Overcharged for quality. Poorly made donuts and bad customer service. Seemed like they didn't make them in house.

Nothing special to write home about, get there early for the fresher donuts..but if you are not a "regular customer" don't expect any special / nice treatment. The lady behind the counter is loyal to her "regular customers"...sometimes they come first before the "you don't come in here enough for me" customers. read more

It seems more a bagel sandwich place these than a donut shop. Came here mid-morning and the donut selection was quite poor. Mostly just dry cake donuts. Also, the behind the counter area is messy and sloppily maintained. If you're looking for a variety of nice fresh donuts, look somewhere else. read more

I write a review when something is either really good or really bad. Sadly this is the latter of the two. We were camping at Seacliff when we had seen this donut shop across from Safeway. My 6 year old son and I walked nearly two miles from the beach at 9:30am to pick up donuts for breakfast. As we walked up to the door, a woman pokes her head out and says, "We've sold all of our donuts, every last one. Sorry." ARE YOU KIDDING???? After a 2 mile hike up a hill, my kid was beyond disappointed. It's only 9:30, but I'll cut her some slack since it's Friday. We ended up at the breakfast joint across the street which made up for such a bummer. I drove back the next morning at 8:30am and there were two people in the place. The same woman sitting at a corner table obviously having a social conversation about a drugged out friend. I was obviously interrupting her convo by her snotty tone when she came to help me. She only asked "Are you paying cash?" I am surprised she wasn't drumming her fingers as I picked my 12 donuts from the sparse selection. I asked how big the large coffee was and she simply pointed to the cups without saying a word. Oh biotch, please! As previous posts report, the donuts are not fresh and tasted like the desperate donut you eat in the break room the day after a potluck at the office. Not only will I never go here again, but it was bad enough that we returned from camping 30 minutes ago and I am already writing about this experience. Ferrell's Donuts is a Santa Cruz staple and have succeeded in most locations. The location offers the same Donuts as all other Ferrell's except at double the price! I rather take my money and go to Ferrell's in Live Oak than come here. The price of the Donuts at Aptos location are too damn high! read more

I have been receiving donations from the Aptos as well as the 17th store for years. I have always been treated with an impatient attitude and have observed this same attitude directed at the customers as well, Although the owner has been nice... it appears to be skin deep nice. I finally had a frazzled day myself and asked the counter woman if she could manage a tad more patience. I did not raise my voice, I did not say anything inappropriate, but consequently Lost our Homeless Community Donation. I was told the owner refused to discuss this with me. I was hung up on several times. I was threatened with arrest if I came to the store to talk with the owner. He will not accept a phone call? I have kept quiet about their extremely rude customer service for several years so that it would not be directed at me and I would be able to continue to help our Homeless Community with morning Hospitality and afternoon Lunches. I will never and would never enter the doorway of any of Mike's stores or recommend others to do so. Poor treatment of customers and people in general is unacceptable especially in a 'customer service oriented business' :-/ ...and I Love Yelp as it gives people a voice and keeps these business's a bit accountable. I was bummed when I came here because I was excited to (finally!) stop by here since it's right by our house. I was greeted by a lady with a serious frown on her face. Not until it was time to give me my change, with the thought of a tip in mind, did she smile and tell me to have a good day. Did she think at that point she could change my mind? Maybe. Love this place and the ladies that work there! They're always so sweet. While there isn't a huge selection of donuts, what they do have is usually fresh and tasty. Besides, how many variations of donuts do you really need?? Their breakfast bagel is a bit pricey for just egg and cheese ($5), but I'm also a broke college student, so lots of things seem pricey to me. Nonetheless, I am more than happy to come here for donuts and some great customer service :) read more

I put in a huge order of donuts every week for my company, and working with Ferrell's has been a delight. Not only do they provide us with a wide array of flavors, but each one tastes great. This little place is sad. Which makes me sad because it's the only donut shop nearby. As soon as we walk in one of the two ladies asks in a slight "tone" if we want to buy donuts. Umm I DID just walk into a donut shop, yes? And as I look at the selection, I decide I'm not really sure now, wait... AM I in a donut shop? Because this is the saddest selection of donuts I've seen. None of them looked appetizing! My husband says he thinks he wants a bagel, and right after that a person drives up and I guess the ladies know him since they said "oh great, another bagel guy". I almost ordered a bagel but decided to give the cinnatwist a try, and the saddest little chocolate glazed donut out of the 4 that were there. She couldn't have snagged one of the slightly more puffy ones? NOPE! The whole transaction seemed like it was a total inconvenience for these two ladies. Oh and the little "tippers go to heaven" sign? Yeeea THAT'S the reason I'm going to hell. Because I didn't tip these grumpy witches. As we were waiting, my hubs noticed their coffee station, $2 for a small coffee... Really? It's not even local coffee, it's what you would get at a gas station. Ahhhh that must be where I actually am. I'm in a gas station that doesn't sell gas. My husband seemed to like his bagel, even though it was made entirely through the microwave (I don't even think about eggs in the microwave) my cinnatwist is "eh". Was definitely not made with love. I could feel the hate sliding down my gullet as I tried a piece without milk. It definitely goes down easier with milk, but I wasn't about to buy a $5 (I actually didn't see the prices for the milk) grade school lunch sized milk from them! Oh man, this place has a special place in my heart. So I got married last summer and was like F$%^$ million-dollar wedding cake, donuts are obviously better anyway. Plus my husband is basically Homer from The Simpsons so we need donuts at our wedding. duh. Problem is we got married way up in the Santa Cruz mountains out in the boonies. How is a girl to procure donuts for such secluded nuptials? Look no further than Ferrell's! Don't be fooled by their brochure, which basically just shows sandwiches. I made a call, got in touch with the prestigious owner and he was super nice and accommodating. Can't remember his name, but great guy. We got a variety of ringed donuts for our donut wall (don't ask, it's a Pinterest thing) and our bill came to 84 dollars. FOR AN ENTIRE WEDDING DESSERT. 100ish guests btw. At that price I would eat dried cat turds. But cat turds they were not. The owner called the morning of, confirming that I still wanted said donuts and stated they were ready for pickup and congratulated me and my husband, Homer. While my friend was picking them up, I felt the werewolf bridezilla transformation beginning. I thought I was immune! But I began to panic! Donuts??? What will Grandma think? Why didn't I get fancy ass wedding cake? My donut wall looks like shit! Pinterest lied to me! But like a silver bullet, the donuts healed my werewolf self and when they arrived in their pink boxes with the heavenly scent of fried dough wafting to my nostrils. I opened the box, scrutinizing the innocent dough puffs for any imperfections (still part werewolf). There were none. They were beautiful, huge, soft and fresh. I was proud to have them as doomed guests at our wedding. They were a hit with the guests who devoured them with gusto. Our best man had three. Seriously dude? calm down. But I get it. They were that good. Anyway, dramatic stories aside, I'm sure they'd be great for just a normal sunday morning donut encounter with coffee and The New York Times (or reddit, lets be real). We love the old town appeal of this place! The donut lady has worked there for years and always has a smile for us. The donuts are brought in fresh every day from the owner's other store where they are cooked. I read the other reviews and I think those people are crabby appletons!!! You want generic? We are Visiting from out of town, and while the woman was kind, the donuts were barely eatable. The filling in the bear claw my dad and I shared was RANCID tasting. Like they had been saved from the weekend. Should step it up and make the most of being the only donuts in Aptos! read more
