Three strikes you're out!! In 2021 I took my precious Maltese to get groomed and I was so disappointed but didn't complain much because my precious boy was on his last months of life. After he passed I got a new little pooch and decided to take her in at a couple of months of life. She must have been 3 lbs or so. The cutest pooch ever. They failed again. They chopped her up terribly. I was , again, disappointed. That was over a year ago. I recently moved about a mile away and thought I'd give them one more chance. Apparently, they don't follow instructions well. My little 8lb Maltese/ Bischon Frise's hair was about 4" long and I strictly asked for it to stay long. I wanted a groom not a shave. If they couldn't keep it long they should have called me. I told them this would be the last time I'd give them a chance. They failed miserably. They made her look like a poodle. 1/2 inch long, no hair on the face at all, her long ears were basically cut off and they gave her poodle paws. WTH!?! Not only that, they charged me $70 to basically shave her. They didn't GROOM her. They SHAVED her. I'll be contacting the manager tomorrow and ask for a refund. I've stopped in this store on a few different occasions. Upon arrival get ready to have the staff either 1) give you a stinkface or eye daggers 2) totally ignore you 3) act like a breeze must have opened the door, because there is no way the staff is going to engage you in conversation 4) continue to stand at the counter and stare into space. I think the staff here subscribes to the Jurassic Park way of thinking - "if I keep still enough they cant see me and the customers will just leave". The shop itself has run of the mill dogwares for sale. Nothing amazing or exceptional, but all over priced. They also have a self service dog wash for 20 dollars for large dogs and 15 for small dogs. The first rule or a new business is to be as friendly as possible so people want to come into your place and spend money. Also (hopefully) those same people will tell their friends and then your business will grow. I believe this business will join the long list of failed businesses in downtown Libertyville if they don't change their attitude. read more

When I found out Libertyville was opening a dog café, I thought "I must go check this out" because of my acute fondness for dogs. I went into K-9 Bakery and Cafe twice the weekend of Libertyville Dog Days. Upon walking in, the first thing we noticed was the odd layout. The front of the store has dog toys and assorted goodies for sale. The register is in the middle of the store along with a few tables that I presume is the "café" part. The actual bakery is in the back. I didn't know who the owner (at least I thought she was the owner) was until I was tugging on a toy with the German Sheppard in the store and she came up to me and said 'don't do that', then proceeded to walk away. No explanation, no hello...just "don't do that". I found her response to be a bit gruff. Nobody else greeted us or said a word besides 'don't do that'. Very pleasant experience...NOT. The next day I went in again with my husband and sister (who is a dog groomer) and her 2 dogs (a golden retriever and saluki). Once again, no "welcome to our shop" greeting. This time, my sister asked the owner if she had any made in the USA rawhide bones. The owner very snippily stated "we only sell bones that are good for dogs here", then proceeded to walk away. No offense lady, however my sister is a dog groomer so I am sure she knows what bones are good for her dogs. My sister did end up purchasing a couple of doggie ice cream cups, which were overpriced in our opinion. The only "good" thing I can say about this shop is that possibly the owner's mother said hello to us during our second visit. Needless to say, we will not be visiting this establishment again. We will also not be referring it to any of the countless dog owners we know. Customer service is key to owning a business. Please keep that in mind if you expect to have any future clients whatsoever. read more

The first thing I noticed when I walked into the store was that they sell puppies! There are so many dogs (and puppies) needing to be adopted how can this store support breeders who create more dogs that some of whom are bound to become homeless and be put down in a shelter. There are so many dogs killed in this country but yet we fuel the problem by continuing to breed more dogs, sell them and buy them! Dont be part of the problem. Dont buy here - ADOPT! read more

The customer service is awful. I purchased some baked goodies for my dog. The lady who rung me up just assumed I was finished shopping. She never said hello, or would you like anything else. I had to ask her how much was due before handing over my money. I won't be coming here again. read more

I went to the store when they were located in Libertyville and the older lady (I assume owner) was nice. I bought some over-priced treats, but expected that from any store that is considered a "boutique". A couple weeks later, I went to the store to order a doggie cake. It was normal business hours and they were closed. There was no sign on the front to explain why they were closed or when they would be back open. I called and left a message on their answering machine, only to get a call back 3 days later. I just tried the new location in Vernon Hills. They were supposed to be open until 7pm on the day I arrived, and I was there at 6:38pm. The neon sign in the front was lit up and said open. But the doors were locked and nobody was inside. Again, there was no sign explaining why they would be closed during normal business hours. I'm done going out of my way to try and give business to such a crappy small business. Save your time and your money. Go ANYWHERE ELSE. This place is probably on it's way down the drain with such poor service. read more

Stopped by K-9 Cafe - first time in, and found everyone extremely friendly - not sure what happened to the other people who reviewed K-9 - but my experience was extremely positive. Bought the bacon treats for my two goldens - and they LOVED them....will ordered more. Will use again!! read more

Not sure where my previous 1 start review went, but the owner of this shop needs some help with her people skills. She is very rude and disrespectful to customers. I hardly made it in the door before I was greeted with a snotty remark from her, and then another one followed. We left immediately after that. DOESN'T DESERVE ANY STARS BUT ONE IS THE MINIMUM - I visited K9 Cafe last week with my maltipoo Sara and I have to agree that the items are all overpriced. I bought some cookies and my poor Sarah had diarrhea for two days. The owner acted as if she wished I didn't come in the store. What a "piece of work". You need personality in retail and the owner has NONE. My opinion is that this store will be another vacant place of business soon. What a waste of money and bad idea. read more

I have never witnessed such an unfriendly store owner. Usually even if someone isn't a "people person", they open up when you engage with them over their animals. This woman seems to be neither a people person nor an animal person. I wonder what business will take over this store when it fails in a few weeks. read more

Bought some homemade treats for my dog last week. Given the owner's attitude at the time I should have just left, but I didn't and dropped $15 in treats. After giving my dog a few he began throwing up a few hours later. Took him to the vet and was told it was some change in his diet. All I gave him new were the treats. Called the store to find out the ingredients and let the owner know what happened and I was rudely laughed at, humiliated and hung up on. I agree with the other reviewers - save your money and time. This place needs to be reported to the board of health. Rude behavior/attitude will get you nowhere, especially in this town! read more

BEWARE!! STAY AWAY!! - When I walked into this place I thought what I good idea, but after about 2 minutes I knew I would never be back. The place had a terrible odor of dog feces and the customer service was awful. The owner Robin was completely rude to me and about 2 other customers. She acted like she was doing me a favor by allowing me to come into her store. When I was looking to buy a couple doggie treats I had to ask multiple times for assistance. I quickly bought them and as I was leaving my dog was barking at another dog and the owner yelled, "Shut that dog up or I will!' I couldn't believe it! After my dog ate their baked doggie treats, he had diarrhea and was puking all day. They must bake their treats with the same care they have for their customer! Don't waste your time, unless you want terrible service and to make you dog sick! I would've given them zero stars if it was an option. read more
