Memorable Birthday Dinner at The Original Mel's! We went to The Original Mel's to celebrate my birthday, and it turned out to be such a lovely experience! The classic retro diner vibe really set the tone for a fun evening. I had the steak and shrimp combo with mashed potatoes and gravy--the steak was juicy, the shrimp were perfectly crispy, and the mashed potatoes with gravy were super comforting. My kid enjoyed a cheeseburger and fries served in an adorable car-shaped box, which made the meal even more fun for them. My friend ordered the chicken tenders, and I have to say--they were surprisingly good! Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of flavor. To top it all off, the staff surprised me with a birthday ice cream and even sang "Happy Birthday"! It was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture that made the dinner feel extra special. Great food, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere--I'd definitely come back

Hubby and I met up here with our daughter and grand baby. It was a very hot day so the intense air conditioning was very much appreciated! As soon as we walked in, our grand baby greeted us from the table they got for us. Our waitress was there ready to take our drink orders. Hubby and I shared the French dip with sweet potato fries. Our daughter got the French dip with tater tots. The food came quickly and our waitress frequently checked in on us and refilled our drinks. It did get cold for hubby and I but thankfully we were able to pay and hang out front on the bench for a few before we all headed our separate ways. This is a good location close the mall and it has a lot of seating too. The bathroom was clean and well lit too.

Enjoyed my burger and fries. The patty had a nice flavor, the fries were seasoned and crispy. It gave me exactly what I wanted. Our server was great, too, very friendly.

I like that this place has a variety of different dishes you can have. Whatever you're in the mood for, they most likely have to serve. Inside the restaurant is like a rewind to 80's with a groovy vibe. Service is pretty great and their food and milkshakes are delicious! I recently tried their club sandwich and it was super tasty! I ordered it for take out, but I want to come back to dine in soon.

Well they aren't open at 0700. It's 7:05 and still no one comes to open the door. Lights and tv's are on but not a person in sight.

Doesn't open at 0700 even though it's posted on the door and awning. All the tv's and light are on but not a person in sight. It's now 0706. Off to give my $$ to another business.

I very much loved this restaurant. I enjoy visiting diners for the atmosphere and nostalgia everywhere. Each table has its own juke box which I was bummed that I didn't have quarters or I would have played some tunes. I would have liked more access to it also. All the condiments covered the front of the machine. My spaghetti was so good and filling, in fact I had to take some home. The salads were large for just being a side item. My son only likes Kraft Mac and Cheese and most places don't serve it so this was a pleasant surprise and he just devoured it. In fact he asked for chicken tenders for his second meal after he finished the Mac. Our waitress Olivia was so super friendly and made sure we enjoyed our time. In fact, all the staff were so nice. I can't wait to try more items on the menu. I don't expect any less than we had this evening.

Our family loves Mel's in Fairfield because we always have a great experience. Olivia has been our waitress several times and she is amazing!! My dad loves the grilled tuna and I usually get the French dip & both are scrumptious. My husband enjoys the extra large breakfast portions. My mom always gets a fun sundae while playing Elvis songs on the jukebox.

Second, the food was insane. Given the reasonable prices we expected the dishes to be small, but they were substantial. I got the Warao pizza (added balsamic) with a kinder milkshake, my husband got the pastrami sandwich with a vanilla milkshake, our daughter got a cheese pizza and strawberry milkshake, and we got a pastellito to try. My husband had to help me with my pizza and we couldn't even try the pastellito because we were stuffed (having it for my snack tonight). And everything tasted amazing - I loved the combination of the Warao, and kinder milkshake with Nutella and kinder pieces, need I say more? And husband eats a looot of pastrami sandwiches and he was impressed with theirs. Third, we loved the vibe. It was a casual place with a modern aesthetic. 10/10 would come back again.

After that, the service was friendly and quick. The restaurant wasn't as clean as I would like it. The case where the baked items are kept in the front appears to be sticky and dirty. The communal condiment containers definitely needed to be wiped down. The tables needed to be wiped down as well. There were dirty dishes near the sugar area. Everything need a light cleaning. My Hubsand ordered the 1/2 Warao salad, which was a very small portion. The salad presentation was pretty with light dressing. I ordered the arepa reina pepada, which was not good. The corn cake was just hard on the outside. It tasted like it was stale as if it had been warmed up in the microwave. The filling was overly salty.

In my opinion, the restaurant could use some remodeling and general updates. The structure feels a little dated, and there are small details that stand out if you're paying attention. The mimosa flights are what seem to draw a big crowd. They're cute and very aesthetic, which I think is part of the appeal. Some of them can be on the sweeter side, so if you enjoy fruity, sweet drinks, you'll probably love them. As for the food, it just hasn't been my favorite. I've tried several items over multiple visits because friends enjoy going there. The chicken and waffles were okay, nothing special. The omelet was decent but not memorable. I tried the chilaquiles once and wouldn't order them again. They were very heavy on the sauce for my taste. I also found some items like the hash browns a bit too greasy, the fries are three large wedges, not my favorite. On the positive side, most of the servers I've had have been friendly and attentive, and the bathrooms have always been clean, which I appreciate. Overall, Maple Bar Cafe may be a great fit if you love sweet brunch options and fun mimosa flights. It just isn't my personal go-to spot, but I can see why others enjoy it.

Seeing that it was raining and I didn't want to order for my usual spots I decided to give this place a try. I got the Mushroom, Bacon and Brie omelet which sounded stellar! I did not seat inside but it was door dashed to me. The way they packed it was very nice and it came in nice containers, it also looked great. I also like that it gave me an option to have it with either toast or muffin which I found unique. Unfortunately, though the presentation was nice, the omelet was extremely bland. The egg was also overcooked and rubbery, the potatoes were also tasteless. The muffin however was very good, carrot and raisin, delicious. My boyfriend got the chipotle breakfast burrito (which I forgot to take a picture of), he said it was okay, I tasted it and also thought it was fine. Overall, not my cup of tea, but I do see some potential here. I think with minor tweaks this could be a great spot but I may give it awhile before returning (hopefully not another 10 years).

There's a counter area where you can order coffee, pastries, breakfast items, or food to-go, while the left side has a hostess stand if you'd prefer full table service inside or on the patio. The brunch menu was a bit limited, and I ended up ordering the croissant sandwich. The croissant itself was soft and fresh, but overall the sandwich left me wanting a little more flavor. It was on the smaller side, didn't have much bacon, and even with the preserved tomato aioli it felt a bit underwhelming. The breakfast potatoes also weren't really my favorite. They were small whole potatoes with the skins on and heavily seasoned with cayenne pepper. Personally, I would've liked another side option such as fresh fruit. That said, the staff was very friendly and welcoming throughout the visit. For two croissant sandwiches, two iced teas, and a side of fries, the total came to around $70 with tip, which felt a little pricey for the overall experience. The property itself is beautiful. It looks like they host live music and events in the outdoor quad area, and I noticed they also offer wood-fired pizza after 11 AM, which honestly sounds worth coming back to try. Overall, I have mixed feelings as the atmosphere and service were great, but the food didn't quite live up to expectations for me personally.
