I went looking for a mattress and instead felt so uncomfortable we tried to look around and ended up just leaving. I didn't understand why Google said this location had 5 stars on yelp, but now I see it's because the reviews are 2+ years old. So I thought I'd leave an updated one. The second we walked in, the lady at the desk greeted us and seemed sweet. She asked us if we needed anything, so I proceeded to tell her that I wasn't sure because my husband and I had never been mattress shopping before. She just said "okay". After asking if we could lay on the mattresses and she handed us some bags with a sheet in them and explained what to do, then she just went back to her desk. There was a man who must have been the manager who was in the back or something came out because they had customers. I was expecting him to say something, or ask us what we were looking for, or even offer up knowledge about the mattresses to help us find something that fit our needs......... instead he just stood in the lobby the entire time without saying a word and just watched us walk around. We're pushing on mattresses, trying to read the grading tag, trying to understand on our own what the gradings meant, did a few passes per mattress...... The man never even said hi. He didn't even move at all. He just stood in one spot and stared at us awkwardly the entire time we were in there. The girl at the desk never said anything to us after her initial reaction either. When did buying a bed start feeling like you are buying a new car? I've purchased a total of two beds from the Original Mattress Factory and really have no complaints at all. Their beds are sound quality and you don't get harassed by sales people. I like they keep their quality control standard very high... especially to the point where it had been six years since I purchased my mattress with them but I had totally forgotten the model that I did buy... I went into this store and started laying down on their bed models and found one that felt exactly similar. After digging through some receipts... sure enough that was my model bed. I ended up getting the same bed (just in a double) for my guest room. This showroom used to be located up on Independence (closer to uptown), but with all the Independence bus lane construction, they've since moved to Matthews (even better for me!). They do have their regular mattresses, but something new is that they now offer some more competitive mattresses (for a guest room - not as frequently used bed) to keep them in the market compared to the other places. I just love their "original" mattresses that I could not really bring myself to get a "lighter" version of a good product for my guest bedroom. Now - word of warning, the Original Mattress Factory mattresses require flipping the mattress every 3 months... but it makes for a longer lasting mattress and not just everything (padding, springs, etc) on one side that causes a lot of sagging/lumps over time. read more

I purchased my mattress from the Matthews store. Reggie Polite was knowledgeable and not at all pushy. I had done my homework ahead of time via Consumer Reports, neighbors/friends experiences and the internet. Reggie told me to take my time, try every mattress in the store and then make a decision. He filled me in on what materials are used in the mattresses, the process they go through in production and answered all my questions. Delivery was fast and the men setting up the bed, cleaned up the debris from packaging and made sure I was totally satisfied before they left. Do not buy a mattress from this store!! I bought a mattress from Kelsey in Matthews, and she completely lied to me and did the typical sales pitch to bamboozle you in to buying the mattress and lied about the warranty. I told her I was hesitant about buying a mattress here because of their warranty and she's like, you don't have to worry. You have 30 days to make up your mind and if you don't like it, you can donate it to a local charity and get a full refund. If you keep it past 30 days, you will have to pay a 25 % fee to change your mattress. She did tell me about how they do not accept returns or exchanges on mattresses but if you donate it in 30 days, you'll get a full refund. So she went over the policy twice, and I was asking questions about it and she was telling me that I will receive a full refund. So I wrote a review on their page and I get an email to send information. So I did and got an immediate call from Robert and he said to call him or Kelsey. So I did. I called Kelsey up. She then told me that it sounds like I need to upgrade my bed to a harder mattress but I would need to pay 25% fee to change the mattress. I was like, hold on, you told me I have 30 days to donate it and bring back the receipt for a full refund. And she was like, can you up Robert, so he can help you out and completely avoided the 30 day policy she told me about. So I did. I called Robert back. And Robert said the same thing that Kelsey said. That I would need to pay 25% fee to change mattress and bring mattress to the store and they would burn it because they can't resale it. I said, I'm not paying anything extra, because what I was told from Kelsey was that I get a complete refund for my mattress if I donate it and bring back the receipt in 30 days. He would not accept this. But then he said he would talk to Kelsey again and ask the question that I had which was; 1) why did you keep going over the 30 day policy with me and telling me that I would get a refund if the 30 day policy didn't apply to me at all because the only thing I bought was a mattress and not head boards or accessories. It's a moot point to bring it up if their policy was not to refund for mattresses but she told me they did. So Robert called back and asked her why she kept bringing up 30 day full refund if it was just a mattress. She then said she did say that about the 30 day full refund but it was a pillow I was asking about. A PILLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWW! I never bought a pillow! I never asked about a pillow! I never said anything about a Pillow. This was a complete lie. Even if I did ask about a pillow. Why would you got over a 30 day full refund with me if the only thing I bought was a mattress. I have my picture on yelp to show that I only purchased a mattress. I also have the voicemail of Robert confirming that Kelsey said he talked to her and said that she went over the 30 day policy with me but it was about a pillow and not about the mattress. It was two separate conversations. I've never heard an answer like this. Absolute ludicrous. He then backed her up and basically called me a liar and said he wasn't going to refund me anything and agreed with Kelsey that I was lying. First off, don't call me a liar. Second, don't scam me. And third don't lie to me. This place is a complete joke. They must be really hurting for business because both times I went in, there was nobody in there. Completely empty. So I get why someone who is basically on commission would lie me to me. But when you get caught in your lie, just own up to it. I want an apology and a full refund. read more

Ordered mattress on Monday delivered on wednesday, all went well, good delivery guys. Mattress very comfortable. I did have a small problem when I ordered the wrong box spring, However that problem was handled very professionly by Rob one of the owners. Husband & I purchased a mattress from Matthews location last weekend. The shopping experience was very low key; salesperson did not bother us after intro until we were ready. Then she was informative but not pushy, not hovering, answered questions & explained the purchase & delivery & construction process very clearly. We opted for an extra service so our mattress took 3 days to build & we chose our delivery option for a few days after. As requested, the driver called the day before to notify us of delivery timeframe (within 3 hr window). They called again on delivery day when they were 8 miles out. They arrived as scheduled & within 15 min had bagged old mattress & put down new one & was out the door. Very professional, good personalities. The buying experience was great. So far the mattress itself is great! I'll update in few months after it's broken in. read more

Great place to buy a really good mattress. Purchased from the Matthews store. Had really good info on each of the mattresses from the manager Reggie Polite. Left the store and cross checked what we were told in such places as Consumer Reports, etc. Returned the following week and made our purchase. Left the store with our written warranty and other paperwork. The mattress arrived 2 days later and the two man delivery crew was great. The mattress was exactly what we were expecting and we have absolutely no complaints. If you are considering a mattress from another store I suggest you get a copy of the warranty and compare with The Original Mattress Factory warranty. The shopping experience was good in the Matthews location and staff was nice, but because they lied to me about the policy of loading and strapping down the mattress I am rating this business 1 Star. I purchased at the Matthews location and drive to the warehouse/store location on S. Blvd with my receipt that specifically stated tie down mattress, customer will be driving on the highway. As soon as I got to the S. Blvd store I was met by an older, short, round man with dark hair who identified himself as the owner and was so rude and abrasive that I stated I wanted a refund in the first three minutes of interaction. The man at the S. Blvd store told me that they don't load or tie down mattresses and he was contacting the Matthews store to get on them for telling me they could. I eventually was put on the store phone with staff from Matthews and the man from S. Blvd yelled and talked over me the entire time and even threatened to hang up the call. I left the S. Blvd store and was given a refund over the phone by Matthews staff and said I'd never step foot in another Original Mattress due to this horrible situation. I've never been contacted or apologized to for this horrible experience and was shocked when I received an email asking for a review over two months after the fact. Basically, I will never purchase or recommend this business because of the non existent customer care or concern and flat out horrible treatment that I was subjected to while in their store. read more
