a favorite but I just love trying new flavors. Latte art was beautifully done. Minor thing but the decor, especially, the frames were a little confusing to me and i didnt find it so cohesive. Didnt affect the experience but just wanted to mention it lol overall a wonderful experience and a meal we thoroughly enjoyed! read more
I was very confused when I first heard about the order. A Harry Potter inspired brunch spot that serves... daal??? I was intrigued to say the least and boy am I glad I was able to try this spot out. Everything, and I mean everything, was delicious. My brother and I split the Royal and the Harry with a side of hedwig sauce. The Royal was absolutely packed with sausage and had so much delicious melty cheese. The Harry was great as well but the hedwig sauce really elevated the flavors. I had a Marocchino to drink and it was a perfectly pulled shot of espresso that was topped with frothed milk, cocoa powder, and cinnamon. Had the perfect little touch of sweetness. Was so good had to get a 2nd. Cannot wait to be back!!! read more

The Chicken Desi Bowl Sooo Delicious Tandoori chicken was perfectly seasoned and flavorful. The Lima crème takes this dish up a notch when you combine the vegetables. The lemonade was perfect, not too sweet, just enough balance to enjoy with your meal. No complaints about the service, staff were attentive and accommodating. Ambiance was suffice. Although you order and pay for your meal prior to receiving the food, it's very convenient to not have to wait. Definitely recommend read more

A good experience. You order and pay on your phone. The owners mother Wilma was very sweet to talk to. A perfect spot for brunch. My husband ordered their latte and he liked it. It was nice and strong. I ordered their affogato which was also good. We shared their cinnamon bun which was delicious. For our mains my hubby got their oven baked omelet which was fluffy and really tasty and I ordered their chicken tikka masala which was good except for the fact that Hing in it was a bit strong - it would taste way better without it. Their unsweetened black currant iced tea was refreshing. Customer service is great however it's slightly slow... read more
Why didn't I make the time to come here sooner?! Run, don't walk. Truly a great experience from start to finish. You order, pay, and tip all via Square, but a server comes around with water and always stops in to check with you to make sure you're doing okay and to make sure your order is correct. Tried my first ever Chagaccino -- it was DELICIOUS, and had beautiful coffee art. To eat, I got The Hagrid which is their housemade biscuit with an egg, cheese, and your choice of meat (I opted for sausage). The biscuit was flaky and everything a biscuit should be, the egg was cooked perfectly, and that Cinnamon-Bourbon Infused Organic Maple Syrup -- WOW. If they sold that in gallon jugs, I would buy one in a heartbeat. Not to be missed! Lastly, as a Harry Potter fan -- I cannot convey how much I love the ode to the story and characters in the naming of everything. read more

This is a super cute place with a fun menu. There is a little something for everyone. While I think this restaurant is family, friendly, the wait can be quite a while since they do not take reservations and have a small kitchen. If you have littles and are not hoping to wait long. This is not the place. However, if you are not in a rush, this is a lovely place to come. I enjoyed my breakfast, which was the oven baked eggs and I got spinach mushroom and goat cheese in mine. My Nana got the Dumbledore, which included a little bit of everything. Our waiter also recommended a couple of pastries for us to try before our meals came, which were lovely. The only thing that I did not enjoy was the spiced latte. Unfortunately, there was just too much going on with the latte. There is both indoors and outdoor seating, and they will see you according to first come first serve. I have also dined here for lunch and do really enjoy the atmosphere and menu. read more

This place is truly fantastic! I checked it out yesterday late morning and managed to snag a table without a wait. The menu has a wide array of options bu wast not overwhelming. I loved the dragonfruit lemonade, which was a new addition to the menu. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and wasn't tart. The Katarina was a heaping portion of ricotta pancakes, which were served with Nutella, banana, blueberry, and a really nice cinnamon-bourbon infused organic maple syrup. I also wanted to note that your order is placed via phone (order, pay, and tip all via phone). I thought it was pretty convenient. I look forward to going back again and enjoying their outdoor dining! read more
I really wish I didn't have to wait over 30 minutes for my drink. It was a Saturday early afternoon around 130 pm. I was seated at table 1 alone for a few minutes before I actually realized I had to scan the code on the table and order my food on my own that way. A waitress came over and acknowledged my order and then....... i waited, and waited , and waited for well over 30 minutes ( I looked at receipt time and time I received my drink). Then waited, waited another 20 minutes for my food, a baked omelet. I did receive an apology for the drink wait, but still..... very disappointed. The food and coffee were really good and service decent. Maybe one day I'll try again at a different time to wait less. It is a small but cozy spot. read more

I absolutely love coming here everytime I'm in jersey with my boyfriend! The food is delicious! I religiously order the Harry sandwich, a white mocha, and whatever sweet treat catches my eye. The service is wonderful you are met with the kindest people. I love that it's a family owned business, the owner greets me the warmest smile and a hug because I'm there so often! The ambiance is so cute and perfect for brunch. read more
