Picked up a few donuts this morning as I was driving by. Great decision! Ordered 3 glazed, 2 old fashioned (maple & choc), a chocolate devil's food, and a maple/choc drizzle cake donut. I at a maple old fashioned which was delicious! I also ate a bite of the maple/choc drizzle cake donut my son ate. It was soooo good!! My wife and daughter both ate a glazed donut. We finished those 4 donuts off and kept the rest for breakfast tomorrow. They were fresh (grabbed them about 8:45a) and the glazed actually seemed warm. Staff was super easy to order from and packed them nicely in a small box (nice to see the thought out packaging instead of eating a full box on a small order). They also had coffee/drinks, inside seating, and plenty of of parking. There were a few small groups seating inside but it felt uncrowded with several open tables still available. We're long-time (30yr+) occasional patrons. Maybe every other month. Always very good donuts. Today I stopped in @9am and got 6 donuts to go. They tasted like day old donuts. The other area donut shops seem to have this issue and we no longer frequent them. The donuts here don't taste the same anymore. Just not worth spending our calories on this. So we were on our way to Santa Cruz and decided to stop here for donuts after stopping at the mosque nearby in the morning. Really great donut shop and environment and friendly staff and good coffee and they are awake early. We ordered in total 6 donuts, and 2 hot chocolates and coffee. Drinks were great. The donuts, I think the glazed and chocolate the batter was a bit sticky and not as soft to bite into. They were a bit hard, was expecting to be a bit more differ. I went in on my way to the beach for a sandwich and although a limited men (just 4 sandwiches) they were pretty good. I got the tri tip with the bbq sauce on the side and the chicken pesto. The ciabatta is the way to go. the server wrapped them up really nicely for me and i was off. Really fast service and I got an old Fashioned donut for the road which I thought was very good- they have a restroom and a self serve coffee station also. We typically go here because it's close to our house. We got a hot chocolate here for my daughter- I think the machine was set too high. My daughter has a tongue burn, and was crying. When we asked the staff they shirked it off and talked about how they are getting the machine serviced soon. I don't know if it's the language barrier but one of the women laughed and no one apologized. I don't want to go anywhere that is not understand or empathetic to kids. There are New owners as of 1/1/25. After 20 years of making the Best Sandwiches (according to many community members who wouldn't even go inside the store if they could not see her through the window from the parking lot) the girl that always made their sandwiches to order quickly and efficiently every afternoon... quit. The new owners have made it a toxic work environment. She has been trying to stay with the change for the sake of her loyal customers that she has enjoyed serving for decades. If you have been buying Fresh Sandwiches there for years, please know.: They have changed all the breads (to buy them cheaper instead of supporting local business) and they will serve it Stale. She said she wouldn't serve stale bread sandwiches to her customers. She would open a fresh loaf if it the open one was stale. Until the started Locking the Fresh Bread in the Office so she couldn't give her clients the customer service they have come to expect. She wouldn't serve bad meat or slimy vegetables either. Expect the quality of the food to drop as it is all about the money with these new owners. Unfortunately, despite her love for her regular customers, she had enough of the toxic environment and felt she had to quit. She will greatly miss all of her loyal customers. read more

I have been hearing all about the famous turkey sandwich and I finally was able to try it today! It was soooo good! The turkey was moist, the cranberry sauce was the perfect amount, the lettuce fresh and crispy and the bread was baked that day! Chefs kiss ! The woman working the front was super friendly and made the sandwich so quickly I was impressed. This is going to be a lunch break spot from now on! Bear claws are more like glazed donuts with very little filling. Big and fluffy. Not a fan of these. Apple fritters were ok. Flavorful with bits of apple but they were structurely flat and dense. Getting gas across the street I saw this donut shop. Yelp reviews were pretty good and so I stopped by. Great little shop straight outta the 50's! Prices are good & the personal touch is there. They were out of one of the donuts I wanted. When asked how soon they would be ready the young man went to the back to check with the baker. "Just one?" he asked. When I replied "yes," he brought me one "on the house." Their plain glazed donut was perfect for me - fluffy with some density, as opposed to airy KK's. I loved it - had to get another! Stopped by here about 10 am on Sat 6/14/2020. It was our first time getting donuts here. We usually go to a shop in Capitola. There was still a lot of donuts in the case. We ordered a dozen and took them home. They were TERRIBLE. They were all dry and tasted at least a day old. Very disappointed, we had to throw them all out. The older lady was absolutely horrible. She kept cursing in front of my children when we ordered Bagel sandwiches and acted like a complete jerk. She was obviously bothered that she had to WORK.. Then she left the cheese rapper on my son's sandwich and instead of responding with im sorry, she instead Cursed under her breath and made another one while very irritable. Never smiled never said thank you for coming or even apologize for leaving the cheese rapper on. NOTHING. Awful customer service. Won't ever recommend this place. I was craving a donut the other day and we walked into this place. There was a line out the door and just one person working the counter. This solo worker was making sandwiches for people to order (with eggs and sausage, etc.) so folks like myself that just wanted a quick donut to go we're not going to be happy. I waited about 5 minutes and realized what was going on so I bounced and went to the bagel place down the street who had 4 people cranking out yummies efficiently. I feel bad for the poor girl that had to do this on her own and I feel bad for the business not realizing that they were severely understaffed. I think one person could easily handle donuts and coffee or a cup of milk but the custom sandwich aspect deserves attention from a second employee. I didn't feel to bad for my tummy as the place down the street get's it and so did I. Ferrell's is our go-to donut shop - the 17th shop being the closest to our house. The owner is always there working and he's super friendly. It's pretty basic - nothing over the top and we purchased 2 dozen for my daughters birthday to bring to her practice. The kids loved them - we did glazed, chocolate glazed, sprinkled and old fashioned. The kids (and I) love that melt in your mouth glazed the best! On other special days my kids will ask them to get a chocolate bar and fill it with cream or whipped cream - insane goodness!! read more

Been here twice with similar experiences. Doughnuts are dry and soft. Glazed Buttermilk looks great but icing is very mushy and dough has the consistency of a stale doughnut. Not good at all. Apple fritter is soft with very little apple flavor and too much cinnamon. Although the Fritter does not have the stale consistency of the Buttermilk, it lacks the traditional crunchiness around the edges -- it is very soft. Imagine old doughnuts bought in a box at the grocery store -- not good. I really like the interior, with plenty of counter space and the ability to get a cup of coffee in a real cup, served from behind the counter. However, a doughnut shop has to be about the doughnuts and I will not be back. read more
